gotta post at some time about those forced to smile through pain (Koala, more obviously Ebisu village inhabitants in Wano, afflicted by the faulty artificial devil fruits), and those reflecting pain through joy.

Sometimes a family is a gender fluid drag queen whose head is bigger than her body, a twenty-two foot tall teddy bear who's the last of his race, an emotionally constipated introvert with black coffee for blood, and a deeply psychologically damaged feral bastard boy who's two clicks away from biting someone's throat out.

Modern AU
Ace was technically his first kid. Garp had taken him in as a favor to the boy’s late parents, but was passed off to Dadan because of military work having him go all over the globe. That’s no life for a kid that young. Dragon loved his father, yes, but sometimes he wanted to break the man’s nose. Dadan was struggling, she always had been struggling, and now with a kid that was practically dropped in her lap, she didn’t know what to do. So, Dragon took Ace in. The poor kid’s heart was already rife with abandonment issues, and Dragon understood those all too well.
The adoption was cut and dry, going from Garp’s custody to Dragon’s with no resistance or drama. Garp was just glad to see Ace have people who were willing to step up for him when he couldn’t.
When Ace was three, Luffy was born and left for Dragon to raise. Crocodile… wasn’t doing well with him. Postpartum was a monster, and dysphoria on top of it made it all even worse. Dragon wanted to comfort the man, but it was all too much for him. He left. Couldn’t handle it.
Dragon was hurt, but he understood.
Cut to seven years later when Luffy let slip at the dinner table that Ace was sneaking off to meet a boy that was staying out in the woods past the property line, and Dragon nearly choking on his drink.
Rural Oklahoma wasn’t something to fuck around with. There were miles between their home and the next. There were copperheads, there were coyotes, the occasional cougar, and they were in the middle of fucking tornado season… and- after asking Ace a few times- this kid was only ten and a runaway.
He needed to get this kid out of those woods and into the house. Immediately.
Sabo was the kid’s name, and getting that much out of him had been like pulling teeth. He’d been on his own for a couple of years. Upon asking around in the right places and pulling a few strings, Dragon learned that this kid was old money from out of state. And his parents hadn’t even bothered to file a missing person’s report until very recently. No, no, instead they adopted another boy with a hefty inheritance to his name and went on fucking vacation until they realized Sabo was willed to inherit everything upon the passing of one of his grandparents.
If conflict of interest wasn’t an issue, he would have torn them both apart in court. He did get to take the witness stand, though, with his good friend Kuma taking over the prosecution in his stead. It wasn’t quite as satisfying, but he still got a few good licks in.

Am I the only who gets kinda triggered when Ginny, Bonney, and Kuma get portrayed as a happy loving family?
Not that I don't WANT them to be happy, but the problem I have is that it completely ignores the fact that Bonney is a RAPE BABY.
It reduces Ginny to just being a mother to Bonney, and wife to Kuma. WHile ignoring the fact that Bonney was FORCED UPON HER AGAINST HER WILL. No one wants to address the trauma that would have on Ginny because they don't want to acknowledge the grim reality of the situation in favor of they so-called "nothing-bad-happens-au". (Which is ironic, considering that Ginny HAS to be captured and RAPED in order for Bonney to exist at all)
RAPE IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE BRUSHED UNDER THE FUCKING RUG. IF YOU DO ANY AU WHERE GINNY SURVIVES YOU BETTER FUCKING ADDRESS, YOU SICK FUCKS!!

I can't stop thinking about Bonney, she's just so well written that I can't.
There's something heartbreaking in how her fate looks. Her relation with Kuma was the sweetest thing ever and yet when he left and promised to write to her and she didn't receive any she felt like she was abandoned by the person she loved the most. Not to mention she had no idea who her mother was and why she died.
And then it turns out that Ginny loved her, she loved her so much she died to ensure her security, GInny loved her more than she loved her own life.
And Kuma did exactly the same, he was sure he'll die, in theory, the moment Vegapunk erases is personality is the moment he dies and he did this all for Bonney, a child he loved more than anything.
For all those years she must've felt like she was abandoned, by father who just disappeared and didn't try to contact her and by mother she never knew. But turns out she was wrong, she was loved all the time and she had no idea how much.

