The Diversity of Indian Cuisine
Indian cuisine is incredibly diverse, and countless regional variations make it unique and flavorful. Each region of India has its distinct culinary traditions, with a unique mix of spices, ingredients, and cooking techniques. The result is a kaleidoscope of flavors and textures that satisfy any foodie’s cravings.
One of the fascinating facts about Indian food is the vast array of regional differences that exist. For example, you’ll find rich and hearty dishes like butter chicken and naan bread in the north.
In the south, on the other hand, the cuisine is characterized by lighter, spicier dishes like dosas and sambar. In the east, seafood is a staple of the cuisine, with dishes like fish curries and machher (fish) jhol being particularly popular. And in the West, you’ll find dishes like biryani and kebabs that showcase the region’s Persian and Mughal influences.
Some of the most popular regional dishes in India include:
Chole bhature from Punjab, a hearty chickpea curry served with deep-fried bread
Masala dosa from Tamil Nadu, a crispy crepe filled with spiced potatoes and served with coconut chutney
Hyderabadi biryani from Hyderabad is a fragrant rice dish with tender meat or vegetables and aromatic spices
Dhokla from Gujarat is a steamed cake made from fermented lentil batter and served with chutney
Indian cuisine has evolved over time, with influences from foreign invaders, trade routes, and cultural exchanges. The use of spices and herbs has been a constant throughout history, with different regions developing their own unique blends of spices. In modern times, Indian cuisine has also been heavily influenced by global trends and fusion cooking, resulting in dishes like Indo-Chinese noodles and Indian-style pizzas.
Vegetarianism in Indian Culture
Vegetarianism is a way of life in India and holds significant cultural and historical significance. The roots of vegetarianism can be traced back to ancient India, where the practice was associated with the ascetic way of life. Vegetarianism is not just a dietary choice but has religious and philosophical roots that have shaped the Indian way of life.
Hinduism is the dominant religion in India and plays a vital role in shaping the country’s vegetarian culture. In Hinduism, non-violence is a key principle, and meat consumption is discouraged as it involves taking life. Vegetarianism is also associated with the idea of purity.
Jainism is another religion in India that emphasizes the importance of non-violence and vegetarianism. Jainism is known for its strict dietary rules, and Jains believe that consuming meat and other animal products is a form of violence towards living beings.
Although not as prominent as Hinduism and Jainism, Buddhism also advocates for a vegetarian diet. Buddhists believe in the principle of ahimsa, which means non-violence towards all living beings, and vegetarianism is seen as a way to practice this principle.
Popular vegetarian dishes in Indian cuisine are diverse and flavorful. Saag Paneer, a dish made with spinach and cheese, is popular in North India. Chana Masala, made with chickpeas in a spicy tomato-based sauce, is a staple dish across India. Aloo Gobi, a dish made with potatoes and cauliflower, is another popular dish in North India.
Vegetarianism has influenced Indian cuisine in many ways. The abundance of vegetarian ingredients has created a vast array of vegetarian dishes that are both delicious and nutritious. Vegetarianism has also influenced the way food is prepared and served, with many traditional Indian dishes being prepared without the use of meat.
Global Impact of Indian Food on Cuisine
Over the years, Indian food has spread across the globe, and it has influenced and adapted to different cultures and cuisines. The global impact of Indian food has been tremendous, and its influence can be seen in various cuisines and food trends worldwide.
Indian cuisine has spread to every corner of the world, from small local restaurants to Michelin-starred establishments. The popularity of Indian food can be attributed to its rich and diverse flavors, which have captivated the taste buds of people worldwide. Indian food has also gained popularity due to the growth of the Indian diaspora, with Indian immigrants bringing their culinary traditions to new lands.
The influence of Indian food can be seen in the rise of fusion cuisine, which combines elements of different cuisines to create unique and innovative dishes. Indian flavors and spices have become a staple in fusion cuisine, with chefs worldwide incorporating Indian ingredients. Street food has also been influenced by Indian cuisine, with Indian-style street food stalls popping up in major cities worldwide.
