I think the thing people most underrate or misunderstand about Chicago is how many fucking parks we have. The city is downright covered in green space. When they were laying it out the goal was “never more than a 10 minute walk to a park” and it’s true. There’s 6 parks within 10 minutes of me. And it’s not just Grant/Millennium park either—I think people assume all big cities are like NYC where there’s really just 1 giant park (Central Park) but Chicago has not just 26 miles of ‘free and clear’ public beach front (and parks) but also giant parks scattered around the city. We have over 600 parks. 27 beaches. A free zoo.
#Central Park: 800 acres#the city of Chicago park system: 8;800 acres#we are simply not the same#tack on to that how many farmer’s markets we have an it’s obscene#our farmer’s markets also generally take SNAP/food stamps#anyway#Chicago is the greatest city in the world do not @ me#we’ve won greatest large city to visit 6 years in a row#AND we’re cheaper than most major cities to live in#thoughts? thoughts#Chicago stories

chicken scratch
pairing: carmen 'carmy' berzatto x reader rating: t (for now) length: 1,028 words content: mild cursing summary: you've never met your neighbour, but you've received plenty of their mail and now, a large package. of all the stories you made up in your head about who this 'carmen berzatto' could be, the real thing might just be your new favourite. a/n: brain rot means a middle of the night word dump. will likely be the first of many little stories about your next door neighbour, carmen, because that dynamic lives in my mind rent free. fluff for now, but we all know what that means (it means it'll definitely become nsfw later, sooner probably). read part two link to ao3 here!
The first letter was a mistake, the second one was a coincidence. The third one was not a big deal and the fourth was only a little more than a nuisance. But when a much larger package thudded against your front door at the ass crack of dawn, the recipient clearly written across the top of the cardboard box as your neighbour… well, that was just flat out annoying at this point. You hadn't even known deliveries made their rounds so early in the day and as big as the box was, when you lifted it to carry next door, it weighed lighter than a feather.
The pile of letters that accidentally found their way to your apartment were usually slipped through the small mailbox of your neighbour's, sometimes under the door. You'd thought about dropping the package and simply going about your day, but curiosity got the better of you as your knuckles rapped against the door and waited instead.
What could a Carmen Berzatto have possibly required to be delivered at this time?
In the time you've lived in the building, there'd been very few run-ins with other tenants. Not that you'd ever complain, perfectly content with your own company. You made friends with one elderly lady who always offered you some of her freshly baked bread, and in return you picked her up flowers and some extra produce on your farmer's market runs. The landlord wasn't your friend, but he wasn't your enemy either, and somehow you'd convinced him to let you paint your bathroom your favourite colour with little to no resistance. But your next door neighbour remained a mystery, one you've conjured up about a dozen different backstories and personalities for.
Carmen Berzatto, notorious criminal, hiding out in a tiny Chicago apartment. Carmen Berzatto, hundred-year-old vampire, who might either burn in the sun or look like they'd walked through a glitter bomb. Carmen Berzatto, part time Chicagoan, who actually doesn't live here anymore and maybe there's a squatter inside instead. Carmen Berzatto, the tax evader, because why else would they have so much goddamn mail being sent to them?
You'd been lost in the web of made-up histories for your neighbour when the door swung open to reveal said neighbour, and it slowly dawned on you that there wasn't a single story where you imagined Carmen Berzatto to look like that.
Piercing, wide blue eyes and a head of shaggy brown tufts that made you want to tangle your fingers through them, especially that small curl dangling just above his forehead.
"Hi." His greeting was laced with mild confusion that seemed immediately alleviated when his attention dropped to the box in your hands. "Oh."
"Hi," you blurted out, lifting the package, "got another one for you."
"I—I'm sorry about— about, uh, about all of that. It won't happen again."
"Won't it?" You were mostly teasing now. Although you were jolted awake by the sound of it thrashing against your door, and although you were rather peeved about getting up before you wanted to, you couldn't find it in yourself to be irritated anymore.
Carmen reached out to take the box from you, giving it a small shake with what you thought was a ghost of a smile before he set it down to the side somewhere you couldn't see. "It won't. I'm sorry." The flirt of his tongue along his lips brought your gaze toward it before you met his eyes again.
Those stunning icy blues.
"It's okay, nothing to be sorry for."
"I must've really fucked up on the— the uh, apartment number."
"What?"
"The apartment number."
"Yeah," you looked at him a bit dumbfounded, gaze darting to the door where the number and letter were, "what about it?"
"I—"
"You don't know your apartment number?"
"My writing's shit."
Both of you seemed to blink in unison, another lick of Carmen's lips which you mirrored before a stupid smile curled your lips. "Oh."
"Not a good excuse, I know." He nodded, jaw working as he turned his head to the metal on the door, a short and deep chuckle sounding from him. "Again, I—"
"Not sorry," you shook your head, "just chicken scratch."
For a moment, Carmen stared at you, and if it wasn't bad enough to have those too-blue eyes simply looking at you, to find them nearly boring holes as they danced between your eyes and across your face made you want to evaporate. Made you wish the ground would open up and swallow you hole. Made you want to drown in the depths of the ocean blues that were his irises.
"Just chicken scratch," he murmured after a beat of silence and what was once a ghost of a smile was definitely something now, the corner of his mouth lifting enough to wrinkle the corner of his eye. Enough to show you the dimple in his cheek. "Thanks for— for bringing the package."
"Yeah." And the smile unfurling on your lips was nothing short of genuine. "You're welcome, Carmen."
"Just, uh, just Carm is good. Carmy."
"Okay."
Another beat passed where you thought you might have been rendered frozen by one of your favourite shades of blue, glued to the floor through hypnosis, until a sound down the hall caught your ear and you nodded at Carmen. Turning on your heel, you took the first step back to your apartment, then another, and another.
And it wasn't until you had your hand stretched out to grab for your doorknob when you heard his voice echo from where you'd came. "See you around?"
"Yeah."
"Okay."
The moment hung in the air on a thin thread, the both of you sharing furtive and hidden smiles before his door closed and yours opened.
Carmen Berzatto, not a notorious criminal (to your knowledge) or a hundred-year-old vampire (yet). Nor was he a part-time Chicagoan (not with that accent) or a tax evader (maybe). None of the ideas you had floating in your mind about your neighbour even came close to the real thing.
Carmen Berzatto, curly-haired blue-eyed boy-next-door with chicken scratch for writing and a fleeting dimple you wanted to see again.

