Bucky tumbled and turn, mumbles and sharp inhales cut through the air like a knife. Steve woke up when he felt Bucky violently shaking the entire bed from fear, and Steve quickly got up to go get a big cup of water before setting it calmly onto the nightstand.

Steve softly starts rubbing Bucky’s tense bicep, working to slowly bring Bucky out of his nightmare as easily as possible. Despite his best efforts, Bucky shot right up and looked like he had seen the worst death of his life. Whatever he was dreaming about really rocked him this time.

Steve immediately pulled Bucky to his lap, carefully cupping the back of his head, and tightly holding Bucky to his chest. Bucky clinged onto him tightly, the attempt to break through the terror in his little head not going over so well.

Bucky tried to tell Steve he wasn’t big, tried to mumble anything to give him a idea, anything at all, but nothing came through his mouth, like he was suffocating in a puddle of words that he couldn’t quite make out.

Steve could tell from the look of pain and lack of words that Bucky wasn’t doing well with his words, so Steve just started to ask yes or no questions, something to help Bucky communicate.

“Little?” Bucky nodded.

“Thirsty?” Another little nod.

Steve gently brought the cup of water he collected earlier to bucks lips, helping him to drink before he takes the now half empty cup and wipes Bucky’s lips softly. He gently kisses Bucky’s forehead before he softly starts to rock Bucky. He didn’t know if Bucky would end up going back to sleep, or if it was going to be a day where 3am was their time to be up. He just knew that his baby needed him.

Bucky clinged to Steve like his life depended on it. Like the nightmare was going to become real and Steve was going to be ripped away from him. There was no way he was going to let Steve out of his hands or out of his sight.

This how the duo stayed even after sleep lulled them both back to sleep. When they both awoke again, little Bucky was still out and about, but Steve was nothing but happy to be able to take care of the love of his life.

The times Bucky had nightmares wasn’t ever going to be easy, and it could very well be the rest of his life, but Steve would be there every time to be able to reassure him that he’s safe and sound.

Engrossed in your coloring book, you sat on the living room floor as the Sunday afternoon sun shined brightly through the windows. Your beloved pacifier is firmly in your mouth. Exchanging a glance, Steve and Bucky silently agreed that it was time to try and get to take a break from it for today. 

“Hey, Baby…” Steve began gently as he knelt beside you. “How about we try going without your paci for a little while?” 

You clutched the pacifier even tighter as your eyes widened. “No, Papa,” you mumbled around it while shaking your head. 

He stroked your hair, offering a warm smile. “We just thought it might be good for you to play without it for a little bit.” 

Tears welled up in your eyes due to the surge of anxiety that rushed through you. “No, Papa,” you insisted, your voice starting to tremble. “I need my paci.” 

Steve gently took your hand after exchanging a concerned look with Bucky. “We’re not taking it away forever, Baby, just a short break. How about we play a game together?” 

Spilling over your cheeks, your tears soaked your skin as you shook your head vigorously. “No! I want my paci!” you cried, feeling more upset with each passing second. 

Bucky sighed softly, reaching out to wipe your tears. “Shh, it’s okay, Tiny.” 

You hiccuped through your sobs, still clinging to your pacifier. “I need it, Daddy,” you repeated. 

Steve’s hand gently stroked your back, trying to calm you down. “Okay, baby. How about we try something fun together? Would you like to bake some cookies? Cupcakes?” 

You hesitated for a moment, tempted by the idea, your tears slowly. However, you clutched your paci even tighter. “No, I need my paci,” you whispered again, almost desperately. 

Another sigh came from Bucky as he gently lifted you onto his lap, rocking you soothingly. “How about we read one of your books together? Or… maybe we watch a movie?” 

Sniffling, you shook your head again. “No, I want my paci,” your voice wavered as you insisted. 

Steve and Bucky were at a loss as they exchanged another glance. “Okay, baby. We just want you to be happy.” Steve said softly, placing a gentle kiss against your forehead. 

