Michael Sheen’s extraordinary gesture as he pays off debts of hundreds of people
He plays an angel on screen and he has proven he is an angel in real life by undertaking an extraordinary gesture. In an unprecedented move the actor has used his own money to write off personal debts of hundreds of people in South Wales
It’s been confirmed that Michael, who famously plays angel Aziraphale in Good Omens, has brought light and relief to many families struggling with debt with this wonderful act of benevolence.
The move was not publicly announced by the Port Talbot star, but was uncovered by fans who spotted posts on Facebook in local community groups from a television production company called Full Fat TV.
The posts read: ‘Actor Michael Sheen has been campaigning for a fairer credit system for years and in an extraordinary gesture, he has used his own money to write off personal debts for hundreds of people in South Wales. If you have received a letter from a company called Ten Acquisitions the good news is that Michael has paid off some of your debt and he’d love to hear from you. The details of how to get in touch with him are in the letter.’
Intrigued by the posts which appealed to those who had received letters from a company called Ten Acquisitions confirming that Michael had paid off debts, one fan took to X to ask him directly if the posts were true.
Fans wondered if it was somebody using his name as a scam, but the actor in replies on his X account confirmed the posts were neither clickbait nor a scam.
He wrote: ‘It’s not clickbait. I want to clarify, because we want people to get in touch.’
The campaigning Welshman, a long time advocate for a fairer credit system, has teamed up with the production company to film a documentary about the plight of those struggling due to unfair financing.
On Monday, Michael appeared in Parliament where he joined calls for a fair banking act to tackle the credit crisis affecting people and businesses.
In 2022-2023, more than 9 million were declined for credit, with millions relying on pay-day-lenders and buy-now-pay-later schemes with high interest rates. At its worst, lack of access to affordable credit means hundreds of thousands of people find themselves turning to loan sharks, while viable businesses remain stuck, unable to develop and create jobs. Campaigners are calling for a Fair Banking Act to help ensure that everyone can access essential financial services and support.
Speaking at the event in Parliament on Monday, Michael said: “Anyone can find themselves in a place where they need credit to make ends meet or to get through a difficult time. The lack of affordable credit for people on lower incomes is harming individuals and families, but also businesses and communities. Whole regions are seeing their growth held back. We can’t keep waiting and hoping that things will get better. We need something to change now. The Fair Banking Act could be the thing which really makes the difference”.

really funny that i spent 5 years in further education and put myself hundreds of thousands of pounds in unpayable debt just so i could end up perennially unemployed and on benefits while getting rejected for jobs like "starbucks barista" and "shelf stacker at aldi"
#went to a jobs fair last week and was told 'we need peer support workers for [mental health charity] and you seem like a good candidate!'#so i applied and got rejected in less than one working day by the same woman who had recommended me the job in the first place#really and truly what is the point.

I think a key thing to remember when judging all those "Astarion/Minthara/Lae'zel disapproves" reactions to like... helping orphans is that in context they're often rather realistic and practical considering what's being asked of them. If anything it's the more good-aligned companions willingness to drop everything and risk their lives to help randos in need of help that is unreasonable to expect.
Remember, from their perspective things like save-scumming are not real. They cannot metagame and prepare for what specific enemy or attack they might face. In-universe, death has consequence and you can die. Plus we're on an unknown time limit here to potential squid-ifying, not to mention their own personal baggage.
It's like... they're playing blind and on Honour Mode, and the consequences of failure isn't just a story going the way you might not like or your fave character dying. It's actual life and death. There are real stakes here for them.
So while yes they can approve of just... petty asshole stuff or even genuinely evil stuff, it's not unreasonable for them to have a problem with risking their lives for random strangers. Because if they're in your party, that's what you're doing. Making the choice to put their lives on the line for strangers. If anything they're all oddly brave and ride-or-die for whatever bullshit decisions you make from the start--I mean it takes a lot of reckless altruism while also being an asshole to them specifically (it's not hard to balance their approval by being nice to them directly on a good playthrough) to get them to hate you, let alone ditch the group.
#bg3#I feel like as players we get blinded by all our player knowledge and how the stakes feel to US#that we forget to look at how they impact the characters in-universe#like my previous post on how the Emperor has very sympathetic and understandable reasons for manipulating you#and is even quite restrained and fair considering what the stakes are for it#like with how the math actually plays out. Astarion will grumblingly put his life on the line for whatever side quests you want to go on#and will still come to like and trust you so long as personally you're supportive of him and his bodily autonomy#and even the more power-hungry evil stuff... Minthara and Astarion usually approve of such for very practical (if ruthless)#reasons because for them power = safety#Minthara is actually very chill and trusting of your judgment considering how she lived prior to joining us on our quest#to help every kitten stuck in a tree#and Lae'zel is actually very compassionate. it just presents very aggressively and selectively#and like obviously as adventurers now risking their lives is kinda par for the course#but I still can't judge them entirely for disliking being volunteered out for charity work with no guaranteed reward#and a very real chance of death

Re-read of Little Zuko Book One: complete
In-Jokes: re-uploaded to my brain
Book Two Outline: (very) rough draft complete
Am I Using This To Procrastinate On My Other Writing Projects: absolutely
#to be fair the next chapter of Fox's Tongue just needs an edit read so that's just a weekend dedicated-writing-time thing#other project is my Blind Zuko one#won a beta from the awesome blindbeta during a charity auction so that is a huge motivation to actually get that outlined#the fandom needs more Zuko and Toph Being Blind Buddies content#I do enjoy the content already existing but it is#A) slim pickings#and B) mostly focused on Zuko rapidly learning to see again via firebending#when the content I crave is Actual Blind Buddies#what crimes will they commit#and who will believe that cabbage merchant when he testifies against them#avatar the last airbender#atla#Zuko#Toph#(also the more I research on blind tropes the more the current blind Zuko fics are a bingo card of Tropes Sighted People Like)#(hence working with an actual sensitivity reader on this one)

