Beauty and the Beast

With each passing day, Xiao can feel himself transforming more into a monster

The weight of his sins grew heavier and heavier, covering him with ashes and feathers

Soon, there were rumours of a half bird beast flying over the village at night, searching for its next meal

You, an orphan that had been treated as an outcast since birth, was chosen by the villagers to be the sacrifice to quell the beast’s anger and hunger

But after being brought to his decaying castle, Xiao makes it clear he has no interest in eating you

In fact, he gives you free reign in his home, allowing you to go wherever you pleased

At first, he tries to scare you, tries to get you to stay away from him

But when you see him feeding the chipmunks outside, and the songbirds feel safe enough around him to perch on his shoulders, you no longer feel afraid

The two of you slowly warm up to each other. Xiao’s favourite thing to do is listen to you read

When he can’t fall asleep at night from the pain, he asks you to read him stories so he can fall asleep to the sound of your soft voice

You come to realize he’s not a monster but a hurt, scared boy who only wants to wake up from this nightmare he’s been trapped in

The two of you enjoyed your peaceful life together, until one day a hero from your village stormed Xiao’s castle, determined to either save or take vengeance for you

Xiao, who flew over the village every night to make sure no danger came to the villagers, could not bring himself to defend himself from this naive boy

As you hold his still body, you kiss him goodbye

To both you and the hero’s shock, the feathers stabbed into Xiao’s body dispersed, swirling into the sky

The feathers kept flying away until the beast you were holding in your arms became human again

“You’ve awoken me from a terrifying dream. Thank you.”

my heart goes out to episode 3 secret life grian because I'm kind of living it right now (watch out peeps, low-key a vent incoming!)

in a stream after the big win scar says he's not sure if he could do it again, the whole being alone and having no friends thing and i kind of know what he means. as a real person its hard not having friends because you have no emotional support or people to connect with etc etc etc. in game it was hard not having friends cause he couldn't lean on anyone for resources and always had to leave home and manufacture interactions for content rather than being able to multitask and go caving with a friend (like the "i left my diamonds right here!" bit in last life with grian and mumbo. its just a mundane task but the interaction has become iconic)

but we're talking about grian now. just- the state of this man. i related a little bit too much to him in this episode. he made the diagonal staircase creature the episode before and said it looked like his brain; mush. but then in episode 3 ended up getting the task to follow his old buddy from the previous season around and just having joel go "ok lol lame. this is awkward. we're not really best friends, he's just following me around" (disclaimer: i know its just for the bit and they're good friends irl) and then to have joels new best bud (aka lizzie his irl wife-) go "HAH! you got no fri-endsss~!" (this lives rent free in my head lol) and tease him the following is a compilation of moments i related to having recently drifted from a close friend of several years :) - watching joel bond with the mounders from afar and having him just go "one second grian, we're bonding" when just one season ago they would bond and say who was boogeyman or not at the beginning of episodes - finally thinking he's got a friend because of his task, joel saying he'll "let [him] know" when he takes damage and how much and "oh, you don't want me to hang out with you?" "no but you can go hang out at the top of the helter skelter alone if you want". thinking he had a friend to turn out he didn't. (its then still socially okay and funny that he refused to leave joel alone because its all a bit for the episode) - "he's my pet" "i think we're friends. i think we're best friends" the thinking we're best friends not being mutual - "one moment, grian" as grian's trying to talk to him and joels just doing his task. its the being put off as a second priority over other friends (made me weirdly frustrated despite knowing its all made up silly improv-d conflict between grown adults who are actually friends) - "heard something about a group of friends, maybe I'm now a part of it?" its socially kind of weird to do this irl but the. knowing a bunch of people you know are a like Friend Group and wondering why you're not included - "not even this enderman wants to be my friend! im gonna cry" not that relevant just felt silly and relatable - "am i just here to clarify rules; you guys don't want to be friends?" serving a functional purpose to a group, no ones actually finding you just for you and to chat and be friends (I've gotten messages from friends just needing me to settle arguments between other friends) - (after chanting fail at mumbo) "its just me, this is why i don't have friends" the finding yourself cringe at every turn and thinking wow this is why no one likes me. yknow as im typing this im thinking "wow this is why i have no friends, isn't it? im on tumblr using it as a diary rather than making friends and speaking to them about my issues or finding a therapist to work through my insecurities." - throughout the episode just hating everything he created and wanting to destroy it - the stairs and even later the egg (not relevant to having friends. well kind of but not really. but loneliness can make you act crazy its just the art block and frustration and disappointment in yourself and your failure to have a vision and properly bring it into fruition) - "i definitely won't back down on this, I'm committing fully to the egg" i have a bad habit of running away from friendships when i get scared of any slew of things or just don't like them anymore, hence why i no longer have friends :) - the fact each time he finds something, anything, to pull him away from his whole being alone thing and distract him for any amount of time he goes and dives full in but the conversation always comes back to how he has no friends. - feeling like you'll never be capable of creating and committing to long lasting healthy relationships like everyone else seems to be, settling for short term slightly toxic (joel literally didn't want to be his friend) ones just to have someone to be around. smth smth, "we accept the love we think we deserve."

i'd originally rewatched scar's secret life and thought it would make me sad cause he spent the whole time being alone but scar never made much of a big deal of being lonely and just made comments like "that's not right. how did the guy with no friends win?" feeling like he didn't deserve the win which echoes pearl in double life saying "this wasn't supposed to happen. i wasn't supposed to have friends" like she was scared of making bonds after being rejected by both martyn and scott at the beginning and like she was actually crazy and surely deserved them both leaving and didn't deserve friends but that pattern is an entirely other thing to dig into

when i first watched secret life as it was coming out (October to December 2023) i thought i was on good terms with this friend or was at least deluded and distracted enough to think that. i haven't rewatched grian's perspective since realizing our friendship was all falling apart at the beginning of this year (mostly in march) and then running away from some other friends and becoming a weird little egg on my own. its funny how grians made up improv'd loneliness can echo real loneliness, isn't it?

