thinking about Nico adjusting to letting himself miss and long for the people he loves. based on these bits from the sun and the star:

" As Nico and Will followed the trogs, he thought about how much he missed Hazel. He was learning to make peace with that feeling. It was okay for him to miss people because that meant he wanted them around in his life. That idea was *very* new for him- he was used to either pushing people away or watching them recoil from his presence." *

" That was the most surreal thing of all... Was he happy? Nico wasn't very familiar with the sensation, but he couldn't deny that he felt wonderful in Will's presence. #poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #granny wen #a-yuan #It's always fascinating how colours translate from the page to the screen.#It would probably surprise a lot of people to see what some of these comics actually look like in physical form.#My lighter colours takes about 3-4 washes before it shows up on scan which means it tends to ripple the page.#And my yellows and oranges are drastically different colours when scanned compared to the ink colour.#There's about 20 or so comics where everyone's hair is purple - because it scanned in the exact same colour as my light grey.#Wait my book is right here in front of me so I can...yeah...Comics 57-77 were indeed purple.#This is all to say - is it not fascinating how what we see is often not the full truth of what the subject truly is?#Is it not fascinating to open another episode that reminds us that despite everyone's claims they could totally spot the evil YLLZ-#-The man walks around among them for months as no more than a man haggling for deals like the rest.#It's almost as if he's just a person. It's almost as if none of us - no matter what we do are really anything more than just a person.#Your good acts will be overtaken by how other's interpret you in negative light.#Just as easily are people willing to forgive crueler actions if they hold you in high esteem.#But what's real? Is the page I hold the real version of this comic? Is it the one you look at?#Is the man known as Wuxian the most himself when he is alone or on the battlefield?#Perhaps he is and has always been a scared orphan boy lost in the market.#I think there is no good answer to any of these questions.#But I do know that panic rising in WWX as he frantically looks for A-yuan was for more than one boy.#To be human is to have layers around a delicate center. We only really grow around our wounds from childhood.#In other words; Donkey from Shrek would also probably call Wei Wuxian an onion. I'll see myself out now.

Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman sll got colour themed anthologies. Superman got a red and blue series, Batman a Black and White series, and Wonder Woman a Black and Gold series. But... I want to propose we take this a step further. We have four other founding JLA members, after all. And while I'd love to do colour themed stuff for all sorts of characters, let's just start with those four. Here's my pitches:

Flash: Red and Gold. Red and Gold would also work great for a Captain Marvel/Shazam colour based anthology. Both Flash and Captain Marvel pretty much share colour schemes. But I think it would work pretty well in either case. There's so many good shades within these two colours.

Green Lantern: Green and Black. I think these two colours make the most sense. Hal Jordan's uniform is mostly Green, with some Black on it. And a series of comics in Green and Black sounds really pretty, honestly. Really, really pretty visually.

Aquaman: Orange and Blue. I know Aquaman's outfit is usually Orange and Green, but Orange and Blue just sounds like a far better complementary pairing. Aquaman in orange, reflected against the beautiful blues of the ocean? It sounds majestic. It would be perfect for a comic series, in my opinion.

Martian Manhunter: Green and Red. Yeah, J'onn gets the contrasting colours of Red and Green. Red and Green are two colours that complement each other really well (as i believe even basic colour theory touches on), so a comic in shades of Red and Green sounds perfect. Beautiful. So much could be told in these colours.

I could keep going from here, but you get the idea. I've proposed ideas for colour based anthologies with Flash, Captain Marvel/Shazam, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. And as long as there's interesting colour schemes, I can keep going here.

f/f contemporary romance

two cartoonist who’ve been rivals since uni, and now have competing webcomics online, have to work together on the relaunch of a cult classic at the comic press they both work at

they both struggle with art-related physical and mental health issues, and complicated families

#outdrawn #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #sapphic books #I thought this was decent! I liked the concept (even if I got distracted by some art related things…)#and the dynamic between the characters was good. I enjoyed their relationship development broadly speaking #and the emphasis on communication; though it was a quick flip into being together all of a sudden.#The sketchbook doodle flirting was cute. Some interesting exploration of their complicated family situations too.#There’s a lot of exploration of burnout and carpal tunnel and the dangers of artists overworking which I think are important conversations #and are done with some nuance. But it’s pretty much all discussed in the context of the personal pressure they put on themselves #rather than the industry corporate greed and artificial competition created by the comic platform - which are significant in this story!#It felt odd that that connection wasn’t really ever made?#I know that this is a romance and nitpicking the background plot is beside the point and also that I am not a big romance reader #but the premise that the comic hosting site archives everything; wipes the leaderboard; and out of nowhere has a comic competition for #new weekly chapters…I’m sorry but the art world would riot. Even if people enter because they’re desperate for the cash they’d be pissed #People live off the income from their webcomics! if they were erased (temporarily) with no notice…..there would be crimes committed istg #I simply don’t believe that it would be doable to create a new weekly webcomic with no notice while you also have a full-time comic job #(especially as the only stylistic choices mentioned are full-colour) - not to mention what happened to their 8-years-running webcomics #that were archived? they don’t think about them at all after the beginning? surely they’d care about that?#And then with their new comics they make for this competition (after work I guess) we get vague snippets about them but barely anything #- if they’re consuming that much of your time I would expect to feel like they’re thinking about them all the time #rather than the vaguest discussion about genre and cast numbers only.#I guess I just think the whole comic site stunt felt unnecessary for the plot anyway -#it would have worked exactly the same if they were just competing on the normal leaderboard with their normal comics???#anyway - I’m not judging TOO hard about all that because again I know it’s not the point and maybe the industry is like that in some place #Unfortunately it was distracting enough to affect my feelings on the book tho lol.#Lastly: the audiobook………oof. The narrators talk at different speeds; for one.#And Sage’s VA does this deeply weird raspy-anime-teen-boy voice for Noah which is such an odd choice #and doesn’t match her character at all.#unforch my library only had the audiobook (what I usually prefer) so I just had to sort of….translate the narration into a normal voice lol #anyway the romance is good tho
