(ASHBY GENTRY) [THE SHADOW]. Please welcome [PRINCETON 'PRINCE' CAMERON (THEY/HE)] to Huntsville, WV. They are an [22]-year-old [VISITOR] who lives in [TOWN]. You may see them around working as a [COOK AT BUCKY'S DINER]. Poor unfortunate soul. We’ll see if they survive.
Full Name: Princeton Cameron Birthday: July 30 Age: 22 Hunter or Gatherer: Neither Sexuality: Pansexual Height: 5'10 Relationship Status: Single
Prince was not planned - Yale was already thirteen by the time he was born - and while their parents loved them very much, they weren't exactly looking forward to raising another child. A lot of the care fell to Yale, and by extension her closest friends Jace Kane and Michael Brunmeier (but honestly Prince didn't really mind).
They did not let down their name by any means; Prince was extremely smart, and it didn't take long for them to start skipping grades, looking for a new challenge. They didn't really like hanging out with kids their own age; hanging out with Yale and her friends made him feel too cool for anyone else, and the general intelligence gap didn't help, either.
Prince adored Yale, and while they often sarcastically called her mom and her best friend/ex boyfriend Michael dad, there was no one else they respected or listened to as much as they did Yale. They barely listened to anything their own parents had to say; they couldn't be bothered to raise Prince; why should he?
When Yale's band started getting bigger around the time Prince was about ten, they made the decision to start doing online schooling, because they wanted to travel with her instead of go to school where he was already so much younger than everyone around him. Prince had decided early on that attending high school online would be better for them anyway, as they were very small compared to everyone else with his constant skipping of grades, and they were never that social, anyway.
Michael often wound up being Prince's babysitter while Yale and Jace performed; neither of them were in the band, but the four of them were a packaged deal, so they worked the merch booth together until Prince was sixteen and could be trusted to be alone without causing too much troubles. So he'd sit in the back with the merch, watching the band play while doing homework or reading a book or chatting with the other band's merch sellers, trying to sneak drinks when no one was paying attention.
He had never minded the way things were; they were unconventional, but they were happy. They had finished their high school classes by the time they were fifteen and had been idly bringing up the idea of actually going to Princeton two years later. They didn't really want to be away from Yale after spending so much time around her but they couldn't help but think that going to school in person, let alone an Ivy League college would be the next big challenge they could conquer - they just wanted to go on one more tour.
Unfortunately for Prince, the last tour he opted to go on with the band was also the one where Michael took a wrong turn and the little found family wound up in Huntsville. Prince wasn't sure if they should scream, cry or laugh at the misfortune.
Being in Huntsville has forced him to socialize more with people their own age, though their tendency to act like they're better than everyone doesn't really help. However, it's because they simply don't feel like they fit in. Between his above average intelligence, and not really liking the way people perceive him , the wit and snooty air is a way to keep others at arms length. It's not that they don't want friends - it's that they never really learned how to just be their current age.

STORY POINTS
If you had asked Winnie how she got where she is today when she was a kid, she'd be horribly confused.
She had a normal childhood. Her parents often worked but when everyone was home, they would play board games, eat dinner together, and watch movies like a regular family.
As Winnie grew, however, a teacher she was seeing after school started giving her a lot of unhealthy attention. When it turned into a relationship, she was told to tell no one and she would tell no one.
However, it led to her getting into trouble at school. It started with talking too much in class and then getting into fights with bullies... Her parents were growing concerned. They didn't know what could've caused such a change in her behavior.
Bad behavior at school expanded to home. She stopped wanting to watch and play with her little sister and instead chose to get lost in her own imaginary worlds and with her own doll adventures.
Her parents didn't know what to do. They were overreacting out of fear. So much so that her mother hired doctors and therapists and her father got in touch with the local priest because of her drastic change. She went along with it but kept her secrets. She was in love.
When money was running low from treatments, that was when a reality TV crew from the US stepped in. They promised funds for her treatment if they could film Winnie during her "journey".
It was an effort to help her, but now, it only made her behavior worse. If they wanted possessed and crazy, she would give them possessed and crazy. Especially since the teacher stopped their relationship when the attention was getting too much. She wanted revenge now.
She played pranks on her sister and scared her, spoke in tongues when the priests were around, and told the doctors constant lies.
Maybe her behavior was an overreaction to it all, but the way that all her family was treating her made her feel like a monster. She felt lost. Violated. No one to trust. Especially when they gave her an exorcism and broadcast it to the public.