Chung Myung's breath came in short gasp as he couldn't take his eyes away from his dying friend, despite the countless dead bodies scattered everywhere in the battlefield.

  'Is this how it ends?' Tang Bo questioned.

But no one answered. Nobody could answer.

Only the frantic sound of Chung Myung's breathing filled the air.

   'Hyung-nim....'

With no thoughts, Tang Bo slowly gaze his eyes on Chung Myung who was trembling uncontrollably while gripping his hand. Desperately infusing his inner energy onto Tang Bo's body, but no matter how hard he tried, the blood flowed with no end.

Although Tang Bo was barely conscious, he muttered his words.

"Chung Myung..." 

Hearing Tang Bo's weak voice, Chung Myung quickly looked into his eyes with distraught.

And.. he sees Tang Bo.. Smiling...?

Is this really the time to smile, you bastard? 

Tang Bo let out a faint chuckled at Chung Myung's glare.

Day 1 - what tdp means to me

A safe haven. A home far from home. The soundtrack of my life.

A story worth revisiting and loving however many times you can. Deep sorrow and loss you feel great empathy for. Emotions and feelings and thoughts and actions which seem so authentic.

I've already said it but The Dragon Prince has become more than just a fantasy series I watch for the sake of learning a language for me. It has become a part of me. And I'm not even joking. Sometimes I think- this is not healthy, how can I live for 6 freaking years thinking non-stop about this story, its world, the possible scenarios of its future- drawing Rayla in my notebooks all the time- coming up with AUs as I fall asleep and imagine them unfold like a movie- I can't help it.

I really hope I'll be able to move on if- if season 7 turns out to be the last season. Y'know, for these 6 years with tdp, I have finished school, moved to the capital city, went to a university, graduated, got a job and now I'm on my first year of getting a magister degree. I'm 22. Almost a quarter of my life I've lived knowing tdp, waiting for new seasons, for littlest bits of content in between of them, for any new theories and discussions. For fan works. Gosh. I really feel like crying. I've written a whole freaking fic on how Aaravos couldn't let go- Look who's speaking. As if I myself can. I can't. I don't know. It might be painful- or I might just forget about it after half a year. I don't know.

Y'know, it's so strange- when you meet people for the first time and you talk about personal things and ask each other things like 'What's your favourite show/book/title?'. I've never ever met a single person who would have at least heard of The Dragon Prince. The only person I can talk to about it is my friend who's lost the major part of her interest and love for the show and I guess she only keeps talking about it with me out of politeness and because she's a wonderful person. This show, it's so little, so little-known and so precious.

No, I will never forget it. It stole such a big chunk of my heart. Nahh, not happening! Хрена с два.

I guess since this is the end anyway and it's not that much important anyway- For these months between s6 and s7 I tried writing fanfiction, for the first time. Because I couldn't hold it in myself anymore. I don't know how good my works are, but- it was a greatest pleasure to write them, even if in a language that's not my native. It was- wonderful, truly. Every little and big comment- they warmed my heart like small suns. And being able to talk to another equally crazy Aaravos & Callum fan- it was invaluable. Yeah, Damascus, I'm talking to you, I know you have an account on Tumblr though you don't come here often and it's very unlikely you ever see this. Anyway, I've enjoyed every moment of knowing you. It was almost like- amid all loneliness- I've got a new friend. I'm Asentse, yeah, though that's one fuck of a great reveal. It only mattered to me and not much anyway because tumblr still allows for anonymity. Thank you and thank everyone in this fandom. I've only known you guys online and since season 4 but- you're all incredible! I hope we will meet again in other fandoms-

a/n: after kaeya popped up briefly in the newest archon quest, it got me thinking about the persona he puts on and his loneliness and it somehow got me thinking about peacock calatheas and thus this fic was born. my fellow plant people know how much work and love it takes to maintain a calathea and it kinda just fit kaeya in my mind. this is lowkey highkey very self indulgent + part of my yay me celebration thing

“Kaeya, can you settle down? You’re driving me crazy,” when your boyfriend ignored your annoyed hiss in favor of accompanying you in your shared home, you sighed in defeat. “Can’t you go and bother Lulu for an hour? I don’t need you to babysit me.”

“Lulu?” Kaeya chuckled, amusement dancing in his eye. Of course that’s what gets him to grace you with a response. “That’s not something I hear every day.”

“I know a grumpy bartender who’d love to be in your place,” you can’t hold back a snicker of your own. 

Diluc hated the nickname you continuously referred to him as since you were 3. He didn’t mind it at first. That went out the window when the old nickname slipped when the both of you were on duty with a handful of new knights present though. Even now that he was gone from the Knights of Favonius’ ranks, Diluc would shoot you dirty looks when ‘Lulu’ fell from your lips.

