I love the super powerful but easily spooked wooden sword wielding Mt. Wangcheng disciple, kid you *really* don't need to try study under Master Li, just because he's "the" shifu doesn't mean he's better. He will teach you nothing and isn't batting an eye at his exam candidates dying right under his eyes. Srsly, Mt. Wangcheng, the Lei family and Changfeng's Medicine Shifu's Valley seem to be the only places suitable to bring up well-adjusted, grounded kids in this universe.

They are easily suspectible to being used by bad forces and eventually create massive tragedies for themselves and everyone else.

Well I suppose Dongjun's first shifu was a great guy but 1. He didn't have enough time 2. Even if he did he was dying and sustaining himself in a contained bubble and what he could teach Dongjun about the world was quite limited.

Liu Yue thinks he hides it well behind his hat but dude is practically bursting at seams for having gotten a disciple, and he's basically teaching Yue Yao how to flex well and never embarrass herself, which in addition would embarrass himself lol. He also seems to be kinda lonely and bored despite his quirky lil maid and broody bf. It's like he was born to be a social butterfly but with his current social status he cannot.

Baili Dongjun gotta be the naivest ML I've encountered in a while, and by naive I mean beyond the levels of your average innocent, inexperienced teen full of sunlight and getting jaded overtime such as Fang Duobing, Wu Xie, Zhang Chulan etc.

Dongjun has grown up so sheltered and full of positivity, he doesn't seem to register the gravity of things even when they are right in front of his face almost to the point of stupidity.

He provides a stark contrast against his friends, Sikong Changfeng who's been the sweetest but also most down-to-earth kid to begin with and Ye Dingzhi who's been dealing with the weight of the whole world since childhood.

That part where Dongjun saw the arrest warrant for Dingzhi who also turned out to be his long lost bff, was told by his elders that they'll take care of the matter and will bring Dingzhi to him, Dongjun was just like "Ok cool! That's settled then! I'm gonna just chill and have a drink with my new girlfriend then!" was almost funny but sad because,

Kid, you are going to be in a WORLD of hurt VERY soon. You trust strangers way too much!

I mean in BoY you see how severely Dongjun has crashed to the point of wanting to create a broth of oblivion..... I can totally see how that happened.

Changfeng chose the most comparatively normal and mundane romance arc too. She's the top courtesan for sure but still, for many young gentry she wouldn't have been anymore worth than a fling, but Changfeng just went ahead and offered her the most genuine, authentic companionship ever without a second of hesitation. And walked out head held high, with ZERO idea about how suave and sexy it made him and I'm like:

Shirtless Nix. 👀 I love the little sweater neck on his mouth and his right hand being entirely covered by his sleeve. But what would the R.N. stand for, Richard Nixon? While not a fan of the design I love the expression of 2. The fact that 4 has a particularly pointy chin freaks me out.

Young Phoenixes! The last panel is just funny to me lmao. In the second panel Nix looks like Garou and him with the lollipop in the first panel reminds me of Child Emperor.

I'm not a big fan of Beanix but I love me some stubble. Not a fan of the nose on 3 and I feel 2 and 3 are too well dressed considering his situation. 1 is more realistic and that expression portrays his solemnness and desperation well. Plus that parka is invoking memories in me...

I hate that Maya was ever doodled as a school girl. I love the design on the lower bottom of the right page, the one with the little handkerchief and box ( reminded of Demon Slayer). I think I still prefer the canon one though. The pigtails and suit design is cute but is definitely not her.

I love the short-hair- in-the-back-long-hair-strands-in-the-front style. Having even more balls to be hanging, like medals almost, especially as time goes on, would be cool. The doodle where Maya is crying invokes unnamed, unpleasant feelings in me.

The majority of the race is in the metamorphic state, so their colours are all drab earthy tones and they're pretty large compared to the ones who haven't gone through metamorphosis

Like in real axolotls, the metamorphosis isn't age based but environment and stress based, and even then the harsh realities of being a space faring dictatorship empire tends to cause the enough ambient stress to start the process

Most Rihas go though metamorphosis before mid life, but beyond that its not predictable with stress or environment change will be enough to cause the change. Its not a puberty thing either, its just a change that this race experiences, so the culture doesn't associate "pre metamorphosis" with "child"; which has its own issues.