real love, baby
carmy blurb inspired by this ask!! mature, 18+. smoking 🍃, plenty of fluff, domestic and lovely <33
wc: 650
carmen's been high before, smoked a couple joints with mikey & richie in his teens, took gummies for his sleep while staging in copenhagen. but recently he confessed to you, he's never had an enjoyable high. with his brother he was often on edge, trying to remain cool for the older boys.
so on a monday morning when neither of you have anything to do, and there's a farmers market down the block you've been dying to visit, you wake before carmen and make your way into the living room. you open your freshly restocked stash and unwrap the glassware you'd ordered for this moment, a bong much smaller than your own, to let your boyfriend get the hang of it.
after grinding enough for the morning and packing the first bowl, unable to resist a hit or two for yourself, you get to work on breakfast. carmen wakes to the thick, earthy smell of the smoke paired with the savory scent of bacon and eggs. you plate up two breakfast sandwiches and make your way to carmen's side where he stands by the open window.
you show him how to inhale from the bong, sharing your first hit with him by taking his chin and exhaling the smoke into his parted lips. it's more filtered that way, gentler even though his lungs have become accustomed to the intrusion. he kisses you soundly after that, tongue slipping past your lips as he exhales through his nose.
it takes fifteen minutes for your plates and the first bowl to be cleared. by then carmen's contracted a case of the giggles, his eager hands reaching for the glass piece when you fail to clear the smoke in one go. you laugh with him, and kiss his sweet, rosy cheeks. while you repack the bowl you instruct carmen to pull up a playlist of yours, swaying your shoulders to the beat of the familiar songs.
your boyfriend isn’t a dancer by any means, and you’re fine with that. you let the music move you enough for two. but something about this morning gets carmen up, his hands tugging you upright and into his arms. full of giggles, you move to the beat.
after smoking down the second, as you pack the third bowl carmen bashfully asks what you plan on wearing to the farmers market, wanting to match with you. with a grin on your face, you tug him into the bedroom and giggle at the way he makes sure your bong is in his hand too, never one to be wasteful.
you open all the bedroom windows, taking turns taking hits as you choose a matching outfit. after finding a cropped white tee in your half of the closet and a pair of levi's jeans you know you have to recreate his signature look. you pair the two with the leather jacket carmen had planned on wearing, but he doesn't tell you that. looks better on you anyway, he thinks. instead he puts a zip up hoodie around his shoulders, promising to take it off if you want a picture together, even if you tell him it's too cold. he'd do anything for you, no matter how small or silly.
you freshen up with dry shampoo to soak up the smell, reassuring carmen that a brisk walk on a chicago spring morning will wash away the rest of the smoke that clings to your bodies. you both take a spritz of his cologne, because it's a stronger scent of course, not because you love being enveloped in carmen.
the walk to the farmers market is taken at a leisurely pace, hand in hand. together you purchase homegrown espresso beans, fresh mozzarella and pasta, and a colorful array of fruits and vegetables. carmen disappears from your side for a bit while you survey the selection of a "green" bakery, offering infused sweets as well as quality gummies. you purchase the sleep blend gummies for carmen to try, and a packet of infused candies for yourself.
when the transaction is done you look around for your boyfriend, noticing first the large bouquet moving toward you, then his bright smile. of course carmen bought you flowers.

back in chicago - part 4
pairing: carmy berzatto x reader
summary: after years in germany, you return to chicago and immediately run into your ex-boyfriend. if you thought it’d be easy jumping back into your old life, you were wrong. new people had entered carmy’s life, including a new woman, but you were still everything to him.
word count: 4.8k
part 1 / part 2 / part 3
A/N: welcome to the FINALE babbyyyy…also i may have gotten carried away and the finale is a little on the long side
warnings: unprotected sex, smut, car sex, jealous carmy which deserves its own warning, minors DNI (18+ only)
After Richie’s birthday party, you avoided Carmy for a few weeks. It was too messy. He had basically told you he loved both you and Claire and didn’t know what to do about it. You didn’t want to get on Claire’s bad side more than you already had.
It was easier to just ignore the problem.
During those weeks, you started to hang out with Sydney more and more. You both had hit it off upon meeting each other. She felt like one of your best friends, despite having only having known each other for a month.
Being friends with Sydney meant sometimes accidentally running into Carmy.
The first time was when you and Sydney decided to try a new lunch spot, which happened to be close to the Bear, so she could walk there after her shift. You accidentally got seated at one of the tables in front of the restaurant on that patio.
Carmy had walked by on his way to work, and of course, had to stop and say hi.
Then, you and Sydney made plans to go to a farmers market. You planned to meet her at the Bear, but didn’t want to run into Carmy.
You hung out in the alleyway beside the restaurant. You looked down at your phone and realized Sydney had texted that she was running a few minutes late.
You waited, mindlessly scrolling through social media. Finally, the back door swung open. You looked up expecting Sydney, but instead saw Carmy with a box of cigarettes in hand.
“Oh…uh, hey,” he said, shocked to see you. You gave him a polite smile, not exactly knowing what to say. What do you say to your ex-boyfriend who knows you’ve been avoiding him. “I’m just waiting for Sydney. We’re going to a market.” You quickly explained.
He nodded, slowly. He was slightly disappointed you weren’t there to see him. He knew he’d screwed things up, but he missed you.
“You know, you can wait inside if you want? You don’t have to wait out in the cold and pretend like we don’t know each other.” He offered. Before you could say anything, Sydney rushed out the door and saved you.
“Hey, sorry I’m late,” she said, trying to break up the awkward tension between the two of you.
A few days after that, Carmy had texted you asking if you wanted to get lunch. You couldn’t say yes, but you also couldn’t say no without sounding like an asshole. So, you ignored the message.
One night at your apartment, you FaceTimed Sydney after ruining the dinner you were making. “Syd, this tastes like shit. I don’t know how to fix it.” You complained. Having a chef friend came in handy.
It reminded you of all the times you’d cooked with Carmy.
“It probably just needs more acid to balance it out.” She told you. You nodded and tried to tweak the sauce.
“Oh, by the way, there’s this big dinner next week. Have you heard of the restaurant Ever? They’re closing and having this big final dinner thing. You should come with me. It’ll be fun.” She suggested, bracing for your quick no.
You paused and looked over at Sydney on your screen. She instantly knew the expression on your face meant no way. “Is Carmy gonna be there?” You asked, slowly.
Sydney pursed her lips and looked away from the camera. You glared at her as she refused to tell you. “I will respectfully pass then. I really don’t want to go to a dinner with my ex-boyfriend.” You told her, honestly.
Sydney sighed. “Oh, come on. They’ll be a bunch of people there. You probably won’t even see him.” Sydney said, and you both knew she was lying.
You persistently shook your head. “I really don’t want to see him. There’s too much history, Syd.” You told her. She knew she had slim odds of convincing you, but she was going to try. To do so, she was going to try every possible angle.
“I have this chef friend. His name is Luca, and he’ll be there. I think you’d like him. He’s cute.” She said, smirking at you. You gave her a disappointed look. “I told you no more love drama. I’m not ready to start dating some new guy.” You said.
You tasted your sauce as Sydney rambled on about why you and Luca would hit it off. “You know another plus? It would make a certain someone jealous.” She said, winking at you.
You froze at the reference to Carmy. Over the past few weeks, Sydney had refused to talk about Carmy unless you brought him up, so it was new to hear her mention him. “I’m not gonna take advantage of some guy just to get back at Carmy.” You persisted.
“Luca’s a nice guy. He might even be down to pretend just to help you make Carmy jealous.” Sydney playfully threw the idea out there. You felt a laugh slip through your lips. “That would be hilarious.” You said, treating the suggestion as a joke.
“I can ask him.” Sydney said, dead serious. You looked at her, mentally weighing your options. You almost considered it for a second. “No, Syd. I was just kidding.” You said.
You both hung up, so that you could finish making dinner. You completely forgot about the conversation. Until the next day when you got a text from Sydney.
“Luca says he’ll do it.”
When it came to the night of the Ever dinner, you were extremely anxious.
Anxious to see Carmy. Anxious to possibly see Claire. Anxious for how Carmy would react.
You were currently standing in the lobby as you waited for Sydney to show up. You felt too awkward to go in and have to find Luca on your own. You nervously fidgeted with the necklace you were wearing.
You had picked a dress that made you feel really confident. If you were going to try to make Carmy jealous, you knew you needed to up your game.
You heard footsteps coming down the hallway and looked up to see Sydney. “Hey, there you are. You look so good.” She said, giving you a hug.