“Now get off your leg,” Kaeya motioned his hands for you to back away. “You shouldn’t be on it for too long, remember? I can take care of the rest.”

He’s more like a mother hen than a peacock. Your lips can’t help curling into a smile despite the roll of your eyes.

“Barbara said a little light movement would be good for me,” you protest, shooing the blue-haired man away from you once more. “Walking around our house to take care of my plants isn’t going to land me back in Barbara’s healing arms.” The young deaconess healed what she could. Now the rest was up to your body’s own natural healing. "With how restless you’re acting, you’d think you’re the one Barbara put on lockdown.”

“Me? Restless?” Kaeya’s looked at you with an eyebrow raised in mock surprise. “Perish the thought.”

“Little Kaeya is the last plant I have to tend to and I promise I’ll rest on the couch and let you serve me to your heart’s content, alright?” Exasperating as his behavior was, however, you appreciated the amount of attention and care Kaeya displayed since you were injured. He even asked Jean to move his schedule around to allow him to be home in order to help you.

“Just don’t overwork yourself,” you warned him when he announced he’d be working odd hours until your recovery.

“Do what you love and you never work a day in your life, they say,” was all Kaeya replied with a teasing smile. “Taking care of you is something that I love. So I can’t overwork myself in the slightest.”

He’s lucky I love him so much, you huff silently but your chest is warm. You move to wipe your damp cloth against the leaves of Little Kaeya, your peacock calathea, when the next words come from Kaeya’s mouth: “Has Barbara told you when you’ll be able to return to duty?”

You took your time responding to his question, wiping the next leaf of your plant tenderly. “Maybe this suits me better,” there’s no surprised look or sound that escapes from the man and you know he’s suspected your thoughts for a while. You’d been worrying how to bring it up and you find yourself thankful he allowed an opening. “I’ve never been the best Knight of Favonius. I only joined because I was chasing after you and Lulu.” It was a miracle you passed the selection test in the first place. But with no real idea in mind of what you wanted for yourself and the fear of being left behind by your friends, you decided to become a knight.

Then Diluc left your ranks, never looking back, and only yourself and Kaeya remained. Crepus’ death had shaken all three of you. The days playing among the vineyards of Dawn Winery were a far off memory, lost in grief-tinted nostalgia.

"I think you were quite the fine knight,” Kaeya replied so smoothly you almost believed him. 

"At least if I got in, Noelle should know she’ll make it at some point too.” With a final few wipes, Little Kaeya was pristine and as vibrant as ever. “Looking handsome as always, Little Kaeya,” you beamed with pride.

Kaeya held his chest as if he were in pain, “I’m hurt, I thought I was the only Kaeya in your life.”

“Well he is a peacock,” you pointed at Little Kaeya’s leaves, exact replicas of a male peacock’s feathers. Calling it ‘Kaeya’, the icy peacock of Mondstadt himself, seemed very fitting to you at the time. “And I have enough room in my heart for the both of you. Maybe I’ll work at Flora’s, she and Donna mentioned needing a new helper.” You nod at your Dendro Vision, resting on the bookshelf nearby. “They want me to help keep the flowers preserved longer since I have the capability to do so. And it helps I can speed up the growth process of any blooms they want to start growing themselves.”

He’s smiling but you could tell it was bittersweet. “Flora and Donna, huh?” Kaeya sighed audibly. “That’s who’ll be taking my [First] away from me?”

"Don’t be a big baby, you’re in your 20s now,” you poke Kaeya’s cheek softly.

A gloved hand held your own before kissing it tenderly. “Sorry, sorry. I’ll just miss my favorite partner.”

It occurred to you, not for the first time, there were more similarities to the Kaeyas that stood before you than he’d ever care to admit.

Calatheas are beautiful, that was attracted you to them in the first place. The patterned foliage pulled you in the first moment you saw them. Beautiful as they were, however, calatheas were one of the divas of the plant world.

The water needed to be just so. 

The humidity in your home needed to be just so. 

The sunlight filtering through your windows needed to be just so.

Anything that upset that balance even a little and the plant would react with a fragility that surprised you the first time you saw your plant’s leaves curling. You maintained a stable system for it since, despite your busy schedule.

Kaeya is beautiful, he had been since the first day you met him. I’m gonna be his wife some day, the younger you thought with a surprising amount of confidence for a 6 year old.

He was beautiful when he shyly hid behind Diluc who introduced you both after Crepus took the boy in.

He was beautiful when he laughed. 

He was beautiful when he developed the cocky yet observant attitude the whole of the city knew him for today. The flare he held was so vibrant it was sometimes easy to forget that Kaeya was a lonelier person underneath it.

I’ll never forget that day. It rained hard after Crepus’ death; it felt like the heavens themselves were mourning.

“Kaeya?!” You rushed out your door the moment you spotted him from your window, not caring about the icy rain pelting your skin. “What are you doing here, you’re getting soaked!” You dropped the towel in your hand when you noticed the cut down his right eye and the blood pouring down the side of his face.

You weren’t able to get out another word before he pulled you into his chest.

Kaeya held you so tightly you thought you would bruise, fingers digging into your back to ground himself. Yet in that moment, all you could do was hug him back just as fiercely. The warm water rolling down the side of your neck was the rain and the sobs racking Kaeya’s body was the thunder.

