Cooking at home
Tumblr media
Making my Black Forest themed trifle. Some of the cherries came from the garden but the real magic is using blackberries to make a jelly element of the dish.
Tumblr media
Make a chocolate custard
Tumblr media
I am using sherry infused cream for the topping
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It needs something, cherries, chocolate. I’m not sure I have either.
Tip; blackberries go well with chocolate. I had some of the jelly with a warmed piece of chocolate fudge cake.

Any other primarchs that have crafty hobbies?
Leman also knits and spins. He and Dorn would do it together but like I mentioned in my tags, Leman likes to gossip while he works.
Fulgrim bakes and makes a fuckin delicious chocolate cherry trifle. Has to shoo Ferrus out of the kitchen when he's making pavlova.
And Vulkan has made it a personal mission of his to learn to cook every comfort food of everyone he knows.

I don’t mean this in a mean way, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Christmas happens in summer for y’all Down Under
you had me worried in the first half, anon. 🫣 lmao, i can appreciate that a southern hemisphere Christmas is a foreign (literally) concept if you’ve only ever known a winter one!!! however it is very normal to me. 😌 how would i describe it… 🧐 it’s hot! very hot, especially where i am. a lot of my Christmases, growing up, involved being near a pool: the smell of sunscreen and chlorine and hot pavement and the warm plastic from whatever pool toy you’d been given that morning. sometimes we’d spend Christmas near the beach! so we’d swap out the chlorine for the salt air and trekking sand back into the holiday resort apartment. Christmas trees are nearly always plastic ones! and the one staple i can track from my childhood to adulthood with food is plenty of stone-fruit—cherries and mangoes! my family has always done the ham, although tbh it’s stupid that we keep that, oven-based cooking in the middle of summer should be illegal. alas, that’s the Commonwealth rearing it’s head in our blood. 😔 now i can’t imagine Christmas lunch any other way. 🥺 although, my parents would do big seafood spreads if we were having a big Christmas! lots of prawns, crabs, etc. 🦐 pavlova was a common dessert when i was a kid, though since i’ve taken over the cooking i like to stick with a white chocolate and strawberry trifle. i love Christmas!!! setting up a trampoline in the backyard, on Christmas eve, while the cicadas scream in the dusk. the low, sweet burn of a mozzie coil on the back porch, as the adults sit around with glasses of champagne. My mum used to sing along to Boney M as she’d get everything ready, in the morning; I still play it for her now. I dunno! I dunno how else to describe it! The pop of the Christmas crackers, and their flimsy paper crowns; shelling pistachios until your fingertips hurt. It’s my favourite holiday and my favourite time of year, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 😌

Thanks for reblogging that Mid West American desserts. My roommate was telling of chili from the Mid West. White beans, ground beef, and American cheese. It was the blandest thing you could think of. What local S.A. recipes make you cringe?
I don't know if it's a local recipe but trifle is REALLY not my thing AT ALL.
Marie biscuit bottom which ALWAYS gets soggy, then a bunch of custard, then a mix of fruit and cream or cut up marshmallows, then Jelly, usually cherry flavoured, then MORE custard and then topped with Marie Biscuit crumbs or chocolate flake. Maybe some cherries too idk.
It's just a giant soggy, ridiculously sweet wet MESS on a plate. It ruins perfectly good jelly, AND perfectly good custard, AND perfectly good marshmallows.
It's just slop on a plate.

An affront to humanity.
