What Would They Name Their Children? (Headcanons)
2012!Turtles
A/N: Fun fact, my great grandmother was named after Olga of Kyiv. And another fun fact, my grandparents met each other at Niels Bohr institut in Copenhagen.
Warnings: None💚
Leonardo:
Leo would want to honor his Japanese heritage, in the memory of his father. With a great knowledge of not just Japanese culture and language, but mythology and history, Leo would have more than just a few name ideas for his future children. His future partner may very well have to keep him in check, helping him sort through the all.
For Boys:
Kenji, meaning either “strong and vigorous” or “intelligent second son” in Japanese.
Asahi, meaning “morning sun”, “rising sun” or “sunrise” in Japanese.
Kangiten, the Japanese god of bliss.
For Girls:
Haru, meaning “springtime” in Japanese.
Sanyu, meaning “happiness” in Japanese.
Amaterasu, the name of the Shinto goddess of the sun.
Raphael:
Raph likes strong names. Names that make people think of strong warriors and brave leaders. For that to happen, it needs to be names that most people would know, and be able to recognize with at least a little ease. It won’t work if Raph chose a name no one had heard of before.
For Boys:
Thor, after the Norse god of thunder.
Zeus, after the Greek god of lightning and king of the gods.
Anu, also known as the Sky Father and the King of Gods in ancient Mesopotamia.
For Girls:
Boudicca, after the queen of the Iceni tribe, who led the rebellion against the Roman forces that invaded Britain.
Olga, after Olga of Kyiv, who avenged the murder of her husband at the hands of the Drevlians, while protecting her son.
Lagertha, after the Norse shieldmaiden from Norway.
Donatello:
It would be no surprise to anyone, that Donnie would name his children after some of the great minds that he found himself looking up to. Just like Leo, Donnie would have so many names lined up and ready to go, that his future partner would have to help him sort them all through, before setting on the ones that they would find fitting.
For Boys:
Charles, after Charles Darwin.
Deodatta, after Deodatta V. Shenai-Khatkhate.
Niels, after Niels Bohr.
For Girls:
Rosalind, after Rosalind Franklin.
Barbara, after Barbara McClintock.
Emilie, after Emilie du Chatelet.
Michelangelo:
The names Mikey has lined up for his future children, changes quite a bit in reasoning. Some of them mean something to him, in the sense that he finds the meaning of the name very important. Others are important to him, due to pop culture or, well, food. A simple man with simple thoughts I guess.
For Boys:
Keanu, because of Keanu Reeves of course. Duh.
Ace, from Latin, meaning “one”, “someone who excels” or someone of a high rank.
Bodhi, a Sanskrit name meaning “enlightenment” or “awakening”.
For Girls:
Cherry, which both could be referring to a meaning of “dear one”, but also the fruit.
Clementine, meaning everything from “merciful”, “gentle” and “mild” to the small citrus fruit.
Éowyn, because of Lord Of The Rings, of course.

@zelinktines23 Day 17: Fruits
There is something inherently, quietly loving in a sliced apple, in fruit freshly peeled and shared. A task so simple, so unnecessary, but one that shows such tender care, through time.
Thinking also of the poems about peeling clementines for people, and how Clementia is the name of a Roman goddess of forgiveness. Love as an offering; this act says "forgive me, I love you"

Eve and Aphrodite are not the problem
I'm just going to put this out there as a mother and a woman, and I can't just stay silent because my feelings are hurt over this whole debacle...
Both Eve from Stellar Blade and Aphrodite from the upcoming Hades II are beautiful women. However, Eve is a lady, professional, smart, resourceful and actively fighting a war to make the world a safer place. Aphrodite has no qualms about running around naked and puts out to anyone she meets or anyone she can benefit off of.
Now, I ain't going to judge artists for making their characters the way they are because I get that it is all part of artistic freedom and is part what drives the plot of the story. What does hurt me as a female person though is when you sit there telling me that Eve is a disgrace to women for being the way she is knowing what she does and she acts yet you turn around and tell me that Aphrodite is the gold standard of what female characters should all be like.
THAT is insulting. Not the characters. It's what you're saying and what that implies. Aphrodite may be crafty and may be self aware enough of her beauty in order to weaponize it, but she is not a role model. If anything, I can confirm as Greek lady who grew up with Greek mythology than she was one of the most evil Goddesses in lore. You do NOT want your daughters to be like her.
On the other hand, I think Eve is the kind of female character we've been needing for a while now since Jill Valentine, Lara Croft, Chun-Li or even Clementine from the Telltale Walking Dead games. And at the risk of being bold, even Bayonetta has my respect because even though her lifestyle is not one I would take up, she's still a hero with a heart of a gold and has a good sense of right and wrong when it comes to things that matter. Bayonetta is not a bad person for being loose anymore than Solid Snake is a bad person for also being loose AND being a smoker and drinker on top of that. Woman are allowed to have flaws and that extends to personality ones. It doesn't make them bad. It makes them human.
Let's look at the traits that really matter in female characters and even if they are bad guys, we have to take into account that they need to be as part of the plot.

