The social media and messaging platform Telegram is allowing numerous QAnon and far-right channels to monetize their content on the platform with revenue from its newly launched advertisements program, a Media Matters review has found.

In late February, Telegram’s CEO and founder Pavel Durov announced that the company would be launching advertising on the platform, “allowing channel owners to receive financial rewards.” Specifically, owners of public channels with over 1,000 subscribers would receive “a 50% share of the revenue Telegram earns in connection with the number of valid impressions of sponsored messages displayed in eligible channels you own” — an arrangement the platform has called “one of the most generous reward systems in the history of social media.” Ads are described within the app as “help[ing] the channel creator.” [...]

As for where these advertisements are winding up, a Media Matters review found them running in nearly three dozen QAnon-affiliated and far-right channels, suggesting that the owners of these channels have financially benefited from the new feature. These include multiple channels associated with QAnon figures and shows such as Nicholas Veniamin, Jacob Creech (known online as “Clandestine”), “Pepe Lives Matter,” John Sabal (known online as “QAnon John” and “The Patriot Voice”), “StormyPatriotJoe,” “Enoch,” “TheStormHasArrived17,” “Shadow of Ezra,” Paul Fleuret (known online as “Absolute1776”), Jeffrey Pedersen (known online as “intheMatrixxx”), David Hayes (known online as “Praying Medic”), Jordan Sather, X22 Report, Patriot Streetfighter, Woke Societies, and Zak Paine. The review also found a channel called “Q NEWS OFFICIAL TV #WWG1WGA” with advertisements.

Outside of QAnon, far-right figures who have promoted white nationalism, anti-Muslim rhetoric, and/or Holocaust denial — Vincent James Foxx, Laura Loomer, Stew Peters, Nick Fuentes, and Keith Woods — also had advertisements on their channels. Other far-right figures and entities had advertisements on their channels as well, including Patrick Byrne, Sidney Powell, David Clements, and former Trump national security advisor Michael Flynn, who have pushed election denial; Sherri Tenpenny and Larry Cook, who have pushed anti-vaccine misinformation and conspiracy theories; conspiracy theorists Roger Stone and Karli Bonne; conspiracy theory channels Disclosure Hub and “Covid Truth Network”; and Tracy “Beanz” Diaz, who played a key role in QAnon’s early spread.

Telegram coddles far-right extremists and QAnon conspiracists with its new ads program that allows monetization of their content.

SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM, Petitioner, vs. TERESITA JARQUE VDA. DE BAILON, Respondent.

G.R. No. 165545             March 24, 2006

Civil law; subsequent marriages before the effectivity of the Family Code.

ISSUE: May the subsequent marriage of Clemente Bailon and respondent Teresita Jarque be terminated by mere reappearance of the absent spouse of Bailon? (answers are rulings of the Supreme Court) after the facts

FACTS: Clemente G. Bailon and Alice P. Diaz got married in 1955. Over 15 years later, Bailon filed a petition to declare Alice presumptively dead, and the court granted it in 1970.

In 1983, Bailon married Teresita Jarque. Bailon, a retiree pensioner, passed away in 1998. Teresita filed claims for funeral and death benefits, which were granted by the Social Security System (SSS).

However, Cecilia Bailon-Yap, claiming to be Bailon's daughter, contested the claims, stating that Alice was still alive and that Teresita's marriage to Bailon was void. The SSS recommended canceling Teresita's benefits and refunding the amount paid to her.

Various parties filed claims for Bailon's death benefits, and the SSS ordered Teresita to refund the benefits she received. Teresita protested and filed a petition with the SSS.

Later, Alicia P. Diaz, claiming to be Bailon's widow, submitted an affidavit contradicting Bailon's representation of Alice's disappearance. The SSC declared Teresita as a common-law wife, ordered her to refund the benefits, and directed the SSS to pay Alice her rightful death benefit.

Teresita appealed to the Court of Appeals (CA), which reversed the SSC's decision, stating that the SSS lacked the authority to nullify the court's findings and that Teresita was not given a fair opportunity to present evidence. The motions for reconsideration by the SSC and the SSS were denied.

