friendship + loss for feron!

Friendship: What's your OC like as a friend? How are they at making new friends? What are the most important friendships in your OC's life?

Up until meeting the rest of the tadfools, Feron had.......no friends. Or she thought she did. Sal's hometown was the village of Hill's Edge, once a thriving city near the Reaching Woods where she was held captive by Margaery. It used to boast at least 10,000 people during its busiest times, but with the goblins and gnolls and the hag within the woods drove many away. By the time Feron moved in with Salus, there was less than a quarter population left and most were kind of fond of Feron! A minor part of her backstory involved her running an apothecary, so my thoughts are that Sal opened the business in his retirement and his treks into the woods were to look for wild grown spell components and healing herbs. Feron helped him run it after a while and a lot of their regulars thought she was quiet but helpful and she was convinced they hated her (since for years she had been one of the causes behind the village's declining population; one of her duties was luring people into Margaery's territory after all).

It's very much a goob "they all hated me" while everyone is smiling & waving at him from Meet The Robinson's lmao. There's definitely someone in Hill's Edge who assumed they were friends and Feron had no idea, like Katniss with Madge in THG. She also managed to have a few short-lived flings somehow, but they always fizzled out quickly, either because Feron didn't live up to the mystique they had of her in their heads, or because Feron thought they were getting annoying.

Upon meeting the rest of the brain bug gang, Feron knew she had to either make it or break it since the survival of the entire group depended on them working together towards finding a cure for the worm. Meaning they were stuck together and she couldn't afford to spend however long painfully in awkward, silent agony with the others. So she does her best. Remembers the manners Salus taught her during her rehabilitation period and tries. In the end, she realizes she really had nothing to worry about: her friends were just as strange and fucked up as she was when they first met.

Loss: Is there anyone important to your OC who has passed away? How did they handle the loss?

Salus died of possibly the best thing anyone in a fantasy setting can die of: old age. Even being an adventurer in his youth couldn't take him down, so he lived his full half-elven life span (and nearly beat it by a year; Feron had hoped they could celebrate his 151st birthday before he passed but were shy about three months before he did). He was as spry as ever towards the end, always telling Feron he didn't need help getting around the house or lifting things but always ended up letting her help anyways. They still ran the apothecary together, though Sal would always leave after lunch to go take a nap lol. Then Feron would come home for dinner and they'd read together then go to bed. They had a routine together! So when Salus didn't wake her up one morning for another day at the apothecary, the whole thing really took a lot out of her.

Feron took a long time to grieve. The apothecary was closed for years. For a while she abandoned the house and went back to the woods, killing goblins and gnolls and anything that got in her way. She spent a lot of time in wild shape again, but this time by choice. It was her way of avoiding her emotions. After a particularly close call with a human hunter some decades later, she thought it time to be a person again, and went back to the house to try and get her life together.

She spent a while getting the house together again, then had another mini meltdown when she found out the apothecary had been foreclosed on. While cleaning up the house, she found the courage to go through Salus' old things and came across information on a relationship between him and one of his old adventuring companions. He'd once had a romantic entanglement with the party's gnomish cleric, Calyn Springweave, and it had ended poorly (but not so poorly that she didn't answer his letters when he summoned the party to take down Margaery). Feron thought she had the right to know of his passing and felt that Sal would've wanted her to know anyways. So she managed to track Calyn down to Baldur's Gate and was attempting to find her there when the nautiloid swooped in and got her.

I haven't really gotten deep into it, but from what I've seen going around I really like it! I think they are a good pairing with a lot of potential regarding the combination of their personalities, and it's no secret that I have a weakness from anything based on historical events 😅✨

i don’t know who needs to hear this today but apostrophes DO NOT PLURALISE THINGS. IT'S CAKES NOT CAKE'S. IT'S THE FREDRICKSONS NOT THE FREDRKCKSON'S. apostrophes are for possessives, except "its", because apostrophes are also for making contractions (it is = it's)

theres. something about romantic and platonic love being so indistinguishable from each other. how two guys being affectionate can be viewed as gay and how a man and woman's friendship can be viewed as romance. how we have to implement all these rules so we can tell at first glance whats what because otherwise we have no way of telling (plus the rules dont even work or apply all the time no matter how hard ppl try). theres like. something there. i cant explain it but ive been thinking about it a lot

is DC one of those things that was good at first but gradually turned bad? Or just got really far from the source material? ive never been interested in the comics bc they just look gritty and edgy but the older ones seem fun

this is a tough question to answer because comics don't really work that way, Dc has ALWAYS been bad but is has equally always been good. DC publishes dozens of books at once and it really just boils down to if i like whatever writer is currently writing the book im interested in. despite my current issues with DC I'd actually say things are pretty good right now especially compared to say, a decade ago.

lets look at two ongoing runs right now, Green Arrow and Detective Comics(which i will call 'tec for short). despite the fact i like green arrow as a character more i dont really like his current writer. and then moving over to the current 'tec run though i havent liked past writers i really like the current one, comics are just really fluid like that.

as for dc being more grim dark its both true and untrue, with the release of The Killing Joke in the 80's DC did spearhead a whole dark and edgy era in comics but things arent always that way, i wouldnt even say theyre that way the majority of the time. different writers have different styles and though things definitely happen for shock value sometimes i think frank miller esque grittiness is decidedly out of fashion. there has also always been silly funny comics Justice Leauge International in the 80's Young Justice in the late 90's and many more(id say most runs are dramas with some comedy action and suspense really. good mix)

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

i think there's actually a few answers for this one, but i'm gonna start with v/arric lmao. honestly, i was initially neutral/favourable towards him but there's v few people who i trust now w correct v/arric takes. i think most people fsr Need v/arric to be the morally correct friend, instead of the centrist friend w the moral backbone of an overcooked noodle, supporting their morally correct h/awke, which just leads to the most deranged and aggravating takes on him i've ever seen. at this point, i'm sick of him not just In The Media but On My Dashboard.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

hmmm... well, i've developed some More Thoughts on s/amson since the last time i rambled abt him, that seem to be contrary, i think, to how fandom as a whole thinks abt him. now, i kinda find it odd when people talk abt s/amson like he's juxtaposed to c/ullen in terms of Goodness (morality). he's not. s/amson is not a good templar - there are only TWO good templars in the entirety of dra/gon age, and they are ali/stair and keran. they are both good templars (morality) because they fucking leave willingly. s/amson was kicked out, sure, but he'll just as easily go back if he gets the opportunity to do so. s/amson is not juxtaposed to c/ullen in terms of Goodness (morality); he's the flipside to c/ullen's Blind Obedience, to c/ullen's Motivations (to join the order, to join the in/quisition). posing s/amson as good, even in k/irkwall, is rly kind of funny to me now, and i think people are wrong about it. keran did more by actively refusing to take part in atrocities against mages than s/amson ever did by smuggling mages out to actual slavers.

🔥 Pluto no longer being a planet

To me it's like how tomatoes and peppers are culturally vegetables and biologically fruits: Pluto is culturally a planet, but yeah they didn't "demote" it for no reason. If experts know it's a dwarf planet and not a planet then it's a dwarf planet. Unfortunately however they will never be able to convince a lot people, culturally, that it's not a planet, though maybe since they're teaching the truth now kids will grow up knowing it as such.