“And, if that means keeping your paci for now, that’s okay,” Bucky added, his fingers tracing light patterns up and down your back. 

Nodding, you snuggled close to Bucky, content with your pacifier in place as you felt the warmth and love from them. Wrapping an arm around both of you, Steve’s presence soothed you. 

Just then, Peter rushed into the room, curiosity etched on his face. “What’s going on?” he asked, noticing the cuddle. 

He climbed onto the couch, and without a word, he squeezed in beside you and Bucky. Steve wrapped his arm around Peter as well, chuckling at the antics.

Despite all your insomniac nights, taking a cat nap in the backseat of Stevie's car was surprisingly easy.

bump! bump!

The crevices and rocky ground of Dada's favorite road warmed you and cooed the pangs and aches in your body. The dips were like being rocked by mother nature.

'thank you mama tree'

crunch! crunch!

Ah, that's the sound of your anxieties melting away. Really it's the gravel getting all crunched up but you know... same difference.

Your Dada was in love with these backroads. Tomorrow, while you down some fruity pebbles, you'll tell him again that they really should get married. They see each other all the time! It made trips take longer but that just meant more time with Stevie.

bop! bop!

The tapping of your head against the window was actually quite gentle. Sometimes, it'd hurt, and that's when you'd whine to Stevie that "ow it hurt!! dada whyyy!!?" To get you to stop, he'd get your favorite fast food (it was the plan all along and Stevie most definitely knew-). This time, Dada was driving super, duper slow so the bumps didn't hurt. They soothed you instead and made you very, very sleepy.

Your legs were tucked close to yourself. You laid curled up like a cat in the cold winter. In better days, you'd find your position annoyingly uncomfortable but you were so eepies- I mean sleepy.

It was kind of like leaves falling from the really tall trees in the rainforest. Sleep didn't come fast but crept up on you.

You enjoyed watching the view go by the window and the mental image of a little superhero doing parkour, racing with Dada's pickup truck. The trees had all sorts of colors and some animals hop, hopped, and peeked out from the bushes.

Everything eventually became grey, then black but you didn't mind. It was so calming, this rest your eyelids have found.

'Oh, they closed? Ooooh that's why the superguy disappeared.'

"Welcome back, Steve-O." Bucky stood at the door frame, hands resting in his jacket pockets.

Steve placed his pointer finger on his lips and tilted his head, indicating that you were asleep.

Bucky firmly nodded and held a gentle smile. 'You're finally asleep! Aww, you deserve it, little dear.'

Your dada traded places with Bucky, leaving to go get himself ready for bed.

Daddy peeked through the windows and found you with your little head against the car door. He walked around to the door opposite of you, and moved very carefully as to not wake you.

Snores filled the air and Bucky had to hold back a giggle. He thought it was so freaking cute, don't worry!

"Come here, little one." He whispered and securely held you up against his chest. Warm and snug.

Your daddy walked into your bedroom, where Steve had been waiting and prepared your bed for you.

"Here you are, darling." Daddy laid you down.

Buck and Stevie kissed the top of your head and tucked you in.

"Goodnight, sunflower."

Steve and Bucky were so very in love, and they weren’t afraid to show it. Every morning when Steve put breakfast down on the table, he’d kiss Bucky on the lips before they each began eating, their own little way of saying grace. Peter would always giggle, usually regressed around that silly age when kisses meant cooties, but you were too little to understand. Every time one of them left the house, they’d share a kiss; sometimes even just when one of them left the room. You were so tiny, you didn’t fully comprehend what it meant, your brain only really working in concepts. All you knew was that daddies meant love, and daddies kissed a lot, so kisses must mean love too. You wanted to return the favor.

That morning, you were woken up by Steve’s strong arms lifting you out of your crib. You blinked sleepily and smiled at him from behind your paci, your cheeks rounding out and your eyes squinting as you did so.