The future of Indian cuisine and its global impact looks promising. With plant-based diets, which are now on the rise, and the growth of the Indian diaspora, Indian cuisine is poised to continue its global expansion.
A jeśli chodzi o mnie, to danie - cymes!
Składniki:
szklanka mąki pszennej 2 szklanki panko (lub bułki tartej) 3 jaja średnia główka kalafiora sól i czarny pieprz do smaku 1/3 szklanki cukru (lub miodu) 1/3 szklanki sosu sojowego 3 ząbki czosnku średnia papryczka chili łyżka sosu Sriracha sok z limonki ¼ szklanki wody 2 łyżeczki skrobi kukurydzianej 2 gałązki dymki 1/3 szklanki białego sezamu
Wykonanie:
Rozgrzać piekarnik do 190°C. Blachę do pieczenia wyłożyć folią aluminiową.
Kalafior opłukać i podzielić na różyczki wielkości kęsa. W dużej misce połączyć mąkę z kalafiorem, podrzucając tak, aby pokrył się cały mąką. W średniej misce ubić jaja z dwiema łyżkami wody i łyżeczką sosu sojowego. Do kolejnej miski wsypać panko. Zanurzać różyczki kalafiora w masie jajecznej, a następnie w bułce tartej, by całkowicie je pokryły.
Ułożyć kawałki kalafiora na przygotowanej blasze, doprawić solą i pieprzem. Piec, aż będzie złoty i chrupiący, ok 20-25 minut.
Gdy mieszanina osiągnie temperaturę wrzenia, zmniejszyć ogień i dodać mieszaninę skrobi kukurydzianej. Ponownie zagotować i podgrzewać na niewielkim płomieniu, aż sos zgęstnieje (około dwie minuty).
Wkładać partiami pieczony kalafior do sosu i delikatnie wymieszać, aż będzie nim równomiernie nim pokryty.

Hestia
Greek goddess of the hearth, cooking, and households
Hestia (Roman: Vesta) is one of the Olympian gods and is the very force behind what keeps humanity warm and fed. She is the goddess of the hearth (all furnaces, both outdoor and indoor) and presides over cooking, especially the baking of bread. She also represents the sacrificial flame, and during Ancient Greece, she would always receive a share of every sacrifice to the gods. Even the central hearth of a state belonged to her, and the fire was always kept alight in the civic hall. Thus, all fireplaces, whether they be for warmth, food, worship, or for different use, are all part of Hestia’s domain. Her power extends over these altars and hearths, and therefore all prayers and sacrifices were to end with Hestia, because she is the guardian of the innermost things. Overall, Hestia is the guardian goddess and helper of all meals, feasts, homes, and the gentle comforts of the family hearth.
She is also known as one of the three goddesses of eternal virginity, as they had all chosen to be solely devoted to their divine tasks (the other goddesses being Athena and Artemis). Due to this, Hestia was often given a sacrifice of a one-year-old cow from the Ancient Greeks. As Hestia is the goddess of the hearth, she was looked upon as the sacred centre of all domestic life. Therefore, Hestia is the goddess of domestic life and is the giver of all domestic happiness and blessings, and as such, she was believed to dwell in the inner part of every house as a guardian. For this reason, the hearth of every home became the common place of prayer for Hestia, allowing worshippers to pray for the goddess’ protection over their family members. Moreso, Hestia was believed by the Greeks to have invented the art of building houses so that humans could live in safety and warmth. Because of this, she was often shown together with Hermes, who was likewise known for protecting the works of mankind. For all of this and more, Hestia is an extremely important and loving goddess who always deserves to be honoured.
Depictions: Hestia was depicted as a modestly veiled woman, sometimes holding a branch of a chaste-tree (representing her virginity). Other times, she was shown with a kettle, which is her attribute due to it being used to boil water over her fires so people could cook or utilize it for other needs.
