Someone please explain to me why I'm learning more about the christian mythos from the Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss fandoms than I ever did growing up in church. Did you guys know that Lucifer tried to fuck Adam? Did y'all know that? Because I sure as hell didn't! Shit, I thought it was made up but nope! It's real!
https://sacred-texts.com/bib/fbe/fbe087.htm
Right after Cain kills Abel Lucifer turns into a sexy woman, strolls up to Adam and tries to get in that poor mourning man's pants! Imagine that! Your oldest son just brutally murdered his younger brother then the devil slides up next to you and is like
"Heeeeeeeey, may I offer you some pussy in these trying times~?"
"...My kid just died..."
"All the more reason to take me up on this offer! You're young—plenty of stamina to make another! Come on, live a little~"
Why did they just decide to not teach this!? This feels like it would have made an excellent sermon on the dangers of temptation and how the devil tries to get you at your lowest moments. I know multiple Baptist preachers that could turn this into the sermon of a lifetime!

Extremely niche comparison but the plot of The Locked Tomb is so similar to what a Mechanisms album about the bible would conceivably look like.

I really wish we knew more about Laufey in Norse myth
Because like
HOW DOES SHE FEEL ABOUT WHATS HAPPENING TO HER SON? WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
Like does she mourn him for what has been done? Scorn and pretend he doesnt exist because of what he will do?
WHAT DOES SHE FEEL?
The fact that Loki uses her name instead of Farbauti's interests the fuck out of me

you are pitting Jesus and Santa Claus against each other. I am acknowledging Santa as both a mythic symbol of Christ and a cultural legend based upon a real man whose faithfulness to Christ was used by God to grant common grace not just to the people of Myra but throughout the entire world. we are not the same.

This is actually a good explanation IDK why I didn't think of this. Obviously I'm not Christian (just check my blogs it's easy to tell 😭) but it explains a lot for probably all religions as well. THIS is what it means to not take myths literal (mythical literalism). Because the Bible is, and this might be controversial to say don't come at me, Christian mythology. Just as Greek Mythos are mythology for Hellenic Polytheism and neither should be taken literal. They are there for figurative reasons, to tell stories and tales of things people experience. Take Orpheus and Eurydice for example. He's not actually trying to bring her back, you can't bring someone back from the dead, but it is explaining grief in a metaphorical way. How thinking of a loved one that died is like losing them over and over again and being unable to stop it (this is an explanation made by someone else and I don't remember who or where I saw it, I hope I got this across in the way I wanted it to because I don't remember how exactly they explained it. It MIGHT be in my likes but I'm not completely sure). Sure, some stories told can be and probably are true, but definitely not all of them. Honestly I had a hard time grasping what mythical literalism was and how to not believe in it myself and this post helped a lot so maybe this can help someone else (however, take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am still very new to religion and I'm not the person to rely on). Also I got the screenshot from Pinterest so I am unsure who posted it unfortunately.

what i find so funny about the whole neopagan witchy wicca spiritual movement is how it’s just entirely based on misconceptions and myths about pagan survivalism in medieval christianity. it just has zero of the historical basis that they claim. like.. if you have even just a basic historical understanding of how and why christianity was spread across europe, it all just falls apart lol

the thing that REALLY has me climbing the walls about ravenous is it’s use of the wendigo myth. like cannibalism is really explicitly about colonialism in this movie and the fact that the cannibal characters became cannibals in the first place because they heard the wendigo story from native characters. like ives and hart and boyd aren’t *literally* wendigos because even that concept is stolen property. they took the story and changed it to justify their own violent desires. they cannibalized it, even.

the other thing about men 2022 dir garland is like the first rule is to never go to a remote village anywhere in England Wales or Scotland. this is lesson number one that any indigenous person of another country knows instantly upon setting food on that accursed isle. like WE KNOWWWW. I dont feel bad for you. you are the one who got a weird vibe on the outskirts of a village and kept pursuing it. YOU are the one who saw the freaky cauldron. like it is not my problem if someone cant feel theres some weird old powers in the forest. if you thought that man was a stalker that is on YOU!!! ma'am. EYE would have known that he is the green man because EYE would have gotten the vibe.

So lemme get this straight: JC Helios wants to make everybody on earth perfect and connected with god.
Wasn't that Lucifer's original plan for humanity until Jesus told him that was a dumb idea and then got promptly kick the fuck out of heaven for causing a war?