You thanked her and returned the compliment. “You seem nervous. You doing okay?” She asked you, noticing the way you were fidgeting. You shrugged. “Kinda stressed, but just trying to power through it,” you said.
“Everything is gonna go fine, I promise.” She assured you. She led you into the dining room. You saw a blonde man raise his hand and wave you both over. As you walked over to the table, you glanced around the room. You saw no sign of Carmy.
He pulled Sydney in for a hug and then turned to you. “Luca. It’s nice to meet you.” He said, sticking his hand out for you to shake. You smiled and introduced yourself.
He quickly pulled your chair out for you, letting you sit down. “So, what’s the whole story with Carmy? I’ve been dying to know. Sydney told me a little bit.” Luca said, sitting and turning to face you.
“We dated for a few years. I moved away for a job, and he broke things off. His new girlfriend is pissed at me, simply for existing. And I don’t think he knows how to be friends with me after all these years.” You summarized.
“That is wild. Did you move to Germany, by chance?” He asked. You and Sydney both perked up when he said Germany. “Yeah, I did. How did you know that?” You asked, curiously.
“I went to culinary school with Carmy, and he always talked about his girlfriend who lived in Germany.” He told you.
“Yeah that was me, but we broke up before I left. So, we were definitely broken up when he told you that.” You said, realizing how hard Carmy must have taken the breakup. Luca slowly nodded. “My best guess based on the way he talked about you is he definitely wasn’t over you.” He told you.
You felt a pit in your stomach as you thought about it. You always figured Carmy moved on quickly because he was the one who broke things off. But, you were starting to realize how much he regretted that.
“I’m going to run to the restroom really quick, but I’ll be right back.” Luca said, standing up and excusing himself.
“Carm’s not bringing Claire tonight, right?” You turned and asked Sydney. She shook your head. “No, I asked him and he said she’s working tonight.” She told you. You breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, out of the corner of your eye, you saw Carmy walk into the room. “Oh, shit,” you mumbled to yourself. Sydney looked over her shoulder and also saw Carmy.
He walked over towards your table. When you both locked eyes, you could tell he was shocked to see you.
Sydney stood up to give Carmy a quick hug. You also stood up. Carmy’s eyes raked down your body as he saw your dress for the first time.
It took everything in him to fight the urge to tell you how amazing you looked. He gave you a quick side hug. “I didn’t know you’d be here.” He mentioned to you before sitting back down.
He sat on Sydney’s other side. His gaze lingered on you. He saw you in that dress, and he knew he was screwed.
Then, Luca returned to the table.
“Oh, hey man, it’s nice to see you.” Carmy said, recognizing Luca. They both exchanged some pleasantries. Carmy seemed excited to see an old friend. Luca walked behind Carmy and back to his seat next to you.
“I got you a drink.” Luca said, handing you a glass. You smiled up at him and thanked him. Carmy furrowed his eyebrows. He didn’t even think you both knew each other.
Luca’s hand softly grazed your back as he sat down beside you. “Do you umm…do you guys know each other?” Carmy asked. He was biting down on his lip.
“Carmy, Luca’s my date.” You said, watching as Carmy clenched his jaw. His grip tightened around his glass. You were almost concerned it would shatter. “Wait do you two know each other?” Luca played dumb, gesturing between you and Carmy.
“Yeah, we dated.” Carmy said, through clenched teeth. Luca slowly nodded his head like he was realizing the awkwardness of the situation.
Sydney covered her mouth as she tried not to laugh. Carmy was never someone who was able to mask his emotions. His jealousy was written all over his face.
“I’m surprised Claire isn’t here.” You said, with a tone colder than you meant to use. Carmy cocked his head to the side. “She uhh…had to work.” He said. He was thankful Claire wasn’t there. If she saw how jealous Carmy was acting, it’d lead to another fight. They’d been having a lot of fights about you.
Some other chef came up to introduce themselves to Carmy. Luca took the opportunity to reach over and grab your hand. Carmy saw the whole thing. Carmy moved his hands under the table, so no one could see how hard he was clenching his fists.
You and Carmy knew each other like the back of your hands, so neither of you missed any little subtle reactions.
Luca leaned over to you. “You were definitely right about this getting under his skin.” He whispered in your ear. You giggled, pretending like he’d just told you something funny.
Carmy rolled his eyes when he thought you weren’t looking. A second later, you saw a text pop up on your phone.
When you saw Carmy’s name, you grabbed your phone and held it in your lap. The text read:
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
You had to stop yourself from laughing. Carmy was beyond easy to read. You quickly texted him back: “I didn’t think I had to. I didn’t even know you guys knew each other.”
Carmy was jealous enough that you had a date, but it was worse because Luca was one of his friends.
You saw Carmy huff as he read your message. Then, he furiously typed back a response.
“Oh, c’mon. You don’t think I know you well enough to know that’s bullshit? You should’ve told me.”
You turned off your phone and set it upside down on the table. One of the other chefs at the table started telling a story, which captured everyone’s attention except yours and Carmy’s.
Carmy kept looking over at the way your fingers were interlaced with Luca’s. He also saw how you both kept giddily smiling at each other.
You glanced over at Carmy after feeling him staring at you. He gestured towards the hallway. “Can we talk?” He mouthed to you. You shook your head and shifted your attention back to who was talking.
Towards the end of the party, Carmy was as frustrated as he could be. He’d watched you and Luca flirting all night. And you were ignoring him.
About half of the guests had left, and everyone was having small side conversations. Sydney had left because she had plans afterwards with her dad.
You and Luca were still chatting. Carmy was across the table as the guy next him continued rambling. Carmy wasn’t even paying attention to the conversation. His eyes were glued to you.
You grabbed ahold of Luca’s arm and then leaned over to whisper in his ear. You suggested a way to really make Carmy jealous. Luca played along.
Luca’s eyes went wide, and he rushed to stand up. He grabbed your hand and pulled you with him out to the lobby. You both did your best to pull eager expressions.
Carmy watched you both as you left. He couldn’t shake the pit in his stomach about where you both were going.
Luca pulled you into the one-person bathroom, leaving the door open just a crack. You both knew it was only a minute before Carmy came chasing after you.
“You’re an evil genius. Carmy is gonna lose his shit.” Luca said, laughing at your plan. You walked over to the sink and jumped up so you were sitting on the counter. You both were in a fit of laughter imagining Carmy’s reaction.
Until you heard quick footsteps in the hallway. Luca stepped towards you, and you pulled him to stand in between your legs. “You good?” He asked you, quietly. You quickly nodded, and you both started the show, knowing Carmy was close by.
Luca quickly kissed you. You wrapped your legs around his waist and kissed him back. You unbuttoned the top two buttons of his dress shirt. He ran his fingers through your hair, so it looked a little messy.
Just as you predicted, the door yanked open, and Carmy barged in.
“Carmy, what the fuck?” You asked, pulling out of the kiss.
Carmy’s face was bright red, half from anger and half from seeing you kissing his friend. “Hey, mate. C’mon now,” Luca said.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Carmy said, walking right up to Luca. Luca towered over Carmy, but right now Carmy didn’t care. He’d watched Luca put his hands on you, and he was pissed.
“Carm, leave him alone.” You said, jumping off the counter and standing in between the two men. Luca had a slight smirk. Carmy read it as cockiness, but you knew he was trying not to laugh.
“Do you think you can just put your hands all over her?” Carmy asked, looking past you at Luca.
You grabbed Carmy’s wrist. “That’s enough, Carm. Come on,” you said, dragging him out of the bathroom with you. Over Carmy’s shoulder, you saw Luca give you a thumbs up.