Mythology: Hestia was the first-born child of Kronos and Rhea, the Titan gods who also bore Zeus, Poseidon, and many others. When Kronos began devouring his children, Rhea secretly gave her last child, Zeus, to a nymph to be raised in safety. Eventually, Zeus returned and fought Kronos until he was forced to disgorge all of his children, with Hestia being freed last since she was born first. Thus, she was named the eldest and youngest of the children of Kronos. Overtime, Hestia became desired after by gods such as Apollo and Poseidon and they sought to marry her. Yet Hestia refused and came to Zeus, asking him to let her remain an eternal virgin. Zeus agreed and Hestia became one of the three Virgin Goddesses, as well as the sacred watcher of the heavenly hearth of Olympus.
Homeric Hymn 24 to Hestia: “Hestia, in the high dwellings of all, both deathless gods and men who walk on earth, you have gained an everlasting abode and highest honour: glorious is your portion and your right. For without you mortals hold no banquet, --where one does not duly pour sweet wine in offering to Hestia both first and last…”
Appearance: a woman in her 30’s with light brown hair that is loosely tied back (in common Ancient Greek style), she wears cream-coloured Greek robes and sandals
Personality: Overall, Hestia is very calm, introverted, docile, humble, good-natured, generous, patient, and easily pleased. She always loves to clean, cook, grant hospitality to others, and do all things associated with a typical domestic woman, taking pleasure in doing these more than anything else. Hestia is also very loving towards animals and always refuses to eat them or have them killed for her as offerings. She doesn’t have any sacred animals, but out of all of them, she favours chickens the most and guards over them.
Ever since the Greeks were brutally killed by Christians and forced into converting, Hestia has been long-forgotten by humanity and has become deeply depressed. She is very sad nowadays and weeps due to her neglection; yearning for the same love and gratitude that she once had. She tends to be very welcoming towards people who approach her and wishes to be close to us once more, rather than being discarded or seen as boring. Even just adoration and humble offerings towards Hestia make her very happy.
Some of her epithets:
Äídios – eternal
Polýmorphos – multi-formed (of many hearths)
Polýolvos – rich in blessings
Potheinotáti – beloved
Voulaia – of the council
Offerings: honey mead, diluted white wine, milk, herbal infusions, mild teas (chamomile, etc), pomegranates, lemons, apples, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions, cauliflower, olives, loaves of bread, vegetable soup, baked potatoes, eggs, yoghurt, smooth pebbles, clay tiles (to be offering dishes), flower wreaths, wild flowers, bouquets, chaste-tree flowers, wheat, beans, peas, grain, almonds, walnuts, raisins, salt, vegetable oil, olive oil, dark brown or beige napkins, bronze coins, Chinese bronze coins, firewood, family photos, anything that invokes feelings/memories of home, white linen to cover her altar, circular honey-coloured candles, beeswax candles, and incense of sandalwood + cinnamon + basil
*It is respectful to offer a prayer of gratitude to her before eating cooked meals
*Do not offer meat since she is vegetarian. Also make certain to devote your oven to her since it is needed for her rituals; if you have a fireplace, this can be devoted as well

Ore Bengali………tui Khabar er Sera
Ore Bengali………tui Khabar er Sera
The meaning of the above phrase: Oh! Bengali……you are best in Food culture…you are best in Football…you lost your everything……..in spending on foods and parties…..
It was a very old saying about a Bengali babu. Food has always been a weakness for Bengalis. In those days Bengalis used to spend a large amount of money just for the sake of food. A Bengali babu has never hesitated in throwing a party to others, and if for the sake of it, they had to exhaust all their wealth they never did minded at all. Not only in marriage ceremonies, any occasion to them was a party time and in these parties lavish expenditure on food reduced many to a popper. Bengalis have been winners in all the delicacies they have presented to the world. Not just mutton, fish and vegetables but the variety of confections and array of fruit dishes have always overawed the gluttons of the world.
