MORE JEAN POSTS aside from being controlled by, you know, the mafia, he is absolutely under control from being dependent on the Moriyamas to interact with the world! He does not know how much things cost! Like! Does he know he technically needs to file taxes on his scholarship?
#the brief moments where Jean described how capitalism and economics is entirely theoretical to him because he's never had his own money#or responsibility for his own survival. like. is he freeloading off of Cat and Laila. does he have a bank account.#jean moreau#tgr#the golden raven#aftg#tgr spoilers#the golden raven spoilers#like YEAH not having to worry about money sounds nice until you realize that lack of knowledge about how to navigate society#is an isolation technique!!#like i'm sure the moriyamas are not racing to rectify the fact that their imported golden goose depends on them#for navigating corporate america! both linguistically and via knowledge of how systems are supposed to work!#wait. does neil know about taxes. did he ever learn anything except how to not pay them.

Oh the fucking irony, a man who gets tax breaks and federal contracts whining about others doing the same. Mind the stocks of his companies jumped in price when DOGE was announced, he directly benefits from being in governmen. Boycott any and all Elon owned products and services, don't give him a single cent while he's stealing your tax dollars.

I hate when people say corporations and people can just write off ridiculous amounts of charity and whatever they want on their taxes. It doesn't work like that. There are limitations on how much you can deduct. Even for corporations there are limits on how much they can deduct. It gets annoying tbh.

How Taxation Works
Taxes are a significant part of the financial framework, and they're not always easy to understand. In fact, many people don't fully grasp how taxes work.
So, let's cover the basics of taxation so you can see how it fits into the bigger picture. I'll go into just what you need to know about taxes so that you can maximize your benefits.
WHO MUST PAY TAXES?
Taxation is based on earnings. So, anyone that is making money must pay taxes. This includes:
Individuals that are employees and earn a paycheck.
Individuals that earn an income through sources other than employment like independent contracting, freelancing, self-employed, and digital nomads work online while traveling the world. These individuals receive 1099 from their clients.
Otherwise, you’re likely the owner of a registered business. Your Business earns revenue and must file a tax return to pay its taxes.
HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU PAY?
How much in taxes a business pays largely depends on the type of taxes. There are five major kinds of business taxes:
GROSS RECEIPTS refers to sales. The goal is to reduce sales by taking tax deductions, thereby lowering taxes due.
EMPLOYMENT WITHHOLDING TAX is deducted from employees' wages when payroll is processed. As an employer, you are required to match some of those taxes and pay the employer withholding taxes portion.
CORPORATE FRANCHISE TAXES, also known as privilege tax, is a tax paid by certain companies that wish to conduct business in specific states.
EXCISE TAX is taxation on specific goods and services as you purchase them, like fuel or tobacco or alcohol for example.
VALUE ADDED TAX VAT is a consumption tax on goods and services, or when you the seller add value to those products and services.
HOW TO LOWER YOUR TAXES
The process is the same for both personal and business. However, the type of deductions and other factors vary. For example,
INCOME TAX (personal wages) - the goal is to reduce income earned by taking deductions, credits, and allowances to lower the gross income down to a Net Income amount. This lower amount (net income) is what is used to determine your tax liability based on your household. Theoretically, a single person with a $5000 net income should pay more taxes than a family of four with the same net income.
GROSS RECEIPTS TAXES (sales revenue) – is generally what is referred to for business. The goal is to reduce sales revenue by taking business deductions to lower the gross sales down to a Net Profit or Loss amount.
Businesses are allowed to deduct expenses, fancy “allowances” like depreciation on assets, or make extraordinary purchases for example. This may seem suspect to common folk, but the fact is, this is how the wealthy can move the billions they earn into lower tax brackets.
Make “NOBOSS Moves”
Now that you know how taxation works, you can take advantage of tax deductions and allowances too. But bear in mind that you're not operating on the same financial level as the wealthy. You must make every dollar count.
That being said, spending money just to take a deduction is NOT smart. There is even a commercial of a group of entrepreneurs fighting over the restaurant check because they can take a business deduction. This is highly misleading, and I'll give you two reasons why:
You’re spending money now so you can get it back later. What’s the benefit of that? This concept does nothing more than disrupt your cash flow.
Not all deductions are 100% deductible, specifically Food & Drink (Meals Exp) is only 50% deductible!
You want to make some “NOBOSS moves” by investing your money into income-generating opportunities. Depending on the type of “NOBOSS moves” you make you might be able to reduce your net income, reduce your taxes, and make money too!
KEEPING GOOD RECORDS
When you start your new business, you should also set up your bookkeeping system. One of the biggest mistakes a new business can make is waiting to set up its bookkeeping system. This is a dangerous financial mistake that happens far too often.
Keeping good records is the foundation of financial management. Documenting your business activity from the first expense is critical to building your business and minimizing taxes.
Start with a bookkeeping system that is simple and easy to update on a regular basis. No law says you must have a bookkeeper, accountant, or CPA when you start your business, so you have a few options to consider who will maintain your records properly:
Do your own bookkeeping.
Hire a bookkeeper.
Outsource to a bookkeeping service like AccountSOFT. Find out more about their implementation, bookkeeping, and training services for new business owners.
Considering you are required to pay taxes, you will ultimately make a decision by year-end so that your Tax Preparer or CPA can review your records, lower your taxes, and file business tax returns.
This information is part of the Should You Incorporate series. For more information about Legal Biz Structures, How Taxation Works, How to Pay Yourself, Starting a Business, or NOBOSS tools and resources for entrepreneurs, please visit our website at www.noboss.business