You pulled Carmy with you until you both were on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. You walked over next to where Carmy’s car was parked.
“Alright, Carmy, what the hell is up with you?” You asked, crossing your arms.
His eyes went wide. He wanted to be asking you the same thing. “Nothing's up with me. What about you? You never thought to tell me you were going out with my friend?” He snapped.
You rolled your eyes. “Why do I have to tell you anything. Remember, you and I aren’t dating anymore. I don’t owe you any information.” You told him. Carmy ran his fingers through his hair, huffing to himself.
“Because I care about you. Even if we’re not dating, I still consider you a friend.” He told you. You shook your head, taking a step back from him. “I told you that you couldn’t care about me as much as you do. You’re dating Claire.” You reminded him.
“Claire has nothing to do with this. This is about you pushing me away. I haven’t talked to you in weeks, and I miss talking to you. I know I messed up with the kiss, but you said you could forget it.” He said, his voice cracking slightly. You could tell that everything he was saying was true.
This is where the conversation became a lot more real for you. This wasn’t about your fake date anymore.
“Of course I pushed you away. Because I’m fucking scared, Carmy. When you get scared, you run away. I can’t trust that you’ll actually stay. Even just to be friends. If Claire asked you to stay away from me, you would.” You told him. Your chest felt tight as you finally told him how you’d felt for years. After Carmy broke things off, you’d never been able to get closure.
“I wouldn’t leave you like that.” He said, hurt by the implications.
You tried to take a deep breath, but you felt your eyes start to water. “You’ve done it before.” You snapped. He froze when he realized you were talking about Germany.
“Yeah, remember that I wanted to try long distance, but you got scared? So, you broke things off. You were my best friend, and you just called it quits.” You complained, a tear rolling down your cheek.
“I was trying to save us. I knew how wrong long distance could go. I didn’t want us to hate each other when we broke up.” He told you. You quickly wiped your tears off your cheeks. Carmy started pacing.
“It fucking killed me, Carm.” You said, looking over at him. He almost broke seeing the emotion on your face.
“So, that’s what all this was? This was all revenge? Ignoring me and going on a date with my friend. It was just to give me a taste of my own medicine?” He asked you. You shook your head and rolled your eyes.
“Oh my god, Carmy. Not everything is about you. Maybe I was ignoring you because it was hard seeing you with Claire. And then you tried to tell me you still loved me. I don’t deserve to have that dumped on my plate to deal with.” You told him. You were so irritated that Carmy still wasn’t understanding.
“Do you want me to apologize for how much you mean to me? Because I won’t do it.” He told you, crossing his arms.
“I just want you to acknowledge how fucked up it is that you keep trying to flip flop. You either love me or you don’t. But either way, figure it out and don’t drag me through this anymore—” Carmy cut you off with a kiss.
He grabbed your hips and nudged you back against the side of his car. You grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him close to you. He hesitated for a second.
“Luca’s inside,” he mumbled, stopping you. You shook your head. “We weren’t actually on a date. We did it to make you jealous.” You told him.
You realized that while Luca wasn’t an issue, Claire was.
“Of course you did,” Carmy said with a chuckle. He cupped your face and leaned in to kiss you again. You put your hands on his chest and pushed him away. “We…can’t,” you said, in between kisses.
He buried his face in your neck, pressing kisses to your skin. “Claire,” you mumbled. It was hard for you to not get distracted when Carmy’s lips were on you.
“What about her?” Carmy asked simply. He refocused his attention back on kissing your jawline. “Are you still with her?” You asked him, trying to stop your eyes from fluttering closed.
“Well yes but…” he started to say. You shook your head, moving his face so you could look him in the eyes. “No buts,” you told him firmly.
“I was planning on breaking it off tomorrow after I saw you in this dress tonight. I knew I’d never be able to get you off my mind.” He told you, letting his hands run along the curve of your back. He toyed with the fabric of your dress, caressing your sides.
You leaned into his touch. You always loved the way his hands felt on you. “We shouldn’t, until you tell her.” You said, even though every part of you wanted to kiss him again.
“I’m going to tell her. I promise. I won’t chicken out.” He assured you, noticing your hesitancy.
“We still should wait.” You said. The phrase came out more like a question than a statement. He leaned in closer to you. His nose brushed against yours. “Or we could…” he said, not needing to finish the sentence for you to know what he meant.
You grabbed his collar again and pulled him in to kiss you. He feverishly kissed you back. He quickly reached around his pockets to fish out his car keys.
He unlocked the car door and pulled the back door open for you. You practically jumped into the back seat. Carmy looked around before joining you in the car.
“We’ve waited five years. That feels like enough.” You said, in between kissing him.
“So long— too long,” Carmy corrected himself.
You cupped his face as you kissed him. He playfully nipped at your bottom lip before sneaking his tongue into your mouth. His hands were gripping onto your thighs as your legs wrapped around his waist. His lips tasted like the scotch he’d been drinking.
You were like a drug to Carmy. After not having you for so long, he couldn’t get enough of you. Especially not after hearing you whimper when he pushed his hips against yours.
He sat up quickly to shrug his jacket off his shoulders. You grabbed it and tossed it into the front seat.
You admired him as he straddled you. “You look so pretty staring at up me.” He said, leaning down to peck your lips.
Impatiently, you started unbuttoning the buttons on his shirt while he undid his tie. You ripped his shirt off his arms, letting it fall to the floor. His tie followed behind it.
You were silent as you admired Carmy. You ran your fingers over his chest, admiring his toned chest. “You really…wow,” you mumbled.
He laid you back down on the seat. “You’re getting to admire me, but I’m not getting to see you, gorgeous,” he whispered into your ear. You shivered as you felt his breath on your neck.
He reached down to the bottom of your dress and pulled it over your head. “You look fuckin’ breathtaking,” he said as his lips ghosted down your neck.
He placed a kiss on your lips and then started placing lips down your neck and down your chest. You almost whined as he placed a kiss right between your breasts. He continued leaving sloppy kisses down in a line til he got right above your panties.
He stopped and looked up at you with a smirk. “Such a tease,” you mumbled, pulling his lips back to yours.
“Normally, I’d make you wait a little bit, but I think we’ve both done enough waiting.” He said, slipping his fingers under your bra straps and tugging them off your shoulders.
“C’mere, sweetheart, can’t reach behind ya,” he said, pulling you both up.
He was sitting on the seat with you straddling his lap. You reached behind your back and quickly undid your bra. It fell into Carmy’s lap. You watched his eyes go wide, and you could feel his pants start to tighten below you.
You leaned forward and kissed Carmy’s neck. You started softly sucking on the skin. Carmy leaned his head back against the seat. A low groan escaped his lips.
You reached down to unbuckle his belt. You pulled his pants down to hang around his ankles. You could see how strained his boxers were.
“You’re not gonna leave me, Berzatto?” You asked him. He quickly shook his head. “Never leavin’ you ever again,” he said, reaching out to grab your hips.
You tugged down his boxers enough for his cock to spring out. “You look so fuckin’ sexy.” He groaned, biting down on his lip as he watched you.
He grabbed your hips and held you up as you lined him up. You slowly sunk down on him. You let out a muffled moan as you bit your lip. Carmy sighed and threw his head back.
“Oh my god, Carm,” you mumbled as he stretched you out. He nodded with his eyes tightly closed.
You braced your hands on his shoulders and pulled yourself up and sunk back down onto his length. “Oh…god, you feel— perfect,” Carmy groaned.