She just had no idea how much her little sister was hurting from it all. Winnie was young, it was just easy to mess with her sister to get to her parents. She never meant to actually hurt her and tried telling her so. It was just hard for someone even younger than her to understand.
Marjorie just wanted it all to stop... So she did the only thing she knew. She made Winnie's bowl of soup one night and poured rat poison in when no one was looking.
What she didn't know was that Winnie poured her own soup back into the pot, deciding to starve in her usual protest rather than eat her mother's cooking that night.
Everyone ate the soup. She watched as all of them foamed and died in front of her. Two days later, the TV Crew found her. The police were called.
...It really did not help the possession rumors.
She was sent to a group home where she met Lizzie. By that time, she was known to the world as Wicked Winnie. No one believed her story. No one believed a word she said.
Lizzie stayed by her side and was as fed up as she was with the treatment... They ran off together and have been on the run for 13+ years.
She lied, cheated, stole, and slept with who she had to during that time. Anything to keep her new sister safe. She learned not to trust anyone or anything but her.
Her Uncle has been trying to find her and take her in for years, but she's evaded him in favor of Lizzie every time.
Eventually, they stumbled upon Huntsville... It looked like they would be staying somewhere indefinitely for the first time in a long time.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
1. Her Uncle
2. Hookups, FWBs, Fake Relationships
3. Bad Influences / Good Influences
4. Drinking / Party Buddies
5. Coworkers, Friendships, Enemies
…More to come, I’m sure!

(Phil Dunster) [The Egotistical]. Please welcome [Harvey Langston (He/Him)] to Huntsville, WV. They are an [31]-year-old [VISITOR] who lives in [TOWN]. You may see them around working as a [(currently) Unemployed]. They are looking for [Samantha 'Sammie' Thompson] their [Fake Fiancee]
Name: Harvey Alexander Langston
NickNames: Harv
Face Claim: Phil Dunster
Age: 31
Gender/Pronouns: cis man ; he/him
Orientation: Bisexual
Town Visitor
Neither Hunter or Gatherer
Occupation: Currently Unemployed
Languages Spoken: English, BSL, Portuguese
Traits: Confident / Sexy / Dramatic / Conceited / Opinionated / Amoral
--------
Born into a working class family
Started making youtube videos as a teenager (back in the early days when people recorded on crappy webcams) using just his last name Langston and the number 99 as his screenname, Langston99
Channel started gaining a large amount of followers in the early 2010s after a video started getting recommended and promoted by the website
"if you want to ride the Lang train and be part of the Lang gang then like and subscribe below" #LangTrain #LangGang
As he started to grow in online popularity he went on to show up in tv shows here and there as a guest or bit part in an episode
Took part in a 'celebrity' reality show in his mid 20s
Had a coming out video which had mixed reactions: many in support, others that were either flat out homo or biphobic, and then some who accused him of faking/lying about it
Started fake dating fellow influencer, Sammie Thompson, aka RammieSammie, two years ago after both of their managers pushed it, saying that it would help boost their careers
Around this time was when he started making TikTok videos as well
Outside of tiktoks that he did with Sammie for their 'relationship' content, his TikTok account was very specifically shirtless eating and cooking content (note that he is not a youtube food channel lol)
Got fake engaged to Sammie a week before she started the convention circuit, which caused a lot of fans to speculate whether or not Harvey would show up at any of them as well
Got a random call from Sammie's manager one night after she failed to show up at a convention, wondering if she'd ditched. Harvey had no idea.
After Sammie still didn't show up or return any type of contact with anyone over the next week or so, Harvey went to look for her. Vlogging his travels and search as he did of course.
Eventually he figured that she was dead (and yes he did make a video about it), but he was already in the states, might as well stay for a while and get some content
Recently got stuck in Huntsville and has no idea that Sammie is here or that she's alive in general
Update:
Now knows that Sammie is in town and alive
Works part time as a bartender at the dance hall and part time as a personal trainer
Volunteers at the retirement home

〔 taylor russell, 29, cis woman, she/her ) SUTTON MANN was seen listening to BETTER ALONE BY LYKKE LI on their way to study law/social worker. SUTT is a SOCIAL WORKER and is known to be SELFLESS & CRITICAL.