To this day you weren’t sure how long you’d stood out there before you pulled Kaeya into your home to tend to his wound. When he placed a wet Cryo Vision on your table, you pursed your lips before continuing your movements. It was a miracle that he hadn’t been blinded.

Neither Kaeya or Diluc ever divulged the full extent of what happened that day and you had long since stopped asking. If Kaeya ever planned to tell you the truth, he never hinted at it. That was fine. He could tell you whenever he was ready. You could only hope that one day the two brothers would rekindle their old relationship, you knew that would make Crepus smile warmly from the other side.

You’d been hesitant to tell Kaeya your thoughts of leaving the Knights. It had been on your mind even before the attack happened. Four years ago it terrified you to think what would happen to Kaeya if you left his side in the Knights along with his brother.

Four years later in the present, the hilichurl attack you survived taught you that that alone wasn’t enough reason to stay in a profession you were unsuited for. You could support Kaeya in other ways while you stayed true to yourself.

You cupped Kaeya’s face in your hands, thumbs caressing his cheeks. “I’m always gonna be your partner, whether I’m a knight or not,” you promised firmly, staring into the diamond shaped pupils you’ve known since you were a child. The two of you like this was never a matter of ‘if’ but always a matter of ‘when’. “Even if it isn’t on the field, I’ll be here for you to come home to. You can’t get rid of me even if you try.”

“I’m holding you to your word,” Kaeya’s breath tickled your forehead before you lightly tugged him down to kiss his lips firmly.

I'm sorry I can't think of anything super specific to send you, but in general I'd love to hear more about how you envision the romantic aspect of their relationship and how it might develop, or they types of things they would do together.

I imagine that it starts pretty innocently -- a lot of "hey, walk with me?"

Ashley is so public of a figure and will be for at least a few years after her dad is even out of office that, after she's graduated college, she can't really go on real dates -- whether they're with Leon or not. It's just because of the way politics works and is fucked up in America. Even after her dad's time in office is done, he's still going to be the acting head of his political party and the loudest voice of support in order to get his successor elected. So, any opportunity for scandal that his political opponents can find, they're going to jump on -- even if it's something like HEY DO YOU SEE WHO HIS DAUGHTER IS DATING??????

But walks aren't dates. They're walks. People walk together all the time. And I don't think that Leon and Ashley see them as dates, either -- or even as stand-ins for dates. It's just... something that they do. It's how they hang out. As friends. Because they're friends. People are allowed to have friends.

Nevermind the fact that Leon keeps his hands shoved in his pockets the whole time in order to keep himself from innocently touching her as he talks. Or the fact that Ashley has to consciously beat down her breathless excitement and anxiety for the first five minutes of said walks because she's absolutely crazy about him but is terrified of him ever actually finding that out.

I think they're both in denial for a long time, but for different reasons. Ashley can't imagine a scenario or reality in which Leon would ever actually return her feelings, and Leon knows that anything he feels for her is inappropriate, so he tells himself he doesn't feel anything at all doesn't stop him from thinking about her when he jerks off though.

And this is where I'm of two minds. There's part of me that's really drawn to the "forbidden romantic trysts in the White House" idea because Leon kind of gets off on the danger of it, but then another part of me is like "no, they both just become really adamant about not fading from each other's lives after President Graham's term is up and, in that aggressive effort to stay close, it just boils over and they just end up furiously making out the next time they see each other in person."

But, either way, I don't see them properly dating for a long time even after the feelings come out -- like, we're talking years. Leon and Ashley both tell people they're single; they're not even seeing someone currently. But they're both very, very disinterested in going out with anyone. Maybe a few random hookups happen here and there, but it's only ever to stave off feelings of loneliness and never out of a genuine desire for/attraction to someone else.

Like, a lot of this comes down to not really knowing how the Remake story is actually going to turn out or the ways in which it's going to become different from OG, but, even then, I don't see them becoming "official" until Leon's in his mid-to-late 30s (so, probably around the time just after RE6make, whatever the fuck that's going to look like with the changes in the story).

But until they decide to eventually commit to each other and move in together, I picture their relationship as a lot of texting and long phone calls late at night because phone sex, and in person it's motorcycle rides and midnight walks through empty parks or even a night in at Leon's house -- just things that you wouldn't traditionally think of as "dates" even though they're clearly romantic in nature for anyone to see who has two good eyes in a head that's not shoved up their own ass.

And then when they are finally together, they find that nothing much really changes -- except maybe now he'll actually take her out to dinner every once in a while. And if they're very lucky and the stars align, once in a blue moon they'll be able to hit a concert together, too (because I do imagine that they have a very, very similar taste in music).

The biggest thing that really changes is the amount of time they actually get to spend together, alongside the degree to which they're both willing to be openly affectionate towards each other.

Not-so-nice OC ask game

Alone: How does your OC deal with loneliness? Have they ever been completely alone before? How do they act when there's no one around to see them?

Kalliope: She doesn’t deal with loneliness well AT ALL. Everything in her life revolves around the public’s perception of her and she is all too happy to oblige that. Being alone does not line up with that kind of life, which leads to the fact that she has never been completely alone pretty much ever In her life. Whether it was her family, staff, sycophants, and late Naomi, she pretty much always has someone around her. Because this public persona has pretty much become her, she doesn’t really change when she’s alone. Even when there isn’t anyone around, there’s always an audience.

