"Hey guys I got whooping cough."
"OH! OHOHOH! BEGONE SICKLY ONE! QUARENTINE RIGHT F*CKING NOW I CAN'T BE GETTING THAT."
"Woah calm down--"
"Do not tell me to calm down! Do you have any idea how contagious this shit is?!?!"
"Well, I heard but I'm wearing a mask and I'm literally on the other side of the glass wall, talking to you on the phone right now!"
"Like I give a rat's ass! I work at the child centre!! I. CAN'T. GET. WHOOPING. COUGH. BEGONE. NOW."
"Okay okay okay! I get it, going now! only like 8 of the kids could get it anyways...not even the same species."
"Love you!! I'll make you some cabbage soup!" with that she goes back to her lunch. Oblivious to the strange looks from her co-workers.
"Uh, what's whooping cough?" asked Op reaching for the salt with her tail.
"A very contagious human disease that gives you a nasty cough for several days to a few weeks."
"Oh, that doesn't sound too bad."
"Yeah but it can make you feel just awful and is actually very dangerous for infants, young children, and the elderly."
"How dangerous?" Fenrir asked
"Well...they could die."
*silence*
"Its not often though, usually rare, they're just more at risk. I mean I had it when I was a baby and look! I'm perfectly fine."
For a while no one said anything. Just eating. Until Fenrir asked another question.
"Why is it called whooping cough?"
"Because that's what it sounds like. The inhale sounds like a whooping noise. But according to my parents I sounded more like a barking seal."
"What does a seal sound like?"
"Hold on." she fishes out her phone and finds a video of a seal barking.
*Seal noises*
"...and what does whooping cough sound like?"
*Whooping coughing noises, which honestly sounds like someone coughing up their heart and soul*
"...how the f*ck are you alive???"
"I second that."
"My Dad tucked me into his coat and walked out in the winter air so that it would clear my lungs."
"That's it?!"
"Cold air is what saved you from death?!"
"...I mean I probably had some antibiotics but yeah. There's no real cure, just a vaccine."
"THERE'S NO CURE FOR THAT?!"

I'm sick, and hormonal, and scared, and I feel like I'm being told I'm an idiot for wanting to take every precaution to limit a literal newborn's exposure to serious illness... like I'm just being neurotic about a cold and not diseases that have literally killed people 🙃 like it isn't established fact that new babies are at a known disadvantage with an underdeveloped immune system and that the antibodies they get through pregnancy and breastfeeding HELP but aren't enough to throw caution to the wind and just LET them be exposed to shit...?? idk I feel like I'm being treated like I'm crazy and stupid and expecting too much for the people around me to just be a little bit careful 🙃

SICK MOTHER AND INFANT TRAPPED IN GAZA
Suad Ahmad is an engineer from north Gaza. You can read all about Suad’s chaotic and terrifying situation in our tag “Suad Ahmad”.
Recently, Suad, her infant son Khaled, and their family fell under an evacuation order by the occupation, meaning their location would be invaded and further bombed at any time. They were forced to flee on foot, and were completely without a tent, forced to live in the streets and on the beach. The intense heat and sun continued to worsen Khaled’s ongoing chest infection, and insect attacks caused him to have an allergic reaction.
They managed to find a room in the home of an extended family member, which provided Khaled protection from heat and insects. However, the occupation then issued another evacuation order. Suad and her family fled the home within minutes of it being bombed by the occupation. The following photos were taken within 30 minutes of each other: the left being a photo taken on Khaled smiling in a bassinet, and the right being a photo taken of the same spot just a few minutes later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently, they are temporarily staying with another family. They hope to return to the home where they were and repair what remains of the room in which they were staying. However, this will not happen for some time.
Yesterday, Khaled began having coughing fits due to the constant presence of dust in the air. The dust is a result of the incessant bombings by the occupation, causing a cloud of debris, dirt, and toxic substances like asbestos to hang in the air. This has greatly aggravated his chest infection, and his fever has spiked once again. The debris dust has also caused Suad herself to suffer a negative reaction, including painful blotches on her skin.
Suad and Khaled are in desperate need of funds to survive. They require funds to procure medication, pay for what room and board they can find, receive food and water and formula for Khaled, and negotiate transportation for when they will need to evacuate again. In addition, they are raising funds to pay for documents that will allow them to evacuate Gaza through Rafah crossing. The crossing is believed by some to be opening soon, and we want Suad, Khaled, and their family to be able to evacuate as soon as possible.
Please support Suad and Khaled so that they can survive and find a better life.