Its also not something that happened prior to joining the greater cosmic community, so it's relatively recent, and really only started after the Phrontra people (responsible for like 98% of the super tech of the universe) started experimenting on the Rihasian people to study them/their genome and what could be learned/used from it. This has supposedly stopped and been outlawed, but the hatred of the Phrontra by the Rihas is forever.

Metamorphosis is not gradual enough to be comfortable (so like imagination all of your puberty growth and body changes in about a month) and is not reversible, they lose the "halo" of fins they hatch with, bulk up and round out, and generally double in size. There is no research happening to find a preventative measure for metamorphosis.

There's only like 3% of the race that remain "cute and tiny" regardless of environment, and they tend to be treasured like idols because they stay in their soft bright colours

But there's also this like hate/jealousy towards them because they stay beautiful forever and its assumed that person has lived a life of luxury/can't relate to the everyman. Even the god emporer has gone through metamorphosis, but the last remaining princess hasn't so "she must have been pampered".

There's a huge make up industry, especially in the mating age demographic, but it's not really helping their people do anything but favor vanity and become shallower. (But make up research was cheaper than medical researvh, and the emporer is kind of a selfish ass)

The emperer sounds like Bender Futurama. I don't know how to portray that in words yet.

The emperor doesn't see a point in educating his subjects and is generally considered a god king. He spends lives and resources like water and is generally just really shitty. If the Rihas weren't plentiful in number and didn't make a fortune off of reparations from the Phrontra thing, they wouldn't have the military might they do. The are one of the major powers in Terminus Space.

The emperor used the cute princess as a mascot for their army until the general unrest from the empoverished public rose so much that he was going to execute her. She served her purpose. Unfortunately she's the last child of her clutch, since her shortsighted father had executed or got all her other siblings killed in their expansion efforts. DW tho, this princess stayed alive this long thanks to her cunning

My big goal for this is the princess will go out into the universe and learn some perspective and wisdom to go with that cunning and become one of the most formidable leaders in all of the Illuminated Universe.

Since Axolotls are named for the Aztec god Xolotl, I'm hoping to make a lot of the naming and imagery Aztec in nature, but I'm still in the process of researching this and figuring out how to do it respectfully.

Gem's kingdom is really cute. Just saying it now, I adore sunrise and sunset colors, I hope she somehow incorporates magenta and pink into her build pallette which are underrated sunset and sunrise colors, the pink and purple being the colors right between night and day, dusk and dawn.

The soul fire will-o-the-wisp is a nice touch for lore.

I hope she and Katherine get into a Princess quest thing soon. Afaik they're canonically the only self-identifying princesses of the server.

When she was 5 she fell into the bi through a leak between worlds(this is an overused trope Ik but I couldn't figure out something else) and Luz finds her while walking around and takes her in.

She's currently 16 yo in this AU, she's part of the "empress' coven" (aka this AU's version on the emperor's coven) but Luz doesn't really send her on missions because she thinks she's too young for that, also she's human and can't do that much magic anyway so-

I imagine Luz and lilith are very close in this AU and Luz is a good parental figure(though there are some misunderstandings and Luz being a tired kinda scary ruler)

They are very cute tho, the dynamic I imagined for them in this AU is kinda nice(this au is very self indulgent Ik but let me dream)

overall good episode (i say this after every episode but each episode has been Really Good this season)

this ep was a bit slower? like theoretically i feel like not much happened but i think a lot of things finally came together (ex: Raine's bard rebellion and Darius also working with them, what happened when Raine was kidnapped, the emotional aftermath of the last few episodes are kinda finally being dealt with (king needing a little roadtrip buddy time, luz showing how she feels this is all up to her even though its not probably because of how traumatizing hollow mind was), steve)

very wholesome! i think if this season was binged this episode helps like viewers put everything together and lets things resonate more? for awhile it was each ep seemed to introduce or reveal new information and i think this ep wasn't so much a grand reveal as more so putting together things and giving time for these to settle in our heads

i really like how the responsibility does not fully rest on Luz

idk it is always annoying how "the chosen one" tends to be a kid

and just how the concept of a chosen one creates a narrative of individualism where as much as others can help it is inevitably up to an individual to stop the evil

while here we get to see a community forming to take this burden up together! this does not rest on one person!

