The Psychology of the White Shirt
I talked about what I do for living again today. I realized it's a conversation that tends to make me uncomfortable.
I'm wearing a white shirt. You know, a collared button up that hasn't been ironed because it's one of those things I always forget to mention. Collar peeking from underneath my coat and hopefully hidden by the fact that people rarely stand close enough to really notice.
I isolate myself just enough to be seen but not known.
So yes, I had to explain again what I do. I'm a small business owner, founder of my own, vastly insignificant company that employs under fifty people. I'm an employer and an ambitious idiot and I don't like this subject. I got frustrated during the conversation and complained about my shirt.
I want to be lazy for once. Not aim to look polished and constantly fail because I forgot to get my shirts ironed.
But I must try, because a person perceived as a woman that looks good is rarely taken seriously, but a person perceived as a woman who doesn't care, who doesn't play the part, doesn't play into expectations, is taken seriously even less. It's a game you cannot win, now or ever. Play into the idea of the unbeatable corporate queen or die. Fail, be undermined. Play into the idea of the unbeatable corporate queen and die anyway. It's a slower death. You won't fail, but you'll be constantly questioned.
I wear my shirts as a shield, even when they're unironed. I let them peek above the collar of my coat and be noticed in the window that separates me from the rest of the office.
I look back to the me three years ago that sat in their shoebox apartment, and wonder how that person ended up sitting long hours in this place. I don't even care about showing up to the damn office because what cannot be done remotely these days but if everyone else shows up at least three days a week, I will on all five.
I'm now a student again. I study because I know I will burn out eventually in this world, and I don't want to see that day, and because, quite frankly, I hate corporate. Leave the responsibility of paying your salary to others.
I wear to school what I wear to work.
I chose to study an industry that thrives on uniforms.
Go figure.

Nothing evokes my frustration and anger as much as witnessing some clear negative energy around and to add that is when they play innocent. I wonder how could people be so steeped in their self-ignorance and arrogance at the same time, that they simply fail to see what miserable lives they're living by engaging in such negativity, specifically here speaking about envy and especially when they direct that energy to the ones who actually love them...

seriously cool - a blog for motivation & accountability 💌
I’ve been on this journey for as long as I can remember, there’s nothing that I’ve ever loved more than taking care of myself. I decided to take my blog seriously so I can become motivated and keep everything in one place! It also might help someone too <3
I plan on writing brain dumps, motivational posts, photo dumps from Pinterest, law of assumption posts, affirmations, routines and so much more! My areas that I focus on are education, languages, ballet, tennis, the corporate world, finance, law student life and fitness! 🪩🫶🏻
I’m very excited to document this and perhaps others will join too 🧚🏼‍♀️!

Wall Street (1987). An impatient young stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless, greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing.
Yeah, I don't know. I've been enjoying 80s era Michael Douglas quite a lot, so was kind of looking forward to finally watching this, but it just didn't do much for me. I didn't find Charlie Sheen's character particularly compelling or interesting throughout the story, and I think he needed to be at least grounding to take us from a-to-b. It's just a macho money movie, which isn't really my vibe. 4/10.

Empowering Black Women in the Corporate World: Confronting Microaggressions and Establishing Boundaries
Tumblr media
The corporate world is often regarded as a challenging environment, and for Black women like myself, this reality can be amplified by the presence of microaggressions and employers who may not fully grasp the importance of respecting boundaries. Despite these obstacles, Black women continue to rise, utilizing their resilience and determination to excel in their careers. In this first blog post, we explore the experiences of Black women navigating the corporate landscape and offer insights on how to confront microaggressions and establish healthy boundaries.
Microaggressions: Navigating Unseen Obstacles
Microaggressions are subtle forms of discrimination that can manifest in everyday interactions, often leaving the recipient feeling marginalized and invalidated. In the corporate world, Black women may encounter various forms of microaggressions, such as dismissive remarks, underestimation of their abilities, or being subjected to unfair stereotypes. These experiences can be demoralizing, but it is important to remember that they are a reflection of others' biases rather than a reflection of one's worth or capabilities.
Confronting Microaggressions:
1. Self-Awareness: Developing a keen understanding of oneself and recognizing the impact of microaggressions is crucial. This awareness allows Black women to differentiate between genuine criticism and subtle acts of discrimination, empowering them to respond effectively.
2. Choose Your Battles: While it is essential to address microaggressions, it is equally important to determine when and how to respond. Picking battles wisely ensures that energy is directed towards productive conversations that promote change, rather than engaging in every instance.
3. Educate and Advocate: Black women can play a significant role in fostering an inclusive workplace by educating others about the impact of microaggressions. By sharing personal experiences and providing resources on cultural sensitivity, it is possible to increase awareness and promote change within the organization.
Establishing Boundaries:
1. Clearly Communicate Expectations: Establishing clear boundaries begins with open and honest communication. Clearly articulate your expectations regarding respectful treatment and address any concerns promptly. This sets the tone for respectful interactions and ensures that others understand your limits.
2. Seek Support: Build a network of allies and mentors who can offer guidance and support. Share experiences with trusted colleagues or employee resource groups to gain insight and learn strategies for navigating challenging situations.
3. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care to protect your well-being. Engage in activities that replenish your energy, such as exercise, mindfulness, or pursuing hobbies. Taking care of your physical and mental health enables you to navigate the corporate world more effectively and build resilience.
Black women in the corporate world often face the dual challenge of dealing with microaggressions and employers who may not fully comprehend the significance of respecting boundaries. However, by confronting microaggressions with self-awareness, education, and advocacy, and by establishing clear boundaries through effective communication and seeking support, Black women can navigate these obstacles and thrive in their careers. Empowering oneself and fostering inclusive environments is a collective effort, and together, we can create a corporate world that values diversity and provides equal opportunities for all.

I'm doing CPE (continuing professional education) for work. It's all through Zoom so they use poll questions throughout the presentation for us to prove that we are paying attention.
...
I highly doubt that any of these serious professionals are tumblrites, but I am ready.
