From a wip in which Ianto is taken hostage and left paralyzed / seemingly unconscious by an alien that feeds on suffering and Jack has to resort to extreme measures to save his life.

“The man you love is dying and that is all you have got to say?  Oh great?”

Stopped clocks and all that but right now Ianto could not agree more with Signore Greb.

Well, the first bit is a little– They are not exactly that, but still.

Unless . . . the Greb is psychic, isn’t it?  Does that mean–?  No.

Huh.

Ianto could keep that secret.  He doesn’t need to hear the words per se.  Just to know it is plenty.

The man Jack loves.  Well.  It has a certain ring to it, it has to be said.

Perhaps he will forgive Jack for his stupid “oh great” after all.

Plot: After “Children of Earth” Jack needs some company. 

Warning: Mentions a bar but direct mention of alcohol. The word “Arse” Mentions of pre-Miracle Day Gwen Cooper.

In a bar out in space, Jack sat alone trying not to think about Torchwood, his grandson or Ianto but drowning his thoughts in alcohol isn’t an option with his abilities. So instead he sits silently and politely rejects anyone who tries to talk him up. A strong hand grabs his shoulder and swings him around, he sees who it is and his face is filled with disdain.

“I’m really not in the mood for you.” Jack then gestures at the bartender that he’s done.

“Too bad you’re in my territory now.” John notices that Jack is avoiding his gaze.

“Then I’ll leave.” Jack pays his tab and walks out of the bar. Following behind him “Hey, just because I”m your ex doesn’t mean you have to be so cold.” John awaits a witty retort but doesn’t receive one as Jack continues to walk away.

 “Where are you going? Back to eye candy and the bikini cops!” Before he could react Jack had John up against a wall with his hands around his throat.

“Now that’s more like it!” John obviously exhilarated by his current position winked at Jack, who instantly let him go to John’s disappointment.

“Come Jack let’s have some fun!”  The irritating time agent baited. In a moment of vulnerability, Harkness mumbled “They’re gone.” With a bewildered look on his face, he asks,

“Who? Bikini Cops?” Jack looks away to hide the pain on his face. “What, All of them?” Harkness takes a deep breath and then responds. “No… Gwen is ok, pregnant actually.”

“So the one that punched me is still alive!” Hart said then immediately regretted it. In fact, his face soon mirrored Jack’s misery. “I’m sorry about your team.” Giving him the quippy retort he craves Harkness responded. “Gwen only punched you because you held her hostage, you deserved it and more.”

The two shared a laugh and left for where John was staying. When they arrived John confessed “I know that I was always a pain in the arse and you’d always put up with me, thank you. Obviously, your team meant a lot, you can stay here as long as you’d like, I won't bother you.”

Captain Harness looked around the room Hart had put him up in, he decided it had an empty and lonely feeling so he turned around “Stay don’t be a pain in my ass” He chuckled.

“Just stay.” Accepting his invitation John runs his hands threw his hair and then held the burly man who practically collapsed into his arms.

“We can talk if you like, I’m not just a shoulder to cry on you know,” Jack chuckles and John feels like he has accomplished his goal of cheering up his friend. Jack’s only response is to kiss John on the cheek.

Hart reciprocates with his lips as well on Jack’s forehead. Those two weeks stuck in a time loop were well spent as Hart seemed to know exactly how to relax Jack.

He seemed to know caressing Jack’s face, massaging his hair and holding him as tightly as he could would make all the loss he’s suffered weigh a little less on his soul.

The captains kissed, cuddled and reminisced about equally chaotic but happier times.

Torchwood: Children of the Earth Day Four (3x04)

Weird question alert.

I was scrolling through Tumblr today and saw your username. I have to ask - are you the Copperbadge? The one who once wrote a Torchwood fanfic called The Theory of Two Centres in 2008?

Last year I went through a really devastating experience and needed some comfort. I cast my mind back and remembered that great fic where Ianto Jones lost his memories. So I started googling to find it, after quite some time (because I couldn't remember what it was called or who wrote it) I eventually found it again.

That fic is THE fic for me. It's stayed with me through the years and it bought me as much joy re-reading it as an adult as it did when I first read it all those years ago.

