It's not the fact that I'm chronically ill that bothers me. That's fine. I wouldn't have it any other way. It makes me unique. It's how people treat me because of it. They always either tell me to suck it up and move on or treat me like I'm going to break if they breathe on me wrong. I'm not brittle or fragile. I'm not going to break. I just need to be treated more gentle. That doesn't mean people can't be energetic or a bit rough with me. It just means that I may not be able to return that energy or handle roughousing all the time. I'm not a vase. I'm a living, breathing, feeling person. I deserve to be treated like one.

Told a coworker I’m a chronic insomniac
She hits me with the classic “have you tried melatonin?”
Yes. Many times. It either does nothing, makes me sleep through all my alarms, or gets me trapped in the most violent night terrors that my brain locks into and I cannot escape until the scene is complete.
But yeah I’ll try Sleepytime tea and less screen time before bed because even after a decade of this nonsense I’ve NEVER tried that before

Chronic insomnia should be considered a disability and I will fight people about it. Lack of sleep consistently affects everything. The fact that these people just have to suffer through it is nuts.

There's a difference between "I have a hard time sleeping" and "chronic insomnia since comin out the womb"
aka insomnia as a symptom vs insomnia as a disorder
a lot of people will suffer insomnia for some reason or another some time in their life.
meanwhile some of us have that issue without reason and always have and let me tell you it isn't just "hard time falling asleep" no no REAL insomnia is hell
.
oh you wanted to sleep in until 1pm? lol no you're getting up at 10am. bc you have been waking up every hour since 7 am and going back to sleep just to wake up and see that only an hour has passed, and you're tired of it now so you get up
you wanted to stay asleep for a full 6 hours? haha funny creature, you wake up every 2 hours. your REM cycle? non-existent. 24 mins of REM a night seems to be your record, whenever that happened.
need to take a nap bc you can't physically stay awake? well you can lay there with your eyes closed for 2 hours and I guess that's the same right?
