Red Chinese yard-long beans grown on a Tower Garden. ❤️

We have grown green yard-long beans before but this is our first year growing red ones! We are absolutely stunned by its beauty. 😍

Chinese yard long beans are also known as long podded cowpea, asparagus bean, pea bean, or snake bean. 🌿🌱 This plant is of a different genus from the common bean. They are botanically a type of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) though they resemble pole beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). Young beans develop within sixty days of cultivation, and the long pods grow in pairs from the stem. Known for their extraordinary length, the beans can grow up to thirty inches (76 cm.) in length but for best flavor and texture, they should be harvested when between twelve and eighteen inches (30cm. - 45 cm.)

There are also multiple varieties of Chinese yard long bean including purple, red, green and yellow as well as multicolored green, pink and purple strains. We personally love to put them in a stir-fry, it’s absolutely delicious 😋 💚

Yes, do it: shop around! Our local (massive) international market “Super G” had surprises for me this Friday: . 1) Chinese Long Bean - I’m **really** tempted to braid these bad boys. Wrap in bacon. Broil. . 2) Indian Bitter Melon - aids in digestion, that’s all I know. Oh, and it’s bitter. Go figure. Anybody tried it? . 3) FISH CAKES! One of many items called fish cakes. Basically, anything either fish in it, shaped into something indescribable, made into a any variety of shapes, and it’s fish cakes. The more popular version is pink and white spiral shaped and you’ll find it in any decent bowl of Udon or Saimin. Yum. . 4) Fish....SAUSAGES?!? Aimed at kids, only slightly refrigerated and comes in a hard plastic box. I have virtually no idea how this tastes, but I didn’t find out since I had to buy the whole box to do it. Maybe next time! 😇 . What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten or seen that’s to be eaten? . . #Comingclean : I once dared my daughter to eat a fish eye from a freshly grilled rainbow trout.