One Piece Chapter 1095 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
We are back
and the big guns have come out to play
Luffy's down, Kizaru's down, Bonney's dangling off a demon And it's been 6 weeks since we last saw Nico Robin, we just want her back safe
TCB has been slow and tumblr's already showing panels so I had to use mangaspurs today, translations are a bit more wonky on that side so sorry if a bit of context is lost.
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too
Another monkey thief cover page this time with Buggy's nose
Marines naturally panic, those who don't want the upper part of their face removed are heading for the hills in confusion
Those allowed to see are of course ready for action as Bonney has stabbed a Gorosei
Saturn however stops them 'If I didn't want to get stabbed I would've dodged'
Whatever Saturn is doing it seems to be sourced from his eyes, as he fires a projectile (still thinking Haki) to knock Bonney off and grab her
Sanji tries the same but he also gets headstruck
The sword wound heals as well when removed, as anticipated
The Vice Admirals circle Vegapunk and the pirates, but again Saturn wards them off, very confident about the situation
He also reprimands Kizaru for taking so long
Kizaru is conscious, but he admits that he cannot move, which Luffy all deflated and wrinkly understands, so I'd say that counts as Luffy defeating an Admiral
Saturn though quickly goes to stamp the life outta Luffy
Franky for the save with a Strong Right to get him out of trouble
Saturn exudes his confidence by reminding that even though Luffy and Bonney's appearances are unexpected, they are massively surrounded
I wouldn't challenge fate in finding a way to escape Saturn, there's a giant leaving its slumber...
He thanks Vegapunk for his contributions, but then asks him - in order of most painful - who he should kill first? As they want him to suffer for opposing the World Government
It seems like Saturn also has some kinda pressure that's keeping Sanji, Franky and Vegapunk from approaching him
Bonney however stares daggers at Saturn claiming he killed her father
Not only was Kuma a slave before, he was also apparently from a tribe that 'committed a great crime', the Buccaneer people
I'm guessing it's Buccaneer because they translate it like 3 different ways in this chapter
That knowledge has surprised Vegapunk, either he was sure they didn't know or he didn't know
Surrounded by Marines and held up by Saturn as he orders them to shoot her head, Bonney remembers the words of her father, words about his young desires to bring freedom, and be like the Sun God Nika
Sanji and Vegapunk protest her execution, but they're still held down
Bonney asking Kuma if Nika will set her free is telling too, was Bonney also once a slave?
Kuma Flashback Time, right into his birth in the Sorbet Kingdom 47 years ago
Nani? Gentle, caring parents who unconditionally love their child? I can hear the death bells already
It seems the father was known as Klap, Bartholomew Klap, and he had the Buccaneer blood passed down to Kuma
The WG seemed intent about erasing it since they had spies in the hospital when Kuma was born, who leaked the information
Naturally the dragons took Klap back as a slave, along with Kuma and his mother despite Klap's protests
Kuma was strong as a kid, but abused
While in slavery the mother did die, Klap had to tell Kuma so I'd guess the Dragons killed her
Klap also tells Kuma about Nika, the same way Kuma would tell Bonney
But that would be his last tale to tell, as the Dragons shoot him in front of Kuma for being 'too noisy'
38 years ago in the West Blue we skip ahead
The Celestial Dragons are literally culling people in a non-WG country, and they do it every 3 years!?
This time it's God Valley!
God Valley wasn't even a Celestial Dragon place, they just wanted its resources and are killing the natives...how colonial
The King of God Valley doth protest, and protest until his swift death
Young Figarland Garling is the culprit, he's popular with the ladies and seemed unfazed by getting deducted 10,000 points for killing someone before the start
This time they're also sending out problematic slaves into the cull
And Saturn was there, completely unchanged in age
This is the field we saw in Kuma's memory bubble with Bonney, he was trying to escape God Valley and was being dragged back
Someone from the top notices that Kuma has Buccaneer blood
Buccaneers apparently have giant's blood too, maybe furthering the whole theory of Joy Boy being a giant before
There's only one person in the world with a laugh like that though
Young Ivankov was a slave too, and had a sister, Jinny, who looks like she'd be Bonney's mother given her looks and the fact that she's already eating meat
And now a break? Oda c'mon man, that means it'll be at least 8 weeks since we last saw Nico Robin
Well it looks like we will be delving into that Kuma flashback after all.
Not much else to tell I don't think, good to verify that Kizaru is defeated, and that Saturn is more than just talk I mean he did floor Sanji with a glare.
Given the build up I feel like Luffy is gonna - pun intended - bounce back to save Bonney, since he is Nika, but then the Sleeping Giant may assist with the rest. I am still hoping that Franky can get some shine in this arc but not as hopeful. We didn't get any of Zoro vs Lucci either so unclear how that's going, it should've been over before this anyway.
The Kuma flashback is already hitting us with surprises though; God Valley didn't belong to the Celestial Dragons, but then what does that make of the incident? Ivankov and Kuma were there so will we see it? Roger and Garp had to defend the Celestial Dragons, but were they more defending the slaves the Dragons had already planned to slaughter? We also have to wonder how baby Shanks ended up in a treasure chest. The introduction of Jinny being potentially Bonney's mother adds more implications, since that'd mean that Bonney is also Ivankov's niece, unless the clone theory on Bonney is that Bonney is in fact a clone of Jinny raised as Kuma's daughter. There's also the matter of Buccaneer races, if Bonney is biologically Kuma's daughter shouldn't she have those genes too that the WG would wanna erase? A new chapter of questions has opened and unravelled.
But seriously where is Nico Robin???

