HEADCANONS
ok i was talking with a friend and AN IDEA CAME TO ME.
so when mexican soldiers were marching through the winter to get to the alamo, they experienced snow/winter for the first time—most didn’t know what snow even WAS. it wasn’t snowing at the ALAMO though….
so my thought:
what if travis, bowie, AND crockett all experienced snow together for the first time? 🙁🙁💔💔
now that i think about it chances of crockett possibly seeing snow were probably high, but in more southern states like where bowie lived it wasn’t as common! anyways yeah i gotta draw this soon bcs i need my guys having a cup of hot cocoa (and not whiskey) over a fireplace while it snows 🔥🔥 or a snowball fight bowie would absolutely annihilate travis

I Am A Texan
In honor of Texas Independence Day and the fall of The Alamo, I am bringing this post back to life. If I had a recent picture of myself in a Stetson or a nice straw hat, I would include it, but sadly, this picture is it. I don’t take selfies, only a few since the invention of such a silly thing. I looked for my coonskin Davy Crockett cap, which would have added to the story, but I believe my…

Ozzel had ordered him down to the planet’s surface in order to facilitate the loading and retreat of the army and its equipment. He was rather certain that there ought to be smoother communication and collaboration between the army and the navy for something like this, but as he was only two months into his assignment on Executor, straight from being recruited out of the Axxilan fleet, he didn’t know all the history.
And choosing him of all people to organize a rather gargantuan task, was just another way for the Admiral to see if he could crush Piett.
He tilted his chin.
Not likely. The galaxy had been an unforgiving and challenging place before this assignment—Ozzel wasn’t special.

☞Remember the Alamo!
☞Today in Texas History -- On today’s date 213 years ago, Tuesday, August 1, 1809, famous 19th-Century American lawyer & soldier Colonel William Barret “Buck” Travis (1809-1836), hero of the Texas Revolution, was born on the Travis plantation at Red Bank, which is in present-day Saluda County, South Carolina. Some sources state that Travis was born on August 9, but August 1 is the date that is reported to have been recorded in the Travis family Bible, & that is considered correct by most historians.
☞Travis is best-remembered nowadays as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Texian Army during the Texas Revolutionary War. Colonel Travis was leader of both the Regular-Army & the Volunteer Militia forces who defended the Alamo against an overwhelming Méxican Army.
☞One of most famous incidents in the life of Colonel Travis concerns the “Line in the Sand” at the Alamo. In the waning days of the Siege of the Alamo, with Méxican General Antonio López de Santa Anna (1794-1876) having the Alamo completely surrounded, Santa Anna sent a messenger to Travis demanding surrender, or else everyone in the compound would be killed. According to the legend, Travis called the Alamo defenders together, explaining that defeat was almost certain, & he read Santa Anna’s surrender demand. Travis then drew his sword & scratched a line in the sand, asking for volunteers to cross over the line & join him, with the understanding that their decision would be irreversible. The legend states that all but one of the Alamo defenders joined Travis on his side of the line. Moses Rose was the only defender who did not cross the line & who left the compound. Travis then responded to Santa Anna’s letter with cannon fire, whereupon Santa Anna replied by having his brass band play “El Degüello.”
☞During the early morning hours of March 6, 1836, William B. Travis became a martyr to the cause of Liberty when he met his earthly demise at the age of 26 along with more than 180 other Alamo defenders who were killed during the fateful Battle of the Alamo.
☞The photograph depicts an undated Victorian-Era cabinet-card photograph of a painted portrait of Colonel William Barret Travis by noted American artist Henry Arthur McArdle (1836-1908).