ANSWER (SUPREME COURT RULING): YES!

Supreme Court denied the petition for review on certiorari filed by the Social Security System (SSS). The SSS argued that the Court of Appeals (CA) failed to consider the findings of the Social Security Commission (SSC) regarding the prior and subsisting marriage between Bailon and Alice, disregarded the authority of the SSC to determine the beneficiaries of the death benefits, and claimed that the SSS did not provide the respondent with due process.

However, the Supreme Court held that the SSC exceeded its authority by reviewing and overturning the decisions of regular courts.

The court emphasized that the applicable law to determine the validity of the marriages involved is the Civil Code since they were solemnized before the effectivity of the Family Code.

Under the Civil Code, a subsequent marriage during the lifetime of the first spouse is considered illegal and void unless certain exceptional circumstances exist or it is declared null and void by a competent court.

The court further explained that the burden of proof lies with the party challenging the validity of the second marriage.

In this case, Alice had been absent for 15 consecutive years when Bailon sought the declaration of her presumptive death, which was not even required for purposes of remarriage at that time. Additionally, the court cited legal opinions stating that if a subsequent marriage is dissolved by the death of either spouse, the effects of dissolution of valid marriages arise.

Therefore, since no steps were taken to nullify Bailon's and respondent's marriage before Bailon's death, the court concluded that the respondent is the rightful dependent spouse-beneficiary of Bailon. As a result, the Supreme Court denied the SSS' petition.

Philippines Soars: Wushu Triumph and Hosting!

  Golden Feat in Texas

The Philippines wrapped up its spectacular run in the 16th World Wushu Championships held at the Forth Worth Convention Center in Texas, USA. Mark Lester Ragay, Mark Anthony, and Vincent Ventura seized the spotlight, clinching a gold medal in the men's Taolu Duilian event on Monday.   A Medal Harvest Adding to the glory, the Philippines secured four silver medals in various categories. Agatha Wong showcased her prowess in the women's Taolu-Taijiquan event, while Jenifer Kilapo, Arnel Roa Mandal, and Clemente Tabugara Jr. contributed to the silver medal count in the women's Sanda 48kg, men's Sanda 52kg, and men's Sanda 65kg, respectively. Russel Diaz also bagged a bronze in the men's Sanda 48kg, propelling the Philippines to a commendable seventh position overall.  

Regional Powerhouses Dominate

As the dust settled, China emerged as the undisputed leader, topping the medal table with an impressive haul of 15 golds. Vietnam secured the second spot with five golds, three silvers, and three bronzes. VtM:WW(W) - The Introduction & Overview Pt. 1

(this post is an introduction to npcs, the coterie, and teddy the dog)

Vampire: the Masquerade - Womp Womp Womp is a sequel to Vampire: the Masquerade - Womp Womp, both titled after a worm meme. It’s set in 2019 NYC, with Camarilla focus, featuring an original cast of characters since I had set the game up before I touched any corebook outside of the V20 corebook.

VtM:WW had some stuffed changed after the fact due to timeline shenanigans, but these are the important parts:

The coterie consisted of three neonates that lived together in an apartment. They were not very important people.

Trevor Ygghain was a seventy-something year old neonate and Brujah. He was abandoned by his sire in his fledgling years and therefore forgot them.

Val Diaz was nineteen and only two years Embraced. Their sister, Merin Diaz, was their sire, and she was the childe of the former Prince, Diane Vaughan. They were a radio show host and a Toreador.

Humphrey Harvey Hampshire was a British man with abandonment issues and a snake named Crumpet. Despite fitting the bill for being a Malkavian or Nosferatu, he was Tremere.

The reigning Prince, Ambrose Ravenscroft, came into rule in the early 1900s due to Vaughan being found guilty of diablerie. Unknown to most, Ravenscroft was Embraced into the Sabbat and failed to fully integrate into the Pyramid, causing a large rift between him and the greater body of Clan Tremere.

His Seneschal, Larkin Fallow, was Tzimisce antitribu pretending to be Gangrel.