hello!! i was wondering if you have any ways to worship Sol/Sunna, her brother (Mani) and Loki?
Offerings and ways of Worshipping Sól / Sunna
Associated runes: Dagaz and Sowelo
Offerings of Cider, Mead, Apple juice and orange juice
Like many solar deities, sunflowers and sun imagery are always a good idea!
In Germanic mythology Sól is considered the personification of the sun, meaning just spending some time outside in the sun would be perfectly acceptable!
Citrus is always good for sun gods and goddesses, lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, pomelo, kumquat, mandarin and clementine are all good!
Show respect to the land!
Pick up rubbish! Plant a garden! Go eco friendly! Bamboo brushes! No single use plastics! Every little bit counts 🧡
Donate to charities that help the environment such as tree planting, community gardens, wildlife protection, ocean clean ups, ozone protection! Pitch in too if you can!
Horses and Chariots!
Plants 🪴 are great offerings! Put them on her altar! Take care of them in her honour
Wear warm/summer colours
Sunna is a healer! First aid courses, learning old helping practices and remedies and even just taking care of yours and other physical health is amazing!
Know a good source recipe for when your sick? Perfect idea for an offering
Sunna embodies, energy, motivation and enthusiasm, carry these feelings with you always (as much as you can)
Have a candle on her altar! She gave the gift of fire! Its important to honour that
Celebrate the solstice!
Sun tea!!! 🌞
Honey
Hibiscus
Hope this helped! Sol/Sunna is hard to find information on so communicate with her directly and collaborate on offering ideas

Not sure how exactly I fell down this rabbit hole, but last night, I kept thinking back about to this ask. Somehow it led deeper down the rabbit hole and now I have a way to justify keeping Clemensia + the rest of the Dovecotes names as they are.
Possible Dovecote Lore (for this one AU only)
When Anise dies and is buried in 11, Ludius doesn't bring Hector back to the Capitol. They stay in the Districts despite the then matriarch threatening to disinherit him.
It remains a threat, Ludius is never disinherited. Not that the man knows that. Or uses any of the accounts he's entitled to as heir.
Setting in 11, the two Dovecotes have a home built. Think private land.
Studying in the Capitol is still possible as someone from the Districts if you have good grades and/or money. Hector still goes on to become a doctor. Meets Cleopatra. Probably Max too, though probably not as close as they were in other AUs.
Max isn't really sure what to think of him. (Gloriam levels of delusion to justify their friendship??)
Cleopatra is only in 11 to expand/oversee the family business. Definitely not because of a certain handsome doctor. Except she's not fooling anyone, but Hector. But that's just Hector.
Hector & Cleopatra do marry, they remain in D11 - Hector doesn't travel as much in this one, travelling is mainly confined to within D11. Unfortunately, Hector doesn't escape his fate and still dies in a pandemic, leaving behind his grieving wife + son.
Endymion doesn't work for the government in this AU, but he did attend university in the Captiol - he's a teacher both at the school and as a piano teacher to the wealthier families amongst 11. Rumoured to help run his mother's family business. But no concrete evidence.
Aelia is the one that has government ties in this one. Still Capitol born and ended up assigned to work in 11. Liaison between Peacekeepers and Mayor. Post-dark days, she works for the mayor.
Clementines! Not exactly, Dovecote clementines, but still Aelia + Endymion's thing.
Clemensia is more so named for the fruit than for the goddess this time around. Still sort of both, because it's a nod to her parents' heritage.
Stuck in the Districts during the war.
Cleopatra died during the war as well.
POST-dark days
Wealth took a hit after the war, much was confiscated. Including their family home. Assigned one in the merchant area instead.
Rumours that the Dovecotes used to be Capitol. Or have some Capitol ties. Their names hint at this at least.
But Hector's work within the District is still well remembered. And other Dovecotes are fairly well liked/have a good reputation.
The name Dovecote remains part of the elite in the Captiol. Only a cadet branch exists over there.
So when Clemmie is reaped for the 10th games, the elites gossip that it must have been rigged. That the cadet branch was trying to get rid of the main branch.
I guess Felix being assigned to mentor her is a status sort of thing.