bits and bobs, One Piece, Chapter 1126 spoilers
Just small things I haven't seen mentioned yet. Oda's mostly making Shanks look scary, but he looks very good here:
Tumblr media
And Zoro and Robin here:
Tumblr media
AND I don't think that Oda actually knows how to draw kids in the 10-13 year old age range (looking at Law!) I mean, I know there are height differences and all, but the following
Tumblr media
gesture (Bonney holding onto Jinbe's clothes in the way a younger child would hold onto a caretaker's clothes, both to steady themselves, and to make sure they don't get away) seems to be of a toddler to about six year old. It's still very sweet.
BUT, anyway, cruel, cruel, cruel. It makes me realise she's no longer with
Tumblr media
her father, who seems to have some semblance of life? SO, is Bartholomew Kuma also missing, and if so, did he make the Sunny disappear (and himself in the process, and half the crew)? The ship is evident in the frame above, moored to the Giants' ship.
That was the second frame of Bonney with her father too. Of course, it doesn't seem he's much company, so she'd need to leave him on occasion, but it didn't seem that that occasion was at this point.
Then again, absinthe is a strong drink, and can
Tumblr media
make drinkers hallucinate, as stated by the giant above. SO maybe everything (the Sunny being lost, etc.) is a hallucination (it would be a trip if Oda played an "It was all a dream card"). Because the sootiness of this first frame where someone (Luffy? Chopper?) is calling Nami, certainly is "waking from a dream"-like.
Tumblr media
Is it only the "mature" quadruple, and (Bonney, and Lilith) left on the Giants' ship?
SO, whose hallucination is whose? It's not really about handling liquor, because both Nami and Zoro can, but maybe the others weren't drinking, or drinking as much. But they must have had some, otherwise they'd remember, so something else is at play.
Anyway, the sootiness of the first frame of the page above reminds me a lot of
Tumblr media
the yami-yami no mi (taken from Lilith and Edison wondering where Law was in the anime: special segment at the end). The colouring from the manga and the anime will be different, but Oda does that sooty dotting for Teach's fruit.
Maybe the counter to the yami-yami no mi is dreams that can obliterate it / are stronger than it? That's not a theory, just noodling.
Also, Nami's outfit is kinda Nordic, viking, rustic, giant. Her hair plaits, too. I dunno. Maybe taken by the giants' arch-enemy? Or maybe they need to enter Elbaf separately under some kind of secret system, especially since the thwarted Kid Pirates attack?
Dunno. Anyway. Just thought I'd point out a few things that struck me. It's a great chapter. Go read it!

