I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.
#anyway this is just more of that lefty shit where 'well i can't be racist because i'm gay!'#'well i can't be media illiterate because i love villains!'#not how that works babes#'well I KNOW bad from good so i can't be affected by media!'#'everyone else also knows bad from good and defines it the exact way i do!'#'so if i think this is bad then the author must also think this is bad!'#i have bad news ....#also how do you know bad from good? who taught you that? hmm?#did you fall out of the womb knowing? or did you pick up some things on the way here?#'i just know' no you don't! that's what i'm saying!#assuming one thing is always true is the opposite of being a conscious consumer of media soz#assuming someone thinks and knows the exact same shit you think and know is not media literacy!!

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wen ning#wei wuxian#Ignore how Wen Ning's hair looks here because I messed it up. Let's pretend he just sported a different hair style for a brief moment.#I am not exactly great at consistency but I am trying very hard to work on that (immediately messes up again).#Absolutely *love* how Wen Ning clearly remembers and admires WWX...who does *not* recognize him.#This is the best day for Wen Ning and it means *nothing* to WWX. A painful one-sided crush made worse.#It is bittersweet to realize that we care about someone more than they care about us. Sometime we pour love into a relationship-#-with someone who just can't reciprocate. It isn't always a conscious things either. Some people just aren't aware we care.#And painfully - so painfully - You can't make them aware. No act of kindness or gift or self sacrifice will make someone care about you.#You can martyr yourself for someone and they will continue on unchanged.#I think a lot about the parallels between WN and LWJ. Not foils - just reflections. A theme repeated.#People who give so much of themselves to someone who doesn't have the capacity to give any part of themself away.#I will die on the hill of 'Wen Ning would be the love triangle romance if that trope wasn't being avoided'.#And to be honest - thank the stars above that is the case. I do not know any good love triangles in media.#We are skipping some of the sad Jiang Cheng content because I really want to finish season 2 before May.#Sorry JC emo moment lovers...I'll deliver another time.

90 minute leyendecker study b4 bed. heard cleo has a cat cafe this season :swoons:
#thellos art corner#zombiecleo fanart#hermitcraft#hermitblr#mcyt fanart#mcyt#ok time for a peek inside my skull: i really contemplated not posting this. not for any reasons of disliking it#im pretty conscious about how fat people are characterized/portrayed around food in media. both in fan works and canonized material#(flashbacks to hunk from voltron) i really think about ways to defy the way fat bodies are portrayed in my works. while also staying normal#i think at the end of the day i really see food as a love language. and serving people i love (even if its just coffee) brings me joy#even if theres a one-dimensional box that fat characters get put into regarding food. it makes me happy! so i'll try to do it with grace#i think representation isnt always this mentally twisting lol. but its definitely something i think about.#i hope i can positively project my feelings about food and love onto a plus size body (as a chubby girl :handheart:) and showcase that love#ok yeah yeah its 11pm. time to put meemaw in bed. if you read all this ur rad <3 also i stopped watching HC peeposad

thinking about how internalized misogyny manifests in the media we consume and how normalized it is to engage/prefer/favorite male-only creators (musicians, writers, artists, etc)
#my college roommate had an epiphany the day they realized their Spotify had less than five percent female artists#they proceeded to have an existential crisis as someone who held themselves out to be an audiophile#and I think about that convo every day#I make a conscious effort to balance the media I consume but it’s still hard#but! being aware of it has allowed me to explore all kinds of new genres and creators which is neat!!