sephie learns that constance had a sister whose name meant Mild.
and mildly, passively, she seemed to gnaw away at herself. constance seemed to recall a simmering, a yawning burn in the gut of her taller, older, prettier sister.
—————————————————————
( sephie inquires: Prettier? nancy waves a hand: Objectively. Also Absolutely. )
—————————————————————
clementine had a quiet and sheerly dark sense of humor. she was fantastically morbid, and joked about dying often.
—————————————————————
( Did She Know? / Teeney Felt It Coming. )
constance was confident in her memory. constance was confident in her sister.
—————————————————————
sephie looks up the name Makaria. Makaria means Blessed One.
they look up the name Melinoë. Melinoë means Soothing One.
and Richard means Brave King.
—————————————————————
"i don't really think about the meanings behind names," constance confesses.
she works the loom deftly.
"i try not to let them mean much to me anymore," she admits and the tinny noise of the loom threads plucked fill the quiet.
—————————————————————
PERSEPHONE MEANS DESTROYER PERSEPHONE MEANS DESTROYER PERSEPHONE MEANS DESTROYER PERSEPHONE MEANS DESTROYER
—————————————————————
"it's an indo - european origin," constance says brightly, "did you know that?"
"i am unfamiliar with that."
"grayboy's roma, which is an indo - european ethnic demographic," she explains, "but there's different cultures that revolve around that, so it's not a monolith. it's not 2001."
sephie is unfamiliar with that, but tries to accept constance's vagueness. her mouth flits darkly downward slightly, so it must be a joke.
not a mean one.
"so it is romani?"
"no, it's pre - roma indo - european. a lot of modern hinduism gets its roots from it. so did ancient greek mythology."
"you know much about this . . . " sephie is slightly skeptical.
"golden age india has ways of leather tanning that can't be beat today. one thing leads to another, and i've just spun a whole thing."
the loom has spun a lampshade.
—————————————————————
"but the proto - indo - europeans used an earlier variant of persephone as a way to describe a light bringing goddess, and then when proto - mycaeneans invaded, they took the name with them and adapted it to their mythology."
Light Bringer.
"why not keep the intended meaning?"
"euhm . . . well, historically, it's a surefire way to rewrite culture and make it more beneficial for the conqueror. steal, rewrite, forget. history's written by winners."
"but you do not forget," sephie slyly jokes, "anything."
constance's face draws slightly dreamy.
"someone's gotta remind brick walls." she says.
—————————————————————
sephie learns that constance's name means Resolution. resolutely, she draws needles into her fingers and makes something out of thin air. words or time or computer bits or lampshades. resolutely, she also drove the last nail into the coffin.
for someone as large in power as they are, it typically happens that things smaller than her create them.