Katarina: She is okay with loneliness, at times she prefers it. When she was younger, this was a little different, but after Certain Events she prefers it. She finds it hard to trust people nowadays and being around them gives them more chances to poke holes in her, which she hates. She has been completely alone before, frequently in recent days. She is still adjusting to this complete loneliness, but keeping people at arm’s length helps with that, or so she thinks. Once she’s alone, she definitely has a little less bite to her but overall is generally the same

Maeve Trevelyan: If we’re talking pre-inquisition, she’s pretty good with loneliness. She doesn’t necessarily prefer it, but sometimes it is a welcome reprieve. This carries on through inquisition, because being such a public facing figure is exhausting in more ways than one. Completely alone, she has been probably by her own hand. Depending on what’s happened recently, sometimes she seeks that loneliness. Mid-inquisition, this is less frequent as she turns to her companions and friends for reprieves from being the inquisitor. When she’s alone, she is way more casual than people expect. There are no expectations of manners so that all goes out the window.

Xuna: She is very familiar with loneliness, from being an outcast in her own home to being a literal outcast once she’s exiled, she knows how to deal with it. Pre-BG3 she was completely alone more often than not, with her exile, but that obviously changes with the start of the game. She’s honestly not that much different when she’s alone, she doesn’t have any sort of expectations to adhere to so there’s no crazy shifts in personality.

Hate: What does your OC hate? Why? How do they act towards the object of their hatred?

Kalliope: Any paparazzi, most of her family (save for her youngest brother, Theseus), most of her sycophants. They all expect something out of her that she doesn’t want to give up so easily. They all get the same treatment and that is her blunt, biting, poisonous wit. She is pretty much every classic mean girl trope made flesh.

Katarina: Her parents and the cult are her main sources of hatred, obviously because both are the reason she’s even in this mess in the first place (being born simply to be a sacrifice without knowing it will do that to you). When she is faced with them, it’s one of the few moments you see genuine anger from Katarina, as opposed to a dry annoyance, because they ruined her life.

Maeve Trevelyan: Her family, her mother especially. It’s all about expectations, the fact that she’s had so many shoved on her that she didn’t want in the first place, doubly so when they try to keep controlling her life. Faced with them, it’s mostly sarcasm as a response, unless they get her really irritated, to which that will turn into an outburst.

Xuna: Also most of her family (save for Myri), ESPECIALLY her mother (Maeve make an oc without family troubles challenge FAILED), also people who think drow are evil because they’re drow but that’s lower on the list. Her mother has despised her from birth over something she couldn’t control, and her being the matriarch, that obviously trickled down to the rest of the family. In a similar vein, she most sticks with sarcasm as a response (do you notice a theme about my ocs???) but is more inclined to walk away if they’re really irritating her.

Monster: Is your OC monstrous in any way? Is there something that makes them monstrous? Are they aware of their own monstrosity? Do they accept it or reject it? Kalliope: Less monstrous and more of just a bitch, and she is well aware that she is a bitch and plays into it.

Katarina: Absolutely, she doesn’t necessarily look the part but her whole deal as a warlock makes her monstrous. She is definitely aware of it, and she definitely accepts it. To her, it’s power, which she believes she deserves after being powerless for so long.

Maeve Trevelyan: She’s not really monstrous at all, she’s just trying to live her life.

Xuna: If we’re talking in-game, I’d definitely count the illithid powers as her being monstrous as she does tap into them (to an extent, using the astral tadpole and becoming half-illithid is a step too far for her). She is very aware of it, being that it’s the whole plot of the game, and again she mostly accepts it to a certain extent.

Midnight: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping? Kalliope: This woman sleeps like a goddamn baby she doesn’t worry about SHIT (money can solve a lot of problems). The only reason she would be up at night is if she’s partying into the wee hours of the morning.

Katarina: Mostly what keeps her up is her ruminating on her own revenge. She does have nightmares, it’s definitely not uncommon for them to be of the day she became a warlock considering it was the worst day of her life so far. If she isn’t sleeping, she is probably talking to herself (and by extension, her patron).

Maeve Trevelyan: Mostly what’s keeping her up at night is anxiety. Whether she’s doing the right thing, leading the inquisition in the correct way where things will work out. If she can’t or isn’t sleeping, she’s a wanderer. Pre-inquisition, she usually ended up in her family’s library, but during the game she’s commonly seen wandering the battlements of Skyhold.

Xuna: She’s got a lot of things keeping her up at night, many of which have to do with the uninvited visitor in her head. I would say a lot of her current fear stems from that, but having nightmares of her past home life is common for her too. When she should be sleeping, she’s more often than not going through her gear, sharpening her blades and making sure everything is set should she need to move quickly.

Torture: Has your OC ever been tortured? Would your OC ever torture someone else? Kalliope: Not tortured no, unless you count her yearly family dinners as torture (she would). I don’t think she would torture anyone else but she has been known to ruin a reputation or two (or more) with a well-placed word.

Katarina: Yeah I would consider being basically kidnapped and thrown in the ocean as a sacrifice to be torture. She would torture someone else, I think, if she found it justified. Justified in her case means they’re a member of the cult. They tortured her so in her mind she’s right to torture them back.

Maeve Trevelyan: She hasn’t been tortured, just neglected. She wouldn’t torture someone else, she has too much of a soft heart for that.

