🎀 Current At Home Workout Equipment I Own
Thick Yoga Mat - since I do mainly yoga and pilates my thick yoga may (amazon brand) has served me well. Even tho I am a heavier woman at the moment, I've never had pain or any issues with this mat, and it came with a carry strap which I love! A good, thick workout mat is definitely necessary for working out at home for comfort, safety, etc. Make sure to disinfect it on occasion, especially if you sweat on it a lot!
Resistance Bands - I have about 3 or 4 at different resistance strengths, and they're incredibly useful for a variety of movements, especially lower body ones. They add some extra resistance and make the workouts a bit more challenging when you need something more advanced. I also got mine from Amazon/Walmart a while back. I prefer fabric over rubber because I like to wear workout shorts instead of workout leggings.
Pilates Ball - not a necessity, but useful with some pilates workouts and movements. I have seen sole videos using this, but am not advanced enough to try it on my own yet. Will use for sure once I'm more advanced.
3lb dumbbells - I thought these would be useful for the pilates workouts that had some upper body focus, and as someone who wants to develop a lean and toned upper body, they are perfect for low weight high rep, controlled movements. Again, not advanced enough to use as I want to master my form, but they're gonna come in handy for sure!
Foam Roller - so so good for stretching and muscle recovery on rest days. I love mine but want one that has the bump things on it to help my muscles more. I can imagine how good it'll feel on my legs during a recovery day when I begin wieght lifting again.
Massage Gun - my holy grail for the days I am sore and needing some recovery. my body feels like jelly after using this, and it's just so nice for the days my muscles feel extra tight and super sore.
🎀 Equipment I Want To Buy
Yoga Blocks - these will help me get deeper into the yoga poses once I get more advanced in my practice
Pilates Ring - this honestly looks so fun and challenging to use, I'd love to add it to my collection of useful workout equipment!
Jump Rope - I used to love this as a form of cardio and as long as I don't move into an upstairs apartment, I'm definitely buying one
Pilates Bar - still iffy on this one, it's supposed to mimic a reformer but I want to get better at mat pilates and see if I even end up ever needing or seriously wanting to buy it, its on my list tho
Ankle/Wrist weights - these are gonna be so useful for workouts where hand held dumbbells aren't useful. Want to buy some low weight ones just to help with resistance and extra strength during pilates workouts
Kettlebell weight - I think this would be useful for a workout at home type situation if and when I switch to not doing just pilates and yoga. I know these are useful in their own right, but not needed in my current fitness stage of life.
Core Sliders - these look fun and interesting. They're on my lost for sure, but not sure about the practicality of their use in my life just yet.
That's all that's currently on my at home workout equipment list! As someone who primarily works out at home, the things I currently own are most useful and most of what's on this list is for fun or extra challenge. Just not necessary yet.
hope you enjoyed this list! if you have any questions about my favorite youtuber workout instructors or favorite videos, please feel free to ask, I've tried so many and can give some guidance from my own experience and research.
til next time lovelies 🩷

walk with me for a sec: hajime iwaizumi, the yoga instructor.
your friend gives you a voucher for a month of free yoga classes at the gym they work at, saying you look like you need it. (rude, but true.)
you know the moment you step into the studio you won’t be redeeming the rest of your free classes. it’s crowded, much more crowded than you’d anticipated, and all the other patrons look like sports illustrated models and certified pilates princesses. it's intimidating.
regardless, you lay out your mat somewhere in the back and try to imitate some of the warmup stretches that a few of the others are doing. it feels good, and you don’t even notice that it’s time to start until you feel the energy shift in the room.
it’s like everyone’s received telepathic commands to fix their posture. you watch, confused, as a few people quickly redo their updos.
and then the yoga instructor walks in and you understand why.
hajime iwaizumi is sun-kissed and broad-shouldered, looking like sex on legs as he says good morning to the class. you watch as he briefly scans the room, and when his eyes pass and your heart nearly stops.
