“you think you made all the right choices and became the perfect woman who would be safe and loved and okay but NEWSFLASH your husband will reveal his misogyny once you’re used up and ugly and he’ll cheat on you to feel powerful and he’ll abandon you when you’re sick or pregnant and won’t you regret registering republican THEN” is not a sick own to conservative women.
that is what evil men do. they lie. they trap you. they drain the life out of you. and this is what women do, we try to make the very best choices with all the information we can get. and one day you may be forced to come to the realization that there is no perfect formula to living as a woman in a world that is dangerous for women. it is not just conservative women who might have their lives and convictions fall apart around them. do you think liberal men do not LIE? that liberal men do not also convince women that they’ve found the one good guy and the one safe marriage and then reveal their misogyny when you’re stuck? do you think your liberal politics have saved you from male violence — and if you do, why do you think you’re different than the conservative women who say the same about theirs?

Okay this is really irritating so i need this to stop happening: "Oh I am a Christian but I don't believe in like the bible or anything; I just follow the teaching of Jesus. But like, whether Jesus was God or rose from the dead or was even real at all, doesn't really-" Stop.
STOP. This is not Christianity. You are not Christian. Christian comes from "Christ" and it is the Christian belief that for Jesus to be the Christ and the Ben Adam (Son of Man/Humanity) is form him to be both human and divine. If you think he was just some moral teacher you're a fool whatever, that's fine, it's fine. BUT DON'T CALL YOURSELF CHRISTIAN!!! There is a separate thing: Jesusism or something like that. Call yourself a Jesusist (not Jesuit) or whatever. Not. Christian.
You are not Christian if you disregard the Tanakh, or Paul, or if you cannot affirm the Nicene Creed. I am not an elitist, just a gatekeeper :). Leave my religion alone.
ALSO. If you are a hater, a supporter of oppression, or otherwise concerned with controlling people's lives, also STOP CALLING YOURSELF CHRISTIAN!!! We have words for those things now. Words like "patriarchy" and "white supremacy". And if you think your Christian because "I am American! And Christianity is the religion of America!" No. No no no no no. America is Babylon. Actually do some study into Christian Political Ethics and you will find (in both the first and second testaments) criticism of many of America's policies. A country that murders innocent people cannot be called the country of Christ. It can be called the City Where Our Lord Was Slain. Stop just being a racist and misogynist and a nationalist and then claiming it's because you're religious. Cause you're not.
I will go Frederick Douglas on you so quickly do not freaking try me (Frederick Douglass wrote an awesome piece on the religion of America and how it was not the religion of Christ. #new favorite prophet)

I understand the conservative backlash against Star Wars.
In the old days, the hero was from a backwater patch of dirt, jealous of his friends who joined the army, shot small animals for fun while racing his beater in the sticks, had no idea who his dad was, and kissed his own sister.
In the new shows/movies, they just can't relate to the characters anymore.

I keep seeing this thing where guys swear up and down that they want a good Christian girl, but then balk if that means she wants to be anything more than a wife and mother. Like, my guy, you do realize that there's a lot more to Christian women than being married or having babies? Yeah? What about a woman who works among the homeless, or runs a bible study, or volunteers to teach refugees a new language, or who takes part in the prison ministry, or who spends a lot of her spare time in another city street preaching? I see a lot of guys who claim they want "a girl who loves Jesus" but don't want anything to do with a woman who does more than just go to church and lives a life of active ministry outside of her home.

In full seriousness I think it’s valid to dislike a story for all kinds of reasons, including “it’s just not my jam.” Where I get deeply irritable is when people say “XYZ is a bad story (often with the implied or explicit corollary “and anyone who writes or enjoys such a story is bad”) because it asks me to care about and/or show interest in understanding characters I find annoying/unpleasant/weak/otherwise flawed, and/or generally makes me uncomfortable.”
This is because I unironically believe that pathological unwillingness to sit with discomfort is (1) the death of empathy and curiosity, (2) an extremely powerful tool for oppression, and (3) a serious societal problem especially in societies that benefit from said oppression.

Bro I hate fundamentalists and culturally-fundie parents they'll say shit like "spare the rod spoil the child am I right haha yea my parents used to have to beat my ass with a switch almost everyday but I sure did learn my lesson" but like??? no you didn't??? you were hit multiple times for something you very obviously did not, in fact, learn
Like studies about how harmful even lightly spanking children is aside, you're literally contradicting yourself?? Some even admitted they got worse as they got older cause they wanted to see how far they could push their parents before they got punished
And studies not aside, you're gonna get child raising advice from the same book that tells you to stone your wife if her hymen doesn't break on your wedding night instead of the decades of research we have now?? Just say you're a bad parent and move on my guy. Skill issue
#bro I had a coworker go 'unpopular opinion I think some kids really do need beatings' and I'm like????#unprompted???? what's going on there????#well anyways I ended up going 'yea so I plan on specializing in play therapy with autistic children so I've been learning about talking#to children and the ways their parents and environment affects them'#and they're like hmmm but beating this kid with a stick after they broke something or I upset them to the point of yelling is good actually#had a boss say it taught him and his kids respect cause they were hard-headed#and I'm like?? that's fear not respect! they fear punishment! they do not act out of respect for you!#he's a conservative christian black man tho so he's like 'But Authority!' like bro I don't even respect you what are you on about#'You don't respect police and their authority?' Nope! I fear them! I do not respect cops and every cop/cop-adjacent person I personally know#has reinforced that for me#'We'll agree to disagree' Cool! Doesn't mean you're not wrong! I could believe trees aren't real but that is in fact incorrect#then he pulled out the bible verse and I was like ah okay I forgot you like 'here's how to treat slaves' book you're so right bestie#I'm totally wrong now and so sorry for doubting you and your 2000+ year old book I don't believe in <3#They'd go 'well I turned out fine!' then say something that directly contradicts that#anyways I need christians to get their grubby little hands off the current state of Child Protection and Rights in the U.S.#So we can actually start working on helping kids without the force of christian hands suffocating them#cause homeschooling and child raising by evangelicals are so fucked up bro I'm tired of this shit#I'd only stay in my current state to help children get out of that cycle since I'm in the bible belt#ex christian#religious trauma#child abuse tw

Every time a religious conservative says "Preaching about eternal damnation isn't inherently bad, it's only harmful when christians fail to relay the message in a godly way!" I lose a brain cell.
It's like saying eating radioactive waste isn't inherently bad for your health, it's just the way you consume it that's harmful.
You cannot tell someone they're going to suffer in Hell for all eternity if they don't obey a certain religion in a non manipulative way, just like you cannot tell someone they deserve to get their teeth kicked without being a bully.

I think what disturbs me most about a lot of the religious right whenever they debate atheists on the existence of god, is that a lot of them are so incredibly desperate to get to the 'Yes, a god exists!' conclusion -- NOT because it means that we can understand the universe and ourselves better, or that we can make life better for everyone because of it -- but so they can then relax, and finally say, guilt free: "And that's why women need to be slaves in a kitchen with no goals or dreams of their own"; or, "And that's why trans and LGBT+ folk aren't allowed to be a part of society"; or, "And that's why we need to treat children like they're 'mini mes' that have no identity or interiority of their own!"; or, "And that's why we should be allowed to completely trash this planet with no regard for other species, nor even ourselves!"