“Good morning angel, I love you,” Steve greeted, always wanting the first thing you heard every morning to be words of love. He kissed you on the forehead and shifted you into the crook of his arm so he could carry you out into the living room with one hand. As he did so, you leaned forward, tapping the plastic of your pacifier against his cheek. 

“Woah, what was that, baby?” Steve asked with a slight chuckle. He didn’t think you’d really be violent with him, but he wasn’t sure what you could be doing when you clumsily headbutted his cheek. 

You were too small to explain it, your little brain couldn’t find the words. All you could think to do was kiss him, over and over and over. 

“Mwah, mwah, mwah!” You mumbled softly from behind the paci, softening your taps in the hopes he’d get the memo. And boy did he. “Is that a kiss? Are you kissing daddy?” Steve asked with wide, excited eyes and laughter in his voice.

You nodded, giggling as you kissed him again, again, again. Steve kissed you back, planting his lips on the plastic, which made you giggle even more. Then, he carried you into the living room where Bucky and Peter were, with a huge grin on his face. 

“Buck! Look what our baby can do!” He said with glee, and then tapped on his cheek, motioning for you to kiss him once more, which you did joyously.

Bucky cheered and clapped for you, getting up from the couch to give a standing ovation, which made you beam even harder from behind the paci. 

“Can I have one, babydoll?” He asked eagerly, and you nodded, reaching out from Steve’s arms towards Bucky’s.

You happily kissed your Baba all over his face, giggling after each one until eventually the kisses devolved into you just nuzzling your paci across his cheeks like a puppydog. Steve joined the cuddlefest on the couch, pinching your little round cheeks. Peter had been distracted from his toys since the moment you entered the room, watching your interactions with captivated awe, but he finally couldn’t stand it anymore. He stood up, letting a toy car fall from his hand with a clatter. 

“‘S not fair! I want kisses too!” He whined with a pout.

You didn’t want your Petie to feel left out, you loved him just as much as you loved your daddies of course. You reached out to him now, kicking your little feet with delight as he ran over to the three of you. Now your whole family was together on the couch, and you took turns kissing each of them, and each of them took turns kissing you. You’d already mastered your newest skill, and you couldn’t wait to keep practicing every single day.

The second the elevator door opened to the common floor Peter ran out and jumped on the big couch, reserving a seat for him and you like he does every time for movie night.

Bucky shook his head with a smile and turned his attention to you. Today you felt smaller than usual, which neither your caregivers nor Peter mind. They love you, doesn't matter the headspace.

"You okay, baby?" he asked and you nodded, smiling behind your paci you leaned forward to kiss his cheek.

Bucky walked over to Peter to hand you in his awaiting arms, knowing the boy could get fussy when he doesn't have his cuddle partner. To be fair, Peter is very protective over you and when you're in babyspace he's constantly on alarm, making sure you're happy and safe.

Half an hour later the common area was filled with chatter and laughter, everyone talking about how they have been before it was time to decide on a movie together. While the heroes chat you were going around giving each person a cuddle and a paci kiss, it's nothing new to the others how affectionate you can be.

Right now you were on Steve's back, arms wrapped around his neck and giggling, moving your head forward to give him a paci kiss against his cheek and letting out a surprised squeal when he pretended to drop you. If only you knew that you were the only little having so much fun at this moment. Peter was pouting on the couch with his arms crossed.

He doesn't know why he feels this way but seeing you giving everyone in the room the love and attention that he and your mommy and daddy were usually getting only, has him sulking on the large couch.

Natasha being the attentive assassin she is noticed almost instantly what was going on. She stopped her conversation with Clint and made her way to sit next to Peter nudging his shoulder.

"Wanna tell me what got you all pouty?" she teased, pulling slightly at his bottom lip that was jutted out.

He smiled a little but went back to frowning at his mommy before mumbling. "Just wanna have tiny for me alone..."