tho i really did tear up a little when eda explained why she didn't want luz to come with them idk something about how she cares and how she was willing to go in with no plan to fight the emperor since what matters most is luz's and king's safety... she has questionable parenting skills but eda mom arc,,,,

also the idea that the boiling isles has therapy is so hhhhHHH

i feel like a lot of fantasy works don't really consider therapy or make it part of the universe

but also this is so funny because so many people here need therapy

especially since season 3 is only 3 44-minute specials,,, idk i wish we could get another full season? i am not really ready to let go of this show and i feel like there's still a lot to deal with after they defeat belos (luz's portal, her promise to her mom vs all her relationships in the Boiling Isles (idk she has like no friends in the human realm,,,), boiling isles reconstruction era + reintroduction of wild magic, also like what does the collector want?? are we just gonna somehow slide that into the next two episodes,,,,)

actually it would be interesting if they were planning something similar to season 3 of legend of korra where we saw how the harmonic convergence led to a kind of weakening between the spirit and human realms leading to more air benders and also those weird vines,,,

but like instead it would be belos does open the portal to earth but fails to kill the witches so like a merging of the two worlds and dealing with that? idk i personally like that because it erases the conflict of luz between worlds but allows for other conflicts to arise

Notes: I CANNOT BELIEVE I SLEPT ON THIS FIC FOR SO LONG. Read it and I mean it! I admitted initially steered clear of this fic because I wasn’t comforted with a soulmate tartali fic pre-Osial but this fic is actually post-Ostial *facepalm* The writing is phenomenal and Aevas does some beautiful worldbuilding that you typically don’t see in Genshin Impact fics. I love the dynamic between Childe and Zhongli here and the angst is real. The author writes the two as very human characters who makes mistakes, etc. and notably Zhongli struggles with the concept of Childe as his soulmate (who understandably is upset by the rejection when he realizes). They get better though. Also very plotty. A+ writing.

Notes: Very lighthearted, humor-filled fic. Love how Azhdaha is so flippant. Interactions with Zhongli and Childe are pure gold.

Notes: This is sort of a classic amnesia fic. I particularly really liked the way that Kaeya was written in this. I feel like the author did a really good job nailing his character and they have a way of capturing the subtle things.

(Osial was screaming. When had the other god become like this?! Had he always been like this?!)

Concubine AU where Zhongli is Emperor, Xiao is an assassin sent to kill him while disguised as a woman in his imperial harem, and the only reason he doesn't actually do it is because he pities Zhongli for being so catastrophically stupid (also Xiao falls in love).

Notes: Like Xiao says, Zhongli is an idiot. Fluff and humor filled. Xiao spends a good 95% of this exasperated by Zhongli’s bullshit.

It explores the aftermath of the Osial Incident and how Zhongli and Childe reconnect. Platonically...though I guess it can be read romantically.

Childe pulls (? on accident or on purpose, I can not tell) the equivalent of leaving the jacket in the car post-date to get date to call for the second date. Also, the author has a gift for like...writing angst...without writing angst? Like the whole fic is like brimming with everything that the characters aren’t saying but the thoughts aren’t necessarily written out BUT YOU KNOW THOSE DUMBFUCKS ARE JUST LIKE. BRIMMING WITH FEELS? 

The People of Liyue by queer_occurrences

But Zhongli whispers, his low voice rooted in the back of Childe’s mind. “Changsun, the merchant, who is never too Mora-enthralled to turn away a needy child. There’s Tiantian—she will allow anyone to join the Adventurer’s Guild—she knows what it is to be desperate.”