Father Like Son, Mother Like Daughter, Parent Like Child - [MASTERPOST]
I figure it’s probably a good idea to put all the links in one post for easy reburbling, so here we are.
Father Like Son, Mother Like Daughter, Parent Like Child - 37k words - AU where some North and East Blue orphans get a two-parent home, more siblings, and canon shifts a little bit to the left because of it
Chapter One: To stare down the world at sixteen and seventeen, it means that there are many things that don’t make a whole lot of sense. To offer up one’s heart is a terrible thing. To change the course of events with something so small… it’s a lot of responsibility to make sure it still goes right. [6901 words; AU where Cora-san and Bell-mère live with their six kids in the East Blue and everyone is better-adjusted]
[tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
Chapter Two: Bell-mère and Cora adjust to their new situation, while their collective brood makes the best of things. [8506 words]
[tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
Chapter Three: Some meetings are fate–they’re bound to happen no matter what is going on around them. When it comes to the future Pirate King, he’s going to have nothing but the best. [10,516 words]
[tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
Chapter Four: With the Straw Hats dispersed due to Bartholomew Kuma, it’s time for more than just them to brace for the incoming Age. [11,422 words]
[tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
Please remember that comments, reblogs, fun tags, reviews, and general interaction are appreciated!
Additional stories to accompany the series is under the cut!
Family Day - 3.3k words - nearly two years after becoming a family, the kids (after some prodding by Penguin and Shachi) decide they’re going to show their parents how much they appreciate them

request from @zabsy for "draw [Bartholomew Kuma] in the The Man Who Erased His Name pose" because
******spoiler alert (I think, I don't follow One Piece)****
"[Kuma]'s love interest has a child with the villain and he raised the child like she was his own daughter. Then to save her he had to 'die'"
******end spoiler (?)*****
I think that's a fun coincidence!
There are two of them since I drew the second one first before realizing that Kiryu has his left foot off the ground but I like both poses, so here, have both! Maybe I'll animate his foot sometime haha

Something else to consider: there's another little girl who's being relentlessly pursued by the World Government right now.
Jewelry Bonney got a massive bounty update after Egghead, and with the Revolutionary stretched thin from their upcoming war and helping people in light of the news about imminent world flooding, there isn't enough time or manpower to go searching for her.
Dragon can only hope and pray that she's still with the Straw Hats and the giants. He still hasn't forgiven himself for not being able to save Ginny or recommending Vegapunk to Kuma (even though Kuma saw his cyborg conversion as paltry compared to Bonney being cured, what happened to the man was an absolute tragedy).
He is so beyond sick of this damn government toying with children's lives and making them into scapegoats.
The closer the day of war comes, the heavier the scent of ozone clings to him. He’s taking the spear he once wielded and dismantled, all of his fury, all of his pain, and he’s reassembling it. Of all the pieces of the spear, there is only one that’s undergone any drastic changes over the years.
Since the time of the Freedom Fighter’s founding- and later the Revolution- if a child was ever born to it he would carve their names into the wood of the shaft. Beneath the grip covering, there are three hidden names:
Nico Robin, Monkey D. Luffy, and Sabo.
All of these names are the future. All of these names will be what brings Mary Geoise to its knees.
He removes the leather strips of the grip and carves a new one to accompany the three.
Bartholomew Bonney.

