Spotlight on: Deep Rising 5.

This piece was inspired by Kelley Jones' work on the Batman versus Vampires trade paperback trilogy - he does some wicked stuff with wingy, capey shapes. That in turn inspired the patterning and layering that went into this dragon's wing design. This one was done mostly with watercolor, though there is some India ink in places. I think there might be a very little bit of colored pencil, but I let the watercolor do most of the work.

This is also one of those project concepts that I want to revisit with my more matured skill set one day. I want to make those implied layers into actual layers (oh ye gods and little fishes, cutting out the pieces is gonna be a bear...), and then mount it over some kind of lenticular paper.