Anyway I hope that it was you and that you're not too weirded out by some random on Tumblr bringing up your Torchwood fanfic from 16 years ago.

I'm so sorry you had to go through such a stressful and difficult experience, but I'm glad you could find the fic again and take comfort from it. As a writer it's wonderful to hear when I touch someone with my fiction, but especially when it's able to give something.

Lord, 16 years ago. That's too long.

I hope you're in a better place now, and I am not at all weirded out :) I sometimes write to inspire, sometimes to explicate or explore, but I always write as a way of reaching out. I'm so pleased it helped you.

Have not seen the new doctor who episode yet but based on the minor spoilers I’ve seen, I think I will cry like I did as a closeted teenager seeing hope and acceptance for the first time

ranking torchwood members by how nightmarish the blunt rotation would be. number 6 ultimate least worst is gwen but only because i love drama so much and don’t mind comforting people if they cry. any smoke sesh w gwen you’d walk away knowing the funniest most insane interpersonal drama on the planet. three hits in her eyes would already be getting red and she would lean over and say “SWEAR to me you won’t repeat this to anyone, but” gwen babygirl i am all ears. i would roll for you and just sit and watch you smoke it. at #5 honorary mention for suzie. she would find the perfect music for the vibe. she would roll an immaculate joint. the conversation would be heartfelt, pleasant. real.. by the time i realize i’m slowly dying and she’s gaining strength i wouldn’t even care tbh. ideal joint-sharing experience. #4 would be owen because i know that as long as i laughed at his jokes he would smoke me up indefinitely. his delusion that he’s cool and badass would get more embarrassing and apparent when high like mac it’s always sunny levels . and you might have to suffer some hero complex stories but i just know his very cool-looking bong has crystal clear water the second he knows anyone’s coming over. #3 is easily ianto. high chances of bringing a really uncomfortable weird energy to any smoke sesh. i once met a guy who said he’d been practicing rolling joints since he was a kid with paper and pencil shavings and then rolled the joint that fucked me the hardest i’ve ever experienced and that’s what smoking ianto’s shit would be like. except he’s just sitting there looking at you with wet dog eyes the whole time. his vibe would be still weirdly too professional, like the business major who tries to network at house parties. toshiko my lady.. second worst person to smoke with in torchwood not for any awful reason. her jokes would be the funniest out of all of them. her laugh would be enchanting. but you can tell she’s so nervous and trying too hard and the vibe gets more and more awkward and you desperately want to tell her it’s fine but you worry calling attention to it might make her feel worse and you stare at her and she stares at you, takes a beautiful bong rip, and says something so self deprecating you have to look away. the #1 most nightmarish person to share a joint with in torchwood is obviously jack. he pulls out a bag of purple shit, a strain he informs you is called ‘megacock OG’, and loads it into his 23rd century fucking instant vaporizer and promises it’s “got a hell of a kick” and you blink and it’s 20 minutes later and you’re flinching nearly shitting yourself every time his stupid fucking dinosaur swoops overhead ,sweating buckets, and he’s grinning slapping the table laughing opposite you while his genuinely cringeworthy sex stories, seemingly endless, ring in your ears like churchbells.

I'm reading the Children Of Earth scripts and man they had SUCH a cool parallel that they cut out of Children of Earth Day 4.

At the very beginning of the episode, when Clem is reacting to seeing Jack for the first time and points the gun at Jack, he says "You're in every nightmare I've ever had" and in the script Jack responds with "I'm sorry. If I could've taken your place, I would've done."

They cut Jack's line out of the scene, and instead just had Clem shoot him after he says "I'm sorry."

Later, when Ianto is dying in the Thames House, Ianto tells Jack he loves him and then grows too weak to keep his eyes open. Jack says "Stay with me! Stay with me, please!" and in the script, when Ianto opens his eyes again, Jack says "If I could swap places..." but doesn't finish the sentence.

I so wish they'd kept those parallel bits of dialogue in. Just two examples of the absolute futility of Jack's words when it comes to the consequences of his actions. Two examples of the way his immortality ruins both the lives of others around him and his own life. The complete inadequacy of apology and of useless offers of sacrifice, an 'if' that is completely impossible and whose sentiment can't really be considered a comfort.