Hello! I hope you are well.
I was wondering- If I were to get your fic The False and the Fair printed and bound, how much would be an acceptable donation to you so I can I can compensate you since it is your story?
I understand if that’s not something you’d prefer be done with one of your stories, but I just wanted to ask as it’s a story I think about nearly every day, and I’d love a physical copy to sit and read. And you definitely deserve to be paid for your work.
Hi! I think I missed this ask when it was first sent--apologies to you anon!
It's so kind that you want to print and bind my fic and I'm honored that it means so much to you.
Unfortunately the logistics of binding a fic can be a bit complicated. Many commercial websites which offer typesetting and binding services have fine print in their contracts which essentially gives them the copyright to the work (I know it is often more of a gray area than this legally, but I have friends who have been burned by this in the past). Because it's important to me to retain the copyright for the work, I would prefer that readers do not use commercial typesetting/printing/binding services for any of my fics, but this fic in particular.
Luckily, there are other ways to get a physical copy made! When I finished writing the fic, I had it printed and bound at kinkos (a copy/print chain in the US), which does not make any layout changes or keep the files. This can be done with files of the fic downloaded off of AO3. I also have several wonderful friends who made a PDF version of the fic for me with a cover and in a layout optimized for printing. Please DM me if you would like a copy of this version.
Finally, @nieded has her own binding set up at home and I know that she has bound a version of the fic. Perhaps you could get in touch with her to see if she would make an extra for you?
In terms of financial compensation--I write fanfiction for fun and have absolutely no need or desire to be paid for it. If you do have extra funds to spare, I would recommend donating the amount you would have paid for the fic to a community organization that's in keeping with the themes of the fic. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
WV Rivers (water quality focused environmental action group in West Virginia)
West Virginia Climate Alliance (collective of many environmental advocacy groups in the state, advocates for employment opportunities for current/former coal employees as well as for environmental protections)
Appalachian Queer Youth Summit (yearly free summer leadership opportunity run by the ACLU)
Community Education Group (one of the very few Appalachian specific HIV/AIDS action groups, and an organization I don't know much about but which seems to be doing good work)
Womens Health WV (used to be the only abortion provider in the state prior to total abortion ban going into effect, provides STI diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in addition to reproductive health services)

it's kind of wild that jessie gender used the word transandrophobia in a youtube video. i've never seen that happen before. people gotchaing you know who for blatantly misgendering rebecca sugar and nate stevenson was the most callout of actual transmasc or afab transneutral erasure i've seen from the video essay space in memory, and even that was mostly just to pad out the callout post
#it's nice to hear literally one transfeminine person self-reflect on the way people talk over trans men in the youtube literati sphere#but. to be fair. a LOT of people called the lack of visible trans men out during hbomb's mermaids charity stream years back#there was a lot of scrambling to find transmasc guests towards the end. like.. irrc just tweeting out for guests#and then idk i don't think it moved the needle at all after that#(but also i stopped watching cpoints during the middle of her 'being cancelled for nonbinary erasure' era so idk if she changed)#other than that... in the mask off vid in l.e.'s final yt days she apologized for saying trans men have it easier than trans women#citing (as everyone seems to) elliot page finally showing the world that trans men are treated like dogshit#which uh. hm. i get that saying that doesn't call anyone of lesser visibility out#but frankly i'm shocked that she spent so much time in HER fandoms seemingly without ever encountering trans men lmao#(that's a joak. i remember it was way less visible a decade ago. fandom spaces were very girls club back then)#i'm rambling now lol#it's... a little wild that the misgendering was assigned to misogyny alone if i'm being honest. it was literally in the misogyny section#and it was about classing them as women to say that they were ALLOWED to show 'nonthreatening' wlw stories

see i have all these spicy takes in the drafts that i don’t post out of self-restraint but then i see a spicy take that i hate SO MUCH and then i want to post mine out of revenge. it’s a terrible cycle tbh.
#it is actually and fundamentally not good for my weaknesses to be here lol#but I also love it! And love the community and the support and don’t find a ready-made replacement for that in real life#so yeah. I wrestle with it#if I could always use it as an opportunity to practice charity and restraint and shutting up it would be a good thing#but I have to be careful with any known potential irritant because I have such a temper and get so genuinely pissed off so easily#while also having poor impulse control#and like. it isn’t fair of me to be out there baiting people with my opinions and being provoking with takes I know will be upsetting#to the circle in which I move on here#but I also love to say a thing I think is true or feel is true and talking my way into a more nuanced opinion is how I do it!#but also like. the simple truth is that it also isn’t kind or charitable or necessary most of the time#no matter how I try to dress it up with comments on my personality and how I learn/like to analyze things#I really wrestle with it. there was a part of me that so at peace when I was gone from tumblr (essentially) for half a year#but again. I missed it#teaching helps a lot. my personality can take the very age-appropriate obnoxiousness and idiocy that comes with talking about literature#to teenagers#but I’m kind of so over trying to have a nuanced conversation online#it’s just so hard. I need the body language and the one to one you can only have in person for certain conversations#and disagreements. tbh it’s better and kinder and just BETTER if i stay out of it online#but I never do it perfectly#I’m just rambling. But yeah#thanks for listening#this has been#3 text posts in a row with Maria
