Ingredients Servings: 8 people (makes 1 loaf) Cranberry Bread Ingredients 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup milk, room temperature Zest of 1 large orange, divided 1/4 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened 3/4 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs, room temperature 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries, rinsed and patted dry 1/2 Tbsp all-purpose flour Orange Glaze Ingredients: 1 cup powdered sugar 1 1/2 Tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice, or to reach desired consistency 1 tsp orange zest, reserved from the orange above Instructions How to Make Orange-Cranberry Delight Bread: Prep: Preheat oven to 350?F. Allow to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then run a cake release tool or knife around the edges and transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing. To Make the Glaze: In a separate bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, orange juice, and reserved teaspoon of zest. Stir until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding more orange juice to thin it out or powdered sugar to thicken it.

I always get so excited when I see your prompt lists. I also always have such a hard time choosing because they’re all always so good!
I’m requesting two this time 😂 freshly baked breads and Making the house super cozy with Nat please??
EEEEEEEPP!!!! Sylvie, Sylvie my love, you know I'd be more than happy to do this for you!!! (lol).
Tumblr media
The first frost of the year still coated the ground, the skies looking overcast as ever and giving your yard a big helping of spooky even though it was only late September. Your hands kept working away at the grainy, doughy mixture in the bowl, kneading it until everything was properly mixed together.
"Still workin at it sweet cheeks?" Natasha asked, folding up one of the throw blankets and draping it over the back of the couch.
"Been working at it since I woke up," you told her. "I've got two more that need to go into the oven and this one which needs to proof."
Natasha cracked a bit of a smile as she kept folding up the blankets and setting out all the stuff for fall. As soon as the dough was ready to proof, you stuck it in the warmest spot you could find, took the other two out and plopped them right into the loaf pans to bake, coating them over in just a little bit of egg before sticking them into the oven.
"Which one's first?" Natasha asked.
"The cranberry one," you told her.
"Oooooh," Natasha groaned. "That's gonna smell real good."
You spent the entire morning making the house as cozy as possible with lots of reds, oranges, yellows, browns and pine greens and soon the whole house had begun to smell good with the loaves baking away in the oven. The coffee maker was soon brewing away with a cinnamon pastry coffee streaming into two cups, filling the whole kitchen alongside the scent of the bread.
Out of the oven came the cranberry loaf and in went the rosemary and olive oil and the overwhelmingly grainy one you had worked at earlier. You coated the cranberry one in a powdered sugar glaze, serving you and Natasha both a slice to go alongside the coffee.
"You think it's gonna start snowing soon?" she asked.
"At some point," you said with a shrug. "Guess until then we enjoy what we've got."
You kissed each other with the taste of cranberry still lingering on each other's lips, the house cozy as ever and the two of you eager to enjoy the lazy weekend ahead.