I have been trying to figure out what to say about this movie since I saw it on the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival jury, and I keep running up against the embarrassing conclusion that it has been impossible for me not to take it personally. This happens occasionally, where something hits you so strongly right in your DNA that you can't even tell whether it's as good as you think it is; mercifully the quality of RED ROOMS is not in doubt, but it reminded me of my delusionally personal associations with the original SNOW WHITE. The Disney feature was one of the first movies I ever saw, and it seemed to communicate to me very directly about my options for living as a human female of the brunette variety: On one end of the spectrum there is the sickly virgin with her morbid beauty and her kinship with nature, and on the other end, the cannibalizing bitch goddess with her devious mind full of arcane knowledge (ok so the Wicked Queen is not actually dark-haired, but I assert that that cowl counts (and I want one)). As a little girl I thought, yes, this is a pretty good deal for me, either one of these assignments will do.
Pascal Plante's RED ROOMS offers a similar dichotomy, and it has proven very hard for me to avoid seeing its main characters as an Aspirational Self, and a disappointing Actual Self. Maybe RED ROOMS has a Magic Mirror quality, in fact maybe all films do, though they don't all speak so clearly and bluntly to every viewer.
Juliette Gariépy plays Kelly-Anne, a fashion model who is fixated on the high profile trial of Ludovic Chevalier (Maxwell McCabe-Lokos) who is accused of serial murder and traffic in the snuff films of his young female victims. Seated in a row of goth groupies, the expressionless Kelly-Anne is identified with their fascination with the case, and yet we have no idea what really motivates her. Implicitly, few people would have any idea what it is like to be Kelly-Anne; as her internet handle LadyOfShalott suggests, she lives alone in a luxury highrise with the computer as her only connection to the outside world. She emerges for fashion shoots marked by her dark, edgy brand, and to attend the Chevalier trial. Otherwise, her only regular human contact is with online poker competitors who are no match for her savant-like math expertise and apparent lack of feeling. She presents as a bit of a sociopath, which becomes worrisome as she uses her technological skills to stalk the bereaved mother of the only victim whose recorded murder has not yet surface. However, Kelly-Anne is ultimately unknowable, and not much like the other fangirls and -boys who appear day after day at the hearings. We find evidence of this in the arrival of Clementine (Laurie Babin).
In opposition to Kelly-Anne, Clementine is needy, ingratiating, and naively intrusive. The tiny girl is fueled by her fanatical belief that Chevalier is innocent, a conviction she assumes Kelly-Anne must share. In a moment of rare empathy, the model invites the urchin into her sanctuary and, after flirting with the notion of human friendship, she eventually reveals enough to totally shatter the young woman's illusions. Clementine is the perfect foil, providing us with a tool for interrogating Kelly-Anne's identity and motivation--and for me, she also provided a painful reminder of the difference between myself and what I claim to value. Kelly-Anne is like every William Gibson heroine I have ever attached myself to: beautiful and alien, yet more intelligent than beautiful, dangerously brilliant and purpose-driven, emotionally incompatible with normal people, voluntarily exiled to the fringes of society despite her social currency and financial power. It's hard to imagine what she does and does not feel, but perhaps her life is not so easy. Clementine doesn't see it, of course, finding Kelly-Anne's robotic perfection very amusing. Clementine is her opposite: pretty only in a childlike way, hopelessly unself-conscious, counterbalancing her ignorance with self-righteous fanaticism. I saw myself there, and while Clementine is appealing and sympathetic despite (or even because of) her foibles, it wasn't a great feeling. She is obsessed rather than focused, embroiled in adult matters she can't quite grasp, and incapable of understanding or engineering other people's perceptions of her. She and Kelly-Anne make a lovely odd couple, but true connection is not quite possible, and Clementine only ends up feeling embarrassed, and like she has something to apologize for.
Whatever filmmaker Pascal Plante's grander statements might be, about the cybernetic nature of modern life and the merchandising of other people's lives and deaths, laced through as they are with a peculiar Arthurian motif, I've had a hard time fully engaging with them only because of my own passionate investment in his characters and their perverse interpersonal dynamics. Maybe by October I will have matured enough to articulate a more robust argument about this in-any-case extremely great movie. In the meantime, I am haunted by the enviable unknowability of Kelly-Anne, and the tragic transparency of Clementine. For now I will just say that I love it when a male filmmaker seems to live out a fantasy through a female character. One of the reasons that I don't totally dis Rob Zombie is that I enjoy the way that he encourages personal identification with tough female protagonists represented by his wife Sheri Moon, genre heroines like Meg Foster and Karen Black, and in my personal favorite instance, young Taylor Scout Compton:
When I saw this grim, black-eyed portrait of Pascal Plante, with its stark resemblance to Kelly-Anne, I thought yes, this guy gets it, he wants to live through her just like the rest of us, even if her version of humanity is not ours.
PS Please enjoy Lord Alfred Tennyson's description of average Tumblr user the Lady of Shalott, depicted visually by John William Waterhouse:

hello! just popping to say I decided to read making your own worst enemy on a whim last night, and after finally finishing it 24 hours later (cough its 2am cough) I really, really loved it. i do find it really funny that I was just thinking abt how short the chapters were for an 88k word fic, and then i got to The Chapter and ah. it made sense.
the fucking. "fun" fact at the end of the clementine part definitely made me want to bawl my eyes out although this sentence definitely gave me an amazing feeling of satisfaction And it made me giggle:
also i just really fucking love the reoccurring use of blue in this fic, with how techno reads tommy's happiness as blue to tommy's transmogrification powers showing up as blue (and how he only got it back when he felt REALLY happy AND the noticeable lack of those powers when in dream's home) and then it all just ties back with how wil uses blue to find his way home (also just a GREAT reference to ghostbur's blue in canon which. sobs)
ALSO ALSO I LOVE KRISTIN IN THIS im not usually a huge fan of when kristin isnt physically present in fics (i was looking through her tag when i came across your story) but how you wrote her was so fucking funny and cool and a great subversion of the usual "dead/death goddess kristin who only gets mentioned in One sentence and is otherwise not relevant to the plot besides backstory purposes"
anywayssssssss i really REALLY loved your fic and can't wait to read the rest of it! (in your own time, of course)
So glad you like it! Yeah... yeah chapter 14... uh, got away from me?
The color theory is a lot of fun in "Making Your Own Worst Enemy." I went ham on the blue references lol.
Kristin in Making Your Own Worst Enemy is such a fun character. She's out here being chaotic and adopting freaking out supervillains. I especially love her in the Tommy chapters. She's so fun. XD

