Hey Key, do you have a favourite ship of all time or is it really hard to chose from certain couples? As I see you post about a lot of wonderful couples :)
Hi lovely Anon! :)
I got this yesterday morning and I’ve been thinking about it ever since because of course my brain went directly to WinTeam.
I mean, they’re definitely the ship I’ve written most about. 38% of the fics on my current AO3 account are about WinTeam. :’)
Buuuut there were a lot of, like, formative ships that I didn’t write much or anything about. And they’re ships I always go back to whenever I’m between fandoms or just in the mood for something familiar and loved.
Like RayK/Fraser from due South! They were a massive part of my teen years in fandom. If you haven’t seen it, please give it a watch! It’s all remastered and up for free on YouTube! They still mean the world to me, and some of my favorite fics of all time are about them.
And then there’s merthur, whose meteoric and enduring impact on fandom should be studied by science. I read Awake by Cori Lannam and cry at least once a year.
There’s klance, who are loud and annoy each other and were never going to be canon and VLD was always going to be a catastrophe (who doesn’t keep a story bible to keep track of their own show), but the components for an incredible dynamic were there and fans did what fans do best and made gorgeous, heart wrenching fanworks that surpassed anything in canon for me.
I also love Stony, but I want to clarify that, like, most of my love doesn’t come from the extremely bro-y Marvel movies. I was intrigued by Chris Evans and RDJ’s portrayal of Steve and Tony back when I first saw Avengers, so I came home, opened Tumblr, and looked for the movie fandom that surely already existed. What I found more of, unsurprisingly, was comic fandom, and the more I found out about Steve and Tony in the comics, the more I was underwhelmed by the movies. So basically, the main reason I’m not into Stucky is because Stony fans presented this canon head explosion from the comics first:
There’s also drarry and wolfstar, and I love them the same way I love klance: the source material is disappointing, but the components for greatness were there, and fandom elevated them.
Okay so! Those were all fanon ships, and I always knew none of them were ever going to become canon (though Merlin’s, uh, debatable, maybe discussable—“the man he loves is dying so he’s holding him” REALLY), so I kind of think of them in a separate but equal category to the canon ships.
WHICH ARE:
Viktuuri is one of those ships that just feels like shelter for me. Just, Yuri on Ice was made with such devotion. Not just love, but passion. There’s no antagonist, just Yuuri’s own anxiety and Viktor painstakingly learning to understand and speak a mutual language so he can coax art and beauty and sincerity from Yuuri’s exhausted and heartbroken soul. I’ll always love them extra special.
These two trainwrecks.
KongArt! The whole arc of Kongphob and Arthit’s relationship in SOTUS is just so satisfying and beautiful to me, I just rewatched it with friends in January and I’m already rewatching it again with a different friend now. :’)
WENZHOU. I’m also rewatching Word of Honor and just having a marvelous time re-experiencing just how unhinged they are for each other. “YOUR SON WAS KIDNAPPED WHILE YOU WERE ROLLING AROUND IN THE DAISIES” “ah” “thanks for killing the moment”
And honestly there are more ships I love, but that wasn’t your question!
Of all time.
Hmm.
I think it really is them.
They’re everything I love in a ship: push and pull, vulnerability, sass, unhinged desperation for each other, and two characters I love equally.
WinTeam just has me by the soul, man.

Robert: Hey, Wanda, a friend of ours is in trouble. I can’t say who. I need the plans of a certain helicarrier to appear on my ipad. How would you like your losses cleared and, say… six free Oscar bets? Oh, I knew you’d say that, honey. I know you’d do it for nothing. Take it as a gift.
Anne-Marie: Is that –?
Robert: She loves games of chance. Apparently, this’ll only happen “if my cause is just.” Ah, perfect! Thanks!
Wolverine vol. 5 #5; writer: Paul Cornell; penciler: Mirco Pierfederici; inkers: Karl Kesel with Zach Fischer; colorist: Andres Mossa; letterer: VC’s Cory Petit
I swore off Oscar betting after The Great Penélope Cruz Debacle of 2022, but I do like to speculate on who Wanda would bet on. Does she think Austin Butler will beat Brendan Fraser? How much stock does she put in the anonymous ballots that all say Penélope Cruz? Impossible to say because we have literally no supporting evidence either way.
I mean, it is a characterization question: Does she look at the Oscar Math™ and take the safe bet, does she take a risk, does she go for emotion and pick what she wants to win? It’s just one that doesn’t have an easy answer.