Fish has always played an important role in Bengali culture.”Maach Bhhat Banaye Bangali” or “Mache bhate khanate Bengali” these phrases describes the intimacy of fish in Bengali culture. Also it should be noted that fish is very nutritious as well as it’s a good source of protein. It is the most reliable source of protein for over one million people all over the world. Fish is among the most common food allergens.
There are lots of variety of fish that adheres to the Bengali culture. The most famous being Hilsa fish (Ilish) and Lobster (Golda, Bagda).Other famous fish includes Tengra, Parshe, Pabda, Gurjawali, Arr,Gule,Pakal,Kajri,Telapiya…..to name a few.
Some famous fish dishes include Ilish macher sorshe paturi(Hilsa fish in mustard curry binded in banana leaves), ilish maach bhappe(Steamed Ilish),ilish mach kancha kumror jhool(Hilsa with pumpkin),Ilish macher kaachkola diye jhool(hilsa fish with kacha kela),Daab chingri(Prawns with Coconut),Chitol macher Muitha(Chitol fish recipe),Mourala Batichochori(Mourala delicacy), Rui Macher Golap Soru(Fish and Rice cooked together), Koi Macher er horogouri , Koi macher Ganga Jamuna…..and lots of more.
In both parts of Bengal (West Bengal and East Bengal-Bangladesh) fish forms the main recipe. Typically in Bangladesh there is special variety or style of cooking fish. Particularly Chattagram (Chittagong), Lakhipur
these sea facing areas dry up the fishes and cook them with Brinjal and potatoes. This variety is known as “Shutki”. It is a complete East Bengal delicacy. In Dhaka people are more fond of Hilsa and other fishes. In fact the most famous recipe of fishes comes from Dhaka.
A Bengali marriage without fish dishes is incomplete. In marriage special fish dishes include “Rui Macher Kalia” (Rui Fish Curry), “Macher Matha diye Dal” (Dal with Fish Head), “Bhetki Paturi” (Bhetki in Mustard Sauce), “Chingri Macher Malaikari” (Prawns in Coconut curry), “Rui Posto” (Rui in Khus Khus curry), “Ilish Paturi” to name a few. In modern days new dishes like Fish Butter Fry or Fish Orley are also considered.
Fish apart from being taken as food is also considered to be pious. In Hindu culture it is widely used during Saraswati Puja (Jora Ilish’er Bhog). In famous Kali Temple in Kolkata as well as in Dhakeshwari in Dhaka fish is offered to Devi Kali. Fish is often considered as Lakshmi according to Hindu Tradition. In Bengal, before going out of their homes people like to see a fish as because it is considered a lucky one.
Apart from fish, Mutton is a favourite food of Bengal. Some of the mutton dishes include “Kosha Mangsho”( Mutton Curry), “Koch Pathar Jhol” (Mutton Thin Curry), “Mutton Chap in Bengali style”, “Mangshor Jhol” (Mutton Stew) , “Bhojoharir Mangsho” (Mutton dish by Famous imaginary Bengali cook named Bhojohari Manna), “Mangshor Patla Jhol” (Special Mutton Curry) , “ Mutton Dakbanglo” (A dish of Mutton Served during the British Raj), to name a few. Mutton is a must in a Marriage. Mutton is offered to Devi Kali by giving ‘Bali’ to the Devi. So in religion it takes an important place.
Chicken does is not included in traditional Bengali food list. In olden days Hindus of Bengal strictly avoided chicken. But Muslim Bengalis used to have chicken. But with the advancement of days people started to take up chicken. Also with the rise up in cost of mutton chicken is a replacement for mutton.

The 10 Best Tasting Menus In NYC Under $100
Tasting menus are experiences often reserved for special occasions since prices can start at several hundred dollars per person. New York City fortunately offers some great options to experience this kind of high-end dining without waiting until your next birthday or anniversary.