Baby Excitement

The opposite of baby panic
The days following Bob's birth were a flurry of excitement and upset sleep schedules, and Robert had a two of his friends come over during it, and literally all he would talk about was anything to do about his new son.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankfully, they were pretty understanding. After all, it's an entirely new Sim that didn't exist a few days ago. That's pretty crazy.
A whole new experience began once Bob aged up into an infant. Now, he can be held, he can crawl, he can go behind the confines of the bassinet in Mags and Robert's bedroom. How thrilling!
Tumblr media
Now, they can began to learn what kind of Sim Bob will grow up to be. There was a bit of a rocky start on Robert's end, as he's still learning how to interact with a Sim that can't talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mags had a modicum more success, by pairing a chat with some food (and hoping Bob doesn't spit it all up afterward).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between caring for Bob, and their overlapping work schedules, Mags and Robert were having a hard time finding time for themselves. Just a night for themselves, that wouldn't be interrupted by Bob being his infant self. A few weeks after Bob's birthday, once the two of them had established a routine for all of them, Mags had managed to find a babysitter, and they were able to go on a dinner date to a new fancy restaurant. Mags was particularly excited for it, since they claimed to specialize in "experimental foods".

On the other side of Brindleton Bay, the Simovitch family was also rearranging themselves around their new baby, Betty. The atmosphere was very cozy, warm, and romantic (according to Fatima, anyway).
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Betty was left entirely by herself in her room, but luckily she didn't do what most infants do (fall backwards and crack their heads on the floor). Fatima is steadily warming up to being a mother, including the less savory aspects (post-bottle burps).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vadim and Fatima tend to Betty interchangeably, mostly depending on who went to sleep first. This night, Vadim was the one who had to get up and feed Betty (in the dark of the living room for some reason, even though there was a perfectly good chair in Betty's room).
Tumblr media
I realized that I have my Sims basically celebrate Christmas with every Winterfest, and since I was repeating Winterfest due to my finaggling, I decided to not do the same exact thing that I have done previously, and have Winterfest be Hannukah for the Simovitch family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vadim ended up being pranked by his own prank gift, which he didn't find that funny, but Fatima got a nice gift (I don't remember what it was though). Betty didn't get any gifts, I guess because she is an infant, but like, infants get all kinds of gifts in real life. Idk, next year she'll be able to get something good.
The year did not end well for the Simovitchs, as there was (once again) a fire. Vadim started it by making some breakfast while Fatima and Betty were still sleeping, and his kindness was rewarded with flames.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortunately, Vadim was able to extinguish it with his freeze ray, and he also conquered his fear of fire, but then Fatima got a fear of fire from this fire, so the cycle continues. Betty had the most fun of all, by being outside for the first time.

Me: *feeling drowsy and cozy abt 130 or so idefk*
My Lungs: so, check it out. we took a single drag of the outside air which contains particulates of smoke, not even enough to smell it or make the air look bad. and we decided we hate that, 6 hrs after the fact. so how about you take a drag off that inhaler.
Me: but that's...if I use my emergency inhaler, I'll be wired and trembling for hours...
My Lungs: no yeah we know, but that single breath six hours ago was gross and we're lodging a complaint right now.
Me, Now: *quivering bc that inhaler tho*