"Ah, I see..." She replied, moving some of his curls from his face and leaning closer to whisper to him. "Give it some time and she will be glued to your side."

On the other side of the couch, you were sitting on your knees between Bucky and Steve, occasionally listening to their conversation and looking around until your daddy tapped your thigh to get your attention.

"I think Peter needs some snuggles from his little sister, you think you can help him out?" he asked and you nodded your head proudly, a big smile forming behind your paci.

You instantly crawled your way over to Peter, shocking him first but he smiled the second you leaned forward to give him a paci kiss, and not just one, you kissed him all over his face until you were sure he was his happy self again.

"Lub Petie," you said proving it by giving him one last paci kiss on his lips.

"I lub you too, Tiny." he smiles brightly wrapping his arms around you to pull you in for a long hug.

When you were sure he was satisfied with the attention you gave him you switched from Peter to sitting on Bucky's lap, reaching over to play with your mommy's hair and also giving her and your daddy a paci kiss while the others cooed at the whole interaction.

Bucky cherishes the days where him and Steve stay home with you. When you woke up small today, they were so excited to be able to finally have a day to be caregivers together.

After a long few weeks of them being stuck in either the tower or on a mission, they finally had a day where they were both home and you could have both of your caregivers.

Steve had let you sleep in their bed the night before because he was just so excited to be able to spend all day with you. This included wanting to wake up and hold you close to him.

Steve who normally would drop everything if someone in the tower needed him or at least respond because he always had a objective to be a responder completely turned off his work phone and even his personal phone. He wanted no interruption from the others that weren't you and Bucky.

Days like this Bucky knows hes about to die if absolute cuteness overload because the days you have both of your cgs is the days your littlest side comes out and your able to be as free as you need because one of them will always be there.

When Steve gets into "Nothing but my babys" mode, he knows you will get practically anything you want, and bucky will get unlimited kisses (not like he doesn't get that anyways, but they just feel so different when Steve's overflowing with joy).

Bucky realized soon after breakfast that he needed to go out to the store and get some new things for dinner. He loved to cook for you and Steve, and seeing as Steve would burn anything he touched, it was a good thing he loved to cook.

"Hey, I have to head out to go get a few things from the store, do you need anything?" Bucky steps into the living room where Steve has you on his lap facing him while you were holding his face.

Steve's laugh filled Bucky's ears as you squished your Papa's face and were trying to imitate fish noises.

"Steve, do you need anything from the store?" Bucky asked again, leaning against the kitchens door frame, admiring how happy you both looked.

"Huh? Oh uh, no I don't think so?" Steve glances up at Bucky before returning his attention to you.

Bucky figures he'll get you and Steve a surprise at the store while he's there but if Steve needs anything, he'll text him.

Bucky gathers his items to leave the house and puts on his shoes before he turns back to the living room where you and Steve still were.

"Okay I love you guys I'll be back" Bucky's voice echos loud enough to be heard but not to startle you or Steve.

"Love you!" Is all he hears back.

Maybe he heard wrong?

Bucky walks over to you and Steve when have transitioned into laying on the couch next to eachother, the tv playing your favorite cartoons.

"What?" Bucky asks.

"What?" Steve looks up at him confused.

"I love you." Bucky repeats, looking at Steve with a eyebrow raise.

"...Love you too?" Steve continues to look at Bucky, unsure of what Bucky's getting at.

"I love you"

"Love you too??"

"Who loves me??"

Steve finally puts two and two together and looks at Bucky before laughing slightly and looking at buck with a humored apologetic face.

" We love you, buck." Steve smiles at Bucky before he glaces down at your droopy eyes. He begins to play with your hair before looking back at Bucky.

"Thank you." Bucky smiles before he walks over to the couch and kisses your basically asleep head.

Bucky goes to walk away before Steve catches his hand and pulls him into a kiss, them both smiling into it.

