I think this is pretty spot on; whenever I see discussion of the economy and economic perceptions, there's always people in the replies going "yeah, but eggs are $8 a dozen" or "why is every middle class family I know foodbanking." And then OP, or someone else, will post data showing egg prices are stable, or that wages have actually been rising faster than inflation, and the person who posted that may even admit that, ok, things are fine for them personally, but not for other people.
And it's always been true that politics is more about attitudes and aesthetics than it is about policy or facts on the ground; but it's rare that attitudes are so divorced from people's actual material circumstances. And while I think there are lots of things contributing to this disconnect, as matter of campaigning, I don't really know how you overcome it.
#economic indicators have not in fact suddenly stopped being useful in the last few years#the cpi is not a psyop#nor is this sentiment-data mismatch all that mysterious#there are probably a half-dozen contributing factors#that have come together at a time that's really inconvenient#i genuinely believe if the war in gaza had not happened that very online leftists would think the economy was doing better

the problem with landlords is not that they are "lazy" or "useless" the problem is they hoard a resource needed for survival and extort people for access how many times does this need to be said
#speaking as a disabled person if your argument against landlords centers around their lack of contributions to The Economy [tm]#i do not trust you to actually have good intentions#because guess what producing value should not be a prerequisite to being able to survive

Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump have proposed several initiatives that could impact the wealth of lower and middle-class Americans:
Implementation of Tariffs: Trump's administration has imposed tariffs on various imported goods, aiming to protect domestic industries. However, these tariffs have led to increased prices for everyday items, disproportionately affecting lower and middle-income consumers. For instance, tariffs on washing machines resulted in higher costs for American shoppers, outweighing the economic benefits for local workers.
WSJ.COM
Simplification of the Tax Code: Musk and Trump have considered overhauling the U.S. tax system, potentially moving towards a flat tax. While this could simplify filing, it might also eliminate deductions that benefit low and middle-income families, potentially increasing their tax burdens.
ECONOMICTIMES.INDIATIMES.COM
Reduction of Federal Spending: Appointed by Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk aims to cut federal spending by up to $2 trillion. Proposed measures include reducing the federal workforce and eliminating certain government programs. Such cuts could lead to job losses and reduced services that many lower and middle-class individuals rely on.
FINANCE.YAHOO.COM
Dismantling of Foreign Aid Programs: Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency have been involved in dismantling USAID, affecting numerous health and development programs worldwide. Critics argue that while reform is necessary, abrupt shutdowns can have harmful impacts on aid-dependent regions and may also affect global stability, indirectly impacting the U.S. economy and its citizens.
NEWYORKER.COM
These initiatives, while aimed at economic efficiency and protectionism, carry potential risks for lower and middle-class Americans, including higher consumer prices, increased tax burdens, job losses, and reduced access to essential services.
Elimination of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB): Elon Musk has advocated for dismantling the CFPB, an agency established to protect consumers from unfair financial practices. Abolishing the CFPB could expose consumers to predatory lending and financial scams, disproportionately affecting lower and middle-income individuals.
DEMOCRATS-FINANCIALSERVICES.HOUSE.GOV
Proposed Cuts to Social Programs: The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk, has proposed significant reductions in federal spending, including cuts to social programs like Medicaid and SNAP. These programs provide essential support to low-income families, and reducing their funding could lead to decreased access to healthcare and nutrition assistance.
FORBES.COM
Potential Impact of Immigration Policies: Trump's stringent immigration policies, including mass deportations, could lead to labor shortages in industries such as agriculture and construction, potentially driving up costs for goods and services. These increased costs may be passed on to consumers, affecting lower and middle-class households.

Not that I think losing crime is bad, but it certainly would be interesting to explore the financial consequences to a massive city like Gotham where crime does pay for half or more (of everything) and drives the local economy, as partly illegal shipping for gangsters also moves legal products to buyers. Or that working for mobsters is stable enough to feed families.
As Batman succeeds and dismantles these power structures and pseudo industries, what happens to the city? Is there even a way to disentangle all of it from the corruption that runs it (seen when Jim Gordon has to hire cops investigated by internal affairs because they've all been investigated).
Would Wayne Enterprises just have to fill in all the gaps? WE shipping, catering, et cetera to replace lost jobs and income? Or would Batman have to reckon with the fact that he can't shut down everything? At least not as bluntly as he does.
#Maybe all his kids are in charge of running some aspect of criminal enterprises after bats is finished with them#batman#Dc comics#bruce wayne#Batfamily#Maybe a stupid thought as I know sparingly little about money aside from how drug money props up economies and contributes to spending powe#Gotham#Gotham city