❛ someone wants to play. but let me tell ya, two can play that game. ❜
♕ quotes from stories I never finished . accepting
It was a very nice office space - the Millennium Tower left nothing to be desired in terms of location, landscape views or even the luxurious décor that was visible even in the place's common areas. Eirene could see why it had so fundamentally changed Kamurocho after it was built - it was impossible to ignore that landmark, for better or worse; for someone fond of mementos of power and reminders of one's reach, she wouldn't have opposed buying some floors there for Quinn.
Unfortunately, there were none available - but it didn't mean that her personal assistant wasn't instructed to keep a watchful eye over the relevant adverts and contacts through rental agencies.
But real estate acquisitions for Quinn Enterprises was not on her agenda for the morning; a meeting with Majima Goro, instead, was supposed to fill the better part of the next hours. The Sixth Chairman of the Tojo had asked her to speak to his trusted advisor and the individual behind the ambitious plans of Kamurocho Hills to go over mostly financial information - reviewing valuations of the overall enterprise, revisiting the forecasts for the planned operation, combing through all the more relevant agreements associated to the project and other bureaucratic details.
In short, the chairman's idea was to have detailed and accurate data if the worst came to pass and the Tojo was forced into surrendering ownership of the place. Daigo's idea was not one Eirene could dispute - the signs of good leadership were also in preparing for failure and knowing how deep were the holes one could possibly fall into. But the fact was that Majima did not seem to share his boss' mentality to consider all scenarios - given the man's constant pacing in the room, it was obvious that giving up his pet project was not a solution.
"Someone wants to play. But let me tell ya, two can play that game," Majima said at length, stopping the circles he was surely imprinting on the carpet to gaze outside, standing by the window. Eirene smiled faintly at everything - even if his behavior was distracting her from the cold, focused analysis that she was attempting to perform over some old valuation reports, the businesswoman admired his fighting spirit. Majima wouldn't go down quietly - she could see why Daigo valued his counsel and experience so much.
In fact, he was just the type that her father used to favor when hiring new blood; he would have likely fitted nicely with the Irish mafia.
"I'm sure you are a formidable opponent, Majima-san. It would not be a very informed business decision to bet against you or your dedication," Eirene remarked in a pleasant tone, her bicolored eyes flickering towards the man by the window - but he turned around, pinning the Irishwoman under his impressive glare for a hard, long moment.
Eirene Campbell did not move in her seat - the Quinn CEO and founder was very much aware of the distrust that certain members of the Tojo had about her own business and even what she represented as a person; but with Dojima Daigo's word into play, they couldn't move to outright break his oath and the agreement with Quinn. But that didn't seem to be the case with Majima - his ties with Daigo were older, more personal.
But Eirene had no doubt it was a test of sorts for her, too.
"I have no desire in seeing your project going to the Ueno Seiwa - I'm sure Dojima-kaichou has informed you, Majima-san, but our agreement would not extend to anything that is out of the hands of the Tojo. It is in my best interest to see Kamurocho preserved under your control - our policies and goals are entirely aligned on this matter and Dojima-kaichou is aware of that."
Majima didn't say anything, but something in his expression changed - perhaps the words uttered by the blonde woman made sense, or maybe he was suddenly finding her an interesting distraction. At any rate, he approached the desk again and Eirene's polite smile widened even further, her hands expertly moving papers around into a pre-determined order and picking a list where she had flagged several accounts for review with red ink.
"Now, Majima-san - I require your input. from one company president to another," Eirene said, tapping over the piece of paper to secure his attention, "It seems to me that the valuations you have are outdated - the setbacks you faced while protecting Kamurocho Hills from Mutoh likely impacted the construction plans and the cashflow projections for the operational phase may need to be revisited," he glared at her then, but the Irishwoman held a hand up, signaling that there was more to come:
"However, the loss of equipment and other unexpected expenses you had at the time caused you a significant amount of net operating losses, which should turn into a benefit in the future. We need to make sure that we report this properly to the tax office, but all these losses would be deducted from your upcoming profits during operational phase - we would be looking at a substantial benefit once you go profitable, Majima-san."
The yakuza blinked, moving closer to her and staring at Eirene once more with the remarkable intensity of his one remaining eye.
"Lady," he said after a moment of silence, "Yer not makin' a lick of sense."
Eirene chuckled, linking hands over the desk and going back into her chair - her own pair of differently colored irises set on Majima, and she translated her own thoughts into more palatable vocabulary for the masses.
"Money, Majima-san. You may have bled in the past, but this will save you money in taxes in the future. We just need to report this correctly."
The man grinned then, a high-pitched whistle following while he clapped and moved away from the table, calling for his subordinate to bring over something to celebrate - there was money where they had been unaware of it; it deserved a drink (or barbecue). Turning around, his gloved hand pointed at Eirene, grin still very much in place and giving Majima a look of someone borderline maniacal.
"I like ya, lady," he declared, nodding vigorously, "Maybe Daigo's really onto somethin' with ya!"
#♔ answered . this is my move#zankokukami#v: the queen & king of the chess board (Yakuza)#I kept this to early Y4 to avoid spoilers#also writing Eirene sometimes#is just an excuse to use my accounting & tax knowledge#to produce something that sounds plausible XD#(although I did google Japanese corporate tax briefly for this)

