TL;DR: Corsi-Rosenthal Boxes deliver quality air filtration at upwards of 30% higher air exchanges than comparable HEPA filters on the market. Build 'em for covid. Build em' for wildfire smoke. Build 'em for allergies. Build 'em to clean the air.
Abstract Filtration performance of do-it-yourself (DIY) box fan filters deployed across a university campus was assessed over an academic year. Four DIY air filters were constructed from box fans and air filters with a minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) of 13 and deployed in four spaces (two laboratories that include sources of particles and two offices). They were operated 9 hours daily with a programmable timer and were continuously monitored with power meters. Particle concentrations in the spaces were continuously monitored with low-cost nephelometers. The particle size dependent clean air delivery rate (CADR) and single pass filtration efficiency for each box was measured in a laboratory before deployment and every 10 weeks, for a total of five measurements over 40 weeks. We find that these DIY box fan filters maintain robust performance over time, with each air filter maintaining at least 60% of its initial CADR at the end of the 40 week study even with daily operation in environments with modest particle concentrations. CADR values for particles of 1.0–3.0 μm optical diameter averaged 34% higher than CADR values for 0.35–1.0 μm particles, aligning with MERV 13 filter size-dependent filtration expectations. Reductions in CADR over time were attributed to a reduction in filtration efficiency, likely due to a loss of filter electrostatic charge over time. There was no strong indication that increased resistance due to particle accumulation on filters appreciably decreased flow rates over time for any of the fans. The long-term robustness of DIY box fan air filters demonstrates their validity as a cost-effective, high performance, alternative to portable high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters.

The Best Way to Reheat Rice
The Best Way to Reheat Rice: A Complete Guide
Tumblr media
How to Reheat Rice Without Ruining It
Note: It's simple to mess up reheating rice, and one wrong move and you have a dry, crunchy mess or a mushy, glue-like disaster. Rice is the one food on earth that contains a fragile balance of moisture that, once disturbed, can destroy the texture completely. The key to reheating rice is to get it back to its light, fluffy state without overcooking it. We've tried the most well-known techniques, from the microwave to the stovetop, and we're settling once and for all how to revive leftover rice in the best way possible.
1. The Pacuzzi Technique – (The Best of Both Worlds)
Tumblr media
How it works: Based on Pacuzzi's own steam-and-skillet technology, the appliance reheats rice under gentle conditions with steam moisture while warming it evenly from the skillet surface using the Pacuzzi Silicone mat to prevent crisping of your rice grains.
Pros:
Keeps rice from drying with soft steam.
Provides even heating and prevents overcooking.
Restores fluffy texture without the addition of oil or butter.
Just press the Pacuzzi on your cold pan, add 1.5 ounces of water, place the Pacuzzi mat in your pan, turn your stove on to medium, wait for the water to boil (~2 minutes), cover with a lid and let Pacuzzi work its magic.
Cons: None—flawlessly reheated rice every time.
Rating: 10/10 – The perfect way to restore rice to its former glory.
2. The Microwave Method – (Quick but Imperfect)
Tumblr media
How it works: Put rice in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with a damp paper towel, and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each.
Pros: Quick and easy.
Cons: Rice is prone to drying out or hotspots.
Rating: 5/10 – Decent when in a hurry, but unreliable results.
3. Oven Baking – (Slow and Steady)
Tumblr media
How it works: Preheat oven to 300°F, put rice in an oven-proof container, add a dash of water, cover with foil, and warm 15-20 minutes.
Pros: Promotes even heating and prevents scorching.
Cons: Too slow, and the rice can end up dry if you don't put enough water in it.
Rating: 6/10 – Dependable, though not the most effective
4. Air Fryer – (A Dry Disaster)
Tumblr media
How it works: Put rice in an air fryer-safe container, cover loosely, and warm at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
Pros: Simple and fast.
Cons: Dries out the rice too much and doesn't rehydrate it.
Rating: 4/10 – Not suitable for delicate grains.
5. Stovetop Steaming – (A Timeless Solution)
Tumblr media
How it works: Put rice in a saucepan with a splash of water, cover, and heat over low, stirring occasionally until warmed through.
Pros: Hydrates and allows for even heating.
Cons: Needs to be watched and stirred occasionally to avoid
Rating: 7/10 – A good effort with room for improvement.
Final Verdict
Other methods of reheating dry out or overcook rice, yet with Pacuzzi, you have the ideal combination of heat and moisture for tender, fluffy rice every time. It's the next best thing to freshly cooked rice without cooking a second batch.
Learn why Pacuzzi is the sole method of bringing back rice perfection!