i haven't played eternal strands yet but i was (finally) watching the trailers on steam and the conversations being in a bit of a visual novel format was so charming 😭 the MC has a cool design too, i love her already. did you find the characters interesting??
The characters really grew on me during their personal quests. Theres one thats just helping someone get medication and emotional support for their OCD and it was solid. The voice acting was amazing.
Oria and Laen were my favorites. Sevastyan ended up being really interesting. And without spoiling, I like the characters that are introduced later on. One specific guy is so. Irritating. Created in a lab just for me. He's the worst I love him.
I think the only one I didnt connect with was Brynn because she reminds me of Rook lol. She's so JRPG Protagonist in her personality. But by the end of things she earned her right to be the modern-speaking quirked-up power-of-friendship girlie.
Overall its not crazy game of the year level storytelling but its fun and really well done. I wanna see what the studio does next with player feedback and an even bigger budget so I'll keep recommending it. 🥺❤️
#im doing my part#eternal strands is contributing to the bitchy annoying dilf economy and for that alone im giving it a perfect score#replies

Why do you live in a shitty apartment? Being a ninja for so many years mean that you should be able to afford some nicer digs don't you think.
Maa...maa...such colourful adjectives would imply that you've actually seen the inside of my apartment - which I highly doubt. Not with my wards. There's nothing wrong with it, it has Mr Ukki in it. Shinobi has no need for excess you know, not when the majority of our time is spent out of the village on missions.

I have one sided beef with long-dead US founding father Benjamin Franklin, because he got the label "polymath" on his wikipedia page, since running a printing business back in Ye Old 1700s netted enough money and time to do hundreds of funky little experiments, write a badillion books, and fuck every old woman on both sides of the pond. meanwhile i, a wizard blogger
#okay according to wikipedia you actually have to make multiple recognized contributions in a variety of fields to be a polymath#which these days is very hard to do in an economy that stresses specialization#i just want to make and do all of the things :/

every time i see ppl online be like “you might not pay rent when u live with ur parents but ur paying with ur soul” im like damn i’m paying both with my money AND with my soul. truly got the worst of both worlds
#x#real question in this economy how are people’s parents affording that. my parents i don’t think would be physically able to pay for#everything at this point without me and my brothers contributions#like literally In This Economy???? everything’s INSANELY expensive. there’s no way#and our so called ‘rent’ literally is not even that much. i mean like it’s a solid chunk of my pay but not even close to the equivalent of#renting out a room in london ANYWHERE which is why im still even here in the first place lmao#i know it’s a point of pride/contention for people to argue abt parents who ‘make’ their kids pay rent and even just a couple years ago i#was arguing abt it too but atp im like yeah pretty sure there’s no other option anymore

and i know i could and possibly might just start posting about fics and what not that i'm writing her and set up a kofi and take suggestions and what not but. it's a lot of work.
#i'm just trying to find things i can do to help me out y'know?#motivation wise sometimes having prompts or suggestions is helpful#but building a platform annoys me and scares me#and i don't think one should have to do that to write fic and what not.#or make playlists or anything.#bc monetizing and making creative outlets like that a job or a popularity contest kills the joy for doing them.#but i also have nothing else i can offer that would be in any way marketable or monetary in terms of making something into a side hustle.#i need a raise. i need to stay longer at work. i need all kinds of things#bc it's just. crushing me atm.#and i feel like shit being crushed.#by the economy and the world at large.#i just want to thrive. and be able to get myself little treats when i think i deserve them.#and it's just. impossible at the moment.#i'm going to be 30 this year.#and i've got to keep reminding myself that i'm doing okay.#we have a house.#we are making payments on it and everything is fine#but i feel. so stretched out.#mentally and physically.#and i feel like a burden. even though i know i'm not.#like. i'm making the car payments. which we need. and i'm paying the insurance and the internet bills and my part of the mortgage#but like.#i still feel like i'm not contributing where i need to.#and it's just.#damn y'know?#idk how to fix that.#and it's not just me wanting more money to buy books it's me feeling like shit bc i can't put as much towards groceries.#or put my part towards the phone bill or electric and gas.#anyway i'm feeling like slimy howl i'm gonna go write something.