Childe ducks away from them and hurries out over the bridge. It’s a warm, sunny day, the kind he would have complained about, whining about his delicate Snezhnayan skin. “It’ll burn, or worse, freckle. Would you still like me if I was freckled?”

Then Zhongli would say, “The people of Liyue will remember your sacrifice.” And he would wrinkle his nose.

Notes: The author has a way with perfectly balancing angst with humor in a way that makes you cackle. There’s a lot of feels in this one. Zhongli tries communicating--Childe runs away a lot. There’s a lot of love for Liyue in this one.

Escaping Expulsion Thoughts (once again very stream of conscious-like while i rewatched the episode so there’s a bunch of stuff here)

i fucking knew odalia was gonna be an oracle, i knew and i hate that for her family. i’m not sure if this necklace thing is specifically a form of oracle magic or not but im assuming it is, and either way the second i saw it happen that made my stomach twist. the fact that she just keeps this direct line to her daughter at all times feels so disturbing

so, i get that the joke with glyph lessons here is that eda and lilith are probably acting the exact same way they did when they were younger, but it does also feel a little odd for me. in my post for episode 1 i talked about how it felt like lilith probably missed the structure of the coven, and maybe even having an authority figure, and it does concern me a bit that it could be projected on to luz here. 

also, i saw someone mention that they thought lilith could be regressing a bit, which is interesting seeing as she’s been in the coven since basically being a child and now that she’s out, she could be going backwards because that was probably the last time she had a personality of her own instead of one that was carefully crafted to be socially acceptable for others. and to be fair, the few moments in season 1 when we see glimpses into the true lilith, she is pretty childish.

i love that willow stated they would get back in on their own right in front of alador and odalia. these people fucked up her friendship and caused her a lot of trouble that she shouldn’t have had to deal with so i love that she’s unafraid to speak like that in front of them

between the first & second episode, and some of the seasons trailer, it seems like Lilith may have an affinity for ice magic? which is interesting seeing as eda was always a fan of her “spicy toss” aka some fire magic. interesting to see the two of them as fire & ice basically

i LOVE how much bump loves luz, willow, and gus. it’s kinda really sweet, but again it feels so concerning that he had no choice in the matter. makes me think he’s more likely to eventually rebel against the standards that have been in place for so long at some point. (also abominations coven for bump!! interesting!! i appreciate seeing the coven marks included on the adults so far)

what is it with these kids and being dragged off by their hoods in this episode

love that the blights address includes “right arm”, also i took a quick look up of the word “bruegal” which is boulevard they live on, and it’s probably just a coincidence but the first google result was actually for a european think tank that specializes in economics

yknow i actually have wondered about layering glyphs on top of each other and making a super glyph the way eda did, so good to know that would NOT work out

it goes by so fast but please take a moment to take in and appreciate the design of that blight entry room/living room-esque area and it’s combination of abomination and oracle decor. also the blight family portrait.

i could talk about alador and odalia and their relationship dynamic here, when luz is meeting with them, but i think it’s best to save for the end, but i will say i don’t think it’s just odalia controlling everything (though she does control a lot) and alador just suffering and being silent. 

the more i stare at odalia’s hair the more i feel like she has an odd receding hairline

love that the abomination kept the cat shape luz gave it and that amity knew immediately from that

WILLOW’S DADS!!! I LOVE THEM! I love how much they want their daughter to have a great education even if they have to be the ones to do it! (even if it could come across as a little intense) Although, the fact that they’re prepared to teach plant magic to her makes me question why they put her in abominations once again. (wish we could’ve gotten a glimpse of their coven marks!)

odalia is definitely the one who handles more of the parenting and alador is more distant. at least that’s what i get based on the twins specifying to amity not to tell their mom specifically

i like how lilith can’t tell if these are normal noises or distress ones. really sums up life in the owl house. also lilith? kicking doors in?? this combined with “I AM A WITCH, UNHINGED” tells me she’ll be as chaotic as the rest of the owl house in no time and i am here for it.