His Sheriff, Mona Iglesias, was an illegal Ventrue Embrace by one of the old Harpies. While she was set to be executed, Larkin convinced Ambrose otherwise and he spared her, taking her on as his one and only childe, for he was unable to Embrace.

The Keeper of Elysium, Camille Burke, was the only one unwilling to fully integrate into the Ambrose-serving Princedom he ran, still vouching for the integrity of the Camarilla and regularly communing with the Tremere, since relocated to Staten Island. Ambrose did not like this and sought to remove her.

The Tremere Primogen, Pierce Clements, did not like Ambrose, and so the two regularly avoided each other at best and actively fought one another at worse.

The Primogeniture, established before any Prince came to power, consisted of the following Clans:

Cicero Davis, the unofficial master of the domain, (i.e. person that controls a domain), of Clan Toreador, and he had fought a long cold war with Clan Malkavian for control of the city. He was only loosely associated with his Clan.

Ulysses Connell, the Malkavian Primogen who claimed to be the direct childe of Malkav. He also was very interested in theater, with little care for politics, thinking himself above them.

Angeline Dunn, the Ventrue Primogen who was utterly divorced from her Clan altogether and did nothing to help the Ventrue from being treated like a low Clan in the city.

And Ruby Cawley, the Nosferatu Primogen, who hated ugliness to such extremes that she was believed to be Toreador by some and was similarly divorced from the main body of her Clan.

The state of the Camarilla in the city was, essentially, a power-hungry twink, a fucking Tzimisce, four Primogen that didn’t give a flying fuck, an abused Sheriff, two Primogen that were Primogen in title alone and had no power, and the Keeper of Elysium that did more work running this city than everyone else. Also she’s in lesbians with the Sheriff but that’s more of a side note.

Larkin and Mona physically show up to the coterie’s haven one night and demand that the Prince meets them. Because they can’t really tell them otherwise, the coterie obliges, and Ambrose is also kind of drunk and otherwise fucked-up, and he tells them that he has a job for them. There’s a serial killer going around town committing very grisly murders that are also starting to breach the Masquerade, and he wants the coterie to fix it for him.

(Everyone, at this point in time, thinks Ambrose is a very charming guy. He also insists on being called Ambrose, not Prince Ravenscroft.)

So the coterie goes off sleuthing, and they discover that all of the people being killed are Connell’s students, so they go to question him. Anyway Connell sounds absolutely batshit at best, so 2/3rds of the party don’t know what he’s saying, and the other third is British and doesn’t get cultural references to things like NYC being the Big Apple.

They feel pretty strongly that Connell isn’t the one killing them, though.

They eventually make their way back to their haven and find a gift left for them. It is a severed head in a box with a note attached, reading “Give up the hunt. -- E.”

They do not give up the hunt. Eventually, they track down the perpetrator with a little help from the Prince, a Nosferatu named Edgar Lane. He is also Burke’s favorite childe.

During all of this, Ambrose has found out that Humphrey is Tremere, and he’s very interested in having a Tremere presence in his city due to past events that otherwise ostracized him from the Clan. Because of this, he spends most of his time on-screen hitting on him and trying to make Humphrey like him, and then he sets up a date for the two as of Monday at the Metropolitan Opera House.

In between sleuthing, the party also gets a message from Ambrose. He wants them to take a few packages from an associate’s house, but without alerting him of their presence, and without getting it traced back to him.

It’s too late when they get the message, so they stop at a convenience store. Since Val has Fame 3, the cashier, a young kid (barely college-aged) named Justin Rivers recognizes them from the radio. Because Val is a horrible human being, they flirt with him and give him their number. It’s not their number. It is Ambrose’s number. This won’t have consequences.

The coterie goes the next night, spending the early evening teasing Justin over the phone and blatantly breaching the Masquerade, telling him that vampires are real and it’s just like Twilight. They break into his associate’s house, steal the packages, and then run out the door as he starts shooting at them. They jump out a window to get away, and then it’s time to take the packages to Ambrose.

He meets them at a sleazy hotel. Val stays back at their haven, but Trevor and Humphrey go to meet the guy. Justin is there on the bed, covered in blood.

