Pro-Palestine Brands That You Can Support!

In the spirit of the BDS Movement and other boycott attempts done across the globe, here is a thread showcasing brands that are pro-Palestine (or at least unaffiliated with Israel as of October 2023).

Worth noting is that someone on the thread above mentioned that Ben & Jerry's are pro-Palestine. This is partly true as the FOUNDERS of Ben & Jerry's, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield filed a lawsuit against Unilever to stop all sales in Israel. Unfortunately, they lost the case and the brand instead has stopped all sales in Palestine while still being available in Israel.

I have seen a lot of beauty brands being mentioned such as e.l.f, Pat McGrath Labs, Charlotte Tilbury (whose brand ambassador is Bella Hadid, famously known for being pro-Palestine and is half-Palestinian herself), Fenty Beauty, and even Dior (09/11/2023 edit #1: Dior is no longer on this list as they replaced Bella Hadid with an Israeli model, along with Fenty Beauty as Rihanna is also a brand ambassador for Puma and they had released a collaboration with the brand on September) but besides from Huda Beauty and Delhicious I have yet to see any explicit showcase of support from any other major brands so please take any information regarding beauty brands outside of the ones we are boycotting with a grain of salt.

Darkside Disney Princesses: Tiana

Guys, I'm so sorry I meant to write out a whole thing for Tiana too cuz I love her (heck yeah, Lousiana gals) but Real Life threw another wrench my way and atm I'm too tired to do writing, so this also might be the last Darkside Disney Princess :(

But my basic idea was that instead of Charlotte taking her aside when she trips at the party after hearing she doesn't get the restaurant after all, Charlotte is distracted by the faux Prince Naveeen and so Dr. Facilier, seeing a desperate soul and never one to pass up an opportunity for a deal, swoops in, takes Tiana aside and starts laying out his whole sales pitch.

And Tiana is angry and tired and feeling humilated enough to make a deal. Hard work hasn't seemed to get her anything but emptiness and disappointed in the end, maybe it is ok for her to use an easy out. Just once.

She doesn't outright wish for the other buyer to die of course, she doesn't want that. She just wants them to be unable to outbide her on the property.

But voodoo dolls are just so convenient for the good doctor.

And so then, of course, she's in his pocket. The guilt over inadvertently causing a man's death and then benefiting from it, is ripe stuff for blackmail, plus once you make one deal, it's so easy to make another amd another whenever things start to look prickly. Plenty of people in Louisiana arn't happy about a black woman running a major business, and are willing to cause trouble in all sorts of ways.

And having some untraceable trouble come back their way is just so much faster--and satisfying--then trying to fight back clean.

Of course its not all bumping off bigots and bad critics. The good doctor knows so many well connected clients who'd be willing to help the restaurant out in less magical but equally prosperous ways--in exchange for some favors here and there, some permanent table seats shall we say? Use of a backroom or account book here or there.

After a while, it just becomes more expident to have the good doctor on the premises, a permanent background fixture at the increasingly high-end restaurant, with its increasingly shady bunch of wealthysharing his skills with so many of Tiana's willing patrons.

Between his front there and his puppet prince Laurence splashing his now orphaned wife's cash towards him whenever he needs, Dr Facilier's doing more than alright for himself. At this rate, with all the souls he's collecting, he'll be paying off his debts in no time. What Lousiana (and Tiana herself) looks like with all this voodoo and increased shady dealings...well, thankfully, that's just the Darkside verse's problem...

hello. i'm elizabeth. tomorrow's garden is my seed farm that i grow in charlotte, north carolina.

why seeds?

because growing your own food is amazing, delicious, enticing, and fulfilling. but it only helps with the here and now. what about food for later? how can you make sure that no matter what life throws at you, you have food for tomorrow?

i started this farm in 2019 when i came to the realization that no matter what happens, at the end of the day, what matters is that there is food in you and your family's belly. i initially started to grow and sell vegetables and herb plants, and then when shit hit the fan the next year, i realized we need to prepare for the future, too. that's when i started learning how to save seeds. i now grow and sell plants and seeds at the local farmer's market. if you're in the charlotte, north carolina area, then check out my instagram where i post what i'll have at the market every week and come say hi.

one of the ways to make sure your plants succeed year after year is to save seeds. the parent plant takes what it learned from it's term and passes those genetics through their seeds. how crazy is that?! so many people think that they can not grow any food because they either source their plants from big box stores (that rant is for another day) or source their seed from a commercial grower. it's not them, it's captialism that's making growing food so difficult. i highly recommend sourcing from a seed farm as close to you as possible and eventually getting into the habit of saving your own. if you grow in or next to zone 8b, then i do offer my seeds for sale on my website to get you started out.

well, if i'm saving and selling seeds, then why not use that as a good excuse to do my favorite type of art, too? linocut or stamping has always been my favorite medium, even when i was little. the fact that no matter how hard you try, nothing will ever match, and there will be mistakes. a lesson to be reminded of in life, too. i post my artwork - in progress and final - as well as my farmer's market setup on my pinterest profile.