Hunters
Overview/plot of the pilot episode
Tumblr media
The 2020 television series, Hunters, follows a group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York. This group of people have discovered that Nazi’s who had fled to the United States following WWII have infiltrated different parts of New York and other parts of the U.S. in hopes of establishing a Fourth Reich in which they continue the mass genocide of the Jewish population. In the opening scene of the first episode, the viewer sees Biff Simpson hosting a barbecue at his home. When one of the guests begins to panic upon recognizing him as a Nazi, he kills everyone in attendance, including his own family. When speaking to neo-Nazi, Travis Leich, he explains that he had to do this to protect their plan. Meanwhile, we are introduced to Jonah Heidelbaum, a young-adult codebreaker residing in Brooklyn. In the first episode, he witnesses his grandmother shot to death in their home by someone who criticizes her for “thinking she could escape.” Following this, he meets Meyer Offerman at her funeral, who claims to have been in Auschwitz with her. In an attempt to avenge her death, Jonah is almost killed by the former Auschwitz guard that murdered his grandmother, only to be saved at the last minute by Offerman. It is then that he discovers and is introduced to “the hunters,” a group of people with whom his grandmother had been working with prior to her death.
While all of this is happening, Millie Morris is an FBI agent who is investigating the death of a NASA chemist, Gretel Fischer, who was gassed in her shower. She later uncovers a photo of Fischer shaking Hitler’s hand, and it is revealed that she was a Nazi chemist who was killed by one of the hunters. At the end of the episode, Travis Leich meets with a woman known to be “The Colonel.” They both salute Hitler and declare the beginning of the Fourth Reich.
What is the koinos kosmos (common world) and mutually assumed knowledge the series shares with viewers?
The koinos kosmos (common world) depicted in the series is largely seen through the depiction of the Nazi regime through flashbacks to concentration camps and the brutal destruction and murder that was carried out during the war. These scenes are based on real events and adhere to the historical accuracy of the camps and the Third Reich in Germany. The Nazi’s that we see in the first episode continue to spread their values, making disparaging references and comments to the common person. One example of this is when Travis Leich explains to a Black girl doing laundry that she needs to separate the colors from the whites with a smirk after he sees her gaze linger on the swastika tattoo on his back. This alludes to the Nazi’s idea of cleansing in order to maintain their view of a “perfect race,” which they called the Aryan race. Similarly, the frequent anti-semitic ideology displayed post war in the series is also not a part of the alternative history, as these ideas continued to be very prevalent and remain that way today. A frequent issue in the show is the inability to involve the police, as Offerman affirms multiple times that they would not care enough about the escaped Nazi’s to help the group.
How does the series depict cultural hybridity through the altered history’s role in reflecting and reshaping cultural assumptions?
Tumblr media
The main way that the series depicts cultural hybridity through the altered history’s role is by giving the Jewish population a voice and large scale representation. There are many historical movies, books, and television shows based on the Holocaust, such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, but there are very few that alter history to allow them to form a group such as the hunters. This gives them the ability to fight back in a post war society, in an attempt to fully rid the world of the Nazis that still infiltrate it. The show creates a plotline in which there are two sides in their own war, as the hunters seek out the escaped Nazis. Once the Nazis learn that people are onto them, they begin to do the same. In the first episode, Meyor Offerman gives Jonah and the rest of the group a speech that sheds light on their stance and ultimate goal. This monologue is empowering and truly solidifies the group as the heroes of the story.
Tumblr media
How does the series depict the power of understanding world-creation?
The series depicts the power of understanding world-creation primarily through the character of Jonah and themes of “found family.” Initially, we see his life filled with emptiness, as he sells drugs for money in an attempt to feed himself and his grandmother before her death. Following her death, he uncovers a box in her drawer, which has letters and pieces of the life she led after being kept in concentration camps. Through flashbacks, the viewer is able to see her bond with Offerman form and the foundation of the group that she created post-war. This brings Jonah to his sort of destiny in a way, allowing him to continue the work that she was doing to rid the United States of the escaped Nazis, which in itself is the alternate history that the series establishes.
Tumblr media
In what ways do formulations of the past, present, and future engage with prospective realities of what might have been and what might be in the series’ alerted history?
The series uses flashbacks to formulate a historically accurate image of the past, aside from Jonah’s grandmother’s storyline with fellow prisoners and guards of Auschwitz. The flashbacks range from when Nazis first invaded, tearing individuals from their homes, in which Ruth Heidelbaum affirms that “they wanted to kill us for just being ourselves,” in a narration over the flashback. Throughout the first season, there are many of these brutal flashbacks of each group member’s life during the war, including the intense trauma and loss. The Nazis maintain their brutality and show of no mercy, treating the Jewish population, as well as all minorities, as anything other than human.
Tumblr media
The present day world in the series is 1977 New York, in which WWII itself has ended, and many have taken a very relaxed, pro-American stance. Many individuals throughout the series are shocked to learn that there are thousands of Nazis living under aliases in the U.S., and many (mostly members of the government) have grown comfortable with this fact, describing it as almost inevitable. I feel that the show as a whole serves as a reminder that hatred, as well as discriminative and stereotypical ideology is upheld by those that believe in it. This evil is found everywhere in the series, even when character’s least expect it. I think this alludes to our modern day society and that often, those that we look up to and those that hold positions of power, are corrupt and power driven.
Tumblr media
How do multiple realities or contemplations of multiple realities merge with questions of authenticity?
It is very much necessary to note that the show was criticized, including for one scene at Auschwitz in particular, in which the series showed a murderous, human game of chess take place. Chess is a recurring motif in the show, and this scene was completely fiction and established for the sake of the plot. However, its creation did not land, and it put the show under fire by the Auschwitz museum itself and many other viewers that found it unnecessary and extremely uncomfortable and offensive. This is one example of the ways that the multiple realities depicted in the show, those that are meant to be altered and those that are meant to be historically accurate were not able to mix properly, questioning authenticity.