He talks to Humphrey politely and Trevor not as politely. Val is watching at home over a body cam that Humphrey has on his hoodie, but then the connection is suddenly shut off, as Ambrose has Machine Blitz. (No one has yet to figure out that Ambrose is Tremere at this time, and they assume Toreador.) The party starts to panic.

Trevor mentions something about the history of the city, something known as the Howe Act, and Ambrose icily tells him to leave. It’s been a year or two since we had this session, so I don’t remember the specifics, but Humphrey mentions something that pisses Ambrose off so badly that he immediately enters Frenzy, blasting Justin with a Cauldron of Blood that he only survives due to the vitae in his system, and then he feeds from him until he is dead.

Ever the opportunist, Ambrose commands Humphrey feed Justin his blood, and Justin is Embraced. While he feeds hungrily from Ambrose’s wrist, Ambrose uses his big scary Dominate rating to rewrite Humphrey’s memories of the event - he came to drop off the package, and Humphrey saw Justin there and asked to feed from him. Ambrose, a polite host, allowed him to, but Humphrey drank too much and drained him dry, frantically Embracing him to save him. This was an illegal Embrace, and Ambrose could - and should! - have him killed for such a thing, but Ambrose is a kind man, and he tells Humphrey he’ll sweep it under the rug.

Without paying Humphrey for the delivery, he sends Humphrey and Justin on their way, but not without reminding Humphrey of their date come Monday.

(Everyone hates Ambrose now by the way.)

At this point, the game sort of died off because we were all busy, and also the Backstreet Boys Reunion Tour. We decided we would reboot the game, which would push VtM:WW back about eighty years and VtM:WWW would take place in 2019 instead. The game was still canon to WWW (sort of), and this was how the rest of the game unfolded:

Burke was eventually found guilty of the murders and Masquerade breaches going on in the city, and a Blood Hunt was put on her head.

When Larkin tried to intervene, Ambrose Frenzied and killed the man on the spot.

The new Seneschal became the former Baron of the Bronx, a woman named Emilia Barberini, who was blasted with a combination of Dominate, Presence, and Path of Corruption into submission. (She didn’t last long.)

Clements took Burke under his wing to protect her from the Blood Hunt, as he was very sick of Ambrose’s shit. He also had a Blood Hunt placed on his head.

Ambrose, using Barberini’s forces, wrenched Brooklyn from the Anarchs under Camarilla control.

With most of the boroughs under his rule, Ambrose revealed his true plan - he had been Blood Bound to his former Archbishop, a woman named Antoinette Weston, who he had been faithfully serving this whole time as a double-agent, I guess.

He went to report his progress to her, and she told him she was very pleased with what he’d done. Then, just as Ambrose had done to his sire and countless others, she’d diablerized him, and the Sabbat had briefly taken over the city.

Justicar Iadanza got involved. Things were eventually straightened out over a period of time, and soon Weston was dead, Connell executed for helping Ambrose as a co-conspirator (Cawley and Dunn were killed over the course of the game), and Clements was granted the role of Prince. Writers Q&A !!!

2. Have you already planned everything or do you just let things go?

Ooh, yes, so right now episode 6 is posting for this week but episode 7 and 8 I have a good idea of what will happen. After that, I don’t know. Since it is a legacy and not just a story it’s not planned too much. Isidora picks who she wants to be with, I let the game systems decide that but I throw people in her way to see...to make things interesting...and the same for friendships and everything really. It being a legacy IMO means the game should have some say in the story and I can get creative around that.

6. Who is your most favourite(s) character(s) and your least favourite(s) ? Why ?

Ooh this might be the hardest one but I’m going to go back a little for this one and say Dulce! I loved Dulce first of all because it’s such a great name, once she was born I pictured her and then she had a really interesting story going on. Her mother being a pornstar and all and her father a famous musician and if there is one sim heir I wish I played through it would have been hers.

My least favorite would be a very old 2nd gen heir, Clemente Diaz. Clemente was the father of Ben Diaz and he hated children and never liked Ben but I also just didn’t have much for him story wise either. 