RoundTable is an online restaurant guide built by a community of local experts who know where to eat. James Beard award-winning chefs, internationally acclaimed sommeliers and popular food writers curate lists of the best places to dine and drink in New York City and beyond.
Here, some of those experts share what they think are the best tasting menus around NYC for under $100.
1. Contra
"Contra is value of the best kind. An extraordinary dining experience with unanticipated culinary creations that change almost daily, dinner at Contra provides no dull moments. The tasting menu is $67 for 7 courses, 2 (read: two!) of which are dessert. Believe me you'll be begging for a 3rd. This is a place where you only take the ones you care about."
-Sagan Schultz, Sommelier at Terroir Wine Bar
2. The Musket Room
"Beautiful platings and delicate food are coming out of the kitchen at The Musket Room from Chef Matt Lambert (AKA Musket Matt). The dining room is a perfect cozy getaway from busy Elizabeth Street in SoHo. They are serving up Matt's interpretation of New Zealand fare and their $75 6-course tasting menu is the best way to sample highlights from his menu. They have a wine list comprised almost entirely of New Zealand wine, a spectacular cocktail program and you can even add a few more courses for just $15 each. Enjoy this feel good spot and don't miss any rendition of his foie gras torchon!"
-Tom Favorule, Service Manager at La Sirena
3. Pig & Khao
"Pig and Khao is the LES restaurant of Top Chef alum Leah Cohen. She draws on heavy Thai and Filipino influences for her Southeastern Asia inspired menu. During the week (and sometimes on a slow Sunday) she offers a $45, 5-course tasting menu. Items that can't be missed include the 'Sizzling Sisig,' a kind of pig's head hash served in a blazing hot cast iron plate and topped with a whole egg for you to break and stir in at the table, and the 'Singaporean Skate Wing,' a succulent skate wing steamed to perfection inside of a banana leaf and served with a sambal and kalamansi sauce. Her menu changes with the seasons, though there are some favorites that remain constant. The chicharrons are a must and go great with a pork slap beer, indicative of the well-assembled, eclectic beer and cocktail selection. They offer seating on the outdoor patio during the warmer weather, and I highly recommend a seat at the chef's counter if it's available."
-Jared Radas, Sous Chef at Marea
4. Hearth
"Hearth is one of New York's most consistently excellent restaurants. The tasting menu is only $78 bucks for six courses out of Chef Marco Canora's traditional Italian kitchen. The food is always thoughtful and the ingredients top-notch. While he doesn't lean on any particular region out of the Italian cannon, you are also not eating the this-came-from-nowhere style of Italian-American cooking that passes at so many of America's red sauce joints. There will be no baked ziti or chicken parm here. And even if there is a dish that resembles those, it'll be better than anything you've ever tasted. There are few other dining experiences that offer better dollars-in to satisfaction-out in New York. Service is relaxed and casual, but relatively precise."
-Morgan Harris, Sommelier at Aureole Restaurant
5. Babu Ji
"Babu Ji opened last June in Alphabet City and offers playful Indian street food with a modern twist. The classic flavors of indian curries and spice are all there yet those spices are mixed with underlying tones that you can't quite pinpoint. Babu Ji is a fun way to experience Indian cuisine. Try the Colonel Tso's Cauliflower, the Butter Chicken and Babu's Daal. A word of warning though, the place is ALWAYS busy with excruciating wait times. Try making a reservation online for the $62 tasting menu."
-Ida Rae Zapanta, Restaurant Consultant and former Sommelier at Le Bernardin
6. Mission Chinese Food
"Any place that serves delicious pizza and Chinese food is bound to be a mecca for those seeking comfort foods. The standouts here are their tasting menus where one is offered for $69 and the other at $99. I highly suggest the latter since it comes with a "cocktail cart." Yes, it is as magical as it seems. The hip restaurant is all the rage these days and the dinner set allows you to try a lot of what makes them so great without having to think. And any place that includes alcohol in a tasting menu is ok in my book. They're also open relatively late which is great for us industry folk keen on a late-night bite such as their green papaya and banana blossom salad."