Everyone assumes Luffy and Zoro were friends in highschool, in reality Luffy and Zoro met on Zoro's first day of residency, one day before Luffy met Nami.

Ms. Charlotte owns the daycare, mostly the business side. She doesn't care to change with the times and she runs more daycare than just the one, so she leaves most of the responsibilities to her staff, and the manager, Katakuri. Katakuri will not explain himself when asked why he hired Luffy when Luffy was 17, or why he won't fire him (no Luffy is Not that good at his job)

The daycare has Bake Sale Fridays because Katakuri loves baking, the sweets are always cheap because it's not a fundraiser or anything and the net profit is usually something like $30 but he won't stop Bake Sale Fridays if the world ended. The Entire hospital staff visits for Bake Sale Fridays at 5pm when all the kids are gone, there's never a sweet left

Luffy's known Usopp since he was 7 but they hadn't seen eachother in over a decade by the story timeline

Among the numerous charges brought by the Justice Department were these:

“…between 2009 and 2011, Lynch and Chamberlain, and other co-conspirators, (1) artificially inflated Autonomy’s revenues by backdating written agreements to record revenue in prior periods; recorded revenue on contracts that were subject to side letters or other contingencies that impacted revenue recognition; and improperly recorded revenue for reciprocal or roundtrip transactions…”

As part of this alleged scheme to defraud, according to the Justice Department, “…Lynch and Chamberlain caused Autonomy to make materially false and misleading statements directly to HP [Hewlett-Packard] regarding Autonomy’s financial condition, performance, and business during the negotiations between HP and Autonomy leading up to the August 18, 2011, announcement by HP to acquire Autonomy for approximately $11 billion.”

It has been reported that Lynch made approximately $800 million on the sale of Autonomy to HP.

Both Lynch and Chamberlain were acquitted on all charges on June 7, following a jury trial that lasted three months.

Less than two months following the trial, on Saturday, August 17, Chamberlain was out running in Cambridgeshire, England and was hit by a car. Chamberlain died of his injuries after being hospitalized.

Two days later, on Monday, August 19, Mike Lynch, Chamberlain’s co-defendant in the Justice Department trial, died when his “unsinkable” 184-foot sailing yacht sunk to the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Sicily during a storm that failed to harm other nearby yachts.

Making these deaths all the more suspicious, two other individuals involved in the criminal trial died in the sinking of the yacht: the Chair of Morgan Stanley International, Jonathan Bloomer, who had been a witness for the defense; and the attorney for Mike Lynch during the trial, Chris Morvillo, of law firm Clifford Chance.

The statistical improbability of four people connected to one criminal case dying within 72 hours in two separate unusual events is raising eyebrows.

Equally suspect, there were 22 people on board the yacht with 15 people surviving, including 9 members of the 10-member crew, who made it to a life boat. Other survivors in the life boat included Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares; the Managing Partner of Lynch’s venture capital firm, Invoke Capital, Charlotte Golunshi and her one-year old daughter; and Clifford Chance lawyer Ayla Ronald and her partner, Matthew Fletcher.

The seven deceased victims from the sinking of the yacht were Lynch; his 18-year old daughter, Hannah; Bloomer and his wife, Judy; Morvillo and his wife, Neda; and the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas.

To put that more starkly, the crew had a 90 percent survival rate while the other passengers had a 58 percent survival rate.

Reuters is reporting this morning that Italian prosecutors have opened an investigation and have conducted multiple interviews with the Captain of the yacht, James Cutfield. Maritime law places the safety of the ship, crew and all passengers as the responsibility of the Captain.

For unknown reasons, the Captain was able to make it to the lifeboat while six of the seven who died were trapped below deck in cabins or hallways, where their bodies were eventually located by divers. The chef was reportedly found floating in the water.

