Okay so, I have a little problem with Colin

Now wait, guys, no, don't kill me. Let me make my case.

Now, what I meant, I don't have a problem with Colin himself. Like at all. I have nothing against him whatsoever. I mean like, I love him to death. He's one of the most lovable and likable human beings I've ever stumbled upon. He's truly amazing and I love him. But here's my issue. I absolutely hate every character he has played. With the exception of Killian and Brennan. And here's why.

Now my problem isn't with Colin's acting itself, he's an amazing actor and from there I stand, he plays each one of his characters to the best of his abilities. My problem is with the characters themselves. Each character he has ever played just doesn't do it for me. They're either plain boring and underdeveloped, an asshole, an underdeveloped asshole, or an underdeveloped creepy asshole. They're all assholes basically. Again, with the exception of Killian. Who to this day is the only one of Colin's characters I truly loved and enjoyed watching. And even he was an asshole for a while but I'll get to that.

First we got Peter from what still remains. Awful guy. He was an entitled, religious asshole who thought he was God's chosen or whatever so that gave him the right to be the way he was (he did go through some shit which I somewhat talked about in my last post but that's beside the point) He tried to force himself on to the female lead, twice. That on it's own makes him an awful guy, Colin or not. He was also insanely underdeveloped. Like we knew nothing about him. Sure, we did kind of see how he slowly revealed his true intentions and his true face as the movie progressed. That's somewhat development considering we saw his character go from nice and caring to well, pervy borderline rapey priest guy. Colin's acting was pretty good ngl. He played Peter's character amazingly as he does. I feel like it was more so the writer's fault for making such shitty screenplay and Colin just so happened to play a shitty character. Still, Colin or not, Peter was still an awful character and it was so hard to watch him for 90 minutes. Like, you might be pretty and I might or might not want to fuck you, but that doesn't save you from being an awful character. Still, out of all of Colin's characters (other than Killian) Peter is the only one that actually stands out to me. That might be biased but that's just how I see it.

Next is professor Harrison from that one movie nobody cares about. We literally got nothing out of it his character other than the fact that he was an entitled asshole Professor who fucked his student. He wasn't even a main character either, he was just there to be an arse for no reason. I honestly had this weird vibe from the very beginning. Like I knew he was supposed to be a professor but I didn't know how exactly his character was supposed to be. And yet I just knew I was gonna hate his character with a burning passion. And unlike Peter, he doesn't stand out much, he was just another of many assholes in movies. Nothing new.

Then there's that Mark guy from storage 24. He was there just to be there. Again, boring nothing character that was just there to make up a cast in a nameless movie. Nothing to remark and it's nothing that stands out.

And then, there's Brennan. And here's the thing, I actually liked Brennan. He was a genuine sweetheart. And all he wanted was to be with the woman he loved. She was the asshole, not him. But, my point still remains, he wasn't all that memorable, nothing about him really stood out to me other than the fact that A) Colin played him. And B) he was a musician. But honestly, if he wasn't played by Colin, I probably wouldn't even bother to remember him and that just shows that Brennan wasn't all that memorable (for me at least) He was just another cliche hopeless romantic musician who wanted to be with the woman he loved. Just not memorable, its something we've all seen a million times. Just like the movie itself. The movie itself was pretty mediocre to be completely honest. Again, Colin's acting was great. His singing was absolutely amazing, and we got some shirtless shots and that's always something to remark. He worked with what he got the best he could, but what he got just so happened to be shitty screenplay so he got another forgettable character.

Now, on to Killian. This is 100% biased. I have literally nothing bad to say about Killian. Sure, he was this entitled asshole who thought he ruled the world. He cared about no one other than himself. He was super selfish and plain heartless. But Colin did it in a way that he was likeable even when he wasn't supposed to be. Like, you actually loved the guy and you could even sympathize with the guy. Something I personally couldn't do with anyone of the other characters. We also got A LOT of development for Killian. We saw why he became a pirate, why he was so blinded by revenge, etc. We saw that he didn't come from a place of innate malice. And it was actually explained how that evilness came to be. Unlike Colin's other characters, who were assholes just to he assholes and we weren't exactly explained why they were assholes. I'm probably pulling at strings here since I am comparing a character from a show, who had 4 seasons worth of change and development to characters who we saw for less than 90 minutes each.

But, there's a reason Killian stands out to me and the rest don't. There's a reason I grew to like his character more and more. I don't know what that something is. Idk if it's just that Colin played Killian differently, or if the writers actually did something good writing Killian's character. I really don't know. But I just simply love Killian and I hate/don't like Colin's other characters.

This could be due to a number of things, not just because they're assholes. You can absolutely love an asshole character or an antagonist. But I just don't see any likeability in any of his other characters.

I absolutely love Colin, as I said he's absolutely amazing, he's ridiculously talented both acting wise and musically wise. He's ridiculously handsome. He's ridiculously sweet. And I don't know how you wouldn't love someone like him. But I just can't get through his characters. And I really wish I did. Maybe in the future he'll play much likeable characters. Because he truly deserves to be recognized and have genuinely good starring roles in genuinely good films.