-Victoria James, Wine Director at Piora
7. Meadowsweet
"Meadowsweet, in my opinion, is not just one of the most underrated restaurants in Brooklyn but in NYC in general. They have a great mix of ambiance and food. The music, drinks, vibe are always on point and the food is killer. They have some delicious pastas (think truffles) and a must-try artichoke salad! If you go there Sunday through Thursday, they have 5-course Chef's tasting menu for $75. I've always had A+ meals there."
-David Berson, VP at Peter Luger Steak House
8. Semilla
I am confident to say that the best dining experience I had in all of 2015 was my birthday dinner at Semilla. They offer a tasting menu for $85. The chefs and servers all shared their food with genuine joy making us feel like extended family as they delivered one breathtaking dish after another. The night turned into an endless blur of 'food moments', like when you take a bite of something unknown and don't know what to expect but the experience really moves you. It was like being whisked away. The diners do not receive menus; instead you are taken through an unexpected journey of flavors and textures. The bread course was so amazing I begged for seconds and they were happy to oblige and make our meal more special. I highly recommend this comfortable and unassuming spot the next time you're looking for a meal that makes you really feel something special."
-Sydney Wilcox, Culinary Manager at The Brooklyn Kitchen
9. Delaware and Hudson
"I don't often leave Manhattan but for Patti Jackson it's worth the trip. She does amazing work with unique ingredients from local suppliers. This isn't a fancy restaurant, and I appreciate the casual yet hip vibe. It's only $54 per person, and has a selection of great beers and ciders with very reasonable pricing. Be sure to try the buttermilk spaetzle, it's so good!
-Tali Dalbaha, Sommelier at Jean-Georges
10. Battersby
"Battersby offers a 5-course tasting for $75 and a 7-course tasting for $95. It's "improvised" and you will usually receive several courses that are not listed on the menu. Every time we're here the menu is consistently delicious and creative. It's an excellent night out without the pretentiousness that comes along with a lot of Michelin-starred places. You can actually relax and enjoy yourself and your company while still being served in quality fashion."
-Regina Myers Magazini, Owner/operator of Black Mountain Wine House, Bar San Miguel and more

Group Friendly: Restaurants in Toronto
New Post has been published on https://www.travelonlinetips.com/group-friendly-restaurants-in-toronto-2/
Group Friendly: Restaurants in Toronto
It can be hard enough to organize an event that organizes a group of people in Toronto. Trying to find a restaurant that not only accommodates everyone but also happily satiates them can be hard. No one wants to wait in a line or get shoved into a corner. No one puts baby in the corner (Dirty Dancing reference for those not up on their 80s film classics) and no one will put your people in a corner with these 10 Best picks.
There are choices for the talkative and rowdy, such as Wvrst which has a casual, beer hall mentality with beer flights and duck fries to make everyone happy. Or, if you like sushi and a lot of yelling, try out the infectiously vibrant Japanese restaurant Guu Izakaya.
Sometimes you need a little more class than sass. Cluny has an atmosphere that warrants a little dressing up, but will happily welcome those in stretchy pants who intend to do Cluny’s bread products justice. In today’s day and age, stretchy pants always have to be an option.
Determine the attitude of the company you keep and match the style of restaurant and ultimately everyone will be happy, whether you are hosting a discerning aunt or your friend who always seems to have a mustard stain on his lapel.
The food photos from Fishman Lobster Clubhouse are so voluminous, so mountainous, that it seems that this restaurant might scoff at a party of one. All parties are welcome, but the platters of seafood at Fishman Lobster Clubhouse seem more aptly suited for a ravenous group. Tables shudder under the weight of crab legs or Hong Kong style lobster. Floor to ceiling fish tanks house gigantic crustaceans. There is a lobster tower on the menu, if towers of seafood fit the bill for your group. As a warning, it weighs 50 pounds and costs almost $700 (for around 10 people), but it may be economical depending on the size of the stomachs in your company.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Lobsters and snow crabs in ample quantity for any size group.