This intro contains EXPLICIT MENTIONS of the following triggers: abandonment, parental neglect
This intro contains BRIEF MENTIONS of the following triggers: alcoholism
BASICS
full name: sutton marie mann
goes by: sutton
gender & pronouns: cis woman | she/her
sexual orientation: bisexual
age: 29
face claim: taylor russell
A LITTLE DEEPER
( + ) selfless
( + ) independent
( + ) problem-solving
( - ) critical
( - ) tends to hold a grudge
( - ) avoidant
STORY
TLDR ;; sutton is the oldest child of a crew of 7 siblings, all six being younger than her, and very few of them having the same father. due to her mother’s neglect, sutton was forced to take on the role of “parent” at just 6 years old. she has developed a hyper-independent personality because of this, and finds it hard to open up to others, especially because she struggles with letting anyone help her or her family.
sutton would like you to know she didn’t ask to be born. she reminded her mother of that, too.
but, she decided, if she had to be alive, she would make sure it was for good reason. and lucky for her, she had six good reasons.
the first came when sutton was 6 years old. her father had come back to huntsville for a brief stay with family - and although sutton held no affection towards the man, he ended up giving her a baby brother nine months later.
oscar gave her a very good reason, even if she only understood enough to know he needed milk and new diapers. so she taught herself how to make bottles and made the 3 block trip to the laundromat to wash his cloth diapers, oblivious to the reason the adults she stood beside while folding their clothes shot her sad, pitiful glances.
was this not normal? were other children her age not cooking oatmeal in the microwave because they couldn’t quite reach the stove?
a few years later came another baby brother, though sutton never met his father. it was better that way. by then, she was strong enough to carry him to the laundromat, and oscar was potty trained, and sutton could finally use the stove.
by the time sutton was 13, she had three younger siblings, and she learned quickly not to complain, or tell an adult that her mom was never around. the one time she did, words like foster care and sibling separation and god only knows what else were thrown around. and she was sure that worked for other people, but good god - who was she if not a big sister?
so she kept her mouth shut. smiled at the grown ups in the laundromat. thanked the cashiers at the grocery stores. fed herself and her two brothers and her baby sister and her mother. carried oscar to urgent care in the middle of a snowstorm because he had a fever so bad it was hot to the touch and their mother was too drunk to drive.
she tried her hand at romance. thought maybe she deserved a shot. but her best shot fizzled out when she pushed her high school boyfriend - ariyon cole - out of the picture when she was interrupted for the 4th time during their six-month anniversary date. she didn't know why she thought she'd earned the right to something for herself, anyway. not when her 5th sibling was due just after high school graduation.
oscar helped as soon as he was old enough to understand what was really going on, but sutton was pretty sure nothing had ever hurt her more than when she had to take money from him to make rent.
now aged 29, she's the eldest of 7 children, all 6 of whom she's raised on her own. oscar still lives with her, helping her with the 3 youngest siblings. her 19 year old brother and 18 year old sister were off at college, scholarships giving them at a chance sutton had fought for them to find. she cried harder than any of the parents at oscar's graduation, and the same stood for emmett & sophia's, too.
after years of nighttime classes, online schooling, and tests taken hunched over her laptop at 2 am, she was able to become a social worker, and has since taken it upon herself to help other children that were in the position she had been all those years ago.

❧ Name: Camille (KA-mee) Dubois ❧ Nickname: KiKi (family and close friends only) ❧ Age: 24 ❧ Gender: Non-binary, she/her ❧ Orientation: Pansexual ❧ Relationship: Divorced ❧ Occupation: Current - Library Storytime Reader / Former - Model/Actress ❧ Residence: Commune ❧ Title: The Fallen Star ❧ Faceclaim: Lily-Rose Depp
❧ Personality -
Creative / Kind / Friendly / Passionate Melancholy / Obsessive / Fragile / Clingy
❧ Introduction -
tw: ed mention, mental illness
When Camille was little, her mother decided she didn’t want her baby girl to grow up in a town like Huntsville with so little opportunity. So she packed up Camille when she was seven and traveled across the country to Los Angeles, convinced her daughter had what it took to be a star.
She enrolled Camille in modeling and acting classes and began to take her to auditions at the tender age of nine. She was successful and quickly starred in commercials and kid clothing in catalogs, before moving on to background and side roles in movies and television. Camille continued to gain recognition as she grew older, in high demand and trained by her mother to never say no to any opportunities. Her mother thrived in the environment, happily taking on the role as Rising Star Mom by taking interviews and even writing a book about her experience.
