The way people are talking about Musk's Neuralink FDA trial approval is so frustrating to me. "Oh haha, Musk fanboys are going to get their brains fried!" But that's.... that's just not how FDA trials work. They're not things that perfectly healthy people can sign up for just for fun. FDA drug/medical device trials are for specific health conditions - I'm having a hard time finding which exact conditions Neuralink is approved to have trials for, but all I can see is they intend to treat neurological conditions in general. When you look at people who sign up for trials though it's pretty much just people who are absolutely desperate for a new treatment because what's available isn't working for them - or they have no medical insurance (medical trials usually cover not only the cost of the trial but the continued treatment with the trial drug for X months/years after) and people just desperate for money (many trials offer financial compensation). And it's like.... Sure maybe a handful of those people might be Musk bros, but they aren't going to make up the bulk of the ones killed and maimed by this. It's going to be disabled people in desperate situations, I'm sure many of whom have no idea or only a vague idea of who Musk is.

You know the idea that one of the things the head goes after you being not paying taxes is funny to me especially since (thanks to T corp) we know tax collectors come to exist like do you just need to keep killing tax collectors until the head sighs and sends a walking nuke to your location? Imagine being an Arbiter send to deal with a national law breaker thinking maybe this time you get to torture a Wing that broke their contract with the head, some illegal tech that shouldn't exist or maybe even a human machine and instead it's some crazy fucker with a shotgun who doesn't want to pay taxes id be disappointed (then would blow the guy up)

Production Updates

Submas lanyards should be finishing up production soon!

The pokefish shaker shipped to me not too long ago and I've sent out solo orders! The extras will go up with the preorders this weekend, here's a photo I took (forgive the blur, ghost are haunting and degrading my phone camera).

Production is finished on the submas minky buttons and should be shipping out to me soon, here's a look at the rosy little guys!

And lastly, I've got the Ruina stickerbook in production for a 2nd test prototype! Figured out a bit ago where adjustments were needed + adding a little something to the design. Really looking forward to this one! :D

hi, Julie! I'd never heard about Cariona before, so I decided to go poking around, and I learned something!

well, I learned a few things, actually. from your site, Cariona seems to be a small business that sells reusable menstrual products. and while I will never advertise a product that I haven't used, there's nothing wrong with wanting people to promote your company.

I have, however, found a few problems.

the first thing I found was this post by @crafiet from May 12th of last year, saying that shortly after making a purchase on your website, her debit card info was leaked, and used to make facebook ad purchases.

it seems that at least back then, your payment system was insecure. I'm really hoping you've fixed that, because. yikes.

and when I messaged crafiet to ask if it was okay if I linked to her post, she also mentioned that even though your website says you ship from Georgia, her package came shipped from China, and took a long time to arrive.

that's pretty sketchy.

the next thing I found was some folks talking about receiving cards with their orders that have a QR code on them with the words "Scan For God's Message To You", and that on the other side, have this bible verse:

fun fact! that's from the King James Version (which I have a lot of thoughts about, but I'm not going to get into that right now).

anyway, back to you, Cariona: after seeing people talking about the bible verse cards, I decided to poke around your website more, and allll the way at the bottom of it, finally found your "About Us" page, which ends with this:

...look. there's nothing inherently wrong with being christian. but to say "we do not wish to impose any beliefs on our customers", and to then put bible verse cards in people's orders? that's sneaky, and I don't like it.

I also think it's a bit sneaky that you've flagged your tumblr account as pro-trans on shinigami eyes. at least, I assume you flagged it yourselves, because I didn't find a single post on your blog that mentions trans issues.

and while your website uses very gender-neutral language, your "About Us" page doesn't say anything about being inclusive of trans people, just that you don't "discriminate against anyone who has a different belief than ours."

unfortunately, that's not good enough for me. I have this sneaking suspicion that "trans people are the gender they say they are" counts as a "different belief".

lastly, since you say on your website that people can message you asking about your faith, I had a friend do that!

baptists. you're baptists, which is a pretty conservative denomination.

and according to you, part of that 10% you donate goes to your local churches, and some missionaries. who are also probably baptists.

so.

in the end, I just...don't trust you? I don't trust that the 10% you're donating is going to organizations that aren't homophobic or transphobic. I don't believe that you're not trying to impose your beliefs on others, because that's what you're obviously doing. I mean, your "About Me" says that one of the reasons you built this company is to spread the gospel.

and I especially don't like it that you reached out to me (an openly queer person) for promotion without mentioning that you're an evangelical company.

so to answer your question, Julie: no. I am not interested in doing ads or promotions for you on tumblr. and honestly, you probably picked the wrong website for this kind of thing.

I’m so viscerally upset about how youtube sponsorships these days are coming from actively malicious and harmful companies. Just this week I saw a sponsorship from betterhelp (which has a history of selling patient information) and Opera GX (unsure about GX, but Opera has a history of selling info). Last month I saw a sponsor from Temu (don’t fucking get me started on them) from a YouTuber with a audience of mostly teenagers. I understand YouTubers need to make money and part of that is sponsorship based but just maybe there should be some consideration and research put into the company before accepting the wad of cash and telling people to use malicious software or services. Especially betterhelp. Being sponsored by betterhelp is downright cruel.

Compelling huge, complicit companies, through strategic and context-sensitive boycott and divestment campaigns, to end their complicity in Israeli apartheid and war crimes against Palestinians sends a very powerful message to hundreds of other complicit companies that “your time will come, so get out before it’s too late!” Many of the prohibitively long lists going viral on social media do the exact opposite of this strategic and impactful approach. They include hundreds of companies, many without credible evidence of their connection to Israel’s regime of oppression against Palestinians, making them ineffective.

Consumer boycott targets - The BDS movement calls for a complete boycott of these brands carefully selected due to the company's proven record of complicity in Israeli apartheid. (Siemens, Puma, Carrefour, AXA, Hewlett Packard (HP), SodaStream, Ahava, RE/MAX, Israeli produce in your supermarkets)

Divestment targets - The BDS movement is pressuring governments, institutions and investment funds to exclude and divest from as many complicit companies as practical, especially weapons manufacturers, banks, and companies listed in the UN database of business involved in Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise, as well as the WhoProfits and AFSC Investigate databases of companies enabling the occupation. Below we give some of the targets we are campaigning against. (Elbit Systems, HD Hyundai/Volvo/CAT/JCB, Barclays, CAF, Chevron, HikVision, TKH Security)

Pressure (non-boycott) targets - The BDS movement actively calls for pressure campaigns against these brands and services due to their complicity in Israeli apartheid.