clementine kesh is a character i'm glad most people don't know because she's controversial in the way that she's built to suck and be hated but people are obsessed with her because she's compelling narratively and i think the discourse would be insane. anyway she's a space princess who can't dream of a world better than one where her power comes from slave labor as long as she gets to be on the throne, so transparent in her maneuvering she becomes completely divorced from power pretty much on the grounds that she sucks and no one likes her but she's so entertainingly unable to change she gets adopted by a capricious heretic goddess-machine built around cycles and becomes the witch-queen of a floating city of the resurrected dead which is itself a kind of god no allowed to die and a stolen symbol of the imperial house that disowned her. personality-wise she's petty, violent and pathetic. i haven't even touched on her mom not liking her or her homoerotic rival. anyone interested in ttrpg podcasts and spaces drama should listen to friends at the table season 6 partizan the person who plays her fucking commits to her worst qualities at all times it's great
.
#if it weren’t reserved for only vriska this might get a tails reaction from me#propaganda#not a poll#ask#anonymous#clementine kesh

Which symbolic fruit are you?
Izar: 🍎Apple
The apple is most commonly known for being associated with the forbidden fruit that Eve eats in Catholicism which casts her and Adam out of heaven: original sin. However, apples are also symbolic to Pagan fertility goddesses, the seeds of which are five and showcase a pentagram when cut horizontally. The apple in any case, represents wisdom and knowledge, independent desire and curiosity. You are someone who seeks to understand the world better. You believe in independent thought and asking questions which to some may be hard to answer. There's been times where you may have persecuted for being different from how others expect you to act, but have never let that stop you from speaking your mind and taking what you want. However, be wary of leaping into things you don't understand. Knowledge is a wonderful, illuminating thing, but knowing too much can be a burden to some. "Someone who seeks to understand the world better", "independent desire and curiosity", "be wary of leaping into things you don't understand" ... that's all very Izar! Absolutely a perfect fit.
Ensha: 🍊 Clementine
In Chinese culture, clementines, known for their bright orange, waxy exterior, were symbolic of gold, and by extension, wealth, good fortune and abundance. Trees that bear clementines (or mandarins, as they're also known as) are often used to decorate the thresholds of Chinese households as a sign of good luck and prosperity. As lucky as Clementines may be, so are you and those around you. With a sunny disposition, and a knack for seeing the best in everyone, and the good in the world around you, you're someone who believes that the glass is always half full. Things can always be worse, and they will always get better, one way or another! Like the vibrant clementines you're known for bringing light to those who need it, and always bringing laughter to your friend group. However, such a bright exterior can sometimes hide a deep and lingering sadness. Remember: even the light sometimes has to dim, and even the sun has to set. Don't worry; it'll always come back.
... Excuse me, I'll be down here, rolling on the floor laughing. "Sunny disposition"? "Always bringing laughter"? "Bright exterior"? ... BUT I retook the quiz for Ensha three times and always got the clementine, even with slightly changed answers. Well, I guess some things still track if we consider the whole ancient king/lord of the lost and desperate stuff from his armor. Gold, wealth and abundance, check. "Known for bringing light to those who need it"... of course. He has the little candle. (And I already have a whole headcanon around lost lore regarding that.) ... I still can't stop laughing at "sunny disposition".
[Tagged by @miserycorde - thanks! Tagging: anyone who'd like to do it!]
#prized by the crafty and fleet of foot | tags and dash games#ensha: “things can always be worse. AND THEY WILL BE.”#“seeing the best in everyone? maybe. more often than not it's still not very good.”#“i do not DECORATE thresholds. i guard them. what nonsense is this.”#“WHO EVEN CARES ABOUT GLASSES I DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING ABOUT GLASSES”
