Spoilers for chapters one and two of the Shadow manga!

Okay, to start off, I don't know if the manga is meant to be mainline-canon. However, based on what we've seen of it so far, I'm reading between the lines a bit, and have come up with a theory of sorts.

So, part one is set entirely on the Ark, ending with Maria being shot. Part two is where things start connecting to Generations more, and get a bit interesting:

The way this is framed makes it seem as if Shadow went directly from the Ark to the White Space. Which could just mean that the events on the Ark were some sort of flashback due to the time-traveling stuff. My theory takes a different approach though.

See, based on the way Shadow's been acting, it doesn't seem like he was just having a flashback. He hasn't given any indication of that, and the way he reacts after he arrives in White Space stands out to me. His first thought is that he needs to return to the Ark, and his second is remembering Maria's death.

But the Ark hasn't been his home in a long time, and he's known that Maria's dead for years. Comparing that to his reaction at the end of chapter one of Dark Beginnings:

He immediately clocks that it wasn't real, and he doesn't make any comment about Maria's death.

Theory time. Now, I know this almost certainly isn't what happens, but I want to put it out there before the game drops. What if Shadow from the manga is "Classic" Shadow? Shadow who has never been to the planet, who hasn't even had an hour since Maria died, and who hasn't yet found any reason for his existence beyond saving Maria?

This line from the orb-guy stands out to me as well.

What do they mean by "the second one?" What if the first "red and black" one was also Shadow, but modern Shadow?

It might be a bit of a stretch, but I think it's an interesting idea at least. The concept of past Shadow meeting his present-day counterpart. "Modern" Shadow has already come to terms with Maria's death, and is prioritizing stopping the Black Arms/Time Eater/Mephiles/whoever is trying to destroy the world. "Classic" Shadow only cares about saving Maria; nothing else matters.

Apparently there might be a new Sonic manga printed in CoroCoro Comic?! There was a oneshot in the January 2024 issue and there's a chance that it could become a serialized manga if there's demand for it.

Dash & Spin Super Fast Sonic and some of the Sonic the Hedgehog (1992-1994) manga were serialized in Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic, so this is interesting.

Before this past weekend, the Japanese publisher of CoroCoro's #Shadow the Hedgehog manga asked fans not to share scans on social media, after images of the first issue began to surface online. The statement (machine translated into English) warned that "if copyright infringement continues, artists will not be able to draw new manga." Some fans on social media argued in favour of translated scans (English in particular), as there's no official localization of the manga outside Japan. A fan-conducted translation, they claim, may not financially impact the publisher. Meanwhile, the author pled followers on the site formerly known as Twitter to not "read through illegal channels," after a Sonic news fan outlet distributed, then later retracted, the entire original-language copy. The first issue of the Shadow manga was released on 12 Sep 2024 to promote #SonicXShadowGenerations in Japan. It can be purchased via various Japanese online e-book storefronts. Sonic fandom, I know we are super excited about the new CoroCoro Shadow manga due to what it entails, but for the sake of the artists, I recommend we don’t post scans of it. The best we can do is hope they listen to feedback and do an official translation for overseas.

Oh dude this Shadow manga business is getting ridiculous. Apparently Corocoro is debating altogether dropping it due to piracy. Dude. This is seriously ridiculous, why not just do a Viz or SJ, have it release online in English for sale before a physical edition! Or just make English physical editions! It's not like most fans from Japan are pirating it, it's seriously mainly overseas fans and that's to help translate it, Sonic's literally more popular here, ofc this was bound to happen if there wasn't an official release!

corocoro made a manga about shadow the hedgehog during the year of shadow the hedgehog, didn't make it available outside of japan, and then threatened fans with canning it due to piracy. like at that point they deserve to have their manga pirated lmao

Definitely check out “Out of the Blue”! It’s a fan comic retelling of the manga. If you’re looking for the original manga though, I tend to use grabber.zone. All you have to do is type Sonic manga into the top and click on what you like! Some is translated, some are not, and some are still not found as lots of the manga could be considered lost media.

This also includes a few game tie-in mangas that have been released! The most recent one was for sonic superstars that was released at a Tokyo games show in 2023 and was the first Sonic manga since 2011.

Alright, Tania time. If you are unaware, Tania(or Anita as she is also called) is Nicky Parlouzer’s younger sister in the manga, so she’s one of the lesser known Sonic siblings. Maybe I like her because I’m also a younger sibling, or maybe it’s her attitude, or maybe its her design. Whatever it is, I just think she’s neat.

I’ve got an idea for an au floating around in my brain(as usual) where she grows up to become a hero. I could see it working well for her with her skills and general confidence. Maybe I’ll do some doodles in the future related to that!

So the shadow manga revealed the Gun soldiers we're influenced by Gun soldiers??? Because yeah, no longer like the manga. It makes no sense and is a direct insult towards Sonic Adventure 2

I think you mean influenced by Black Doom, right? Just to clarify.

Considering the manga definitely doesn’t follow canon events anymore, it’s not something to really be too vexed over. Shadow gets warped right into White Space after the capsule’s jettisoned out of the Ark just somehow for some reason. To me, it implies in this context that Doom’s presence is only appearing in the past because of his involvement in current events causing Generations to happen with time collapsing in itself. Otherwise it wouldn’t have a reason to occur.

Fully agree if it were retconning things into “Doom controlled the soldiers”, that would absolutely suck but since Shadow got a headache after the eyes started appearing behind the soldiers, I’m assuming he’s probably only seeing illusions. Doom’s able to connect like a hive mind to any in his species and Shadow having his DNA means he’s susceptible to Doom getting into his head like in 05. If this were meant to be canon, I’d think it’s something that would just write itself out once doom’s defeated again by current Shadow.

In the end, there’s a goofy heehaw exposition creature now acting as a conversation device for Shadow to bounce off for the likely remaining chapters. And they gotta find the seven dragon balls three orbs to wish Maria back alive. This is definitely becoming fairly unserious and not meant to fit into canon. It’s ultimately a gag manga so while I didn’t put much stock in it from the beginning, the fact it still managed to stay fairly accurate to the characters themselves despite going off in the plot makes it worth the ride I guess. For me at least lol