The 7-Item Cleaning Kit
So you need to clean your dwelling, and you don't have the resources to buy a cleaner for every occasion.
Well have I got a post for you!
Basically all household cleaning can be done with 6 items and water. And those items are fairly inexpensive.
Rags. Don't buy these. Any piece of cloth you were going to throw away/donate will do. Cut it into manageable sizes and use sewing or fabric glue to make a small hem around the outside. You can wash them in the same load of laundry as everything else (pre-treat very oily rags with soap and water) Scrap paper (paper bags, newsprint, etc...) will work for really dirty things you don't want to wash. Keep a pile going.
Water. Water is a nearly-universal solvent. It won't work on oil, wax, metal scratches on porcelain, or calcium buildup, but it will work pretty much alone (or with a rag and some elbow grease) on everyday dirt.
Soap. If water doesn't work alone, soap and water together usually will. A good rule of thumb is one part soap, one part water, and one part whatever you're trying to dissolve. The only things soap and water won't work on are those metal scratches and calcium buildup.
Melamine Sponge. What will work on metal scratches and calcium buildup without damaging porcelain, you ask? Melamine sponges. That's the generic for a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and let me tell you they're dirt cheap if you buy non-brand-name.
Broom and Dustpan. These are two things technically I guess but they usually come purchased as one. This will do general duty to sweep your floors, dust your walls and ceilings, and when you tie a large rag to the broom, damp mop too.
Medium or Hard Bristle Brush. This one is useful for loosening caked-on dirt on your floors and upholstery, and getting into tight spaces you can't with a rag.
Blade or Scraper. This can be an old credit card or a razor blade. This is for getting the bulk of gum, wax, mildew, stickers, or other hard-to-clean goo off of things.
Have questions about how to use these items for a specific cleaning project? Send an ask to @tightwadspoonies!

•°•Hot Girl Tips•°•
Hydrogen peroxide removes period stains
Rubbing alcohol and/or hand sanitizer removes nail polish
The amount of water you need to drink= your weight÷2, then that number÷8 so for example 100÷2=50÷8=6.25 so if you weigh 100 pounds you would need at least six 8oz glasses of water per day
Sugar wax>>> here's a recipe: 1 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of lemon juice (lime works too) combine the ingredients in a saucepan and let them boil until golden brown. The easiest way to test the wax is to have a small bowl of ice water and drop a little bit of the wax into it. When the wax is ready, you'll be able to roll it into a soft ball and it will keep its shape. When this consistency is reached, put it in a glass jar (make sure the jar isn't cold otherwise it will crack) and let it cool off for at least an hour. Once cool, apply it in the opposite direction of hair growth and wax awayyyy
Diy cuticle oil: olive oil and vitamin E oil. You could add a drop or two of essential oil if you want. The amount of oil you need depends on your container so for mine it was a tablespoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of vitamin E.
Diy dry shampoo: 3 parts cornstarch and 1 part baking soda.
Healthy drink to ease bloating and get in your vitamins and minerals: 1/2 cucumber, a few sticks of celery, kale or another dark green of your choice, lemon juice, turmeric (a little goes a long way) and ginger. Fresh is best but any ginger you have will work. Fill the blender to the max line with water, and blend until liquid. You can strain it if you want, but you don't have to. It doesn't taste great, but in the long run it is worth ittt
Smelling good is such a wonderful thing for so many reasons. First, pick a scent. Or at the very least a top 3 like I have: vanilla, Dior Blooming Bouquet, and Sol De Janeiro '68. I also use the classic scent from Soap and Glory (rose and bergamot). The first and most important thing is to find a good deodorant. Which one works for you depends on your body chemistry, but dove is always a safe bet :). Next, find a good shower routine. Having all of your shower products smell similar will keep the scent lasting longer. And, of course, shower at least every other day. Washing your hair is different bc your hair washing routine depends on your hair type. And of course you must find a body lotion that matches your other shower products.
Last and final tip for today: keep your nails and hands healthy and pretty by moisturizing your hands with hand cream. I like this one by Burts bees, this one from Eucerin, and this one from Dior (pricey I know but it's w o r t h itt).
That's it! Tysm

Productivity Jar (for Low Motivation)
You will need:
- 1 mason jar 🫙 with a lid (or any other container, up to you)
- many small slips of paper (I just cut up basic lined paper w scissors, but you can tear or use notecards or whatever you want)
- atleast one writing utensil (I used multicoloured pens but you can use whatever you want)
- (optional): ribbon 🎀 , stickers, paint 🎨 for decorating ✨
Steps:
1. Obtain above materials
2. Write down some productive things on your slips of paper (e.g. ~ fold clothes, study, answer emails, etc)
If you care, my slips included:
- workout
- write
- answer a tumblr ask
- organize shelf
- go outside
- fill water bottle
- tend to plants
- plan outfits
- organize desk
- skincare
- study
- answer emails
- go for a run
- eat (seriously)
3. Fill jar w slips and shake well
You’re done! Whenever you’re ready (I do this twice a day; morning & evening), go ahead and pick one slip at random and do whatever you’ve written on it :)

Cleaning with Intention #3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before and After
I found my Sarna bell collection in a box under a bed where it had probably been for close to a decade. Time to do some cleansing before I use them in any rituals!
So today’s homemade cleaner is for brass.
Simply combine 1 tsp of lemon juice and 1 tsp of baking powder to make a paste. It will fizz up at first but soon settles.
Tumblr media
Use a rag to run it into the brass and then wipe it off and voilà!
Tumblr media
Compare polished and unpolished
“Lemons have a cut-and-clear effect on a space, and have long been associated with destroying curses and breaking hexes.”
“Salt (baking soda is chemically a salt) is great for stopping any hexes put upon you and removing unwanted spiritual energies from your home.”
—New World Witchery
Edit: the polish worked well on silver as well.