He massaged one your breasts in his hand, rolling your nipple between his thumb and pointer finger. A high-pitched whine escaped your lips. “That feel good, baby?” Carmy asked, growing cockier by the second. He attached his lips to your other breast, softly sucking and biting.
You quickly nodded your head as you continued to your roll your hips against his. “I’m gonna mark you up so good, sweatheart,” Carmy told you as continued sucking on your soft skin.
“Make me yours, Carm,” you begged. You quickened your pace, slamming your hips down into his. The sound of your skin slapping against his filled the car.
Your eyes rolled back as Carmy hit your g-spot. You desperately tried to grab onto something. Your fingers missed the headrest and slid across the foggy window.
Carmy was mumbling profanities under his breath. His hips thrusted up to meet yours. He got too eager, and you hit the back of your head against the roof of the car.
“Ow, fuck,” you muttered as Carmy cupped the back of your head with his hand.
“C’mere,” he said, slipping his arms around your waist. He pulled you against his chest and shifted you both so you were laying down with him on top of you.
“You don’t have to do any of the work. Just let me treat you real nice,” he told you. He roughly grabbed your legs and wrapped them around his waist.
With the new angle, he reached even deeper inside of you. “Oh, fuck fuck fuck,” you muttered, weaving your fingers through Carmy’s hair.
“That feel good?” He asked you, thrusting quicker into you. You ferociously nodded. “Yeah, you fill me up so good.” You praised him. Your moans only encouraging Carmy to go faster.
“Almost there, sweetheart,” he mumbled. He reached down and starting rubbing circles on your clit with his thumb.
“Fuck, Carmy,” you yelled out. He kissed you to help muffle your moans. You could feel a tightening in your stomach. You were seeing stars.
You both were distracted when you heard something vibrating on the floor. You both quickly glanced over and saw Carmy’s phone with Claire’s name scrolling across the top. “Oh, shit,” you mumbled, “do you need to—” you started to ask before Carmy stopped you by pressing down on your clit for a second.
Your hips bucked up against his. A loud whine fell from your lips. “Don’t be silly, sweetheart. I’m not answering her call when I’m this deep inside you. Tonight’s all about you, not her.” He mumbled against your neck. He pressed sloppy kisses against your throat.
“Y’know, she knew she couldn’t compete with you. She knew you and me were meant for each other.” He told you.
Your nails scratched down Carmy’s back as you got closer to your high. “Please, Carmy— faster,” you begged him. He quickly obliged.
The sound of you both panting filled the car. His thrusts started to falter. “Look at me, baby. Wanna watch you fall apart,” he mumbled into the crook of your neck.
You balled your hands up in his hair, tugging on his curls. “I’m gonna—” you whined. His hips sped up, ramming into yours. “Yeah, me too,” he said in between groans.
You felt him twitch, and you both came together. A long string of profanities came rolling out of your mouth. He leaned back down to kiss you. His thrusts slowed down as he helped you both cool down.
He pulled out of you and flipped you over so he was laying down with you on top of him. He brushed your hair out of your face, which was pretty sweaty now.
“I fuckin’ love you. No running, you’re it for me.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to your temple.

Carmen definitely has black cat energy, maybe more akin to something like a stray cat (saying that lovingly) but definitely is more cat boyfriend than dog boyfriend. Have to leave him alone and gain his trust and then he’ll be curious about you, and then won’t leave you alone 🥰😭
this is completely true, carmen is kinda stand-offish and reserved at first and he is horrible at replying and calling you back because let’s face it he doesn’t really know how to communicate properly. but even after all that, all of that distance and reservations you force him to come out.
you drag him to a nice hole in the wall lunch spot, you take him for drinks, and then something just clicks in Carmen. Once he realises you aren’t going to leave him stranded he completely opens himself to you, and don’t try and tell me he wouldn’t be the most clingy mf after 😭 this man is literally a toddler yall!
So why not a little drabble down below? A sneak peak if you will. it’s likes 200 worth of word vomit and there’s allusion to smut to enjoy ;)
*
The busy streets of the farmers market spilled into the morning traffic, as Carmen rushes between crowds with two cups of coffee grasped against his chest.
They burned, really fucking bad, probably searing a third degree burn right under his pelvis but god did he not care, his legs ran with the wind behind them as he tried making it back to your shared apartment as quick as possible.
He had only left the warm bed where you lay 10 minutes ago, only after you had thought about ‘how good a coffee would be snuggled up here’ and Carmen had shouldered on a flimsy fleece jacket and his house slippers before racing out of the house to fulfill your request.
He didn’t regret it now, but he could practically feel his skin itch with a desire to feel you against him again. There had been a celebratory dinner of sorts for the beef after it got recognised as Chicago’s up and coming restaurant of the decade. Carmen couldn’t wait till you both made it to your apartment and just took your right there in the backseat of his car that now stood stationary in the parking lot.
Carmen can still taste you on his tongue and now he’s grateful he took a much needed day off to spend it with you.
Opening the apartment door, the smell of melted butter and grease washes over Carmen’s senses. Flipping of his slippers, Carmen past the kitchen, where used dishes lay on the stove top and the ingredients for pancakes lay open.
“Baby? I got our coffee?” Carmen yells out, and when there is no answer a sweat begins to break on Carmen’s forehead.
“H-honey? You there!?” Carmen yells louder, looking through the living room before entering the bedroom with haste.
“I’m right here Carmy, it’s alright” The sweet saccharine melody of your voice pulls Carmen from whatever fear inducing nightmare he fell into.
You’re here, back where your supposed to be. Wrapped around the covers that smelled of the both of you.
“Made us pancakes” You smile, the sun streaming in through the linen curtains so they dusted all over your gorgeous face.
If Carmen could shift his eyes away from you (which he can’t) he would see the pretty tower of pancakes dripping with syrup and berries plated on the bedside table. Hell, if he saw how well done they were you feared the coffee might get thrown across the room and Carmen will drag you up to his face.
“Got us coffee” Carmen whispered, placing them to the side, forgotten as his mind was consumed with feeling you against him.
“Just get in here already” You giggle, before the sheets are thrown to the side and the warmth of Carmen’s body encapsulates you once again.

Love Story
Carmen Berzatto was a stranger to love, at least until you walked into his restaurant.
The Bear MasterList
Directory
Growing up with the Berzattos was difficult, to say the least. Donna wasn’t the most affectionate doting mother, Mikey would express his affection to his baby brother by teasing him, and Natalie tried her best to compensate for the two of them. Carmen understood what love was, it was just something that he thought he’d never have. Expressing his feelings to Donna or Mikey was met with an undesirable response, to say the least. Natalie was a haven but as Carmy got older and distanced himself from her, he almost forgot what it was like to have someone say they were proud of him or that he was loved. That sentiment was translated into his love life during his time in New York; when the girls he ‘dated’ got to the stage where they wanted to define the relationship, Carmy got distant. The idea of someone loving him was unsettling and he’d run away.
Moving back to Chicago, he started reflecting on why he behaved the way he had and does. His short-lived relationship with Claire, a girl he thought would never give him the time of day, was the catalyst to his revelation of sorts. He noticed the women who would give him a second glance at the farmer’s market or while they waited for the subway. Richie encouraged him to ‘get out there’, but the stress of owning a new restaurant and managing his celebrity status took up much of his emotional, mental, and physical energy. He was growing increasingly content with being the fun uncle instead of starting his own family.
At least until he met you.
There was something about the way you carried yourself. You were effortlessly elegant yet relaxed. You were all of the traits he thought he was missing within himself, the yin to his yang. The night he met you, he started seeing his future as more fruitful.