“i hope everyone’s doing well. good to see some new faces this morning.”
you feel your heart stutter back to life, too fast and too hard.
you listen with one ear as he guides the class through a few poses, learning the hard way why they say you should stretch daily instead of…well, never.
you’re aware of him making his way around the room, commending some and adjusting others, but you’re not expecting to hear his voice directly behind you as you move into downward dog.
you gasp softly when you feel his hands rest gently on your hips, fingers tugging slightly to fix your form. you barely manage to catch him praising you after, a soft “good” falling from his lips before he moves on, surveying everyone else as he says something about how long to hold the pose.
you can hardly pay attention to the rest of the class, skin burning beneath your leggings in the places his hands touched. as if that wasn’t bad enough, he stands by the door as everyone exits and tells you he hopes to see you in class again soon.
it would be a shame to waste the remaining classes on that voucher, right?

a beginners guide to pilates
pilates is a low-impact exercise method that focuses on strengthening the body, improving flexibility, and enhancing overall fitness. it's suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, making it an excellent choice for beginners who are looking to start a new exercise routine. in this guide, we'll cover the basics of pilates and provide tips for getting started.
what is pilates?
pilates was developed by joseph pilates in the early 20th century as a system of exercises designed to improve strength, flexibility, and body awareness. it incorporates a series of controlled movements that target the core muscles, as well as other muscle groups throughout the body. pilates emphasizes proper alignment, breathing, and concentration, making it a holistic approach to fitness.
benefits of pilates
strengthens core muscles: pilates focuses on strengthening the muscles of the core, including the abdominals, lower back, and pelvic floor, which can improve posture and stability.
improves flexibility: pilates exercises promote flexibility and range of motion in the muscles and joints, reducing the risk of injury and enhancing overall mobility.
enhances body awareness: pilates encourages mindful movement and body awareness, helping individuals develop a deeper connection between mind and body.
promotes relaxation: pilates incorporates breathing techniques and relaxation exercises, which can help reduce stress and promote a sense of calm and well-being.
increases muscular endurance: pilates exercises are performed in a slow and controlled manner, which helps build muscular endurance over time, allowing individuals to perform daily activities with greater ease.
getting started with pilates
find a qualified instructor: if you're new to pilates, consider taking a class with a certified pilates instructor who can guide you through the exercises and ensure proper form and technique.
start with the basics: begin with beginner-level pilates exercises that focus on building core strength, such as the hundred, pelvic tilts, and leg circles. gradually progress to more challenging exercises as you gain strength and confidence.
focus on proper alignment: pay attention to your alignment during pilates exercises, keeping your spine neutral and your shoulders relaxed. engage your core muscles to stabilize your body and prevent injury.
breathe deeply: practice diaphragmatic breathing during pilates exercises, inhaling deeply through your nose and exhaling fully through your mouth. coordinate your breath with your movements to promote relaxation and enhance concentration.
listen to your body: listen to your body and work at your own pace during pilates workouts. if an exercise feels too challenging or causes discomfort, modify it or take a break as needed.
be consistent: aim to practice pilates regularly to experience the full benefits of the method. start with two to three sessions per week and gradually increase the frequency and duration of your workouts as you progress.
remember that pilates is a journey, and progress takes time and dedication. be patient with yourself as you learn and grow in your practice, and enjoy the many benefits that pilates has to offer for your mind, body, and spirit.

Hey Roo do you feel like pilates played a big role in your journey? Good eating habits is a the most important thing (which I’m trying to have) but I also want to start with youtube pilates. Im a bit lazy though 😅
So eating is most important if you are trying to shed weight. Healthy food, not necessarily less. Good habits is what is the goal, not restriction per se.
Pilate helped a lot in other ways. It made my joints less achy, eased up my sciatic pains, and my back pain to the point I could be all around more active. And tbh its really relaxing to have that time to do the exercise and just be chill.
These are the workouts I follow and have worked most effectively for me
Everyone is different but I went through phases of transition. Small adjustments over time, not big changes at once.

Rise and Shine: Group Exercise vs. Group Training
Are you the kind of person who loves exercising with a group but needs clarification about whether you should go for group exercise or group training? Do you think group exercise and group training are the same? Whether you are new to group workouts or a seasoned gym-goer, knowing the difference between group exercise and group training is essential. This blog post will explain the differences and which is better for you.