“It used to be a health resort,” Jordy said. “Back in the old days, people thought hot springs would cure anything, y’know, so rich people’d come out here and stay for a couple weeks. Then it went outta business in the ‘30s and the Colonel—that’s Travis’ great-grandpa—bought it for cheap.”
Melanie let him ramble. She’d been fishing for information about the Barretts and their ‘citadel’ all the way up, and Jordy had been the most eager to provide it. It also gave him a chance to share her seat, inching closer with each curve of I-75 until his arm was around her shoulder. Melanie didn’t mind. She kind of liked how corny it was. She’d seen it on TV a hundred times, now a boy was trying it on her in real life. She’d seen fake girlfriends turn into real ones on TV too. Maybe she’d try that one on him.
Everyone onboard knew they weren’t actually dating, so he didn’t need to maintain the illusion. But he wanted to. And she wanted him to. He’d turned on the charm, and it worked, and she’d resent it if he wasn’t so…well, charming. Did she really like him? The way he liked her? She couldn’t say. She didn’t want to ask herself yet.
Her spirits dampened slightly when she got a full view of the next week’s lodgings. “People live here?” She blurted out.
“Yeah, it’s…it ain’t the prettiest,” Jordy admitted. “When the Colonel bought it he bulldozed the whole thing, rebuilt it like this. Wards are stronger when there ain’t any fancy shit gettin’ in the way, he said.”
The Wards here must have been very strong, as the Citadel was a solid block of gray cement, broken up only by plain glass windows. The foggy valleys and narrow, rocky gorges they’d driven through to get here put Melanie in mind of some fairytale castle, but it looked like a Siberian prison at best, a nuclear waste dump at worst. There were several cars and buses parked haphazardly in the front lawn, and the hot springs bubbled away in the back, with their sharp chalky smell.
“Only Travis’ great-aunt lives here, and two of her kids,” Fawn said. “The top floors are for guests, and during Equinox, all the high school delegations have to stay on-site. It’s in the contract. ‘Cause killing Halfmires is fine, but god forbid we stay in Knoxville and party with college kids.”
“Fawn, you ain’t partyin’ either way, come on,” Jordy said. “Hey, looks like the AEGIS bus is here. You gonna room with that Dutch girl again?”
“Trudi? Hope so. You’ll like her, Mel, she’s awesome.”
“Wait, Dutch? Some kids flew here from the Netherlands?”
“Switzerland, actually.” Fawn said. “About 30 years ago a lot of the old European Warden schools put their funds together and built a new boarding school in Geneva. AEGIS stands for something in French, I forget what. The other two schools sending student reps are St. George’s in Memphis, and Wallenbrook in Pennsylvania.”
“Well, they all sound…fancy.” She suddenly wished she wore something other than old jeans and a Kahoti Knights sweatshirt.
“The AEGIS kids are pretty cool. All Americans are the same to them, I guess.” Fawn said. “The others, though, yeah, we’re trashy new money to them. Especially the Georgies. Your grandpa’s been gnawing off bits of their Gulf Coast territory for years and they hate him for it. Well, too bad, guys, it’s not the 1800s anymore.”