~
The night the two of you met was burned into his memory. You’d come into The Bear with a group of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. There had been an issue with one of the sauces, and Sugar insisted that Carmy went out to deal with it; Richie had been more than capable of handling the situation himself, but Sugar insisted explaining that it was the right call. Carmy was never a fan of dealing with angry customers, but your group seemed level-headed enough. As he talked to the birthday girl, you’d returned to the table from the bathroom.
You were the most beautiful woman Carmy had ever seen. There was an ethereal energy surrounding you, Carmy tried to be professional, but he kept glancing in your direction. One of the girls noticed and started giggling, which made him self-conscious. As he stood there with a face redder than a tomato; you couldn’t help but look at him. Carmy was a pretty man with high cheekbones, eyes as blue as sapphires, and golden brown hair that you desperately wanted to play with. As he explained the process he’d used to cook your friend's entree, you smiled at the obvious passion he had for cooking.
When Carmy began walking back to the kitchen, he looked over his shoulder to see you watching him. Somehow his face got redder as he scurried back into the kitchen. Richie was curious about what had gotten him so flustered, but Carmy couldn’t risk anyone snatching you away.
As the night came and went, a part of Carmy hoped that the interest had been mutual and that you’d be waiting for him after closing, but that hope was short-lived. He knew he’d never see you again.
When the birthday girl tagged The Bear’s official Instagram account in a post she’d made, Carmy felt his hope renew. You were tagged in one of the pictures. When he clicked your handle and saw a public account, he felt the corner of his lips turn to a soft smile. You were an up-and-coming actress with a few cats and an art degree. As Carmy scrolled through your account you appeared to be single and after a quick Google search, it was confirmed when you’d talked about your love life in a Buzzfeed video. There was no way he’d go for a guy like him.
You never paid attention to new follower alerts from Instagram, as you’d started doing press for a summer rom-com you’d starred in - there were a lot of notifications. When you say another verified account had followed you, your curiosity was peaked. Carmen Berzatto… that was his name. After you’d left The Bear on Thursday night you couldn’t help but wonder who he was since you’d missed his initial introduction. You scrolled through his account to realize he was a pretty private guy, even in the few interviews you’d managed to find online; he was aloof and you needed to know more.
Following Carmy back felt inconspicuous enough, what were the odds of him even noticing the notification? It’s not like you’d turn on posts or story notifications. He probably wasn’t even going to notice.
Oh boy were you wrong.
~
To say Carmy was a little obsessed with you was an understatement. He felt like a creep stalking your account and watching old interviews you’d done but he needed to know you. When you’d posted about needing a good pesto recipe, Carmy shot his shot. He didn’t expect you to reply so when you did, it was a surprise.
When you confessed to not really knowing how to cook, he jumped on the opportunity to offer you a cooking class at The Bear whenever you were free. You agreed and quickly planned a night to come in on a night The Bear was closed.
The two of you were the only people in the restaurant. Carmy was sweating bullets making sure to make you comfortable and not over-explain any errors. By the end of the ‘lesson,’ you’d made a halfway decent pesto and managed to learn more about Carmy. You wanted to learn more though; the two of you exchanged phone numbers and agreed to go on an actual date in the next few weeks. When you kissed his cheek before leaving; he fought his instinct to grab you by the waist and give you a real kiss.
One date turned into two, two turned into three, and then three turned into the beginning stages of a relationship. Carmy didn’t know how to ask you to be his girlfriend, was that something you really needed to do in your thirties? It felt somewhat juvenile, at least until you referred to him as your boyfriend in an interview. The woman interviewing you had asked about a rumor of a budding romance between you and your male counterpart. You laughed and said “I have a boyfriend back in Chicago. So no. Miles and I are just friends- he’s also a really bad kisser if anyone was curious.”
That was just the start of your love story, Carmy didn’t know how it would end or what the middle would consist of but as long as he had you; anything felt possible.

Saturday was farmer’s market day.
Every Saturday morning, dozens of independent businesses, farmers and food stands would come together at Lincoln Park to sell their wares. It made for a colorful and interesting blend of smells, sounds and sights, and for most, a great way to start off their weekend.
And Carmen was no exception to this. He’d first stumbled upon it by accident on his way to the Beef. Taking a wrong turn because of his still waking morning head resulted in him walking through the park and, unavoidably, being distracted by what vendors there were. A chef at heart, he couldn’t help but look around the wide array of fresh ingredients available for purchase. He’d taken out his notebook and started writing down business names as he tried a sample every now and then.
He held a bag of fresh paprikas in one hand, making his way down the line before he came across a peculiar and seemingly very busy stand. The fresh, sweet scent of strawberries allured him, stepping closer to take a look at what they had to offer. And it was exactly that, just strawberries. It appeared to be a family business, your mother and father packing orders, and you at the front taking them and accepting payments. For a second he just kind of stood there, bag in hand, staring at you. There was no way you were from here, Chicago doesn’t let a smile like that survive very long. Or maybe that was just his cynical mind doing its usual thing.
He snapped out of it when you glanced his way, looking to the side. He felt his cheeks getting warmer, embarrassed that just looking at a pretty girl got such a reaction from him. He’s a collected person, he should be acting like one. He took a deep breath and got in line. Lord knows what he’d be using strawberries for, he’d figure something out, might as well just eat them as a snack while the season allowed it.
“Hi! How many?” Your voice was sweet and chipper, something he couldn’t even think of being after taking orders all morning. Somehow, you kept it up.
“Oh, uh...” He looked at your display, before remembering that all you sold were strawberries, so browsing just made him look even more stupid. “How many... Strawberries?”
“Boxes. They’re 500 grams, 5 bucks each. So how many?” Your smile remained the same, though you were slightly amused by his confusion.
“Oh, right. Sorry.” He could have sank into the ground right then and there. Of course you meant boxes, who in their right mind is buying individual strawberries? “Uh... Just one box is fine, please.” He reached for his wallet while you took over a box from your mom.
“Great! That’ll be 5 dollars please.” You took the slightly crumpled bill from his hand, storing it in the tin box in front of you and quickly writing down something on a paper. Seemed like you still did everything by hand, he couldn’t imagine what a mess it would be if he had to do that at the restaurant.
“Here you go, have a great day!” The box you gave him was neatly wrapped in brown paper, with a sticker serving as a business card on top.
“Uh...” He stared at the sticker, reading over it before looking back up at you.
Ask for her name.
“Yeah...”
Her name.
“You too.”
You idiot.
He picked up the box and walked away, walking a little faster than usual. He was never good at talking to people, but god, that was just embarrassing. He opened up the packaging, and took out a perfectly plump strawberry. He took a bite, humming as the juicy sweetness washed over his tastebuds.
Lunch rush had just ended, and Carmen was sat outside the back of the restaurant with Richie, smoking as per usual. Except now, a small cardboard box sat between them. It was almost empty as the two of them snacked on the fruit between puffs of their cigarettes.
“Ya know, I read somewhere on Facebook that these are supposed to help with uh... Cancer or something.” Richie said, throwing the green leafy part back into the box.
“You’re a fuckin’ idiot, cousin.” Carmy smiled to himself, back leaned against the wall as he brought the cigarette to his lips.
“Oh, why’s that huh? Cause I can’t read shit online anymore without having to do an hour of research behind it?” Richie furrowed his brows, blowing smoke out his nose.
“No, stupid,” Carmen put the cigarette out on the concrete. “Cause you’re fuckin’ smoking, man. The fuck is a strawberry gonna do against that.”