Lynch’s life had been a living hell for the five years before the tragedy on the yacht. Prior to his acquittal in June, he had been living under house arrest for a year in a townhouse in San Francisco, with guards watching his every move.

On April 30, 2018, the former CFO of Autonomy, Sushovan Hussain, was separately tried and convicted by the U.S. Department of Justice in the same U.S. District Court that heard the case against Lynch and Chamberlain. Hussain was convicted of one count of conspiracy, fourteen counts of wire fraud and one count of securities fraud involving Autonomy’s sale to Hewlett-Packard. Hussain served five years in prison.

Another company in which Lynch’s venture capital firm had invested money following the sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard was Darktrace, a cyber-security firm which was packed with people from the U.K.’s intelligence agency MI5 and the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA). In 2023, the short-seller, Quintessential Capital Management, published a lengthy report alleging claims against Darktrace that had a familiar ring to some of the charges brought by the Justice Department against Autonomy executives.

Quintessential Capital’s researchers wrote this about Darktrace:

“Our opinion is based primarily on numerous transactions we detected during the period leading to DT’s [Darktrace’s] IPO seemingly involving simulated or anticipated sales to phantom end-users through a network of willing resellers. Darktrace seems to have repeatedly used marketing activities to channel funds back into its partners as payment for apparently fictitious purchases. These alleged channel stuffing and round-tripping activities seem to have even involved shell companies in offshore jurisdictions….”

Hewlett-Packard is no boy scout either. The company was scandalized in 2006 when Newsweek broke the story that it had spied on its own Board of Directors and journalists, illegally obtaining their phone records in some cases to ascertain with whom they had been in contact.

(A Marching Hare Story)

It was the day after the encounter with that strange little bunny. Little Charlotte Reed was still filled with awe and wonder. She had heard of the Easter Bunny, but that couldn't have been him, it wasn't Easter, it was the middle of August. He couldn't have been a figment of her imagination either, she still had that shiny rock that he had left behind, which she put in her pocket.

She walked into the kitchen, backpack over her shoulder. Her older sister by 5 years, Dee, taking a sick day, was at the table eating some pancakes. Their father, Grant, had prepared her breakfast, a simple plate of eggs and bacon. He was trying to maintain a façade of normalcy, as he too saw the bunny. But he wasn't filled with awe, rather, he was utterly confused. What in the world was that thing, was it even real? Dee looked like she could care less.

"Daddy, daddy, d'you think that someone can make this into a bracelet?"

She held up the rock. There was no way. Did that encounter really happen? He cleared his throat, straightening himself up before kneeling, getting to Charlotte's level.

"Oh, of course honey! Mr. Welker's one of the best jewelers in town!"

"Yay!", Charlotte cried, kicking with glee. She gave the rock to her father, quickly gobbling up her breakfast before making her way towards the door.

"Have a good day at school, honey! Oh, and don't forget, your Mom will be home from her trip tonight, so be ready to surprise her!"

"Okay!"

As he watched his daughter happily walk to school, he took a quick look at the rock. Still dusty from being in the ground, yet its sheen did not falter. A faded red stone, as glittery as a lake on a clear summer's day...it could've just been underneath all the presents. What sense would there be in there being a giant bunny, right?

"Are you okay Dad? Did I get you sick too?"

"No, Dee. Just pondering, that's all."

That day, Charlotte told every kid she knew about the "Birthday Bunny". While, of course, she was met with some doubt, a large sum of the children believed her. It would soon became a topic of conversation amongst parents.

One of whom, a Ms. Susan Reed, had just returned from a business trip. She had been out of town for only a few days, and missing her daughter's birthday pained her, so much so that she quit her job. There's no way being a sales rep was so important that a trip to Boca Raton was required. And besides, there were plenty of other job opportunities in Spielzeit.

As she opened the door to her home, she was greeted by the pleasant sight of her husband and daughters, with a dinner table set up with her favorite dish (and lucky sickness remedy), a good old fashioned pot of chicken and dumplings.

They hugged each other and sat down to eat. Charlotte had been waiting for this moment, she was so excited to tell her mommy about the Birthday Bunny.

"Mommy, mommy, mommy, I had a good birthday! There was a bunny that came by and gave me a gift! Daddy has it in his pocket, show her, Daddy!"

Grant pulled the rock out from his pocket, now washed and affixed to a metal band.

"I had Mr. Welker make it into a bracelet for her. It was on the house, late present for her."

As Grant gave the bracelet to Charlotte, Susan could only wonder what she had meant by "bunny".