Afterparty check in! Only two episodes left… how you feeling?
Ah definitely a mixture of excitement and 'what am I gonna do with my Wednesdays when this show ends'.
I've had a lot of fun with this season because I watched the first season like a month ago, by myself in the span of a couple of days, and I didn't really pick up on any clues. Having the community around me for this season has both been really fun and very helpful; I wouldn't have any theories whatsoever without the Reddit and the fandom on here.
My main theory at the moment is that everyone looks so suspicious because a lot of them tried to kill Edgar, but only one person was actually successful in killing him. I've flip-flopped on the idea that Ulysses accidentally poisoned Edgar instead of Feng because Reddit's changed its mind about that now. After that, I'm kind of suspicious of Travis at the moment because of how much he wanted to sit in on the videos. Someone I've pretty much crossed off my list is Feng because- my friend made this pretty good point- if he was going to kill Edgar, why would he film it?
I'm fairly certain that, in the next episode, Isabel will accuse the wrong person and then the Vivan/Zoe episode will reveal who actually did kill Edgar. If my 'multiple attempts' theory is correct, I think it could be revealed in either of the episodes. With this theory, though, I must stress that I genuinely have no clue and I'm looking at this from a 'this would be cool from a storytelling point of view', and this would be the perfect way for the writers to make things more tricky after the last season like they intended.
I'm really excited for Isabel's episode because I'm pretty sure it'll reveal some kind of manipulative relationship between her and Edgar, possibly with him drugging her; again my friend had this really good idea that Edgar could have been insistent on Isabel eating the cake because it had some kind of drug in it. I feel like the whole manipulating and/or drugging thing would fit really well with the suspense genre they're going with. Not to mention the scene with Edgar and Isabel at the wedding with him insisting that they'll eat the cake was sinister and chilling as fuck.
Also, I'm expecting more Sebastian and Hannah in Isabel's episode than we've had in the past few, since they're more related to Isabel than they are Danner (of course), Ulysses and Feng.
I also think that since Vivian and Zoe's episode will be a soap opera, it'll have some dramatic reveals, which will be really cool for a finale.
I'm prepared for anyone to be the killer at this point- obviously anyone apart from Aniq (the spitter), Kyler (the skater), the Auntie (the snorer) or Colonel.
Part of me really wants Hannah and Grace to be able to run off into the sunset together, but I also would love some sapphic angst to destroy the rest of my year. By the way, I was so happy when Grace said that she thinks she's in love with Hannah. I'm looking forward to seeing what Hannah hid from Aniq and Danner (as referenced in the Sebastian episode, I believe?)
If anyone has any theories and/or wants to chat about this show, feel free to comment, reblog, DM me or add me on Discord (my tag is mxpiggy).

Colonel Juan Seguin’s speech at the burial of the defenders of the Alamo:
"Companions in Arms!! These remains which we have the honor of carrying on our shoulders are those of the valiant heroes who died in the Alamo. Yes, my friends, they preferred to die a thousand times rather than submit themselves to the tyrant's yoke. What a brilliant example! Deserving of being noted in the pages of history. The spirit of liberty appears to be looking out from its elevated throne with its pleasing mien and point to us saying: "There are your brothers, Travis, Bowie, Crockett, and others whose valor places them in the rank of my heroes." Yes soldiers and fellow citizens, these are the worthy beings who, by the twists of fate, during the present campaign delivered their bodies to the ferocity of their enemies; who, barbarously treated as beasts, were bound by their feet and dragged to this spot, where they were reduced to ashes. The venerable remains of our worth companions as witnesses, I invite you to declare to the entire world, "Texas shall be free and independent or we shall perish in glorious combat."

ALAMOMENT
wow i’m already back, anyways MoRE ALAMOMENT
this one’s kind of bittersweet, actually
it was said that travis took a black-cat eye ring from his own hand and thread it through a string, then tied it around 14-month old angelina dickinson’s neck. angelina was the infant of susannah and almeron dickinson, both very well known—suzanna for being an alamo survivor and almeron for being a defender. anyways—it’s bittersweet since at the time that travis had decided to LEAVE his pregnant wife and son, she had their baby girl, and he’d never get to meet her. suzanna told travis she’d make sure the ring made it to his son, charles, but he never ended up getting it.
Tumblr media
fun fact: it’s hard to catch, but the first scene we ever see travis in in the alamo (2004), you can see he wears said ring on his pinky finger! another addition to this fact is the original HAS been found!
the ring was passed on from angelina to her husband, who then presented it to his commanding officer in the civil war. from there, the ring was passed down for years, to when it was eventually donated to the alamo.

