The real sign of the inevitable dissolution of Jayce and Viktor's partnership/friendship really was the Progress Day Speech. I've seen people say this scene highlighted the growing shift in priorities between Jayce and Viktor. That Jayce was getting swept up in the limelight while Viktor wanted to keep it humble and stick to the work, and that's wrong.

First thing's first, Viktor does in fact want to go on stage (he was excited to just demonstrate the hexclaw), and Jayce is sincere in that he wants to share the spotlight and credit for hextech with Viktor. The problem in that scene is that for practically 7 years, Jayce has failed to see what's actually going on.

Jayce can't see that his face and only his face is on the mugs, the blimps, and the very banners that decorate the hall he's supposed to give a speech in. Jayce can't see that the Councilors direct all their questions on hextech to him while Viktor sits right next to him. Jayce doesn't notice that Mel, the most perceptive Councilor, still thought of Viktor as Heimerdinger's assistant (she didn't know they were close??!?!). He doesn't realize that the discussion on weaponizing hextech is centered on him rather than between him and his partner. Viktor isn't the one being invited to Piltover's parties for a reason.

Between Jayce and Viktor, they're partners on equal grounds, but to EVERYONE else in Piltover Viktor is practically a non-entity. The only person who doesn't get this is Jayce. It's a testament to Jayce's earnest naivette to think Viktor, as a Zaunite and visibly disabled, would be easily welcomed on stage by Piltover's elite to represent what Piltover has to offer. You'll notice this is the same crowd of people that attend Mel's Gala, the same Gala Viktor wasn't invited to.

This dynamic is insane!?!?! It's unsustainable!!!!! Obviously, Viktor is a grown man and could have mentioned something to Jayce, but also it's at least 7 years, how does someone miss this?!?!

By their last scene of the finale, Jayce was able to give Viktor a voice on the Council by literally standing by his side and giving him a seat at the table, but like peace treaty, the gesture has come far too late, and things cannot return to as they were.

prefacing this by saying it's obviously just my opinion, but i've spent soo much time thinking about what makes an eiffel design look the Most Eiffel to me, personally, so here are some design notes:

dark, wavy/curly hair. unkempt. anywhere between just past his ears to about shoulder length. usually tied back in a low ponytail.

scruffy!! never, ever clean shaven. his facial hair is most prominent on his chin, and there's a visible break between the hair on his upper lip and the hair on his cheeks. stubble, short/patchy beard, or hair just on his chin all work well depending on style.

visible arm hair!! and any other body hair that's relevant. generally hairy guy. anything that makes him scruffier looking is important.

long features - long face, long limbs. lanky body type, but with a bit of weight in the gut. bad posture. talks with his hands. wide, open body language: tall-ish with fairly broad shoulders, but most of the space he takes up is in his limbs so he can kind of comically fold narrowly into himself when scared / being yelled at / etc.

expressive, to kind of an absurd degree. tired eyes. lopsided smile. his eyebrows do a lot of the work: i often see people instinctively draw eiffel with sheepish "─┘└─" shaped eyebrows and it's very real to me. constantly hamming it up even when he doesn't mean to. he has the presence of a class clown that never grew out of it.

prominent nose, kind of "square rounded" in shape with a wider tip <- same as zach valenti's. i wouldn't say he looks exactly like zach valenti to me, but definitely very close, with a difference more in style than features. italian-american by association...?

generic star wars logo tee as his default outfit, but other generic logo tees for things he likes, or "undershirt worn as shirt" also feel true. the key point is that it has to look like he bought it at walmart for less than ten dollars. will wear it until it disintegrates.

not really a guy who accessorizes either, unless wearing his headphones around his neck counts.

rarely wearing shoes. holes in every single one of his socks.

orange is my preferred flight suit color for how it visually suggests eiffel traded one prison for another. needless to say, maybe, he should never be wearing it properly. usually tied around his waist, but he pretty much never wears long sleeves - even if he has the sleeves on, they're always rolled way up.

interesting how often the ones claiming that galadriel's season 2 arc was perfect and everyone who doesn't think so is just too haladriel brainrotted or something are the same folks who openly say it's fine if she were to just... fade into the background in season 3 or disappear outright. sorry I actually do think it's sexist for galadriel to be introduced as the central protagonist only for her to be gradually phased out so that gil-galad and elendil or elrond or whichever legendarium dude can have more to do.

a few weeks ago somebody ran a stop sign and crashed into my car, and being both rich and nice they took full responsibility (it was 100% their fault and they literally live in a mansion, i googled their address bc spying on the person who caused 3k damage to your car is your natural right). their insurance also paid for me to get a rental car (nationwide IS on your side btw), so enterprise gave me a 2024 jetta for a week.

my car, for reference, is 11 and a half years old. that jetta was like a spaceship. i had to get the rental dude to come back and tell me how to turn it on. monkeys understand how to use a cell phone but i couldn’t turn on this ridiculous car. when my car was ready for pick up i was sad bc i had to give back my free spaceship. i don’t want to pay 30k and more for a damn new car but it sure was nice to drive that one around for zero dollars.

almost forgot to take the medication that stops the other medication from making me experience a very bad time today because i've been hit by the inevitable (delayed, it must be said! this app was very good at delaying it) notification fatigue i get with every app, and simply irritably swiped the reminder away without truly reading.

Anyway what stopped me from messing up my week was that i DID at some point think "i'm going go use the focus timer" which was 100% motivated by wanting to buy the fake animal in the app a cute outfit with focus timer points. At which point i did see the subtle tasteful TAKE MEDICATION!!! to do list item and remember it.

Just an hour late instead of a full day. And all because i wanted to play dress up with my fake animal... maybe there is a point to gamification after all.

i do enjoy how sapkowski has returned to the striga motif for geralt in both of the standalone novels from the past two decades.

it’s not what either novel centers around, but it’s present: the events of season of storms lead up to geralt riding to vizima to take the contract. in crossroads of ravens, a similar contract from years before plays out.

if i were more cynical, i could ascribe the “return to the first episode of your character” as a bid to maximize recognition and nostalgia—if someone has read just even the first short story, then alright, they’ll recognize what’s going on here. or, capitalizing on the success of that motif, as there was and continues to be a strong reaction to the playing with roman zmorski’s story and the figure of a striga. either way, it’s a smart business move—do what worked, go back to your first wonder, your first magic trick.

but another part of me just thinks that sapkowski, after leaving the witcher theme for over ten years, then coming back, and sitting down to write on it again… has to re-associate himself with the character and how everything works. at times, to great effect: this crossroads was a very intentional re-exploration of geralt’s character.

but because writing is absolute freedom, a blank page can become anything…

he could have done anything else, and yet he decides to come back to geralt and the striga.

amusingly, i imagine it’s a bit like how a proud parent will always remember their child—even when they’ve grown up and become an adult—as how they were when they were just a small baby in diapers. that’s how they came into this world, so… that’s how they’re fondly remembered, even when they’ve grown up, got a 9-5, gotten married, moved out. after everything they’ve been put through.

it’s, “i remember when you were young,” “i remember when you came into this world.” this was his earliest incarnation, this is the simple prototype preceding the humongous machine. what i think is that the striga story is core to geralt’s character, in his author’s mind. that episode is a useful landmark to center other events around, because it was the beginning of everything.

just watched the animator vs animation series and i think its great. thank goodness this series' characters include exclusively stick figures otherwise id have a much harder time making fanart of them
