i looove how parent/child love is handled in umineko, and the differences between everyone's perceptions of how to show their love, and how to view other people's loves

krauss was always told he had to become a suitable heir by kinzo and was raised accordingly, even though he really didn't want to. krauss shows his love for jessica by being more hands-off, unlike his own childhood, and even encouraging "un-heir-like" hobbies like her boxing.

natsuhi was given away by her family in a marriage she didn't want. she shows her love for jessica by being strict and controlling. natsuhi wants jessica to always feel that she supported and cared about her future and success, and to never feel "given away" without a second thought.

meanwhile, jessica sees natsuhi's "love" as stifling and has to deal with it by running away to school and hiding her true self from her mother. while they don't go deeply into jessica and krauss's relationship, the vibe i get is that she gets along better with him.

compare that to lion, who thrived with the strict parenting style and always recognized how natsuhi loved and cared for them. as an alt!yasu, what matters to them is having family/unconditional love in the first place and not necessarily how that love manifests.

eva was always told she would never amount to anything, and to stop trying so hard. so she shows her love for george by telling him he'll amount to great things, and to always try his hardest. she will always support his journey. hideyoshi lost his whole family so he shows his love by always striving to be friendly with others, and to always bring positivity to other's lives, because being together with family is the most important thing. so he steps away from strict parenting and lets eva handle it.

and we know about george's feelings on eva's love for him, even though he, just like jessica, recognizes that their mothers love them. however, he admires his father and wants to be just like him!

rudolf got ignored and had to carve out his own place in the world - and it wasn't with his family. he loves battler by letting him do his own thing, so much so he lets battler leave the family register. if being away from them will make battler happier, then rudolf'll accept it.

meanwhile, battler has a complicated relationship with rudolf whose parenting style makes him think rudolf doesn't actually have any familial feelings at all, and resents him for it. he adores asumu though, who was outwardly kind and loving to him!

battler even forgives rudolf and agrees to return to the ushiromiya family when he realizes that rudolf actually DOES love his family, after spending so many years convinced rudolf never actually cared after all

and rosa...also ignored, but also bullied to kingdom come by her siblings for being "stupid." so she sees maria, who's also susceptible to being bullied, and tries to make her into being someone who would NOT be bullied. who could be "normal."

maria though...she's the only one who can actually see rosa's love for what it is, though, past all the layers of abuse, control, and trauma, that the other ushiromiya cousins struggled so deeply with. so she resolves to love her mama, regardless...

it's extra cool thinking about how lion also has a sibling. lion and jessica are very, very different! lion gets to tease and bully jessica but they still love and care about each other!!

it's fun that in the "ideal" world with ideal relationships for lion with natsuhi, kinzo, etc. lion and jessica feel much more like regular siblings! compared to yasu's world with all these broken relationships, and yasu created the "ideal" sibling relationship with shkanon...

Can't forget such things. Especially after the MK-Ultra cleanse, when the memories of the past life of a certain Ekaterina Burova gradually returned to her consciousness. It was as if he was somewhere far away, in his thoughts, trying to figure out what was happening and analyze everything that was happening between him and the woman he wanted to take her life a few years ago. Everything was different now. But he could not have imagined that everything would be exactly like this. Bell grabbed Adler's sweater, which was lying on the edge of the bed, and quickly pulled it on. She had never liked the morning cold, and she preferred to surround herself with warmth. Only her touch on his hand brought Adler out of the abyss of thoughts. — How are you? — Bell asked almost in a whisper. After another drag, he answered:

Bell is standing so close that Adler can put his hand on her shoulder. And he does it, pulling the woman towards him, it was easy, because she reached out on her own. With a movement of his hands, he turned her back to him, and the pleasant fabric of the sweater touched his body. The man felt Bell tremble — either from that same anxiety written on her face, or from the morning cold, which (even though she was wearing a sweater) hit her bare legs. He knew for sure that it was the first one.

Internal trembling prevented Bell from thinking clearly and daytime thoughts returned to her head — what will happen next and how far will it all go?

Only a strong drag helped to drown out these thoughts for a very short time — Adler carefully offered her a cigarette, which he had been smoking for a short time and Bell accepted it with pleasure. She exhaled acrid smoke and leaned her head back on his shoulder, closing her eyes. Only for a moment, but she felt how the trembling and anxiety retreated, especially when Adler hugged her with a strong arm. When he is near, when he can just hug her for no reason, when they smoke and share it with each other, when he easily smiles at her — each such moment, calming Bell, she values ​​​​the most.

— I want this moment to last forever. — Bell says again in a half-whisper. Adler slowly kisses her temple. — Me too, sweetheart. — He understands perfectly what she is talking about. Because he feels the same.

At least for a moment.