The Afterparty: Vivían & Zoë
How are you fellow sleuths doing now that the mystery has been solved? I’ll miss the weekly theories and fun but I can’t wait to see how they’ll up the theatrics and clues in season three. Now that the mystery is solved here are my takeaways from the episode.
SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHO KILLED EDGAR MINNOWS
This episode was full of laughs, drama, and new beginnings and I enjoyed all 31 minutes of it. They surprisingly fit a lot into this episode so I'm going to break it down into parts:
Lights, Cameras, Action!
Tumblr media
Someone on Reddit said they wanted to see S3 be an afterparty for a film adaptation of Xavier's murder and it looks like we're getting just that! Seeing Keke Palmer show up had me screaming internally! She's going to be a perfect Danner and I need season 3 now so I can see her mind movie. Also Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe too?! Like they better give this show all the budget money because they're about to sweep award season. I hope they do get Alia Shawkat to play Chelsea like someone suggested since it's been joked about already that she and Ilana Glazer look alike (I personally don't see it though).
"Fetch that, bitch!"
Tumblr media
Zoë fighting Colonel and throwing him out the window took me out! The way she was spinning him around and etc and that whole encounter being a horror story was brilliant. And the fact that he survived by landing on Isabel's trampoline?! He really is a hellhound! I love how someone just had that theory earlier that Edgar mentioning a devil was a response to looking out the window and seeing Colonel bouncing lmao.
Travis Becoming the House
Tumblr media
Travis beating Sebastian at his own game was so rewarding to watch. The big theories floating around were that he either recorded the confession and sent it to the police or that he was secretly an investigator, but I really like this ending. Now he got back the money lost and in my mind, he took a trip to meet Weronika in person and they hit it off.
Love is in the Air
Tumblr media
Happily Ever Aster, indeed! Aniq and Zoë both proposing to each other was so cute and I love how she was the one who proposed first. I don't know if the rings were meant to show the engagement was still on or if they've already married, but I personally don't care to see a wedding between the two. I'd rather hear they had a great ceremony that was drama free and keep it moving. Hannah and Grace living happily ever after is so sweet because we all know how tv writers love to kill their gays or find some other way of ruining their ending. I need them to show up in a future season happy with a quirky little Wednesday Addams type of baby please! And last but not least, Vivian and Feng. You can tell that they both really love each other and I love that not once in the season did we see Feng holding the affair over her head. Like they're really ride or die for each other and I love that for them. And now that Feng's fees are cleared, they can travel and see the world together since they weren't able to before when Vivian danced with Ulysses. Speaking of Ulysses:
Ulysses Killed Edgar
Tumblr media
I didn't want to believe it was him because it really did seem too obvious, but that's the same thing that happened with fans last season right? Although last season I did guess Yasper and that was me watching without knowing of any clues or that the subreddit existed (and I watched it like a week before season 2 so there's that). So everything was exactly as a majority of redditors theorized:
-He brewed the tea during the extremely long shower in Aniq's mind movie
-The whiskey glass was poisoned and accidentally swapped when Feng had Edgar taste the baobing; So Feng being high on adderall in the found footage video was correct
-It did all come down to Ulysses wanting Feng out of the way so he could be with Vivian
-He is delusional as all get out which does mirror Yasper's delusional story in S1
-When he ran to Feng and Vivian's room he expected to find Feng dead hence the shocked expression
-He had a knowledge of the devil's trumpet from his work as a shaman
What was missed was that Grace said she hated whiskey in episode 2 and he was swabbing a whiskey glass in his mind movie so that went right over our heads
Danner said he knew Grace wasn't his daughter so I applaud the writers on fooling me bc I spent the whole season thinking there was a paternity thing going on and nope, just Ulysses being a delusional buncle who is now headed for prison!
I find it so funny though that even though I changed my mind on who the killer was, I still figured out that he was sus because of the koumiss. But I'm a bit confused now bc he gave Travis the koumiss infused dutch babies but he used his horn to brew the tea so where did he store the rest of the koumiss? Did he have two horns? Because he tried to stop Vivian from drinking from it but this was after the days' events played out Does anyone know?
The End
Tumblr media
All in all, this was an amazing season and I had so much fun sharing theories with you all and getting to talk about the show weekly. Season 3 is about to be off the chain so when the time comes we've got to More Horse it up! See you all then!