Ilhan Omar Successfully Defends House Seat Amid Primary Challenges to Progressive ‘Squad’

Ilhan Omar Successfully Defends House Seat Amid Primary Challenges to Progressive ‘Squad’
MINNEAPOLIS — Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, one of the progressive House members known as the “Squad” and a sharp critic of how Israel has conducted the war in Gaza, has won her primary race in Minnesota.
Omar successfully defended her Minneapolis-area 5th District seat against a repeat challenge from former Minneapolis City Council member Don Samuels, a more centrist liberal whom she only narrowly defeated in the 2022 primary.
Omar avoided the fate of two fellow Squad members. Rep. Cori Bush lost the Democratic nomination in her Missouri district last week, and Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York lost his primary in June. Both faced well-funded challengers and millions of dollars in spending by the United Democracy Project, a super political action committee affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which appeared to sit out the Minnesota race.
Samuels had criticized Omar’s condemnation of the Israeli government’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war. While Omar has also criticized Hamas for attacking Israel and taking hostages, Samuels said she’s one-sided and divisive. He also stressed public safety issues in Minneapolis, where a former police officer murdered George Floyd in 2020.
Conservative populist and former NBA player Royce White defeated Navy veteran Joe Fraser in Minnesota’s primary election for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in November.
Former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab also won a contested GOP primary for Minnesota’s 2nd District seat held by Democratic Rep. Angie Craig.
Teirab has the support of former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
His opponent, defense attorney Tayler Rahm, won the endorsement at the district convention with support from grassroots conservatives.
While Rahm announced in July that he was suspending his campaign and would instead serve as a senior adviser for Trump’s Minnesota campaign, he remained on the ballot.
Teirab will face Craig in what’s expected to be Minnesota’s most competitive House race in November.
Craig issued a statement following Teirab’s win calling him “a guy who recently moved to the district because he saw a political opportunity.”
“He’s a guy who has spent months doing anything to win the support of Washington Republicans,” Craig said. “And he’s a guy who has made it his life’s mission to take away reproductive freedoms from families and give those decisions to politicians.”
Omar—a Somali American and Muslim—came under fire from the Jamaican-born Samuels and others in her first term for comments that were widely criticized for invoking antisemitic tropes and suggesting Jewish Americans have divided loyalties. This time, Samuels has criticized her condemnation of the Israeli government’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.
While Omar has also criticized Hamas for attacking Israel and taking hostages, Samuels says she’s one-sided and divisive. He’s also been stressing the public safety issues he focused on in 2022. The big issue at the time was policing in Minneapolis, where a former police officer murdered George Floyd in 2020.
Omar will face Republican Dalia Al-Aqidi, an Iraqi American journalist and self-described secular Muslim who calls Omar pro-Hamas and a terrorist sympathizer.
In the U.S. Senate race, White—an ally of imprisoned former Trump aide Steve Bannon and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones—shocked many political observers when he defeated Fraser at the party convention for the GOP endorsement.
White’s social media comments have been denounced as misogynistic, homophobic, antisemitic and profane. His legal and financial problems include unpaid child support and questionable campaign spending, including $1,200 spent at a Florida strip club after he lost his primary challenge to Omar in 2022. He argues that, as a Black man, he can broaden the party’s base by appealing to voters of color in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and others disillusioned with establishment politics.
Fraser has said White’s confrontational style and message won’t attract the moderates and independents needed for a competitive challenge against Klobuchar, who’s seeking a fourth term. He said he offers a more mainstream approach, stressing fiscal conservativism, a strong defense, world leadership and small government. Fraser has also highlighted his 26 years in the Navy, where he was an intelligence officer and served a combat tour in Iraq.
Neither has anywhere near the resources that Klobuchar has. White last reported raising $133,000, while Fraser has taken in $68,000. Klobuchar, meanwhile, has collected about $19 million this cycle and has more than $6 million available to spend on the general election campaign. She faced only nominal primary opposition.
Another clash between establishment and grassroots Republicans played out in western Minnesota’s 7th District. Trump-backed GOP Rep. Michelle Fischbach, considered one of the most conservative members of Congress, defeated small businessman Steve Boyd. Boyd ran to her right on a religious platform and blocked her from getting endorsement at the district convention. Boyd has reported spending $170,000, while Fischbach has spent over $1 million.