“Yeah, well... I try to stay positive, you should fucking try it sometime, ya depressed asshole.” He grabbed another strawberry. “Where d’you get these from anyways? Shit’s pretty good.”
The image of you working at the stand flashed through his mind. “Passed by some random farmer’s market this morning. Might stop by there again, got a ton of fresh produce there for not much money.”
“Speakin’ of produce.” Richie used his thumb to point back over his shoulder to the kitchen. “Place’s out of onions. Your magical farmer’s market got those? Cause we need more by the dinner shift.”
Carmen groaned, wanting to curse at Richie for not letting him know earlier. But honestly, if it gave him a chance to go back, get more delicious strawberries and possibly redeem his awkward first impression to the pretty girl there... It might not be a bad idea. He checked the time on his watch, early afternoon, you’d probably be wrapping up right now. If he was fast, he could totally still make it. “Fine, but I’m taking your car.”
“Don’t crash it.” Richie said as he got up, ready to get back inside.
“You’re the one with a suspended license.” He joked, catching the keys Richie threw at him that were totally not aimed at his head.
“Fuck you cousin.”
Parking was a bitch, as always, but Carmen had managed to find a stall selling onions for about half of what he usually got them for. He was starting to like this market, not just for the prices, but because these were all people who worked hard and loved their products. A lot of work goes into putting something out there to sell, he would know.
He realized he might be pushing his luck if he still wanted to see you, but he decided to take the chance nonetheless and walk down the lineup. It seemed to be his lucky day, as he caught sight of your parents loading up mostly empty boxes back in the car. You were working on breaking down the stand, doing so with relative ease. You were currently folding up the tables, kneeled down onto the ground.
Again, he stared. Honestly, how could he not? It wasn’t every day he saw someone so beautiful, and with a sweet personality to match. Granted his only interaction with you had been brief, but still, he got a good vibe from you, and he was usually so distrustful.
You looked up, and by pure coincidence, your eyes met. His eyes were so intense, hues of blue that anyone would recognize, even from a mile away. You certainly recognized them from this morning at least. Your face brightened with the same smile he saw you had before, and for a second he wondered if it was just a customer service thing.
“Hi! Hope you enjoyed your strawberries!” You got up, holding the folded table under your arm.
“Sure did.” He put on a bit of an awkward smile. God, why was he doing this... What was he even supposed to say?
Your eyes squinted slightly when you read the words on his shirt. “Nice shirt... Oh, wait, you work at the Beef?”
His body tenses up a little when you mention the restaurant. Given its... Peculiar reputation, that question could be followed up by any kind of statement. “Yeah, yeah, I uh... I kinda run it now.” He decided not to mention Mikey. Seemed a bit overkill to mention your dead brother to someone whose name you don’t even know.
“Ohhh, that’s you! Yeah, I’ve seen you smoking outside before.” You extend your hand and you both introduce yourselves. “I work at a café just two blocks over. You might have seen it, it’s called Odette’s?”
Carmy nodded. He knew that place. He also knew the cranky old French lady who owned it. “Ah... Yeah. Menu still the same?”
“As long as Odette is still alive, I doubt she’ll ever let me change anything. ‘Over my dead body, cherie’”. You jokingly imitated her French accent, chuckling to yourself.
Carmen smiled, glad that he’s at least not making a complete fool out of himself now. This was good, he knew this, work and food, those were his safe topics. “Yeah, well... Maybe if she tasted one of these strawberries first, you might convince her.”
“Huh,” You thought to yourself for a second, imagining your usual grumpy boss overflowing with glee after trying the fruit from your family’s farm. “You know what, I’ve never actually thought of that. Maybe I’ll try it out!” You smile. “You know I’ve been meaning to try and serve some of my pastries there. I’m a huge baking fanatic, but she’s so... Set in her ways. I don’t know if my amateur baking skills could possibly convince her, no matter how tasty the strawberries I use are.”
“Yeah, I know what that’s like...” Carmen thought about his crew, and how much they loved their so called ‘system’. Change was good, change meant progress, but it was also scary. On that part, he didn’t blame her boss for refusing to switch things up. “If you want, I could help you out. I’m a full time chef, so... Always willing to taste test.” He hoped his poorly masked excuse to stay in touch came across as friendly, and not pushy. He always felt like he was overthinking everything when he was trying to socialize, like he was reading off some type of script. Your chipper personality made things a tad easier, at least.
“Really?” You seem to brighten up even more. Carmen is sure there’s light shining from your face from how excited you look, but he doesn’t mind. It’s amusing, almost... Cute.
“Yeah, I don’t see why not. Just uh... Let me know when.” He puts his hands in his pockets.
“Of course!” You pause, realizing he’s probably expecting you to give him some kind of contact information. Unless he was planning to use telepathic communication. You put down the folded table. “Right, sorry, uh...” You laughed awkwardly and pulled out a pen and an old receipt from your back pocket to scribble your number on, before handing it to him. “There we go!”
Carmen’s eyes went over the number, putting it in his wallet so he wouldn’t forget to save it later. “Cool, cool... So uh, text you later.” He silently cringed at his own words, trying painfully hard to play it cool.
“Yeah, totally!” Your mom called your name, and you look over your shoulder, seeing her gesture to you to hurry up. “Be right there, mama!” You chuckled. “Sorry, duty calls! But yeah, I’ll hear from you. And if I don’t, I know where you work, Berzatto.”
He chuckles slightly at your joking threat. “Sure, I’ll hold you to that.” He gives you a curt wave before walking off and letting you go back to work.
He really hoped you didn’t mean that “threat”. He’d rather die than let you see him at the Beef right when they got such a bad hygiene rating.
He was laid down on the couch late at night, watching an episode on the food network about an olive farm in Italy. He wondered if your family’s farm was anything like this one, and remembered he hadn’t even saved your number or texted you yet. Carmen rubbed his sleepy eyes and pulled out his phone, saving your number under a new contact and typing out a few quick texts. He stared at the screen for a few seconds, realized he was overthinking it and fell asleep not long after, the sound of an elderly Italian woman speaking on TV in the background.
[unknown]: hey, it’s carmen
[unknown]: guy from the beef
[unknown]: next thursday work for you?
You groaned in your bed, looking over at your phone and cursing yourself for forgetting to turn off your notifications. “The fuck...” Your eyes squinted at the brightness of the screen. A sleepy smile adorned your face when you read his name, saving his contact and texting something back quickly before putting the phone away and going back to sleep.
[y/n]: for sure!
[y/n]: let’s do 4:30 PM? café closes at 4 anyways so we’ll have the kitchen to ourselves :)))

i loveeeee this idea, it's just so sweeeettttt
day off- c.berzatto
a/n: this isn't for a fem! or male! reader but carmy does call reader 'good girl' at one point (ik, cringe but wtv), this is kinda cringey in my opinion but wtv. sorry it's kinda short too :)))))))))
summary: a day off with your boyfriend, carmen berzatto.
pairing: carmenberzatto x reader
warnings: suggestive content, fluffy and kinda cringe so I apologise for that.
It had been a terrible week. You had a huge deadline at work, you had to help your friend move apartments, and Carmen was nowhere to be seen, too busy with the Bear to be present in your relationship. Naturally, a day off was warranted.
You woke up with the sunlight streaming in from the window, and a smile on your face. You had nothing to do today. Nowhere to go, nothing to do, and a day with Carmy.
“Mornin’ baby,” he smiled, already awake.
“Morning bear,” you yawned back, feeling him pull you closer with a grip on your back and your thigh. “What do you want to do today?”
“I have a few ideas,” he smirked and pressed soft kisses against your neck as you giggled.