okay, i know a lot of people have already suggested that alador is smiling here because he can tell luz and amity like each other, but i’m pretty sure it’s only because he’s noticing how much amity’s magic has grown and improved

small detail but i love the smoke from the units order sign filling the background while odalia is fuming herself

oh? alador has had the ability to tell odalia off and successfully calm her down this whole time? and chose not to use it till now? yeah he sucks too. he very clearly has a plan for amity as much as odalia does as well, but he’s much better at seeing the long-term goal

ok i really wish eda or lilith asked where luz had been. i’d kill for these sisters to go off about how much they hated the alador and odalia in school, as well as threaten to hurt them for hurting luz.

the statue lilith made and her reaction to the gold star she received re-emphasizes my concern about her need for approval and for an authority figure. (ok but her noise at the gold star WAS very cute tho)

alright lets get down to business on the blight parents. so far i definitely do not view their relationship as being one-sided with odalia in control. honestly, i think they do have a sense of mutual respect for the other. to me it seems like all alador really wants to do is focus on his work and nothing else, and odalia seems not only more than happy to let him do so, but willing to take care of everything else the company needs, and he seems fine with that and going along with whatever because he only has to do his part. and clearly his abomination tech combined with her showmanship/advertising (and honestly probably some oracle magic) has clearly made them successful. 

so what im saying is that i think their power in their relationship is actually pretty balanced, if it looks otherwise that’s just because that’s how they best function together, with odalia being more forward and alador being more distant, and therefore they’re very much both to blame for shitty parenting. 

also I know some people have joked about the blight family name coming from odalia (which is also a dumb joke like why is it funny if the family name comes from the woman and not the man) but anyways I definitely do think blight is aladors family name and odalia married in simply because he takes the whole blights keep up their end of the deal thing much more seriously than odalia. probably something that’s been taught to him since he was a kid yknow, whereas she was super ready to ignore it when it inconvenienced her.

as for the very final scene with them and the golden guard, i had an interpretation of it that i saw, but it seems that everyone else ive see react to it so far saw something different than me so maybe i’m just plain wrong. but like, i have this feeling that maybe the blight parents, while they do want power, might not be as aligned with the emperor and his coven as we may think?? not saying they’re good people, just that there could be more going on here. but idk, i’ve seen no one else interpret it that way yet so i won’t go off about it unless either someone wants to know more of what i thought or if i ever actually make myself get around to making a separate post about it.

ok actual post about my thoughts on s2 of the great. serious actual spoilers below

obviously I loved this season, honestly more than the first one. The parts that really kicked it up notch for me were:

no Leo. I think I liked him the most when he wasn't being a literal writer's tool for Catherine's own plot. It's fine that he was that, but I'm just glad that he was put to bed, just because now it felt like Catherine's struggles were hyper accentuated just thru herself. Elle's acting this season stood out SO MUCH (that final scene left me starstruck. I felt an actual ache in my chest at her despair) and I think it's because everything is so much more personal to Catherine now—her nation, her baby, her mother (lol), and her reluctance and denial for her love of Peter are out in the open when there isn't another focal point, i.e. Leo, in the way of that. Leo had his job in s1 and it was really well done, but there was a part of me filled with relief that he was confirmed dead and gone in ep1 this season.

PETER!!! Obviously. While Peter's depravity in s1 made him fascinating and also very hate worthy (even tho of course that would NEVER scare me off), clearly being "just the husband" has worked him wonders. His demeanor hasn't changed, not really—hes still offensive as fuck, he still does some SHIT things, but he also has more time for nuance, and growth, and things he didn't get when he was just being hurled into life as the emperor. But the difference is now the shit he does affects him and hurts him... and hurts the people he cares for too. The heart he wears on his sleeve not only beats and aches for himself, but for Catherine and Paul too (and Elizabeth). His family 😭

Now for things I liked a lot, just a little more on the side:

Loved the teacher with Orlo (she was so cute) and the little bit of exploration they had with Orlo's sexuality. I hope there's more of the teacher!