Courtney’s expert tip: The set menu is a great deal for a smaller group and will certainly fill your bellies.

Since Hong Kong-born chef Susur Lee arrived in Canada in 1978, he’s built a reputation on inventive cuisine that fuses the dishes of his homeland with other global influences. Lee is his flagship Toronto restaurant, with a menu that is built around sharable tapas-sized plates. Expect the unexpected with a mashup of Asian and French flavours. Chef Lee’s Singapore Slaw has been a fixture on the menu for years and is well worth the splurge. The presentation is impressive, with the salad mixed at the table and sculpted into a tower. Inventive ingredients range from daikon to fennel seedlings and edible flower petals. Save room for an inventive dessert, such as the French and Chinese Tong Yuen with a rice dumpling, chocolate nougat, Indian pastry and strawberry/creme brûlée. What?!?
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Susur Lee’s restaurant is a fantastic place to share a memorable foodie experience with your group.
Courtney’s expert tip: It’s super easy to book a private dining experience for your group at Lee. Check out their website for more details.

When you walk into the carbon bar, you feel like you have stepped into the future, with sky high ceilings and glowing white lamps. There is a lot of history in this building (it was once a Disney dance studio!) but now it is all delicious BBQ bites, like the wood fired sweet and spicy ribs with coleslaw and dill pickles. There are also a host of snacks (crocodile bites, anyone?) and craft cocktails that are impressively balanced. Private dining is divine here, with a chef’s table option for a group up to 14, or for larger groups there is the Green Room, an upstairs private dining space which gives a prime view of the dining room.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: BBQ heaven and a private dining room – nothing wrong with that.
Courtney’s expert tip: The carbon bar has catering available for groups of 8 of more (must be placed 48 hours in advance), if you decide to keep your group at home.

Take the “a” off of “Planta” and you will realize what this restaurant is all about (and it’s not the hokey pokey). Marketed as plant-based cuisine rather than vegan, this fresh and airy restaurant specializes in delicious food from around the globe that any meat-eater would be proud to chomp. Planta burgers have queso, pickles, buffalo aioli and spiced fries. Enjoy cashew mozzarella, ranch dressing and cauliflower on your pizza. The creative and innovative dishes are plated beautifully and and the light and airy dining room and private dining area will impress your group.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Plant-based dining is sexy and hip. What better way to show off to your friends?
Courtney’s expert tip: Larger groups are suggested to book through the private events link on their webpage.

Luma is a wonderful restaurant to stop by if you are in the heart of the city. Right on King Street around everything that is buzzing, the warm wood within the restaurant offsets the surrounding hustle and bustle. Luma is an Oliver & Bonacini restaurant that has many menus to complement the time of day you choose to dine. You have lunch, dinner or dessert, of course, but there is also a post 3pm lounge menu. The menu is seafood heavy and includes such gems as clam carbonara and miso cod with maple syrup. The Manhattans are named after neighbourhoods in Toronto (the High Park; the North York). It is worth saving room for the desserts, with an amazing “chocolate bar” which is like a soft dark chocolate brownie layered with banana and peanut butter ice cream. Heaven.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Upscale and chic, the location couldn’t be more convenient. Let your group congregate in the heart of the city over excellent food.
Courtney’s expert tip: Luma is available for private events on Sundays, so do contact them if this is something of interest to you.

Blu is the kind of fine dining you want to make time for, although it won’t take much time to have a superb group experience. There are three private dining restaurant rooms, one for 12 guests, one for between 12-20 and one for 22-30. You can also fully buy out the restaurant for an event with 100 guests. Whether you go with a small crowd or a giant one, Blu is the perfect place to slurp some pasta with someone you love (or at the very least, like). Try the truffle wild boar ragu with wild mushrooms over sweet potato and ricotta gnocchi for a dish that will make your eyes roll back into your head.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Whether you are planning a breakfast meeting or a family reunion, Blu is the perfect place to eat well and sit together.