Aang gets a lot of hate for not giving up on Katara in The Guru. While I don't like the fact that they never had a plotline dedicated to the concept of love and attachment not being the same thing, I love Aang as a male protagonist for that reason.
The hero sacrificing his family, friends, lovers, children is a trope as old as time. You find it in Indian mythology, Chinese mythology, Greek mythology. It's what leads to the fridged woman trope, the noir detective’s dead wife, Batman's ‘good soldier’ in modern day pop culture.
You'd also notice how it's a singularly male hero trope. The female hero, rare as she is, never even gets put into a position where she has to choose between her loved ones’ safety and the greater good. Almost as if subconsciously the writers can't fathom a woman choosing to sacrifice her family, no, when it's a woman her most important duty suddenly is about others.
Aang, in his quest to be a hero, didn't let go of the girl he loved. And when he did he did it for her safety and was narratively punished because of it. And if it means the end of world, well, what's it to a woman's love?
Except we also see how Aang takes his responsibility seriously too!—or he'd just have stood his ground on not killing Ozai and not have done any energy bending. I don't care it was a deux ex machina. I'm just glad to have a hero who didn't think his morals were more important than actual breathing people (cough, Batman, cough).
Why is it that a villain is considered a good lover because he won't sacrifice you for the world, but the moment the hero does it, it's a bad thing?
If you're going to say “it's because a he's a hero,” well then, being a hero then equals being a man who only sees the world through his man eyes. Where the narrative makes everyone else's pain his man pain while stripping the same characters of their right to have their pain acknowledged.
#if you're going to shit at me for ‘so what batman should take away joker’s bending? lol’ maybe you should go back to grade school#im talking about conscious writing choices made by people#the writers of atla took care that aang wasn't that kind of hero#aang#atla#pro aang#media#anti bruce wayne#i will feed him into an incinerator with considerable relish#i just felt like word vomiting

hate/love when you're watching or reading something and you can tell that a theme or motif or connection or something is present but you can't quite articulate it into words in your mind. feels like staring down into a dark pond and seeing something moving beneath the surface but you can't tell what it is yet
#i feel like this happens to me regularly esp eith denser media.#like your brain is picking up something and trying to put the pieces together into understanding but your conscious articulate thought#isnt quite there yet. its like 'WHAT IS IT GIRL? WHAT DO YOU SEE??'#and then after some thinking you can finally ACTUALLY put it together. (or at least ur interpretation of it haha)#not st#doctor's log

hi new followers and friends!!!! just a reminder to have an age in your bio/pinned !
this can be anything from your actual age, a range (20s, thirties, etc), or even the year you were born (i’ll be brave and do the math)
i’m asking for this for my own safety/comfort as well as yours, as i don’t allow nor encourage minors (anyone younger than 18) to interact with me or my work
i will occasionally be going through my followers list and blocking those without a visible age, so please have it updated before interacting with me!
#i love having you all here!!!!! but we also all need to be safe and conscious consumers of media and content#q speaks

Cos I saw someone 'defending' their misuse of the dollblr tag after receiving an ask about it because 'other people do it' - this is why it's a fucking problem in the first place. It is against TOS. It is unrelated to your post, it is spam, and don't be surprised if everything you post gets reported.
Just because other people spam the tag too, doesn't magically excempt it from TOS or user guidelines. Like at this point I am straight up breaking this down to bare bones website operation here, what's so hard to understand? It's shit like this that literally degrades website quality because as you spread your crap over multiple tags that are accumulating like a goddamn snowball, people stop actually using those tags for the topic they were meant for. People stop posting. People leave. Welcome to dead internet.
It doesn't matter if you see other people doing it, rules are rules. There is a reason WHY tag spam is against the rules and that's to keep a website useable. Actual Dollbr-bloggers? Keep reporting guys.
#dollblr cleanup crew#dollblr#i was serious when i said I wake up every morning to pressure hose down tags#also the irony of them claiming people politely asking them to stop are narcissists#my dude ... please look up the definition of narcissistic#'I see what you're saying but actually I'm more important because excuse that doesn't make sense because it's against TOS anyway'#fandom discourse#you're just as bad as pornbots#i am old. i have watched the rise and fall of multiple social media platforms. i have watched the marching progression of enshittification#tumblr is the only social media that doesn't actually make my mental health worse and i will die on this hill#i won't let bad actors ruin everyone else's experience or mine#yeah i could have said this to them directly but 1. I am not the type to do targeted de-anonmyised callouts#2. conscious of the fact a lot of these coquette posters are literally half my age (15) and are minors#2.5 sidenote jesus christ please find a bettee niche than yeeting all your autonomy to men and glorifying your mental illness#your adult self will thank you#3. looking at current replies they got big 'lalala not listening' energy and having my own post means it is unavoidable and not eraseable