Bucky eventually pulls away, and kissed Steve's nose before heading out to the store. The moment making him smiley the entire way.

The days where neither of them have to hear anything about the bad parts of the world and they're able to just absolutely bathe in eachothers plus your love are the days they remind themselves they can do anything.

Bucky cherishes the days where him and Steve stay home with you, because this meant that the two most important people to him were around to love him, but most importantly, he was around to love you guys.

An uncomfortable, dull ache adorned your lower abdomen when you woke you. Stirring in your bed, curling up into a ball against the sheets, you realize that your period has started. You tried to ignore the discomfort and quietly approach the bathroom– you wanted to handle it yourself without drawing too much attention.

As the morning progressed, the cramps grew worse and made it difficult to hide the pain. Wincing, you tried to stay distracted with toys, but even Peter was noticing something wasn’t right.

“Are you okay?” Pete asked, he pointed to your arms clutching around your stomach, concern etched in his features. 

“I’m fine,” you mumbled.

Worried, Peter made it his mission to find either Steve or Bucky. “Papa? Daddy? I think something’s wrong with Tiny,” he said, taking Steve’s hand and leading him back to where you were sitting. 

Steve knelt beside you, a large hand reaching out to rub your back, his brow furrowed with concern. “Sweetie? Are you okay? Do you need anything?” 

Shaking your head, you didn’t want to explain. “I’m o-okay, Papa.” 

“Are you sure, baby?” Bucky asked, exchanging a worried glance with Steve. “You don’t look so good.” 

Tears began to fill your eyes, the pain becoming too much to bear. “My tummy hurts,” you finally admitted, quietly.

“Do we need to take you to the doctor?” Steve asked, his heart aching to see you in pain.

“No, it's just–” you sniffled, shaking your head. “It’s my period,” you whispered, heat rushing to your cheeks.

Bucky’s face dawned with understanding, and he gently brushed a strand of hair behind your ear, “It’s okay, Baby. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Should we call Auntie Nat? We can see if she’s free to come over.” 

Relieved at the thought of having Natasha here, you nodded. “Yes, please.” 

Within the hour, Natasha brought a comforting presence. She entered the living room to find you curled up on the couch, holding your stomach, and the two men looking on worriedly. 

“Hey there, sweets,” Nat softly said, sitting down beside you. “I hear you’re not feeling well.” 

The tears threatened to spill down your cheeks as you looked up at Nat, nodding toward her. “It hurts, Auntie Nat.” 

With a warm smile, Nat pulled a small bag out of her purse. “Don’t worry, I’ve got some things that will make it all better. Come on, let’s get you more comfortable.” 

Natasha held a heating pad against your stomach and helped you with some pain relief medication. In her bag, she also brought some snacks, sweet and salty. She gently stroked your hair while sitting beside you, and she spoke in a soothing voice– helping to distract you from the pain.

Watching gratefully from the kitchen, Steve and Bucky share a knowing look. You were in good hands, better hands than they could provide at this time. After preparing a light lunch, they brought it over to you and Nat.

“Thank you, Nat,” Steve said, his tone sincere as he handed her a cup of coffee.

“Anytime,” she replied, giving him a reassuring smile. “I’m always here for my favorite little.” 

“Hey!” Peter shouted from the floor, where he was lying while watching the television. He sent an exaggerated pout toward Nat, crossing his arms over his chest. “What about me?” 

Natasha’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “You know you’re my favorite big little,” she teased, giving him a playful wink, and taking a sip of coffee.

As the day went by, your cramps eased and you felt better knowing you had people around you who cared about you. Aunt Nat stayed for the majority of the day, keeping you company until you felt more like yourself again.

And, by the time you were tucked into bed, you felt much better. “Thank you, Papa. Thank you, Daddy.” you softly spoke, fighting back a yawn. “Thank you for calling Auntie Nat.” 

“Of course, Baby,” Bucky said, placing a gentle kiss against your forehead. “We’re always here for you, no matter what.” 