Camille, however, felt the pressure growing from all around her. She had to stay beautiful and relevant. She developed an eating disorder in an attempt to stay thin, she partied and had just enough scandals to keep her name in the news. It was exhausting and over time she became moody and irritable and began to lash out at her mother.
In a desperate attempt to get away from the woman, Camille jumped into a relationship with an older man at eighteen, marrying him after only three months of dating just so she’d have an excuse to leave her mother behind. The spotlight continued to follow her, though, and despite genuinely enjoying performing, she could feel the weight of it all beginning to crush her.
She grew more and more unstable, finally having a very public breakdown at twenty-two, which involved her husband. Afterwards, he told her she’d humiliated him enough and filed for divorce. Heartbroken and unwell, Camille became a recluse for a year, refusing jobs and firing her agent. Her mother scolded her and attempted to guilt her into returning to the spotlight, but the burn out was too much. Camille didn’t even enjoy performing anymore.
She decided to pack up and move back to Huntsville. She hadn’t heard from her cousins there in a while, and she was hoping to crash with them while she tried to piece her life back together. What she found when she arrived was nothing that she expected, but in a way the simpler life was welcomed. She joined the commune and has been there for a year, enjoying her time gardening and cooking and volunteering at the library as a storytime reader for the kids. She can feel herself beginning to heal some, but she knows it’ll be a long road to recovery.

SORRY FOR LONG POSTING But I’ve had more time to think about this so here’s my hot takes
Laios: barely graduated high school. Probably from a vineyard vines family, like the ducks unlimited club in high school type. Definitely has a family legacy to live up to, parents and grandparents all in the military vibes. Maybe he tried to sign up after he graduated but either didn’t make the cut or just quit one day. Born and raised in Warrior or somewhere rural. Obsessed with bugs and dragons and wolves as a kid, has been a furry since he was 11 years old and first got a computer. Extremely active on deviantart in the early 2010s but ZERO artistic skills of his own. Definitely has never had a job that paid more than $11.50 an hour. He does not give a fuck about football but tells people he’s an Alabama fan just because that’s easier than arguing about it
Falin: bullied in high school but in that fucked up girl way where you don’t realize you’re being bullied until later. Similar to her brother in interests, but better at academia and went to UAB on a pretty good scholarship with a major in ecology, but switched to nursing after a while. Picked on for being poor white trash even though she’s not actually PYT her family has some money she’s just got an accent that you could cut with a knife. She and laios talk a lot but they both hide how shitty they are doing from each other sometimes
Marcille: medicine grad student. She’s a TA for a lot of the classes Falin takes which is how they met. She also audits a lot of things that don’t seem relevant to her studies until you realize her undergraduate degree was a double major in biology and history with a concentration on early religion or something else a little spooky. She’s from Huntsville and won’t shut up about how it’s the biggest city in Alabama. Her accent takes way more after her mom who is NOT from Alabama and sometimes people ask marcille where she is from even though she was born and raised in Huntsville. She thinks it makes her sound cool and gets very embarrassed when the occasional y’all or ain’t slips out. She drinks her tea with enough sugar to make your teeth melt
Chilchuck: not from Alabama. He’s from a mining town in Appalachia. Maybe Tennessee? Has an accent that makes people think he’s stupid but he’s absolutely one of the most competent people you’ve ever met. Maybe he works construction? He doesn’t ever correct people’s assumptions about his intelligence because it’s easier to negotiate if people think they’re getting one over on you. Does not play about OSHA or labor regulations. He’s a union man to his core
Senshi: one of those self sustaining homesteader types who live in the woods and eat bears and raccoons. Looks like he could kill you, and probably could but he never would. Doesn’t care for guns but he treats his cast iron pans like his children. There’s an old shot gun propped up by his door that he got from his dad but it’s only to scare bears out of his compost heap. He can sew, cook, hunt, hike, garden, and still find time to entertain guests comfortably but he rarely gets them. Definitely a regular at farmers markets and good friends with all vendors there. Smells like cow shit because he rarely showers, but you will never meet a man who cares more about food preparation and storage. His hands are CLEAN when they need to be. He trades a lot because he doesn’t have much money if at all and people who don’t know him find him terrifying. The locals know there’s no better guy but god is he weird to them. Also NOT from Alabama. I can see him as a Louisiana resident. Not a city dweller for sure
Laios Touden but if he were from sweet home Alabama

(Margaret Qualley) [THE CAPTAIN]. Please welcome [DELPHI TREMAINE (SHE/HER)] to Huntsville, WV. They are an [28]-year-old [VISITOR] who lives in [TOWN]. You may see them around working as a [MANAGER AT THE SASQUATCH]. Poor unfortunate soul. We’ll see if they survive.