What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet? We've only ever had cats and fish, but none of our cats were particularly hefty.
Do you own any heirloom jewelry? I don't.
What were you doing at this time yesterday? I was at the animal shelter, in the midst of cleaning kennels. But this time on this day, I'm baking a chaotic carrot cake based on available ingredients and a dash of diabolical whimsy. It's in the oven now, so we'll see how it turns out. It doesn't really matter if it's a disaster because it's just for my dad and I to enjoy. No one at the animal shelter will have to deal with this atrocity. :')
Do you own any kind of helmet? No.
Out of everything currently in your refrigerator, what food or drink is your favorite? We've got a lot of desserts/treats in there at the moment - sugar cookies, banana walnut bread, cream cheese brownies, orange cranberry muffins, some things my dad brought home from synagogue… The cream cheese brownies are probably my favorite. So rich and so good. As for something not dessert-related, my favorite thing would be Greek yogurt. When it comes to drinks, I think there's a half-finished bottle of Powerade, some coffee creamer, and almond milk. And my favorite in that case would be the coffee creamer.
Are your initials in alphabetical order? No.
Has anyone ever answered one of your surveys with a rude attitude? Sudden flashbacks to Hold My Keys or whatever her username was. Came out of nowhere, kept "arrowing" my answers with rude remarks, and accused me of speaking like I was from the 19th century (not sure why I should consider that an insult, but to be fair, my vocab choices probably were a bit extra).
Do you like the taste of cough syrup? I don't mind the grape kind, but the cherry kind is BLEH.
What is something you like to have conversations about? History, the paranormal, conspiracies, philosophy, religion, politics, current events, random everyday stupid shit…
Do you ever put fruit on your cereal? Pretty sure I've had cereal with bananas before. I don't really eat milky cereal these days, though. If anything I'll make a fruit and yogurt bowl and top it with a bit of whatever cereal we have on hand.
Is your heat or air conditioning currently on? The furnace is running downstairs.
How do you usually celebrate your favorite holiday? I can't settle on a favorite holiday. It's a tie between Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. For this Thanksgiving, instead of buying a bunch of premade/just-add-water side dishes, I'm planning on doing my own cooking/baking. Roast chicken (not gonna make a whole turkey when it's just the two of us), apple pie, glazed carrots, macaroni salad, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes…maybe my dad will make a loaf of homemade bread. I think the only thing that will be box-made will be the stuffing.
Have you ever been on a houseboat? No.
Which do you value more, your appearance or your intelligence? Intelligence.
Do you learn from your mistakes? It might take a while in some cases, but I do eventually learn from my mistakes.
Do you learn from the mistakes of others? Yeah.
Any guess as to why some people draw out the last letter when they type, likee thiss forrr exampleee? I do it for emphasis, like I'm mimicking the way I would say it out loud.
What’s the last nice thing you did for someone? I guess volunteering is nice.
Were your grandparents present when you were born? I don't think so.
Have you ever eaten/drank something and then realized it was past the expiration date? Yeah.
Do you own any jewelry containing your birthstone? I don't.
What is something unusual that annoys you? It's not all that unusual, but whenever someone tries to talk to me while I'm typing or reading. It's frustrating to be interrupted and it ruins my concentration flow. Obviously not a big deal, but a peeve nonetheless.

Recipe Roundup in Review
In years past, I posted a two-month series of recipes suitable for the autumn season, which everyone seemed to enjoy very much. I’ve been too busy this year to make up a new queue, so I thought I’d compile a big long list of links for anyone who’s looking for recipe ideas this fall.
Update: I’ve posted more recipes since the original roundup and I’ve added those additional links to the list below. I’ve also done my best to mark which ones are vegetarian (🌿) or could be easily altered to be so. (Some could also be altered for a vegan diet using egg, milk, or butter substitutes.) Recipes which may include alcohol as an ingredient are also marked (🍷).
Some are fall-themed, others are for more wintry occasions. But all are designed to make the most of the season and keep our hearts and bellies full as we face the coming cold. Enjoy!

The Yule and Winter Solstice Menu: Recipes for the Winter Holidays
The holiday season offers dishes that warm the body and comfort the soul. At the Winter Solstice the focus is on rich, hearty, and nurturing. The season celebrates displays and masterful cooking through roasted dishes, slow cooked stews, bright salads with pops of fruity flavor, and sweets that double as delicious gifts. Seasonal fruits and vegetables include beets, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, Citrus Fruits, Cranberries, dates, escarole, fennel, horseradish, kale, parsnips, pears, persimmons, pomegranate, radishes, sweet potatoes, and winter squash.
At this time of the year I like to honor the traditions and the foods that my family cooked. I love the nostalgic feeling of creating recipes that my parents had at Christmastime, so you may find recipes inspired by that. Do you have a dish that reminds you of the winter season and December holidays? Is there something you traditionally make for your Yule or Winter Solstice celebrations that I didn’t put on this list? Please let me know and I will add it!

Orange Cranberry Bread
Serving: 1 loaf
Ingredients
For the bread
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup granulated sugar
Zest of 1 large orange
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canola or vegetable oil
2 large eggs slightly beaten
1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup fresh cranberries roughly chopped
For the orange glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
Directions
Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray a 8½" x 4½" loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. In a small bowl, combine sugar and orange zest. Rub together with your fingers until fragrant. Whisk into the flour mixture. Set aside.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil, eggs, orange juice, and vanilla.
Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Fold in the cranberries. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
Bake for 70-75 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. If your loaf starts to get too brown drape a piece of foil over the top to finish baking. I did this during the last 10 minutes of the baking time.
Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack and cool for 15 minutes. Loosen the sides of the bread with a knife. Carefully remove loaf from pan. Let cool completely on wire rack.
While the bread is cooling, make the orange glaze. In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest. Whisk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the bread. Cut and serve.
Note-store the bread, wrapped, on the counter for 2-3 days.