What Is The Difference Between Group Exercise And Group Training?
Group Exercise
Group exercise is a type of workout that involves large groups of individuals exercising together in a class. These classes are led by a certified instructor who demonstrates proper techniques and provides guidance throughout the class. The group fitness classes may range from 30 minutes to an hour and include various activities like dance aerobics, yoga, cycling, and Pilates.
Group exercise primarily focuses on improving endurance, cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility. Group exercise classes are great for those who want to enjoy the camaraderie of working out with others, get motivated by the instructor and music, and have fun while working out.
Group Training
Group training, on the other hand, is a more intense workout that emphasizes functional movement patterns and strength training. Group training involves working in small groups of usually two to six individuals, though this number can vary. The purpose is to sculpt, tone, and improve strength, agility, and endurance. The classes usually take 45 minutes to an hour and involve exercises like weightlifting, TRX training, and kettlebell workouts.
Group training is more personalized than group exercise, as a professional personal trainer leads it. Group training is perfect for those who want to experience a highly efficient workout, get personalized attention, and benefit from a program that yields results.
Differences Between Group Exercise and Group Training
The main differences between group exercise and group training are the focus, individualization, expertise, and intensity. Group exercise classes are more about fun, community, and cardio. In contrast, group training is about working towards specific goals, pushing past plateaus, strength training, and circuit strength workouts.
Group training is more targeted and personalized, and the trainers monitor your progress and tweak the program to suit your goals. Group exercise usually focuses on the entire class, whereas group training explicitly targets an individual's needs.
Which Is Better For You?
The answer to this question depends on your goals, needs, and fitness level. If you are looking for a fantastic way to meet new friends, have fun, and get a great workout, then group exercise is perfect. Alternatively, if you have a specific goal in mind, like losing weight, toning your body or increasing your strength, then group training may be what you need.
Conclusion: Group Exercise vs. Group Training
In conclusion, the differences between group exercise and group training are significant, and you need to decide what is best for your fitness journey. Regardless of which one you choose, both have fantastic benefits.
Group exercise is great for building community, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness, while group training is perfect for strength, agility, and endurance. So, whether you decide on group exercise or group training, get out there, find a class that excites you, and get ready to transform your fitness routine!
Impulse Fitness And Wellness offers various group classes that you can attend to achieve your fitness goals. Visit our Coquitlam Gym today for more information.

My Education Part 4 In 2016 while I was working as an IT recruiter, I got certified as a fitness instructor in Ukraine, as I felt I needed more instruments to help my yoga clients I worked with. 2017 was by far the hardest year of my life. I knew I wanted to change my life and at first I didn’t have any clarity on how to make it happen. Old ways were not working for me anymore, new ways were unknown. In the beginning of 2018 I got a job offer from Saudi Arabia, and accepted it. It was my first full time position in the fitness industry. It was my first time in Saudi Arabia, I was scared, excited, and happy to embark on this new journey of mine. Since then my life, my career, and my education started shifting towards fitness. In 2018 I completed my nutritional certification, got my Diploma as an Advanced Sports and Exercise Nutritional Advisor. In 2019 I got certified by ACE which stands for American Counsel on Exercise as a personal trainer. For me it’s an honour to be certified as a personal trainer and be able to deliver high quality workouts to my clients to make your lives healthier and happier. I also got my certificate as a Mat Pilates Instructor, which in my opinion is a great tool to use while working with people. It helps to teach people the movement fundamentals both in terms of recovery and performance. During quarantine lock down I have completed Corrective Biomechanics Course to expand and widen my knowledge about the physiological anatomical aspect of the exercises, as my clients claim workouts with me are serving them better than some physiotherapy sessions at hospital. Also during quarantine I have developed and shot 2 extensive fitness courses - one is for beginners and one is to focus on the core and abs. These are 2 online courses are based on the years of experience working with people with the great selection of exercises, and if you remember - I’m a teacher by my