Goldilocks and the Three Bears + mermaid + Barbarian Conqueror + Candyland

Daeron the Good ended the deeply troubling tradition of grooming children into incest. He was a good father to his children. He challenged his own shitty father's crazy schemes. He wed a Dornish princess whom he was a good husband to and did his best to get rid of the anti-Dornish sentiment in the Seven Kingdoms at the time. He kept wise and capable men around to advise him. He treated his bastard half-siblings with respect he didn't even owe them. He did what no Targaryen king before, including Aegon the Conqueror could and brought Dorne into the Seven Kingdoms, not by bloodshed but by diplomacy. He put down a massive rebellion. For 25 years he was king and the realm prospered under his rule. People literally remembered him as "the good".

But sure, Daemon Blackfyre should have been king because he had a cool sword and was a "True Targaryen". Because being a Targaryen king means being a bloodthirsty tyrant who mistreats the people around him and takes only his desires into account when making a move that will affect the lives of thousands. Daeron did everything just right, like no king has done before but still he is glossed over or worse, antagonized because he was simply not "cool enough".

King Daeron II cared, and to some people that is apparently boring.

I swear to God if I see one more goddamn person fancasting Henry Cavill as Aegon the Conqueror I'm burning HBO to the ground. Does anyone know age is? Do people realize Henry is 40? Do people realize Aegon was 25 when he started his Conquest? I realize people only know 3 different male acting stars but try to at least get someone within a decade of the character's actual age.

FYI fellow Elvis fans, The Conqueror has some Elvis themed events right now! The medals are SO cool, check them out!! The little records, OMG!! I signed up for both, there's a bundle deal.

If you haven't done any of Conqueror's events these are basically just virtual races meaning you complete them in your own time at your own pace and then they mail you the finisher's medal upon completion. As you go, you unlock fun things along the way in their app where you track your progress. Any distance based activity counts: running, walking, cycling, swimming, etc. Even just your daily steps count towards it. You can connect up your Fitbit, Garmin, or other tracking watch or app and it will sync automatically every night. They also have a handy conversion tool for non distance based activities like yoga, gym workouts, CrossFit, things like that.

Week(s)-In-Review

Since I was too heavily invested in potato-ing to do this last week, this is technically two weeks worth. 🥔🥔

Watching: is actually REwatching M*A*S*H yet again. -ish?

As in letting it run on the tv in the background a lot. I'm already at Charles! He's such a better foil than Frank ever managed. (Glorious bastard vs snivelling ninny, the glorious bastard always wins.) I did stop and watch Mulcahy's War properly tho, since that's always been one of my favorite episodes. It is also where bb!jilly first learned the word 'tracheotomy' and bb!jilly wanted to be a pathologist when she grew up, so that's a pretty formative influence. Or something?

Adulting: Still enjoying my job, and they don't seem to want to get rid of me, either. 😄 Not so great with non-job to-do list, but whatever. Adulting is hard, no one's dying/starving/injured/fired, so we'll take it.

I finished my first "race" of the year! I don't have my medal yet though, you'll have to wait on that. I'm only averaging about a mile and a half a day which means I'm gonna need to be *over* three miles/day for the rest of the year, but I did the same thing last year, I just suck at January/February so it's not actually that discouraging. (I also lost a bunch of steps because I wasn't wearing my watch while I was shoveling out the driveway when we finally got snow last week, but whatever. 🤣)

Reading: Mermaids & Murder & Toad, oh my!

I liked Into the Drowning Deep more than Rolling in the Deep, but I'm glad I finally tracked down a copy so I could read it, it is very good. If tragic. But I knew that going in.

Adèle from Jane Eyre is an excellent heroine of her own, and for all I do actually adore the original, this is visceral & self-aware in a way I think Bronte would have appreciated, even as it does emphasize different conclusions.

Hey look I've had T. Kingfisher in *every one* of these so far, so are we surprised? No. Is Thornhedge spectacular & somehow adorable even around all the terrible fae violence? Yes. (I should let my mother know I'd like the hardcover for my birthday, since it was a library read. 🎁)

Playing: Cult of the Lamb, to poke around the new Sins of the Flesh update. It's a very silly game, but again, I knew that already 😅😅😅 (Thing 1 got it for me, I'm glad he knows I've put an embarrassing number of hours into it.)

Creating: No writing or podfics or fanmixing, despite the occasional intention for all of the above. However!

Finished my first challenge. I thought I’d do it in 8 weeks but it took me 11. 231 miles. I have 4 more challenges to go but they are between 70-90 miles. They will seem like a piece of cake in comparison.