Hihihiii
I noticed in your past art its very clean and tidy but your more recent art its pretty loose and explorative in color and shape!! Was it an active journey for you to make that transition or did your style just naturally evolve that way? If it's the former how'd you get over being so clean for a looser style?
Thank you takin' thee time to read this!!!
Hiiii tbqh I think I started loathing the process enough for me to start getting ‘messier’ and less precise with my strokes and color choices if that makes sense 😭 over the past few years I graduated college and got a job which drained the living hell out of my energy, so ig it might have just put me in the mentality of ‘I’m spending way too much time thinking abt this shit’ and then drawing became a lot more fun… and for me that’s what rly matters if it ain’t a comm or something that’s GOTTA be cleaner 🤔
#ask#I’m actually a little self conscious abt my style development😭#I’m happy to have a job but sometimes I feel like what it did to me made my art ‘worse’#if that makes sense#I think some of it is just numbers on Twitter messing w/ me since the site is exploding#but I can’t help but think it’s something to do w/ me too 😭#but also I’m an OC artist on social media…. so what can you do#still grateful for any love my work gets too bc while I don’t rly keep it ‘clean’ anymore#I do put a love of thought and time behind my concepts and comps and designs so it means a lot😭

I do think one of the big confidence boosters is to stop worrying about looking pretty or attractive. If you get ready and just aim to look "cool", you'll feel good about yourself aesthetically a lot more than aiming for arbitrary standards of beauty
#i wanna divulge in how much this goes especially for black women because we only really have 1 standard portrayed in the media#which is the baddie buss down aesthetic#we need more rico nasties and doja cats (4chan shit aside)#and the inbetween aesthetics that aren't necessarily alt but just looking a little “off”#like a Mia Goth#just reminders that we have more options besides being a saweetie#anyway i started feeling hotter when i stopped aiming for the conventional beauty standards and just accepted i can just look cool#not sexy not pretty not hot not cute just#cool style cool hair#i dont have to feel self conscious that i'm not reaching the beauty standards if i don't actually aim for it#like what is the point anyway#mine#beauty standards#dykeposting

honestly it's amazing how sabo is like. everything I've ever wanted out of a character.
revolutionary/freedom fighter trope but is NOT demonized by the narrative for his radical beliefs/actions that are necessary to further his goal of peace because of the nature of the world he exists in. his past dosnt just exist as a half-assed attempt at adding 'nuance' (pity) to his character but directly shows where his ideals and beliefs come from and shape him as a person and it's never something that's ridiculed or downplayed. being a revolutionary is rightfully framed as the sacrifice it is for the greater good and doesnt defult-ly exist in a binary of 'good' or 'bad', but rather shows the difficult but necessary path of societal reform.
#can you tell I'm sick of centrism in media?#sabo is my reward for surviving jet and hama from at//la. scar from fma. sasuke from naruto. Adam and Sienna from rvvby. etcetc#it's so common for revolutionarys to be demonized and framed as 'just as bad' as their oppressors for being reactionary and it makes me#wanna rip my hair out!#and I will call it what it is. conscious or not. copaganda!#one piece isn't a perfect piece of media but I can appreciate how oda is willing to be alot more willing to take stances and explore#complex political and world building ideas#and is majoritively anti authoritarian#sabo ily sm thank you for existing#as much as I love Luffy and look up to him I think my personal ideals line up alot more with him too#psii.txt#text#revolutionary sabo

omg wait yeah a notif tag about the "isopods are cringe" thing just reminded me: you ever see that post on here with an addition where someone shyly tagged it with, "I know possums are "out" but-" what do you mean out they're an animal 😭 don't let people who twist themselves up trying to be unauthentically different to stay on trend make you insecure, none of this matters
#I think a problem this site has is that#despite people who move exclusively in circles of adults insisting this place has no children on it#it absolutely does. social media/blogging platforms have a Huge youth userbase#and sometimes one of those users - still self-conscious about their place in the world#because they're still in a judgemental school environment and that's how people act - will post something like#''lmao ok can we all admit now that [x] was never good''#then it gains traction around all ages. and people who should really know better start going... is this cringe?#oh no I don't want to be cringe! I'd better move onto this new trend instead!#without registering that this is the opinion of a 14-year-old who had a bad day that broke containment#now if this mentality actually originates from an adult that's. embarrassing lmao#(slightly older adults. 20-21 is still acceptable to be a bit like this)#but you shouldn't care about their opinion either. it's exhausting to be someone with an outlook like theirs