Full Name: Delphi Amelia Tremaine Birthday: December 28 Age: 28 Hunter or Gatherer: Neither Sexuality: Pansexual Height: 5'8 Relationship Status: single
Being born first in a set of twins, Delphi took on the role of Denny's protector early in life. She often encouraged him in whatever made him happy, finding that she felt far more fulfilled watching him try things than do them herself. She never had to be embarrassed - Denny would do something, and if he failed, he just took it in stride. Delphi didn't think she could ever do anything like that.
While Denny became an internet kid, Delphi found her footing in the kitchen. She enjoyed helping their mom or dad during dinner, finding great satisfaction in watching the perfect meal be pieced together. She spent afternoons with Denny arguing over who got to watch what, and when she eventually won the dispute, she'd put on the food network, eyes bright and hopeful that some day, she'd be on there hosting her own show.
The introduction of the third Tremaine at eight was unexpected; and it's not that Delphi didn't love her baby brother, but it gave her parents less time to spend with her in the kitchen. She wasn't resentful, per se, but she wasn't happy, either, and often resigned herself to helping Denny film and roughly edit his footage. It wasn't her forte, but she took to it quickly enough.
Once in high school, Delphi took as many cooking classes as she could, thriving in the environment and even got her first job at the small diner near their house because a friend of the family owned it. She loved being in the real life kitchen there, and while she had to follow the recipes given to her, she loved having real world experience. Denny would drag her along to film him on her days off, and then she'd come home and cook whatever she felt like. Their parents rarely interfered, which was a blessing for her, and they even seemed to prefer when she cooked.
Delphi noticed, however, that Denny was changing. Despite never being that close with Camden, the two often talked about how they rarely saw their real brother anymore, often overshadowed by his YouTube persona. It was concerning, and the only thing Delphi could think of was to get Denny out of New York. She had been saving up to go to culinary school, but decided to dip into the funds to take them both on a road trip after a particularly bad break up of Denny's that left him practically despondent and forced a hiatus from his channel.
Camden was furious with them because Delphi said he couldn't come with - he was under eighteen after all, and she didn't want to responsible for her kid brother, and their parents didn't want him going either. Delphi had yelled her goodbye into the house while Denny tried to get him to come out and say a proper goodbye, but they both figured he'd be over it by the time they got back in a few weeks. Unfortunately for them, however, they found Huntsville instead.
Delphi is much quieter than her brother, and prefers watching other people than joining in herself. She's very knowledgeable when it comes to food and cooking, as well as video editing, though that's not particularly handy here. She forced herself to pick a job that wasn't the same place where Denny worked to force them both out of their shell a little bit, and while managing a bar wouldn't be her top choice, she's rather well suited or the job with her no nonsense attitude and ability to command a room. She feels some guilt for the way she left things with Camden, but if he had gotten stuck here as well and something had happened to him, Delphi never would have forgiven herself.

Camp LEAD
Camp LEAD is Lincoln Academy's summer camp for kids in 3rd through 8th grades, and we were able to donate supplies for a week of cooking classes.
Glenda Jones, who taught the Camp LEAD cooking classes in July was SO grateful for your donations of cash/checks/gift card/appliances to get the camp going! Thank you for helping give this opportunity to our children in Huntsville! As a bonus at The Greene Street Market at Nativity last night I met her friend who leads the 7-8th grade girls journaling group at Lincoln Village Ministry. Y'all, the love pouring out of these women inspires me. If you ever want to use your God-given talent to help children, there are plenty of opportunities, for sure!! THANK YOU!
(About once a month Glenda, aka GJSweet, LLC, sells her treats at The Greene Street Market at Nativity. So stop by and say "hello" if you see her! She'd love to meet you! And her treats are so YUMMMY!)

Monday/Tuesday.....Sept. 9/10 Hip Ext / Squats.....Back Squat Holds.....Wall-Balls & Rows.....Dips.
LHCF Mom’s (plus Dana) met at 0930 Monday. The rest of you will be at the Barn on Tuesday at 4 PM. Both classes are virtually the same WOD. However, Tuesday will be lacking in pulchritudity. Only Timmy will know what that means.