Xuna: Physically? Not really. Mentally and emotionally? ABSOLUTELY thank you Zelnirra Mizzrune for that one. Being told you’re a blight on your family for your entire life sticks with you. She wouldn’t torture someone else, she doesn’t find any sort of purpose to it when there’s other ways to get what she wants.

Hello again. I sent you an ask earlier about my wacky theory🫣. RJ(R)<- ->M. He he. It was nonsensical but it has a chokehold on me.

I was wondering mainly about Marius' personality though. I only read half of QotD but the thing I can't reconcile is the fact that 'Raglan James' is so weasel like. Like Justin Kirk plays him so incompetent and goofy. He was totally waiting for Daniel to pay for his Mackerel! Sly. The amount of times he talked about the fish and was disappointed in the end lol. I don't remember Marius being like this in TVL. I don't doubt he's involved somehow but he was so imposing and god like from what I remembered. Like marble or stone. Is Marius also good at acting? These vampires need to take over Hollywood not Real Estate if that's the case.

Prev ask: Hi! What do think about Raglan James being "Rashid" and "Rashid" being Marius? That sort of body swap. I don't know much (at all) but I have a general knowledge about Marius. I had a weird feeling about Rashid when I saw him placed next to Marius' painting in one of the episodes. It was so CLEAR he was positioned there for the shot. I think it was episode 1 or 2. The only thing that makes me think I am speaking out my ass is the fact that Raglan James has a weird accent. (Do accents travel with bodyswaps?) And why would that sort of bodyswap even be necessary. But then again why can Daniel all of a sudden remember with Rashid back from vacation? Where was he? Why did the veneers crack then? How can Rashid lie blatantly about who he spoke to? It wasn't omission. Bro couldn't handle chopsticks. Ugh I am gonna read all the books during the hiatus. I am going crazy. I think that’s way too complicated for TV. I see the vision but I do think Rashid is Rashid I just really don’t think Raglan is who he says and that is IS Marius. I might be wrong but I’m willing to be my good knee at this point.

Marius personality depends on the books and how’s he’s perceived like many of the books and characters. In TVL he’s very calm, he’s a teacher and a scholar but immensely powerful. In QOTD he is quite prideful but Blood and Gold gives a lot about his personality. He’s quick to loneliness, he can be rash (turning Pandora),

I’m reading blood and gold and have some kites about his personality as I read.

Some stuff I’ve made note of that I think hawk his personality (not finished the book yet):

If you and I had been parented by Yi Bang-won, we would have DIED before reaching the tender age of 12, considering that Yi Bang won had no compunctions in killing off children related to him, but our baby boy SURVIVED multiple purges to become King, most likely because Yi Bang won thought he was clever but lacked the ambition or fire to be a threat to his own power.  However, in this Yi Bang won was FOOLED, because despite being paralyzed by a very justified fear of his PSYCHOTIC FATHER , who basically idk chopped off entire branches from the family tree and who eventually not so subtly suggested that his OWN SON and HEIR  that he’d CHOSEN personally, OFF himself, it turns out that Yi Do is a bit of a chip off the old block minus the murder-gene. [Note to self: The murder gene skipped a generation, hiii King Sejo] . Time catches up with all villains, and Yi Do made the first decision that made me go crazy for him- and it was just to SURVIVE his father, and like? The way he does it? He’s so CLEVER about it, is the thing- he gives his father the thing he wants when he says I’ll let you control the military and be advised by you in all matters of state, but it was only to get the thing he wants- the thing that he knows will enable him to build his Joseon. I’ll never forget Yi Bang won’s contemptuous little expression when Yi Do says, “I want to gather scholars together,” and Yi Bang won snorts and says, sure, go ahead, make a little building, and that little building, my friends, is the Jiphyeonjeon, or the Hall of Worthies. And of course, Yi Bang won, who sees the world as a thing to be conquered, would never understand his son’s vision; or have the patience to see it through because that would require, idk, humility? Whatever, he’s DYING, goodbye child murderer, thanks for the land and tax reform and introduction of id cards aka surveillance state, I GUESS. 

Skip forward and we have THE GREATEST GLOW UP IN MODERN CINEMATIC HISTORY when  Song Joong-ki morphs into Han Suk-kyu with his crinkly eyes and odd barks of laughter, as the older Yi-do/Sejong. And *this * Sejong? A brilliant, mercurial, tormented insomniac, who has no TIME to PLAY when MYSTERIOUS ENEMIES are picking off his people one by one, and stopping him from playing HIS GREATEST GAMBLE, the introduction of a native script that would set his people free. Going up against HISTORY, as several people say over and over; he’s going to overturn the established socio-political order and  he’s going to do it while cussing you out like a commoner. The balls on this man? Pure steel. 

It’s not just that he’s lonely because of his position, and everything that entails- which includes a physical isolation quite unique to it- it’s also that he’s the smartest man in every room he walks into, and that is it’s own special kind of loneliness. To understand the world that well, to be able to see beyond the surface, to be burdened with purpose, is to consign yourself to a private hell. And how he struggles! GOD. It’s not just his father’s legacy that torments him- what if Yi Bang won had been right after all, and why shouldn’t he use his power in the way he’s expected to- but the person he’s still answering to is his younger self- the scared, shamed child who hid behind giant sudokus, unable to confront his father or mitigate the misery of those whose lives Bang won ruined. See, someone as clever as him: he can the paths branching out in front of him; he can see the game board ten, twenty, fifty moves from now- he knows the things he’s capable of. 