Pugachev was so fucking funny and felt very more like a traditional Nicholas Hoult character 😂

Catherine's struggle with her mother being a bit of the same as Peter's with his own

ARCHIE!!!! I really don't care about him, but I think he had a great season. I was far more interested in him as he... fell from grace? If that's the right term to use.

Elizabeth was a standout. Loved her pain, her care, and also, the fact that she's the only person who supports Peter and Catherine and wants their love to succeed.

that one scene with the clearly Muslim guy. While he was also a dick (as everyone is), I really appreciated that. It hit a little bit home—I found our Namaz set a couple of days ago while cleaning and was personally touched by this.

The outfits!!!! Oh my god!!!!

So many small scenes—Velementov and Peter going truffle hunting. When Peter goes to kill Catherine in the state room during the uprising and immediately throws the thought away when he hears her sobbing and sees her grief, instead immediately trying to make her feel better. Nearly every Orlo scene.

I could keep going but I do wanna mention some things that I wasn't quite a fan of. It didn't bother me much at all, but I think they could've been done better.

Grigor and Marial. I think this is a popular take. It seemed a bit of a random pairing, even though it's such a prominent thing in this season. I was fine with Grigor and George drifting apart, but adding Marial into the mix was... a choice. I ran with it, because whatever, it's a fucked up court anyway and Marial literally married her child cousin for inheritance reasons, so Marial and Grigor being virgins reunited or whatever was the tamest story and didn't bother me at all. Just probably should've been hinted at in s1 at some point.

I know I just said I loved basically every Orlo scene, but honestly I think Orlo got a bit shafted this season. They seemed to make more room for Peter's friends and less for Orlo. I remember more of what happened with Arkady, who was barely there in s1, than some of the other things. This tends to happen in a lot of shows, where some side characters get more time/some more side characters are introduced (the royals from Sweden LMAO) but it tends to sideline some of the more main characters. Sucks that it happened to Orlo and not to, say, Velementov or someone.

I was expecting a little more of Catherine's mother—not personality wise, but literally screen time wise. They did market her a lot in some of the spot teasers, because why wouldn't u market Gillian Anderson, but she was really only in it for two episodes. I don't blame the show for only having her in a couple of eps, though. There was a lot to cover.

and on that note, I do have to say, I'm sure there will be a lot of people screaming about Peter fucking Catherine's mom. I don't care. They explained it in the show, it doesn't change anything for me, and it's already such a messed up court that it doesn't break any show rules or anything. Elizabeth said it best in the carriage ride back with Catherine in the last episode. Absolutely not a deal breaker for me. In fact, when Peter apologized at the wedding, I felt so bad for both him and Catherine that it made me root for them more. I'm excited to see what'll happen in s3, if it theoretically is renewed (I'm sure it will be). How Catherine and Peter will approach their relationship knowing that that was what finally tipped Catherine over the edge to trying to kill Peter—as well as tipping her over the edge in acknowledging how much she loves him—I'm so eager to see where it goes.

anyway! long post!! I loved this season so much! I'm sure there are many people with their own criticisms of it, but it definitely made me giddy. 100% on board for whatever shit they wanna do in the next season!!!

My thoughts during the episode "hunting palismen" from the owl house because why not? A lot of people probably thought about the same thing (Long post btw)

Okay first I just wanna say, the moment Belos asked for more palismen I was concerned, because the episode title is hunting palismen, and that made sense. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that.

Anyway here they are:

Emperor Belos wanted to unite both realms which made sense because he's been talking about this "day of unity" since season 1.

The moment when the golden guard/Hunter called Belos "Uncle", I was like "ok cool they're related" but he later said that emperor Belos found him. So when Belos said that wild magic is the reason their family is gone, he's referring to his family and Hunter's family which is, y'know, different families.

It's cute that Luz kept the echo mouse then put it in a glass cage, and not let it roam the owl house then start eating different books mixing whatever the books it ate contains. Not that I thought about it, of course

Willow is a cute cinnamon roll that can actually kill you.