Trumps Tax Act already did this. He gave the 1% a tax break while increasing everybody else's taxes (meaning u and me) incrementally over an 8 year period. A lot of people complained about taxes going up during Bidens administration, not realizing that it was Trump who signed the law that changed the system.
Multiple democrats have campaigned on leveling the playing field by holding rich people to the same taxation standards that you and I are held to, but we have a nonzero number of congressmen and supreme court judges who are payrolled by the 1% (look up the Koch PAC for context, it's not even the only one), and when your paycheck comes from the 1%, you cannot support bills about taxing them. When you go against your employers interest, you get fired (losing re-election, in this case).
The more socialist a candidate is (which Kamala and Biden are not even a little bit), the less likely they are to have super-rich supporters because the super-rich cannot sustain their income in a socialist democracy. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren support taxing the rich, and they are among the most socialist presidential candidates I have seen in my short lifetime. Taxing the rich is not a scheme to hurt the poor, it is integral to ending the wealth disparity. You and I are already being taxed more than the wealthiest 1%, the democrats are just trying to do is level the playing field.

#also lololol idk if u have ever met a millionarie but they All hide their wealth in businesses#businesses have way more tax loopholes than individuals so most rich people hide their wealth in corporate bank accounts#and then withdraw from them like personal bank accounts sans the personal bank account taxation#(this is also how deadbeat dads dodge child support payments bc the govt cant take ur money if you have none)#(if none of your paychecks or bank accounts have your name on them then the govt cant take money from you)#(the middle class and the super rich use this for different reasons but the end goal is avoiding paying what they fucking OWE)