Nodding, Steve took your small hand in his, placing kisses against your knuckles. “And, you can always tell us anything, okay? We love you.” 

With a sleepy nod, you smiled. “I love you too.” 

You felt grateful for your family. And, as you drifted off to sleep, you knew no matter what they would always be there to support you.

then you hear the oven beep on.

"come here angel, i got a surprise"

daddy takes a packet of cookie dough from the back of the fridge, high up on the top shelf where you can't even reach. he puts two squares on a metal sheet, one for him and one for you.

"don't tell... but these are dada's magic cookies. sometimes when you're already asleep, daddy makes a special cookie before bed as a little treat... maybe they'll work for you too!"

cookies are one thing, but a magic cookie? and right before bed?? you couldn't believe how quickly your night was turning around. your sour mood dissipates as the kitchen fills with the smell of sugar. daddy pours another bottle for you to wash down your cookie, and your tummy feels just as warm as your heart as daddy rocks you to sleep.

Bucky picks at the thread of his sleeve, shifting in his seat of the car Tony bought for him and Steve to share, the leather seats are comfortable and familiar, though it does little to ease his nerves. The party he just fled from was awful.

It had started with a few passing comments about Bucky still being the winter soldier, then it changed to him and Steve, then to him being a little. Everything seemed to go downhill after that, Natasha was quick at jumping up to defend Bucky, yelling in the reporters face as Tony stood behind her doing the same. Thor and Bruce were busy trying to de-escalate things as Tony was starting to threaten pulling out one of his old suits of armor that can “do some real damage”.

Steve hadn’t said much during it, holding Bucky’s hand and whispering that nothing the mean people were saying is true. Then he told Bucky to wait in the car, saying he could take Nat with him if he needed but Bucky opted for going alone.

He’s still waiting for Steve to come outside. It’s been ten maybe fifteen minutes, Bucky’s starting to feel dread twist in his gut, maybe Steve isn’t coming? Maybe he’s in there agreeing with the reporters?

The door opening and closing in one sweep pulls Bucky from his thoughts, his eyes snap to see Steve sliding into the seat next to Bucky’s own. He’s a bit out of breath, part of Bucky gets nervous that maybe Steve’s having an asthma attack like he did when they were younger, but Steve takes in a big breath that seems to fix the problem.

“Sorry that took so long baby, we can go home now.” Barnes nods, turning away from Steve so he can’t see the tears welling in his eyes. His heart aches with the thought of Steve being on the reporters side of things, his headspace is making it harder to hold in the emotions he’d usually shove deep down to only ever touch late at night when nobody could hear him cry.

“Bucky? What’s wrong?” Steve reaches to brush a lock of long hair behind Bucky’s ear, he can’t help but sniffle at the action. How can Steve be so tender after just bashing his headspace? His own caregiver, how could he?

“Wh- why didn’t you defend me?” His bottom lip wobbles when he turns to see Steve’s shocked face.

“W-what?” He sounds perplexed, eyebrows furrowed thickly.

“In- inside you weren’t gonna say anything, you asked me to leave, wh-why?” His chest hitches under the heavy breaths he takes in, more tears starting to slip down his cheeks that he wipes at hastily.

“What do you mean?! Of course I was going to defend you, nobody has the right to talk about you like that! I just didn’t want you in the room while I did it.” Steve’s tone falls soft by the end, he leans to hold Bucky’s cheeks in both hands, brushing away the stray tears on his skin and pressing a kiss to his forehead.

“I didn’t mean to worry you, I’m sorry baby. I promise I will always defend you.” He takes Bucky into a tight huge quickly, rubbing his hands at Barnes’ back and peppering kisses into his hair.

“You’re my baby, and nobody gets to be mean to my baby. Understand?” He nods under Steve’s hold, nuzzling in closer as he feels the car starting to pull out of the towers driveway.