Dear President Biden and Vice President Harris, We are 99 American physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, and midwives who have volunteered in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. Combined, we spent 254 weeks volunteering in Gaza’s hospitals and clinics. We worked with various nongovernmental organizations and the World Health Organization in hospitals and clinics throughout the Strip. In addition to our medical and surgical expertise, many of us have a public health background, as well as experience working in humanitarian and conflict zones, including Ukraine during the brutal Russian invasion. Some of us are veterans and reservists. We are a multifaith and multiethnic group. None of us support the horrors committed on October 7 by Palestinian armed groups and individuals in Israel.
We are among the only neutral observers who have been permitted to enter the Gaza Strip since October 7. Given our broad expertise and direct experience of working throughout Gaza we are uniquely positioned to comment on several matters of importance to our government as it decides whether to continue supporting Israel’s attack on, and siege of, the Gaza Strip. Specifically, we believe we are well positioned to comment on the massive human toll from Israel’s attack on Gaza, especially the toll it has taken on women and children.
This letter and the appendix show probative evidence that the human toll in Gaza since October is far higher than is understood in the United States. It is likely that the death toll from this conflict is already greater than 118,908, an astonishing 5.4% of Gaza’s population. Our government must act immediately to prevent an even worse catastrophe than what has already befallen the people of Gaza and Israel. A ceasefire must be imposed on the warring parties by withholding military support for Israel and supporting an international arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian armed groups. We believe our government is obligated to do this, both under American law and International Humanitarian Law. We also believe it is the right thing to do.
With only marginal exceptions, everyone in Gaza is sick, injured, or both. This includes every national aid worker, every international volunteer, and probably every Israeli hostage: every man, woman, and child. While working in Gaza we saw widespread malnutrition in our patients and our Palestinian healthcare colleagues. Every one of us lost weight rapidly in Gaza despite having privileged access to food and having taken our own supplementary nutrient-dense food with us. We have photographic evidence of life-threatening malnutrition in our patients, especially children, that we are eager to share with you. Virtually every child under the age of five whom we encountered, both inside and outside of the hospital, had both a cough and watery diarrhea. We found cases of jaundice (indicating hepatitis A infection under such conditions) in nearly every room of the hospitals in which we served, and in many of our healthcare colleagues in Gaza. An astonishingly high percentage of our surgical incisions became infected from the combination of malnutrition, impossible operating conditions, lack of basic sanitation supplies such as soap, and lack of surgical supplies and medications, including antibiotics. Malnutrition led to widespread spontaneous abortions, underweight newborns, and an inability of new mothers to breastfeed. This left their newborns at high risk of death given the lack of access to potable water anywhere in Gaza. Many of those infants died. In Gaza we watched malnourished mothers feed their underweight newborns infant formula made with poisonous water. We can never forget that the world abandoned these innocent women and babies. We urge you to realize that epidemics are raging in Gaza. Israel’s continued, repeated displacement of the malnourished and sick population of Gaza, half of whom are children, to areas without running water or even toilets available is absolutely shocking. It was and remains guaranteed to result in widespread death from viral and bacterial diarrheal diseases and pneumonias, particularly in children under the age of five. Indeed, even the dreaded polio virus has reemerged in Gaza due to a combination of systematic destruction of the sanitation infrastructure, widespread malnutrition weakening immune systems, and young children having missed routine vaccinations for nearly an entire year. We worry that unknown thousands have already died from the lethal combination of malnutrition and disease, and that tens of thousands more will die in the coming months, especially with the onset of the winter rains in Gaza. Most of them will be young children. Children are universally considered innocents in armed conflict. However, every single signatory to this letter saw children in Gaza who suffered violence that must have been deliberately directed at them. Specifically, every one of us who worked in an emergency, intensive care, or surgical setting treated pre-teen children who were shot in the head or chest on a regular or even a daily basis. It is impossible that such widespread shooting of young children throughout Gaza, sustained over the course of an entire year is accidental or unknown to the highest Israeli civilian and military authorities.
