the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

As a young librarian, I started trying to figure out why more young people aren't ever coming in; 90% of our demographic are the elderly and parents of children, and the rest are a rough mix of the kids and teenagers who come in just for school projects. As a result, I've been attempting different ways to get the Youth TM to come into libraries, but first I wanted to see why they don't come in. Please reblog to get this poll out to more people! <3

Pop quiz! What do you do when you come home and find a kid in your office who is actually an alternate version of your best friend from another universe who has somehow ended up here via vague hand-wavey undefined circumstances?

I don't know which is funnier... the concept of the receptionist and the perv being the Martin and Jon we know, who got shoved into this world, and they found their counterparts missing, so they assumed their identities and started doing literal role-play therapy... this world's Martin and Jon got sucked into the computers. OR, the receptionist and the perv are the Martin and Jon who are naturally in this world, they have no concept of spooky things, and are instead struggling with a meet-cute that also has problems of professionalism/dating somebody who is seeing the therapist you work for, meanwhile the Martin and Jon we know really did get shoved into the Windows 95 Cyberspace Matrix
this is actually my understanding of the whole thing (assuming that the cameo in ep 17 is indeed a cameo. Personally, I think this IS a jmart cameo but not a plot relevant one)
Tumblr media
It's established that Darrien came from another dimension, meaning the jmart that he encountered are not from the tmp verse. He also doesn't come from the tma verse because the Jon and Martin from his dimension are presumably living in Oxford and have different jobs. What really bugs me is that Darrien gave a statement sometime before 1999 (before the Institute burned down) so he must have also traveled a few years backwards since jmart would still have been in their tweens/early teens at this time.

I have this small, deeply personal headcanon that after his grandmother's passing, Alhaitham's home was so unbearably quiet that he started--just barely, just one or two words--to speak out loud to her as if she was still there.
"I've been accepted to the Akademiya, Grandmother."
"I passed my promotion exams."
"I debated with Haravatat's sage."
Just that, and quiet again.
But one day, it's: "I met someone strange."
"He keeps showing up when I'm trying to study."
"We don't agree on anything. Still..."
"I made a friend."
"Today, Kaveh and I were researching--"
"It's already dark. I didn't realize we spent so long in Razan Garden. Kaveh wanted to hear about my article--"
"He's going to be furious when I tell him the whole point for his portion of the lecture is based on a false predicate--"
The house where his grandmother used to be gets a little louder again; the noise lasts a little longer.
Until one day, when there's no words at all.
One day, when there's just the sound of a single sob, and then a long, long silence.

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

profezia del destino ; a lestappen fic
The evening air warms Charles as much as Max's forehead against his own does. The years of passing touches and longing glances hang in the tiny space between them as Max whispers, "You're a winner, baby. It can be enough, for a little bit."
"I'm a winner, yes. But I'm not your baby," Charles hushes back, nearly coughing over his words; he closes his eyes. He cannot bear to witness the heartbreak in Max, but it doesn't help, not one bit.
a list will be updated here ! :

"the secret to writing the perfect romance is to make them unable to live without the other person"
"the secret to writing the perfect romance is to make one fall first and the other fall harder"
wrong. the secret to writing the perfect romance is to establish them as individual characters first, with their own personal aspirations and fears, before introducing them to eachother so the characters can fall for characters that were actually written to be characters instead of shallowly written to play a part in a romance story.

god i know i said i was tired of making eveerything sad but just imagine timber those first few months of reconnecting and they're both drunk on tim's boat, laying on the deck staring up at the stars and bear turns over to look at tim, his eyes are sad and wet, and he reaches out to touch tim's face as if to make sure tim is really there and not an illusion and tim whispers, "bear?" and bernard smiles a little brokenly and goes, "so how long do i have you for this time?"
