Thingol didn’t want the Silmaril!

For rock and steel and the fires of Morgoth keep the jewel that I would possess against all the powers of the Elf-kingdoms. Yet I hear you say that bonds such as these do not daunt you. Go your way therefore! Bring to me in your hand a Silmaril from Morgoth’s crown; and then, if she will, Lúthien may set her hand in yours. Then you shall have my jewel; and though the fate of Arda lie within the Silmarils, yet you shall hold me generous.’

After Beren left, Thingol answered ‘I sell not to Elves or Men those whom I love and cherish above all treasure. And if there were hope or fear that Beren should come ever back alive to Menegroth, he should not have looked again upon the light of heaven, though I had sworn it.’

He wasn’t greedy and obsessed with the gem - he just wanted Luthien to not leave him. I know, he imprisoned her, but it was to stop her (in his mind) throwing away her immortal life for a poor, short lived, vagabond.

Also, let’s remember, Elrond, kind as summer Elrond set Arwin’s bride price crazy high too. Aragorn had to defeat Sauron, become king of Gondor (which, again, he wasn’t heir to) AND raise Arnor, a kingdom that hadn’t existed for a thousand years, from scratch.

Tuor’s father and uncle and all their people died to save Turgon AND there was a prophecy that Turgon’s and Huor’s line, when mixed, would produce a star to save ME.

THINGOL DIDN’T ACTUALLY REQUIRE THE SILMARIL!

(Plus, he had a sense of humour)

But Beren said: ‘It is fulfilled. Even now a Silmaril is in my hand.’ Then Thingol said: ‘Show it to me!’ And Beren [...] held up his right arm [Carcharoth had bitten off his hand with the Silmaril held inside]; and from that hour he named himself Camlost, the Empty-handed.

Then Thingol’s mood was softened; and Beren sat before his throne upon the left, and Lúthien upon the right, and they told all the tale of the Quest, while all there listened and were filled with amazement. And it seemed to Thingol that this Man was unlike all other mortal Men, and among the great in Arda, and the love of Lúthien a thing new and strange; and he perceived that their doom might not be withstood by any power of the world. Therefore at the last he yielded his will, and Beren took the hand of Lúthien before the throne of her father.

They had no idea where Carcharoth and the jewel were!

Once Beren proved himself worthy and Thingol saw how much Luthien loved him, he agreed to let Beren marry Luthien WITHOUT THE SILMARIL!

Can't believe Bruce canonically picked up a random 12yo homeless child who had no intent to become a vigilante and suddenly thrust Robin onto him without asking if that's what he wanted because he missed Dick (whom he fired because being Robin was too dangerous) and people still act like any take that's not "all the Batkids became vigilantes on their own completely independent of Bruce (who tried so hard to stop them but sadly just couldn't do it)" is a complete idiotic bad-faith take and that you're crazy if you disagree with people saying that Bruce has never ever absolutely NEVER picked up a kid for the purpose of making them into a vigilante.

Out of all of the people The Ghost King Phantom expected to relate to, it definitely wasn’t the scrawny red headed photographer of the Daily Planet. Jimmy Olsen has gotten so many temporary superpowers over his time being Superman’s friend. Hell, he once gained a 4th dimensional being’s reality warping abilities when he was given said dimensional being’s powers during a fight. Sure there’s a dozen or so heroes with the same amount of powers he has, but none as suddenly granted to them as a all powerful god that can relate to a teenager.

Every day I think about what terrible advice "Don't draw ugly people" is..... I shouldn't be surprised by tiktok/youtube """""art advice"""" but it is kinda genuinely baffling that anybody ever said that whole-heartedly and meant it

#this new age of art ''advice'' is a fucking scourge honestly. like 95% of it is worthless at best and actively detrimental at worst #but that one clip in particular rattles around my head every so often #like what.....#in general. i think most bad art advice comes from the mindset that there's an endgoal to art #-the goal of drawing someone isn't to make them attractive; a character can look good/interesting without being #traditionally attractive. it's not a sign of bad art to draw a character that doesn't look like a sexyman #you HAVE to learn how to draw and stylize features and body types that aren't traditionally attractive. please #i could go on about this but. please draw ugly people

Why are ppl scared to call it what it is and say we’re still going thru covid on top of seasonal illness. Like. That’s pretty important right. I was watching the news and they were like oh yeah we have an unprecedented number of flu cases “as well as other sicknesses” without actually saying Covid. No announcement abt vaccinations or masking or anything. Also if I hear someone joking abt “war flashbacks” for mentioning covid I fucking hate u

#source: most of my family members are nurses and it was so bad for one of them they had to be put on a ventilator. in the hospital they #worked at. looking back I think I had a reason to feel a little offput by the shows of support early pandemic #with people tying blue ribbons around trees and lighting signs blue to support healthcare workers #I get that it was supposed to be moral support when we couldn’t do anything but follow health advisories #and it did matter to make them feel uplifted and do something than nothing. im not gonna deny that #but. you can still help now. u know that right. you still have a responsibility here #u can still mask up. u can still get vaxxed and call in sick to avoid infecting others #don’t leave it on healthcare workers to pick up the pieces just because they were doing it before. do u think they had a choice?#nobody likes picking up the slack for someone else and now that we have more tools to do smth couldn’t we just. do it????#im not a virologist but i also feel like continuing to let it get worse by letting more mutations develop #could continue to set us back since this virus is pretty good at fucking us up long term and finding new ways to do that #while there are ppl still researching covid which is STILL A RELATIVELY NEW VIRUS. and studying possible treatment and cures #yapping #vent