Courtney’s expert tip: Audio visual equipment is available at Blu to make your next breakfast meeting even simpler. They are private rooms, but not completely soundproof, so may want to keep the long-winded speeches to a minimum.

Japanese restaurant. Tapas restaurant. Drinking establishment which serves food to accompany the drinks (at least according to the definition of Izakaya). Guu Izakaya does it all. This lively and energetic restaurant opened in 2011 after being acclaimed in Vancouver. Communal style tables encourage strangers to get friendly as they share the experience of eating Japanese comfort food. Baked oysters, beef tongue, almond tofu, sashimi salad and bibimbap are some of the options, and all are exquisite. Dishes are great for sharing, and you can sit at the bar to watch the food being cooked. Don’t miss the cocktail and sake list. A couple of drinks will put you in the right Guu mood.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: This restaurant is already noisy, so your group won’t even make a dent in the energy. Bring your rowdy friends.
Courtney’s expert tip: If you plan on trying everything, order at least two of each dish for a large group and pass everything around. Now is the time to try angus beef tongue.

Cluny Bistro takes French food and makes it unfussy. You can have your caramelized onion soup and moules frites but you don’t need to have a side of snobbery. Even so, the backdrop for your dining experience is absolutely stunning with high ceilings and may have you convinced that the Eiffel Tower is within walking distance. Groups are more than welcome with a private dining area just for the occasion. The boulangerie is more of the takeaway aspect of the restaurant, with all things pastry waiting to be fawned over and taken home in a paper bag. But make sure to enjoy the classic French dishes on a plate, like the foie gras eclairs or the fried frogs legs. The large patio fits 100 people and its cobblestone floor transports you right to France.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Joie de vivre isn’t something you should keep to yourself.
Courtney’s expert tip: There are a wide variety of cocktails, but there are also fantastic mocktails if you choose not to imbibe.

The world can be divided into two groups of people: those who say “yay” to a beer hall and those who say “nay.” For those who are in the “yay” category, Wvrst is an informal way to have a lot of fun (and potentially a lot of beer). With communal tables encouraging friendly banter, this King Street located, Munich-style beer hall specializes in all-natural sausage (as you may have guessed from the name). Vegetarians have a ton of options, from the beyond sausages to black bean, green curry and more. Meat eaters have even more variety, from kangaroo to wild boar to rabbit. There are also duck fat fries with dipping sauces. The food encourages the beer drinking and the beer drinking encourages hunger to persist. It is a feedback loop that is just perfect for those “yay” sayers.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Whether or not you come with a group, Wvrst’s communal tables make you feel part of something greater than yourself. Is that the beer talking?
Courtney’s expert tip: Get the fries with a series of dipping sauces. Truffle mushroom mayo? Come ON.

You can certainly judge the closeness of your friendship by how much guacamole you are willing to share with someone. Prepared table side, El Catrin’s comes with avocado, tomato, onion, fresh cilantro and serrano chilis. Plates are tapas style, all the better to share with your group of ravenous friends. If coming with a crowd, you must get El Jefe’s taco feast, or 2 of every taco on the menu (which has everything from beef to chipotle stewed shrimp to charred chayote squash). There are semi-private dining spaces for groups of 13 or more. Did we mention that there is the largest tequila collection in the country here? Bottoms up.
Recommended for Group Friendly because: Tequila, large open spaces and sharable Mexican food make El Catrin a group positive destination.
Courtney’s expert tip: This is one of the best patios in the city. Go on a beautiful day and try to tear yourself away from the margaritas. Or brave a cold winter day by the fire pits and be rewarded with a brunch that is 50% off.