1097 one piece manga theory
So just now I heard that Ginny got kidnapped 14 years before the current timeline... which could also mean she may not be Bonney's mother since Bonnet isn't around, therefore Bonney isn't Kuma's biological daughter either (allegedly)
So, where did she exactly come from? Was she cloned from someone and adopted by Kuma when he had met vegapunk? Is Bonney not 24 years old and is in fact just an actual child pretending to be an adult?
So many questions in my head rn ☹️☹️☹️

Luffy, Luck and Destiny - The Next Pirate King
Luffy is an exceptionally lucky character. Looking at where we are right now in the anime - having just been split up from the rest of his group by Bartholomew Kuma - it doesn't really seem that way. But if there's one thing about Luffy it's that he's going to survive. In other anime it's seen as plot armour and sure, it might be in One Piece, but from what I've seen Oda is so very intentional about every detail, and therefore it cannot be ignored.
The one instance that stands out the most is Loguetown, when Luffy was seconds away from being executed by Buggy. At the moment, his death seems imminent, inevitable. The rest of the strawhats are busy fighting the marines and Luffy is up on the same platform on which Gol D. Roger was executed. Aside from the obvious foreshadowing and symbolism of that moment, the bolt of lightning that ultimately saves his life is so random and out of the blue that I could find no other explanation for it but divine intervention.
It was quite literally the perfect out: Luffy is immune to lightning due to him being made of rubber, a direct result of him having eaten the Gomu Gomu fruit. And when you think about it further, even those events in his childhood led to this moment.
Luffy was inspired by Shanks to become a pirate, and the reason he ate the devil fruit was because Shanks refused to take a child to the grand line with him. Who knew that a decade later, that fruit would save his life?
All of this, however, was the preamble to the point I want to make.
At the point I'm at now, Luffy has just used the haoshoku haki, otherwise known as the 'king's disposition haki' with no prior explanation or training. Luffy's seen haki at work throughout the series but only knowingly witnessed its power in the Sabaody arc, the arc that directly precedes this one.
One more fact about the haoshoku haki that is necessary knowledge: it can only be used by one in a million people, and its users are rumoured to be the 'chosen ones'.
One piece is an anime that, out of all the pirates we've encountered, takes us along with Luffy, a 17 year old boy with the unlikely dream of becoming the pirate king. He starts off with a barrel of food and a tiny row boat, and against all odds builds a tight knit crew that seem to mesh well together. They make it through betrayals, through battles that they shouldn't, by any means, have survived. He declares war on the government that rules the planet. and time and time again, against all odds, he survives. Luffy prevails. From the moment we meet Luffy, the viewer, and later his crewmates, are left with no room to doubt that he will achieve his dream. And with the details Oda has given so far, there is no doubt that Monkey D. Luffy is the chosen one.

Neela's name means blue. Specifically, it can be described as deep, sapphire blue. Since she was surrendered immediately at birth to her father, Njano was given the task of naming his child. His entire world turned upside down in record time. After being discharged from the Navy following his injury, he felt that he lacked purpose. He felt lost and distraught. Meeting Najma changed that . . . until fate twisted the knife one last time. He was forced to see her in town but could never interact. He was forced to raise their daughter in secret. Njano's mind was anguished. While kindly neighbors assisted him in his unceremonious transition into ( single ) fatherhood, he struggled to shake the depression that festered within him. Neela did not have a name for the first few months of her life. Neighbors asked questions to ignite some inspiration: what was his favorite season? what were some things that made him happy? The idea did not strike him until the first time he saw her smile. Deep within that emotional void he felt a spark of hope. Rather than name her after a favorite object, season, or place, Njano named his daughter after his current state of mind: blue. It was an effort to put a positive spin on how he was feeling. Growing up, she asked many times about her name, and her father told her that blue was his favorite color. He would tell her he named her after something beautiful. Neela would not learn the truth behind her name until her return to Mirror Ball Island following the strike from Bartholomew Kuma.