And yet? He chooses the path of least harm, even when it increases the probability that he’ll lose.  He’s so good. Even in his darkest hours, in the face of incalculable loss, he won’t take the  succor , however momentary, that exercising his absolute power as King would surely give him. Instead, he chooses the hard way: the way of persuasion. But it’s not just the power of ideas in abstract; he’s very pragmatical about his tactics. I love that his wins come because he can read people- Lee Shin jeok, for eg, and even Jo Mal Saeng. He schemes AND plots AND negotiates AND persuades and he’s so clever and funny and RIGHT for it. 

One of the most moving scenes in the show is where he’s bidding farewell to So-yi, his beloved comrade,  and gives her a command that is also a blessing :Live in joy, that’s translated as.  Sejong himself has been cut off from that joy for nearly his entire life by then, because duty and responsibility  and all consuming purpose have taken precedence over everything else; it takes him till the end to be certain in his own mind that all of those were in fact, born from love, and not as he had feared, the little worm that his father had bequeathed him, and that nestles in the heart of all people. I love that in the end, he comes to this very beautiful conclusion: do the work, enjoy the wildflowers and the blue sky, because that’s all we can do, in hope and love, and the future will take care of its own. 

Tl;dr I am getting those Sejong the Great booty shorts even as I type this.

2023 has been an interesting year for me…i’ve been through a really rough breakup, met my bff, made a lot more friends and have also started reading fanfiction and writing again!!

a favorite thing i discovered was probably the writing community here on tumblr and the wonderful world of shounen anime! yay i’m traumatized but at least i’m satisfied

reflections—i’m really glad that this year has been full of craziness, mostly because it’s helped me grow a lot. even since my birthday in july i’ve become a better person, be that in my decisions or emotionally.

in 2024 i’m aiming to fill my year with more love than the last. and hopefully less of it unrequited. and i want to write more!!!!! because jjk has filled me with creativity i haven’t had in years :DD

and i want to hangout with people more. be more social. because what’s life without the people you love along with you? i’m hoping my 2024 will be much more eventful than 2023, but hopefully in more positive ways. i wish that i had the freedom i now have in early 2023 so that i could have had a much better social life and be just genuinely happier because it was a really hard time for me—depression was kicking my ass and loneliness started hitting after my first breakup this year. but i’m doing much better now!!!!!

i’m excited for a new year and happy for how far i’ve come in ‘23, but i’m also excited for it to be over because i need a clean slate 😭 thank you so much for asking!!! i hope you have a wonderful new year how ever you’re celebrating it and i’m excited for the new year in this little community :)

The Banshees of Inisherin: A few thoughts

A roundup of the themes which were apparent to me on my first watch.

Padraic is content with his life - until he is cut off by his lifelong friend, Colm, after which he is forced to ponder the meaning of his existence and confront some uncomfortable truths about himself: he is "nice" man, but a limited person. As the villagers remark, Colm and Padraic were indeed an odd pair. While Padraic is "one of the good guys of life", Colm is a "thinker", a folk singer with an intellectual appetite and a desire to be remembered.

Does "niceness" leave behind a lasting legacy?

According to Colm, it doesn't. Niceness doesn't last, and that is why he has abruptly ended his friendship with Padraic. He is now dead set on leaving behind a legacy in the form of his music. He has decided to give his life a purpose.

The absurdity of finding a purpose and the pursuit of legacy

Here again McDonagh delivers a deeply cynical commentary on the purpose of one's existence. Colm's "purpose" ends his relationship with Padraic, and Padraic, for the first time, finds himself in possession of a purpose: vengeance. But this very "purpose" destroys the thing that was at the core of his character: niceness. He loses Dominic, his only other friend in the village, because of his desire for vengeance.

Existence is absurd, banshees seems to whisper. It is a bloody farce.

A bloody farce, quite literally.

What starts as a small town story soon becomes a tale of mythic rage

Colm starts chopping off his fingers at throwing them at Padraic's door every time Padraic barges into his life.

What does Colm want from Padraic?

Silence, he tells Siobhan.

Colm wants silence to be able to hear the sound of his own music.

With each finger he chops off, he's endangering his ability to play the fiddle - Colm is heavily aware of this irony, but he goes through with his plan anyway.

The message is clear - he would sooner suffer the loss of an appendage than suffer Padraic's continued presence in his life - it is a shocking declaration.

What do the fingers symbolise?

An accusation is the act of pointing fingers. So when Colm throws his severed fingers at Padraic's door, is it symbolic of an accusation?

There is yet another layer of irony here: Colm cuts off his fingers in a way to rid himself of Padraic, but henceforth every time he looks down at his hands he will be reminded of Padraic. So does he actually cherish his past memories with Padraic? Or did he simply not think his plan through?

Depression and male loneliness

But before Colm goes nuclear, before the craziness escalates, there is a time when Padraic is convinced that his friend is depressed. He discusses this in furtive whispers with his sister Siobhan, highlighting the stigma surrounding mental health at the time. When Siobhan asks Padriac whether he gets lonely, Padriac reacts as if it's an absurd notion, as if she had questioned his masculinity, once again bringing into focus the prevailing attitudes about men's mental health.