“We should get up and do something,” you whined. “We never get days off together.”
“We could get up and go to the couch?” he smirked again and you hit him softly on the shoulder. “Okay! Okay,” he chuckled. “What do you want to do?”
“We could go for a run-’
“No.”
“Carmy!” you whined again. “You never let me pick.”
“I’ll let you pick if it doesn’t involve physical exercise,” he smiled, pressing a kiss to your cheek. “Come on, pick somethin' fun.”
“What about… Garfield park?” You offer and he groans. “Fuck off Carmy! You never want to leave the apartment when we have days off,” you laughed.
“Yeah, why would I, when I have everything I want right here?” he smirked and grabbed your waist pinning you below him. You laughed again as he kissed your neck.
“Come on, we could go to that farmers market thing again, that was fun,” you tried as he kept kissing you, finally reaching your mouth and connecting your lips. You grinned as his lips met yours in perfect symmetry. Every now and then you wonder if you two were meant to be together, just from how perfectly you fit. “Carm-”
“We can go to the farmer’s market,” he agreed. “But when we get home-”
“I know, takeout and Monk,” You smiled. “No cooking for you, and no films for me.”
You had made it a rule to not have Carmen cook, since he cooked all week at work, and to not let you watch any films you’d worked on, since you edited films all week. It had become a tradition to order in and watch Monk.
“Good girl,” he smirked and you hit his chest, pushing him off you.
“You’re weird,” you chuckled as you got up.
“You’re the one who likes it,” he smiled and you stuck your tongue out at him.
“Shut up,” you blushed, pulling one of his jumpers over your body. “You smell, have a shower.”
“Wanna join me?” he cooed, walking up behind you and hugging you.
“Nope,” you smiled, brushing your teeth. “I washed my hair last night.”
He groaned again and rolled his eyes. “You’re no fun.”
You rolled your eyes and pressed play on whatever song was on his phone. It was soft and light, but lively enough to start the day off on a high. You danced around the bathroom as he showered, doing your skincare, then getting dressed in your bedroom. He came out of the shower and got dressed, brushed his teeth, then grabbed his keys and phone, and off you two went.
The sun was high in the sky as you two walked towards the farmer’s market you had started frequenting in recent months.
“How’s work?” he asked, a hand in yours as you walked the Chicago streets. Summer had come early this year, a heatwave made all of Chicago come out in dresses, shorts, and other summer wear.
“Fine, just finished up another trailer,” you leaned into his touch and he dropped your hand to sling an arm across your shoulders, holding you closer.
“Congratulations baby, we should do something to celebrate,” he smiled. “What do you want to do?”
“We should get the macarons from that place we like.”
“Sounds good,” he smiled, kissing your cheek.
“How is the Bear looking?”
He sighed. “Had to pull down some walls, Richie was being a fucking dick about it too, I just… I don’t wanna think about it today, y’know?”
“I know Bear, I get it,” you grinned and kissed him quickly. “I’m sure you’re doing great.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You spent a few hours out at the farmer’s market, then getting groceries, then getting the macarons. Before you went home, ordered in some fancy restaurant Camry recommended, and fell asleep on the couch, in his arms.
It was a good day.
A great day.

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for your honesty and willingness to explain how queer spaces can be a lot less transphobic than discourse within the trans community can make it seem. A lot of the past few years for me have been spent closeted out of fear that reactions around me would be uniformly hostile. Things are obviously going to be different for me as a transfem, but I have a much easier time being optimistic now!
I am so glad! Listen, the people who post online all the time about how miserably hard it is to find a place for oneself as a trans person create a kind of reverse survivorship bias. They are the people who have already convinced themselves it's best to forever remain closeted or that forging any kind of accepting community for oneself is impossible. Often, they are also people who once harbored unrealistic fantasies about just strolling up one day into a pre-existing community that was perfect for them, not realizing that we must form our relationships painstakingly one by one (it tends to be the white eggs/unhappy lonely trans people who are most prone to thinking of community in that way). there's plenty of trans guys who are doomers like this too and they really tend to actively encourage one another to remain locked away. it's like incel kind of behavior when it's taken to its most extreme form. sometimes, it can be outwardly really nasty homophobic shit too (especially among "afabs" who complain about "cis gays" never accepting them and being super privileged). in its milder form, it's just extreme trauma brain.
The people you do not hear from so much are the people who are busy out in the world going on dates, acting in plays, getting their asses spanked in dungeons, playing tabletop roleplaying games, and going to farmer's markets with their three also transgender wives. Those are the people who know (that is to say, have learned!) how to interact with their fellow queer people, have spent some time out in the community, and in all likelihood have many rich friendships with cis lesbians, cis gay men, enbies, asexuals, bisexuals, straight ish poly people, and everybody else under our big umbrella.
I don't want to be overly pollyannaish because of course trans people have a tough time, and especially trans women have unfortunately to be on the lookout for really vile transmisogyny. But I think when people are wounded and traumatized by these things, they sometimes make the entire world sound incredibly unwelcoming, which creates a self-limiting feedback loop of isolation and mistrust. That is what trauma does! But it is not the truth. and we only learn otherwise when we give other people the chance to prove our worst fears wrong.
Like, just for an example, this Sunday I was at a silent book club at Dorothy, a gay bar on the west side that skews lesbian but is for everyone. I'd never been there before but it was an absolutely charming experience! Dozens upon dozens of lesbians draped over couches and curled up in chairs with their books, quaffing cocktails, alongside a few random dots of gay and/or trans men. Trans women were just a natural completely unremarkable feature of this environment. I couldn't even tell you how many t girls were there. It would be like counting plus sized girls or butches at this lesbian function. If it's a good lesbian function, there's gonna be a diverse crowd and it won't be weird or a big deal to anyone, they'll just be like any other women there. a lot of the big lesbian events here in Chicago (like Strapped) are organized by trans women, so of course there's a robust trans femme presence there.
And all of these groups at this function were getting laid. the couches were overflowing with women, so many that girls were grabbing pillows to sit on and huddle together with their books on the floor. Girls canoodled and cuddled on couches. I saw a cis alt girl covered in facial piercings flirting with a very prim and proper trans girl who was dressed like a victorian governness. they didnt know one another, but after the silent book club hour was done, they left for a while together, then came back with some food. across from me and my friends, i watched them gathering up on the couch, the space between their bodies slowly closing up into nothing over the course of the evening. they flirted and touched and then left the bar together to (and im no expert on body language but i could pick up on this one) fuck eachothers tits right off.
and of course plenty of other lesbians and wlw paired off or tripled off and had their fun too. again, just like steamworks, fat people, thin people, black and brown people, white people, disabled people, neurodivergent people, trans people, older people, younger people, everybody was there. like any good queer space, it was just a reflection of humanity. there is always more that can be done to make these spaces more broadly accessible to full community. but part of that is by putting ourselves there.
again i dont mean to make it sound like finding and making one's space is easy! especially not for trans women! but I also don't want people to get seduced by the hopeless jadedness that some foment online. there are spaces that some trans women I know will never go to -- even an explicitly trans affirming bookstore like Women and Children First gives many trans women I know bad vibes they cant quite explain but all feel (the store is owned and run by old white cis lesbians, it's not surprising to me that it's a little fucked no matter their good intentions) -- and ive heard people say transmisogynistic stuff at events, particularly from "ill date anybody but cis men" type t boys (my brothers, i hate you). shit can be tough. very tough. but also, the world isn't all uniformly as hostile as it's made out to be. there are people who are desperate to meet you. I hope you will come out to find them.