Buy-out: Dips Anyhow 5/5/5/5
Notes:
Record heat due to CLIMATE CHANGE today. 98 degrees they said.
Thunderstorms raged all around the Barn but only produced some very cooling winds and very few drops of rain. Naturally we are conflicted with this problem...we are in a short-term Fall drought and need rain, but we also need to get our outdoor workout done. We got the workout done.
I wish Sweet Emily was still here and not gone back to Huntsville. She and Brendan would be a perfect pair to hook up. At least during WODs.
Susan S had minor finger surgery today. Herb says she is recovering bravely without pain meds, and back to her routines of cooking and cleaning house. I think Dana actually is looking after Mom.
We have openings for a couple of deplorable legend types in our classes at CrossFit Wilco. These classes are specifically designed for older people who would like to exercise but are scared of CrossFit. Miss Linda (the nice Buck) and I coach these classes every Monday and Friday at 2:30 at Wilco, near the Costco in Cool Springs. They offer a free initial workout, and then $75 a month after that. The Buck’s are un-paid...we do this for fun. The people who come are seeing huge gains in strength/work capacity/and general fitness. They love it, and would like to have a few more in the classes. If you have a parent, Uncle/Aunt/even Grand-Parent, or friend who fits this class, send them to us.
Thursday is a 4 PM WOD and wine-tasting. I hope Tom is back from the Philippines. He can be counted on for bringing good wine.

Makrut Lime – Herb of the Month
By Maryann Readal
The Herb Society of America’s Herb of the Month for August is the makrut lime, Citrus hystrix, a member of the Rutaceae family. This lime is also known as kaffir lime or Thai lime, and also wild lime. You may have spotted it in a produce market or Asian supermarket and wondered what makes it different from an ordinary lime. It certainly looks different, in that it has a gnarly, bumpy skin. The very aromatic leaves are different, too, because they look as though they are two leaves attached to each other. The juice is sour and bitter, and so is not usually used in cooking because it can overwhelm other flavors.
This lime has been widely grown in Asia for so long that it has become naturalized in many countries. Therefore, no one is certain of its origin. It is a staple ingredient in Thai, Cambodian, Vietnamese, and other Southeast Asian cuisines. The leaves, which are sold frozen, fresh, or dried, are usually finely chopped and incorporated into food or sprinkled on top. The makrut lime can be planted outdoors in warmer climates, or grown in a pot that can be brought inside for the winter in colder climates. It is a host plant for the giant swallowtail butterfly.
Recently, there has been a concerted effort among chefs and other food professionals to replace the name kaffir lime with the name makrut lime or Thai lime. The word “kaffir” has a derogatory, racist connotation in South Africa, and it has a derogatory religious meaning in Middle Eastern countries.
Like other citrus species, the leaves, seeds, skin, bark, and root of the makrut lime have a number of medicinal benefits. In Southeast Asian countries, it has been used in shampoos, ointments, and in toothpaste and mouthwash products. A recent study published in the journal Nutrition by Kooltheat et al. (2016) has shown that the essence of the lime used on the teeth and gums can prevent tooth decay. In Malaysian countries, the leaf is rubbed into the gums and on the teeth as a mouth and dental cleaner. And because of the fruit’s limonene and citronella content, it is added to shampoos to treat lice. The lime has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat colds and congestion and to help with digestion. Its oil is also used in aromatherapy to reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue. In Thailand, makrut lime is added to household cleaning products. The authors of an article in Drug Intervention Today conclude that because of the lime’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial components, “extensive investigation on its pharmacology and clinical trials is needed to exploit their therapeutic utility to cure various diseases” (Abirami et al., 2014).
Distillers and bartenders have discovered that the addition of makrut lime to their beverages can make distinctive-tasting and aromatic drinks. Treaty Oak Distilling in Dripping Springs, Texas, has developed a gin that incorporates the makrut lime, as well as other herbs. They describe their gin as making you “rethink everything you thought you knew about this spirit.”
Research on the medicinal qualities of the makrut lime underscores the importance of protecting native species that have been used for centuries as medicinal plants. It is promising that there is ongoing research on the effective medical applications of not only the makrut lime, but many other native medicinal plants as well.
For more information on the makrut lime, please visit The Herb Society of America’s website, where you will find more information, recipes and a beautiful screen saver of this unusual-looking fruit. https://www.herbsociety.org/hsa-learn/herb-of-the-month.html
