Collage work for disrupt which I hope to turn into risograph prints when I get the chance- I really like the cow image, the idea of a work system that you don’t have a say in, but you have a role in

Nothing evokes my frustration and anger as much as witnessing some clear negative energy around and to add that is when they play innocent. I wonder how could people be so steeped in their self-ignorance and arrogance at the same time, that they simply fail to see what miserable lives they're living by engaging in such negativity, specifically here speaking about envy and especially when they direct that energy to the ones who actually love them...

seriously cool - a blog for motivation & accountability 💌
I’ve been on this journey for as long as I can remember, there’s nothing that I’ve ever loved more than taking care of myself. I decided to take my blog seriously so I can become motivated and keep everything in one place! It also might help someone too <3
I plan on writing brain dumps, motivational posts, photo dumps from Pinterest, law of assumption posts, affirmations, routines and so much more! My areas that I focus on are education, languages, ballet, tennis, the corporate world, finance, law student life and fitness! 🪩🫶🏻
I’m very excited to document this and perhaps others will join too 🧚🏼‍♀️!

Wall Street (1987). An impatient young stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless, greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing.
Yeah, I don't know. I've been enjoying 80s era Michael Douglas quite a lot, so was kind of looking forward to finally watching this, but it just didn't do much for me. I didn't find Charlie Sheen's character particularly compelling or interesting throughout the story, and I think he needed to be at least grounding to take us from a-to-b. It's just a macho money movie, which isn't really my vibe. 4/10.

Empowering Black Women in the Corporate World: Confronting Microaggressions and Establishing Boundaries
Tumblr media
The corporate world is often regarded as a challenging environment, and for Black women like myself, this reality can be amplified by the presence of microaggressions and employers who may not fully grasp the importance of respecting boundaries. Despite these obstacles, Black women continue to rise, utilizing their resilience and determination to excel in their careers. In this first blog post, we explore the experiences of Black women navigating the corporate landscape and offer insights on how to confront microaggressions and establish healthy boundaries.
Microaggressions: Navigating Unseen Obstacles
Microaggressions are subtle forms of discrimination that can manifest in everyday interactions, often leaving the recipient feeling marginalized and invalidated. In the corporate world, Black women may encounter various forms of microaggressions, such as dismissive remarks, underestimation of their abilities, or being subjected to unfair stereotypes. These experiences can be demoralizing, but it is important to remember that they are a reflection of others' biases rather than a reflection of one's worth or capabilities.
Confronting Microaggressions:
1. Self-Awareness: Developing a keen understanding of oneself and recognizing the impact of microaggressions is crucial. This awareness allows Black women to differentiate between genuine criticism and subtle acts of discrimination, empowering them to respond effectively.
2. Choose Your Battles: While it is essential to address microaggressions, it is equally important to determine when and how to respond. Picking battles wisely ensures that energy is directed towards productive conversations that promote change, rather than engaging in every instance.
3. Educate and Advocate: Black women can play a significant role in fostering an inclusive workplace by educating others about the impact of microaggressions. By sharing personal experiences and providing resources on cultural sensitivity, it is possible to increase awareness and promote change within the organization.
Establishing Boundaries:
1. Clearly Communicate Expectations: Establishing clear boundaries begins with open and honest communication. Clearly articulate your expectations regarding respectful treatment and address any concerns promptly. This sets the tone for respectful interactions and ensures that others understand your limits.
2. Seek Support: Build a network of allies and mentors who can offer guidance and support. Share experiences with trusted colleagues or employee resource groups to gain insight and learn strategies for navigating challenging situations.
3. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care to protect your well-being. Engage in activities that replenish your energy, such as exercise, mindfulness, or pursuing hobbies. Taking care of your physical and mental health enables you to navigate the corporate world more effectively and build resilience.
Black women in the corporate world often face the dual challenge of dealing with microaggressions and employers who may not fully comprehend the significance of respecting boundaries. However, by confronting microaggressions with self-awareness, education, and advocacy, and by establishing clear boundaries through effective communication and seeking support, Black women can navigate these obstacles and thrive in their careers. Empowering oneself and fostering inclusive environments is a collective effort, and together, we can create a corporate world that values diversity and provides equal opportunities for all.

I'm doing CPE (continuing professional education) for work. It's all through Zoom so they use poll questions throughout the presentation for us to prove that we are paying attention.
...
I highly doubt that any of these serious professionals are tumblrites, but I am ready.

Just woke up.
The word dystopian usually inspires imagery of a disgusting, torn up world of filth, poverty, anguish, and despair.
I just had a dream of a sleek and stylish future that looked utopian, but was in fact the most dystopian I had ever seen. Everything had a subscription, even lamps! You could be arrested on the way to work and not even be approached by a uniformed person, and that would immediately show up on your bio scan once you walked in the front doors. The pressure to perform as astronomical. Everything was so corporate and consultants and smile smile smile. It was absolutely disgusting.
Don’t let that happen. I’m terrified I’ll have prophetic dreams. Seers and oracles must have lived lives of absolute misery.

On Tuesday the 28th I brought my collage into the publication studio to be printed by the risograph machine. I also printed out some of my paintings and added layers for riso to develop them, and I made two new collages for print.
Unfortunately due to time constraints only one could be printed- I LOVE the way collage looks when run through the machine and the pink layer highlights the dog nicely. I plan to push this print further through highlighting the hands with the pink layer to improve the overall composition as suggested by Fiona and get the rest of my prints done.
I had to go back down to Kerry for the remainder of the week for family reasons but I’m definitely keeping printmaking in mind for when I get to go to the studio again, and I’m very excited to be doing it as an elective next semester :D Here are the finished riso prints on different coloured paper ^^

I've been on both sides of this.
It's good to remember that hiring based on a "good and honest first impression" is not actually what anyone here wants. Because if your interviewer has unconscious biases (as we all do), the person who gives a "good and honest first impression" is very likely to be the person who is most like them culturally. A lot of the boring, soulless, irritating questions you get asked are carefully crafted by corporate to try to not be biased in any way, lest they risk a lawsuit.
The other thing to know is what I'm actually looking for in an interview is something, anything that I can take back to my boss to tell them why I should hire you in particular.
What usually happens is I've interviewed like 4-6 different people, all of whom were fine. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. And I have to pick one of these people as a recommendation to my boss. And I can't tell my boss "well this person seemed nice." Everyone was nice.
I can tell my boss "This person seemed very excited about the role and did a lot of research about it beforehand."
And my boss is also just some person and they're going to have to take whatever I said and take it to their boss who wants a justification for the hire.
The corporate world is a hellscape, but most of the people inside it are just people trying to make it through the day.
remember that interviews are not about giving a good and honest first impression that they'll carefully consider. interviews are about saying the special words and phrases they're looking for that give you points and when they tally those up whoever earned the most job points wins

Please send happy thoughts
i didn't get the job I wanted because I missed adding in a recommendation in my written assessment. I reread the test instructions 100 times and all it said was provide options, so that's what I did. Was my gut telling me to add a recommendation? Yes! Did I? No, cause I had someone else read the instructions as well and they agreed.....the instructions said no recommendation.
Long story short i feel like an idiot cause I know better. Being told that was the deciding factor makes me so mad at myself.