thecircusfreaks replied to your post: "Hey, you're the waiter from yesterday, right? The...
“I knew I didn’t forget your face. I’m on a vacation here and having someone indirectly wish me a happy birthday like that, it meant a lot. So, can I offer you a cup of coffee once you’re off?” Cory asked curiously, leaning a bit forward, looking curiously at the friendly soul that was still in the middle of working now.
Fraser stood up properly to look at the man with a clear surprise on his face. Being as quiet as he was, it was rare for a customer to approach him let alone invite him out after his shift. And as he faced Cory, his badge showing that he couldn't speak became apparent and hopefully noticed. His hand shaken in a way that said "You don't have to" but if he had to write it down then so be it.

Productive things I did today:
edited what I wrote so far of the first chapter of my thesis, and made sure the different parts connected well with one another
started to reread some sources I need to finish writing said chapter
annotated a plan of what I have to write in the final part of the chapter because there is so much and I will forget something otherwise
Self care things I did today:
read first thing in the morning
journaled in the morning
avoided coffee
went out for lunch with my mom
got my hair cut (and my gods I love it. I have never had anything this short but I feel super confident about it. I shaved the sides and left the hair longer in the front, a little like Brendan Fraser in The Mummy -best comparaison I could think of, and also since that movie is bisexual culture I guess it makes sense)
met a friend in the late afternoon
📖: Zeus Grants Stupid Wishes by Cory O'Brien (I read this book for the first time a couple of years ago and I totally forgot how funny and stupid it is)

More Senate Shenanigans
So the Senate is sitting this week and at 2.30pm on Tuesday we’ve already had our fair share of drama.
First off, we had the swearing in of three new Senators, elected by recount. Hollie Hughes, replacement for Fiona Nash, may well be ineligible because of a job she took following her non-election in July last year and so was not sworn in. However, Senator Fraser Anning, replacement for One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts caused a stir. Instead of being led in by (as is traditional) his party leader, Pauline Hanson, he was instead brought in by Cory Bernardi (Australian Conservatives) and David Leyonhjelm (LDP). Hanson reports that Anning left the party to sit as an Independent after storming out of a party meeting, however Anning reported (in a press release which read ‘One Nation Senator for Queensland’ in the letterhead) that the first he knew of being an Independent was when Pauline made her statement earlier in the day. Anning also says that he asked the two other PHON Senators to accompany him for his swearing in, but at the last minute they were unable to (presumably at Hanson’s instruction).
The Senate also elected a new President, Scott Ryan, following Parry’s ineligibility and subsequent resignation. This means that Ryan has resigned from the Ministry in his role as Special Minister of State, because while not unprecedented, it is highly unusual for the President (or Speaker) to also be a Minister. Ryan had an eventful first Question Time, all Senators clearly compensating for the fact that without the House sitting, they were required to make twice as many interjections and points of order. Although there was no cardboard Kevin Rudd, as in Anna Burke’s first day as Deputy Speaker, things hardly went much better. Yesterday, Cory Bernardi also made the assertion that there was someone sitting in the Senate who knew that they were a dual-citizen and therefore ineligible, but had chosen not to say anything. Tasmania is now down two Senators, as Jacqui Lambie resigned this morning, following discovery that she was a dual-citizen as a result of her Scottish father. Lambie plans to recontest the Senate at the next election, and so does not intend to stand for the upcoming Tasmanian state election. However, she has said that if Labor MP Justine Keay is also found ineligible under s44, she would consider contesting the seat of Braddon in a by-election.
In other Lower House news, John Alexander has resigned over dual-citizenship claims, sparking a by-election in the seat of Bennelong. Labor has announced that controversial former-NSW Premier Kristina Keneally has been pre-selected to contest the seat. NXT MP Rebekha Sharkie is also undergoing scrutiny on citizenship grounds, because although her paperwork was completed in April last year, the letter she received on 4th July 2016 confirmed that her British citizenship had been renounced on 29th June - after the close of nominations and opening of pre-poll voting, but before the 2nd July election. This puts her in a similar boat to two Labor MPs, but there has been no High Court referral.