7. Can you give me some random facts about Karver?

Sure! Karver is an only child and as of right now running EAA is his full time job. You can say it’s been his only job too, he’s completely committed to it! He’s usually pretty cheerful as well and would like to have a nice big family! 

11. Did you find any difficulties while writing ?

Nope! Writing has always just been my thing, I’ve enjoyed it since being a little kid and I write a lot and read a lot so it’s a passion! The writing comes easy, I’m not saying it’s good or bad (you be the judge!) but it is always the easiest part to telling sims stories. I could sit down and plot a story all day and enjoy it.

12. How would you describe your story to someone who’s never read it ?

I’d say it’s a story about generations of a family and anything could happen. The characters are not usually good or evil but all have their flaws and it’s definitely an adult story and something I write for fun!

14. Is there any special relationship you like in particular? Which one if yes?

I do like the relationship between Orlando and Isidora, it’s obviously not in a good place and one thing I try to do is write about flawed relationships because nothing is ever perfect and it’s rare I write a perfect ‘true love’ kind of story but between these two there was something there and they kind of got what they wanted and needed from the relationship and moved on. At least, one person has moved on.

The one true love kind of relationship that I did have was Dulce and Alejandro, it was love at first sight and a lot bonus going on there lol.

15. Do you have a favourite scene ? Why ?

My favorite scene hmmmm, so far, the EAA induction ceremony, although Elsa and Izzy never stated for the full induction, it was fun setting it all up. There is the other EAA scene that will post tomorrow that was also a lot of fun to shoot. 

If we go further back, my previous favorite scenes were dealing with Marta, when she poisoned a man and also the shootouts. I also enjoyed the raunchy Dulce scenes XD I do like turning up the XXX rating on my stuff a lot. I try not to do it too much but when I do, it’s a lot of fun.

Oh yes! The witch scene where they summoned something from another realm. I made a gif for that I was so happy for it! I also enjoyed a small sci-fi scene regarding Lul’xuv intended alien husband on his spaceship and how he was on his way to come get her. Never finished that story either >.<

A lot of my Carnage scenes I really enjoyed too. Especially a scene where she broke up a vampire orgy and massacred a bunch of people...you guys might be seeing Carnage and her universe again soon...maybe :P

So yea, a lot of the more set up scenes I enjoy doing!

16. How long does it take you to post this story (considering the writing/editing/”playing”/posting part) ?

It depends. So a regular normal day in which Isidora does nothing doesn’t take long at all but a more set up kind of scene, like the EAA ceremony, took a lot more time. I’d say two days but in hours maybe 2-3 hours. I do the pictures first and that’s the longest part. The writing is something I can do easily. I have 24 posts in queue right now, half of them need writing, I can write for them in an hour or so and have something to post for a few days as I work on the next set of content I need.

17. What is scaring you the most about this story ?

I wouldn’t say anything scares me about the story as I have it well handled. I know when I did Dalton and Telah’s stories I thought of scenes and the idea of like...portraying a massive magical battle against Lovecraftian army sounds fun in my head but doing so in game? Yeah, that scared me!

With this legacy right now I more worry that someone won’t get it or...I don’t know. My heirs are not meant to be good or bad and I know some people don’t like stories without a clear good guy v bad guy. There’s Isidora in my mind and the people that could hurt Isidora mentally/physically but Isidora is the protagonist. I take pride in sort of making a flawed person seem like they are right. Marta, she was a great example of this. She was a killer and heartless but people still rooted for her. So I worry more about how someone might perceive how I tell my stories or try to tie in my beliefs with those of my characters.

18. What do you enjoy the most about this story ?

Ooh, a lot! That it evolves with each episode and that I get to write about something perhaps taboo or unusual. The whole nature loving group that might be more of a cult is cool! I’m not sure how far I’ll get into it but I enjoy writing about it...along with the interesting past of Isidora that will slowly be unveiled and then you mix in the potential of her just having a somewhat normal life as well! I also just enjoy focusing on this one thing right now and not having to switch focus.