Dominic: The "Village Idiot"

It is clear that everybody thinks of Dominic as the village idiot, including Padraic and Siobhan. But over the course of the movie, we hear him make some astute observations, and as his trauma is revealed to us, we begin to understand his character better. His father, an abusive policeman, is the only truly villainous person we meet in the film.

Paedar: The Policeman

What makes Banshees so interesting is its refusal to pick sides: we empathize with both Colm and Padriac and laugh at and eventually grow troubled by the increasing absurdity of their actions. In Paedar, however, we meet a character who's unanimously awful. Whether he's a symbol of something bigger (how power corrupts/the moral bankruptcy of those in power etc) or meant to be taken at face value, it works in the film because we can place people like him in real life all too easily.

Confessions

There is something myth-like about Padraic's beloved donkey Jenny choking on one of Colm's severed fingers and fueling Padraic's rage, something vaguely biblical.

When Colm confesses to the priest that he feels guilty for having indirectly caused Jenny's death, the priest replies that killing a donkey is not a sin in the eyes of God. Slapping a policeman, however, he out points to Colm, is a sin.

And perhaps that is where things started to go wrong, Colm says.

An allegory for the Irish civil war

Across the water from inisherin, the village folk hear explosions. Banshees is set in 1923, and with this added historical context, the dispute between Colm and Padraic can be viewed as the civil war in a microcosm: brothers with a shared history violently fighting each other.

The Banshee

"The Banshees of Inisherin" is the title of the tune that Colm composes over the course of the movie, and of course, the title of the movie itself. While there are no literal banshees in the movie, the "ghoulish" Mrs McCormick can be likened to one. She looms over our cast of characters like a malcontent spirit and signals the death of dominic kearney, the deaths off the coast of inisherin, and the death of Colm and Padraic's friendship.

OK, I'll be annoying and explain (as simply as possible)-

-The intro to the whole show are two characters on Red Team, Grif (in orange armor) and Simmons (in dark red/maroon armor). The conversation they have, containing the lines "Do you ever wonder why we're here?"/"It's one of life's great mysteries" becomes a repeated theme through the series (sometimes as a joke, sometimes as something more deep)

-Grif is a lazy rule-breaker, Simmons is a bossy know-it all. They are constantly side-by-side, talking and bickering. Sometimes they agree and vibe with the same ideas, but they also know exactly how to drive each other crazy. Even when the plot splits the main characters up, Grif and Simmons were still stuck together every time. They've had to be roommates, with all the arguments that come from sharing the same space

-They also know each other better than anybody else, and though they don't like to admit it, are pretty much best friends. Other characters have called them an "Old married couple", and their leader Sarge automatically assumes one will always know where the other is, like that is just their job. Once, during a big battle, Grif started to go over a cliff, Simmons grabbed his hand, and Grif called out "Don't let go!". It was all very dramatic

-The voice actor for Grif once shared fun-facts about the character in an interview, and said "He's secretly in love with Simmons". In recent years, both voice actors for Grif and Simmons played as the characters doing a "talk show" together, and even used the ship name that fans came up with "Grimmons"

-At one point, there was a magic sci-fi alien temple that, when activated, made everybody on the planet super-duper aroused. Grif and Simmons were "stuck in a closet together" during that event

-In a later season, there was a whole plot line with Grif wanting to stop with all the dangerous adventures, and a scene involved him looking at Simmons saying "I quit"/"Quit what?"/"You". Simmons couldn't shut up about how annoying Grif was and how he DEFINITELY doesn't miss Grif at ALL the whole time they were separated. Grif became depressed with guilt and loneliness, gathered up a bunch of volleyballs, put designs of all the helmets of his friends on them, and kept trying to apologize for leaving the group. He was especially awkward when trying to talk to the Simmons-volleyball. When they finally reunite, and have a moment where they apologize and say it is good to see each other again, another character implies he is expecting them to kiss

-The characters meet some evil look-alikes. Most of them have the same armor color but different voice actors, except for Simmons; Gene has the same VA (Simmons claims there is no similarity, and Gene is sooo annoying). In a scene with Gene and Simmons fighting, Grif arrives, and that cliche of "Shoot him, I'M the real Simmons!"/"No, I'M Simmons, shoot HIM!" plays out. Grif asks "Why are we here?". One guy in maroon armor says they're here to kill the bad-guys. The other one says "We don't know why we're here. It's still one of life's great mysteries"

-OK, now FORGET everything with the magic sci-fi temple, being in a closet, the evil look-alikes, getting "divorced" and the call-back to "Why are we here". After 18 seasons, the finale of the series did a ret-con, so season 19 takes place after season 13. In this story line, Simmons offers Grif the chance to finally be discharged and leave all this fighting nonsense behind, which Grif has always wanted. He immediately says to Simmons "Come with me". Simmons wants to finish dealing with one last problem, so Grif stays to help. It gets resolved, and before Grif leaves, he asks if Simmons will come visit him. Simmons just says he wont. After 21 years of being glued at the hip, they are separated. The end

(this is just the high-light reel, I'm leaving out SO MUCH of them just being stupid for each other)

a lot of the popular “queerbait” ships are just “these two characters are friends / they stood close together once” but every once in a while i’ll stumble into an unfamiliar ship tag and see shit like “in episode 169 Scrungko gives Blorbis multiple prostate orgasms with an anal vibrator while pretending to date him” and like. idk what the hell is going on there. but if it’s not queerbait then they just invented something even more insane. maybe y'all are right sometimes.