This Just In: 71 members of the House of Delegates and 13 members of the Maryland Senate have signed a letter condemning Rep. Andy Harris and calling on him to resign for the part he played in “undermining a free and fair election and stoking violence.”
--
Representative Harris,
The foundational principle of our nation is democracy. The right of Americans to select their leaders is and should be inviolate. It is a right that all of us who serve in public office are sworn to uphold and protect in our oaths of office.
That oath is a sacred commitment to all Marylanders, and all Americans. It is an oath that requires us to support the democratic process in both words and actions. It is an oath that requires that we always put loyalty to our Constitution and our country above loyalty to any political party, candidate, or elected official.
Representative Harris, we believe that you have violated that oath. You have for months joined in cynical, politically motivated attempts to undermine the legitimate, free, and fair election that selected Joe Biden as the next President of the United States. You have joined with those who have trafficked in lies and conspiracy theories, who have incited division and hate, in the furtherance of a political agenda.
Our nation watched in horror on January 6th as a seditious mob, riled up and fueled by Donald Trump and his loyalists, assaulted the very seat of American democracy. As they tore into the marble halls that have been worn by the steps of our greatest leaders, the walls that have borne witness to our most profound national debates. As one of America’s most sacred spaces was desecrated, and as a member of the United States Capitol Police who was defending it was murdered.
These insurrectionists were motivated by the very rhetoric and disinformation that you and far too many of your colleagues have been trafficking in for months. Any student of the history of the United States knows that words have the power to move nations and citizens. Words like, “We the people.” Words also like, “Stand back, and stand by.”
Rather than recognizing that your words and behavior in office have damaged our democracy, have threatened our Constitution, and have undermined the nation you are sworn to, your response to the attack on our Capitol was to continue to use the same words and behavior. To vote with too many of your colleagues to undermine a free and fair election. To give comfort to the enemies of democracy within our borders and around the world.
We, the undersigned members of the Maryland General Assembly, believe that you have disgraced yourself, your state, and your country. We have heard from constituents who would like us to pass a resolution of censure against you. As our censure process is reserved for members of our body, we are not able to do so. But we add our voices to the chorus of your constituents who have called for you to resign.
You have done enough harm to our country and our state, Representative. It is time for you to go, and for a person who will serve Marylanders with honor to take your place.
Sincerely,

12. Best cliff-hanger?
13. Saddest death scene?
19. Name an episode from a show that you wish didn’t happen?
From this post
12. Best Cliffhanger. I’m REALLY going to age myself here, but I remember Who Shot Mr. Burns from The Simpsons in real-time. I was in middle school. It was a nailbiter and EVERYONE had opinions, we talked about it constantly that summer. I was on team Smithers Shot Him.
13. Saddest Death Scene - This is a tie. In Buffy when Joyce Summers dies, and Anya, who is new to the mortal realm, doesn’t understand why she’s drinking fruit punch and Joyce can’t drink fruit punch anymore. Then in Scrubs, when Brendan Fraser’s character dies and you realize that Dr. Cox has been hallucinating him in his grief.
19. An episode I wish didn’t happen - Cory and Topanga getting married in Boy Meets World. I wish they’d ended the series with their engagement. Nineteen year olds have no business getting married, and especially not that dysfunctional couple.