"Charlotte, what 'bunny'?"

"Oh, it was a big, yellow bunny rabbit! He had the clangy things on drums for hands, and he had a great big smile! He gave me a present and walked away! I hope I see him again!"

"Grant, what is she talking about? Dee, did you see that bunny?"

"I saw something, but I don't think it was a bunny. It looked more like a clown."

"Oh Grant, you hired a clown? I didn't think any were available!"

"No, I didn't. I don't know what she saw, but she says it just left that rock and bounced."

Dad joke aside, this was only confusing everyone there, Charlotte excluded. This would just be a funny little occurence memorized by that bracelet she would wear on her hand. At least, it would be.

Eventually, the other children, on their birthday, would get a visit from Bunzo. They would get "gifts" such as sticks, lost coins, buttons, pretty much whatever Bunzo could find. Any who doubted Charlotte now fully believed in her.

The parents were befuddled. The few who did see it weren't laughed at, per se, but they were met with great skepticism. Teenagers in town only saw this debate as a joke. Adults were really debating whether a bunny who celebrates birthdays was real? Really? But then again, they debated the existence of a tall, blue man in the woods amongst themselves, so why judge?

Word of the Marching Hare grew and grew among the town, as did supposed sightings of other strange creatures. Was it related? Maybe, but the Bunny seemed like something more.

It had been almost a year since the first party. The date was August 14th, 1996. Little Charlotte Reed was preparing for the Bunny to return. She was turning 5 the next day. Tomorrow would be a great party, she just knew it. She just needed a gift for the special guest.

Saw the rare dad who helps daughter sell girl scout cookies today, now all i can think about is Lottie Mae joining the girls scouts.

-ahhh!!! He would so have that “dad stance” going on!! “Elvis honey, you’ve rearranged those boxes three times already- they are fine- I promise,” you reassured your husband as he fiddled with a box of cookies. “I just want to make sure that everything is perfect for her-“ “Elvis she’s five years old, this is a cookie sale…”

-would for sure walk up to people and direct them towards Lottie’s stand, “Hi- how ya doing, you see that cute lil girl over there? Yeah- ain’t she the cutest little thing? That’s my little girl Charlotte Mae and she’s trying to sell some of her um Girl Scout cookies.”

-gets way more excited whenever she makes a sale

-“Okay, babydoll- they want three boxes of the Tag-Alongs and one box of Thin Mints, so how many boxes do they need?” He would hold up the number of boxes on his fingers and she would stare at him blankly then a smile would spread across her face, “SEVEN!” She would respond happily. “No not quite but you did a good job, little one. They need four boxes, four- one, two three four.” -if business got slow he would call up the M.M and have them come and buy some boxes, I mean they probably would have already bought some from her but it’s Lottie Mae who wouldn’t want to help her?

-“Now tell Uncle Jerry thank you.” -“Tank you Uncle Jerry.”

I went to my best friend's wedding and did not engage in any Julia Roberts shenanigans, having watched the movie My Best Friend's Wedding starring Julia Roberts and learned from her mistakes.

Like the positive end of said movie, there was dancing.

The journey back and forth was a nuisance. My connection was booked too close to my arrival, so the 10 minutes late arrival and being at the back of the plane meant I had to run across the airport to a gate that said it was closed and get them to wave me on anyway. And then on landing I found out the baggage handlers had not made that run, so my luggage would be arriving 3 hours later. On the return trip they predicted that they'd put them too close together, and that I wouldn't make my connection, so they'd just put me on a flight the next day. Without telling me. I politely requested to be put on a flight the same day instead and they moved me to a better setup: Going from NY to WA they put the flight in between at Chicago instead of Charlotte, North Carolina.

I had some thoughts about that as I was taking off:

The big thing is that, from a business perspective? Having employees who "made it right" made me think highly of them individually but not of AA. My impression is that the MO is to treat everyone a little shitty and then let people who glare at employees get special treatment so they feel like they've got the inside line - a sort of "squeaky wheels" situation where you're intentionally letting everything rust. But, like, I am not an infant. I have object permanence. I'm aware that the company was treating me like shit to begin with. That in return for my several hundreds of dollars they didn't give the security that I'd arrive the same day as I intended to. They treated the quality and quantity of the service I paid them for more than a month in advance like something to be haggled over at the gate.

I don't know how much it profits them to behave this way. I just know it's lost them all the ticket sales they might have made to me specifically.