At first I thought the red bird (cardinal) would be Luz's palismen, but Eda stole a Palistrom wood then gave it to Luz so then I thought "ohhhhhh ok, it's for Hunter then".

Long hair Bump everyone. I did not expect that Frewin is his palismen. Why haven't I wonder where is principal Bump's palismen before???

Ngl I didn't thought about Eda stealing a Palistrom wood, even though we saw her saw Luz being upset then having an idea all of a sudden.

I love how Eda and King didn't hesitate to steal that Palistrom wood for Luz.

So the guards didn't recognize the golden guard without his mask? He have the emperor's coven sigil and yet they didn't believed him because he's a kid. WHAT. So not all emperor's coven know the golden guard's face? Why have the mask in the first place?

So, golden guard/Hunter is a powerless witch. I don't remember if it was mentioned from the show before that all witches have powers, but I remember that a demon (like King, I don't know if all demons tho) can't do magic like witches do (remember that body swap episode from season 1).

So my guess is that Hunter might be a descendant of Philip Wittebane, since he also mentioned that most of his ancestors were powerless. And also his hair is kinda resembling Philip's, but so does Belos'. But I don't know I may or may not be wrong.

Them's the Breaks, Kid Reaction

Damnmit, I procrastinated on writing a reaction post AGAIN. Alright, here are my thoughts on Reaching Out in short: I liked it a lot, lumity levels were off the chart, Edric was great, and it is interesting that they explicitly said that Luz's father died. However, this was the second time Luz was hiding something from Amity, and this time it hurt Amity. My inner angsty teenager is worried that this is going to be following the rule of three. Follies was set up, Reaching Out was the reminder… the only thing missing is the payoff. Let's hope that Luz makes good choices.

But that's old news, here's my third Owl House reaction post!

Pre-episode thoughts

So this is going to be a flashback episode showing how Eda met Raine. I wonder if there is going to be a framing device, or would they just go directly to the past? Maybe it will go back and forth between the past and the present. Oh! Maybe Luz will ask Eda about the jacket, triggering the flashback. Tho if there is a framing device then Eda (or Lilith!) will be telling the story for a reason. Self-reflection, or imparting a lesson to Luz?

Episode thoughts

Luz's learning some new glyph combos, and they look like less complex versions of the one made by Philps.

Ah, she is basing these ones on the Philps' margin doodles in the hope of finding one that can fix her portal. She only got so much titan's blood left after all.

Aww, she misses her mom, poor baby. But Eda's here to distract her with some backstory!

They skip the theme song again, we're getting another long one.

Young Eda and Lilith are practicing with flashcards, all excited about joining the emperor's coven. Eda got her jacket! Interesting that they show Eda being just as much a nerd as Lilith, or Luz will be.

Darius and Alador were friends?!

There was a principal before Bump? But I thought Bump helped conquer this school. I guess he was just a lieutenant.

"Can't hear them, can't trust them" words to live by.

Lilith manages to escape getting caught, but Eda is not so lucky.

This principal guy is intense, "understand evil", they are just kids bro.

Lily is a cute nickname, but Eda's in trouble.

Bump comes out of a hole in the wall like some kind of house elf.

So Principal Faust gives Eda and Bump a special mission to clear their perceived weaknesses.

The idea that Bump was the one writing those reports in "Something Ventured, Something Framed" makes a lot more sense now.

Bump tries to downplay Eda's troublemaking but fails.

Seen some chatter that this is kind of a "filler episode". After giving it a little thought, I can see where they are coming from. The flashback doesn't really have anything to do with the present day, no new revelations or hard-won wisdom, just young Eda going on an adventure. Of course, I think people are too obsessed with avoiding "filler". When I was a kid*, all episodes were "filler" ones and I liked it!

Prediction for future episodes

I think the going theory is that Luz and Hunter are going to be in Belos/Philps' mindscape, tho the talk about "twisted nightmare" makes me think that another possibility is that they will go into the Titan's one instead.

On a lighter note, that leaked screenshot makes me think that Luz is going to wear the jacket because her cloak was damaged.