Veers turned, and was not completely surprised to see General Skywalker approaching with purpose. He too straightened and saluted.
“General,” he said calmly. “What—”
“Follow me, Veers,” Skywalker ordered curtly. “We’re on a time crunch.”
Veers blinked, but was not one to stand gaping like a gorm fish.
“Travis, take over,” he said, striding to catch up with Skywalker who was headed toward the nearest lift.
Once they entered, the General met his inquiring gaze, blue eyes intense.
“We’re going off ship,” he said curtly. “We need to meet with some contacts and there is only a short window of time to do so. Pack a kit for several days, Colonel. Speak to no one about this and meet me in hangar 12.”
“Yes, sir,” Veers answered, brain whirling.

Guess who's still liveblogging Disco Elysium? (Spoilers)
Played through Day 4/Thursday today.
Feel like I got some things done. I got my gun back from The Pigs, I'm now fully in both Evrart and Joyce's confidences (well, I think... more on that in a sec), AND I reported Victor Mejean's death to his wife.
Actually, I'm a bit miffed about that. I made the mistake of talking to her before poking around and, although the conversation went really well, now I can't get back in there to investigate. Harrumph.
I was trying to use Rhetoric to open the shipping container near Evrart's office. He alluded to there being something interesting in there and there's a reason I'm able to keep messing with it. Kim asked me why I'm talking to it and one of the options was "Because using my body wasn't an option!" which it literally wasn't. I dunno, I feel on the hunt for little wall-breaks like that now, after the reflections in the previous post.
Cuno's whole scene re: the locusts... something is going on with that kid, with the whole "I made myself Cuno, I can make myself something else" bit. But I can't yet pass the check to find out what. At first it seemed like Cunoesse was just kind of following him, but after her little display... I'm not sure what her deal is either.
Joyce had a LOT of fucking interesting things to say. It was almost kind of too much to digest. But the two bits that have my ears perked are 1) Revachol being a place where all the ideologies converge to "resolve" history, and 2) the entire concept of "the pale." Both of those things reinforce the possibility that this is some kind of... what? Game? (Which it literally is, so there's that.) Computer simulation? Something like that. I'm not POSITIVE that's what's going on, but I feel strongly (at least for now) that something like that is an element of it. But she also said some people think of it as the concentrated past or something, and I’m not sure what to make of that part. It’s something working in layers.
Anyway, there's something about Joyce. She seems really cooperative and forthcoming, but I can't shake the feeling there's something she's not telling me.
I think it was when I was talking to her that I passed an Espirit du Corps check, where some people were talking about Harry and how he lost his mind. What is the Valley of the Dogs? What did they mean "we always do?"
I dunno, I have more information now, but I don't feel like I've significantly advanced any of the three major mysteries (reality, Harry, the murder). It's clear the game still has some stuff in store, though. I like the check in the window behind Travis that currently has a debuff: "-12: it's not time yet." Like, ooh, what's that gonna be?
Also, Joyce was giving me a history/economics lesson and said something like "the years '08 to '19 were hell" and like... yeah, okay. Those weren't chosen randomly, were they?
I feel like I'm sort of out of clear leads at this point. I wanna advance Soona's project, but I cannot figure out how to get through to Egghead. I have tried every branching dialogue option I could. He says "we're close" but it doesn't feel like it. But I guess we'll see what new developments the new day brings.
Also, what's with the two "cops" that just showed up in the Whirling? Like, that's (the latest in a weird series of incidences which seem to establish) a similarity between Harry and the dead colonel--two companions, a man and a woman. I know at least the male mercenary is someone else--the scab guy, I talked to him (that was fun), but I don't know who exactly they are and it feels like there's some intentional parallelism there.
Oh, and what role does Cindy have to play in this yet? Pissf****t and Fuck the World appeared, so that leads me to believe the Skulls are going to factor into this somehow in the coming days. I guess we'll see.
Onward and forward, I suppose.
