thinking about Nico adjusting to letting himself miss and long for the people he loves. based on these bits from the sun and the star:
" As Nico and Will followed the trogs, he thought about how much he missed Hazel. He was learning to make peace with that feeling. It was okay for him to miss people because that meant he wanted them around in his life. That idea was *very* new for him- he was used to either pushing people away or watching them recoil from his presence." *
" That was the most surreal thing of all... Was he happy? Nico wasn't very familiar with the sensation, but he couldn't deny that he felt wonderful in Will's presence. He even longed for the son of Apollo when they were apart. A funny thing had happened as the two grew closer: Nico suddenly understood all those cheesy, sappy love songs he'd always hated."

I think it's not so much that Jason chose to "become Greek" as it is that he found that in a lot of ways the way Camp Half-Blood handled things suited him better than the way Camp Jupiter handled things and he made a lot of new friends who belong at Camp Half-Blood and who he wants to spend time with (obligatory "please Rick may we have flashbacks to Nico and Jason eating together and teaming up for capture the flag and all the other things Jason excitedly suggested they do together when Nico said he was staying at Camp Half-Blood in TSatS, I really want to see them being buddies" here). He's still the son of Jupiter, not Zeus; he's just a son of Jupiter who likes hanging out at Camp Half-Blood. Him spending so much time in Camp Half-Blood despite being Roman is like... for lack of a better metaphor, it's like moving to a different country. You're still from your birth country, you just live somewhere else now. (I know it's not the best metaphor, just go with it.) The demigods don't change heritage just because their parents have a dual nature; as an example look at Nico and Hazel. Hades is more associated with death and Pluto is more associated with wealth, and Nico and Hazel's power sets match up to what aspect their father was in when they were conceived.
It is very interesting to me that how the gods respond to the brewing war between the Greek and Roman demigods in different ways depending on how the two sides view them? Like, some of them are completely incapacitated like Athena/Minerva and Nike/Victoria and some of them are... mostly fine, depending on how similar their Greek and Roman counterparts are. My headcanon is that it partially comes down to their children; for example, Hades's son and Pluto's daughter get along fantastically and the other demigods probably aren't calling on Hades/Pluto much during the war, so it makes sense that he can keep control of himself better than gods with a lot of children on both sides.
And I love the idea of Hades sending Nico to Camp Jupiter pre-Last Olympian when it became clear that Camp Half-Blood was in no way a home for him, although that does in some ways make it worse that Nico doesn't fit in at Camp Jupiter either. It would also explain why Nico was... trusted? respected? Hm. Let's go with familiar enough around Camp Jupiter that him bringing Hazel there was accepted as at least not weird enough to get her immediately thrown out, given he can't have brought her there long after Last Olympian. ...Also the idea of Nico hanging out at Camp Jupiter whenever he's not doing all the stuff he does in PJO is very fun, Nico having spent most of his time in PJO just casually knowing one of the biggest secrets the gods have in the modern day is a fantastic image. But it does make sense that Hades probably didn't know about Hera's plan, it's more likely that either Nico was a contingency plan for if the camps ever crossed paths or he had his own plans and Hera just made a move first. (Although side note, I love how as far as I can remember Nico never directly lies to Percy; when Percy says he knows Nico Nico's just like "Do you?" and never actually denies that they've met. Nico's really not a liar, it's fun!)
And yeah, that message is. pretty explicitly about Percy huh. Hard to get that one wrong.
I cannot remembe if I've made the following comments here on Tumblr, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but the way the Romans reacted to Percy was very weird.
Didn't they think all Greeks were dead?