first education, so these courses have extensive technique explanation and focus to bring you the best value. I’ll continue talking about my education next week. #onlinefitnesscoach #education #fitnessprofessional https://www.instagram.com/p/Coo-eOQLmmG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Despite its importance, working out can sometimes feel intimidating. But what if we told you that you could reap the health rewards of being physically active without even changing out of your pajamas? “Cozy cardio” is a trendy approach to movement that’s easy and approachable. Keep reading to learn the basics, plus see an expert-curated routine to help you get started! What is cozy cardio? In 2023, content creator Hope Zuckerbrow posted a viral TikTok video of her morning workout session. Against the backdrop of a dimly-lit living room, Zuckerbrow pours herself a tall glass of ice water, makes a protein coffee and lights scented candles (one of which is aptly named “cozy comfort”). She takes her daily supplements, then steps onto her walking pad wearing fuzzy socks while choosing a TV show to watch during her exercise session. “I want cozy cardio to be a movement for women to reclaim their relationships with exercise,” Zuckerbrow explained in another video. “Cozy looks different for everyone, but my version looks like ambiance lighting, the flicker of a candle, the taste of my favorite protein coffee or the comfort of the show I’m binging. I just applied that to my exercise.” @hope_zuckerbrow cozy cardio🫶🏻 #fyp #cardio #cozy #weightloss #walkingpad ♬ Blue Moon – Muspace Lofi The relaxed, inviting approach to exercise resonated with so many people that the TikTok creator’s cozy cardio trend was even featured on the Today show. Health benefits of cozy cardio In any environment and at any intensity level, cardiovascular exercise is crucial for good health and longevity. To summarize its effects briefly, regular aerobic activity protects your heart, plays a vital role in weight management and improves brain function and mental health. It encourages you to stay active A cozy cardio workout is meant to encourage you to be physically active in a way that feels satisfying, which makes it easier to maintain healthy habits. Many people have an all-or-nothing attitude toward exercise, believing they either have to commit fully to something they don’t enjoy or feel it’s not worth putting in any effort, explains Rachel Goldberg, LMFT, founder of Rachel Goldberg Therapy. “Cozy cardio is basically a way to say, ‘Hey, it’s okay to just move your body in a way that you don’t hate, and it’s actually good for you,’” she says. When you use language and supporting practices to create a more inviting experience, you’re much more likely to follow through with that experience, adds Kathrine Brown, founder and Certified Coach at Conscious Weight Loss Inc. It supports weight loss If weight loss is your goal, consistency is key. You lose weight when you’re in a calorie deficit, which means eating fewer calories than you burn. Cozy cardio can be an ideal way to increase your daily activity levels and burn more calories, explains Matt Dustin, Certified Precision Nutrition Coach and NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist at Garage Gym Reviews. “When paired with a proper nutrition plan, it’s an easy way to support weight loss while staying comfortable at home,” he says. However, Brown suggests dropping any expectation of weight loss based solely on the movement you choose for cozy cardio. This expectation may overshadow two key things that are beneficial for weight loss: connecting with your body and improving your digestion, she explains. Cozy cardio reduces stress By making exercise feel relaxing, cozy cardio can reduce stress levels, says Supatra Tovar, Clinical Psychologist, Registered Dietitian and Certified Pilates Instructor at ANEW. “High stress can increase cortisol, a hormone associated with weight gain, particularly in the abdominal area,” she explains. “Engaging in exercise that is enjoyable and soothing can help lower cortisol levels, creating a hormonal environment more conducive to weight loss.” How to add cozy cardio to your wellness routine The great thing about cozy cardio is that it’s simple and accessible for almost everyone, says Tovar. If you’re new to cardio, the key is to ease into it while tailoring the details to your personal preferences, she explains. Here’s how to get the full experience: Create your cozy space Start by choosing a quiet area in your home where you feel relaxed, says Tovar. Add elements like soft lighting or a scented candle. Then have your favorite playlist, TV show or podcast ready to accompany your workout. “The goal is to make the space inviting so that you look forward to exercising,” she says. Wear comfortable clothing Dress in loose, soft or stretchy clothing—whatever makes you feel relaxed and confident, advises Tovar. Choose your exercise Aim for 10 to15 minutes of movement initially, suggests Tovar. Starting with shorter sessions ensures you don’t feel overwhelmed and allows you to build confidence and stamina over time. While walking on a treadmill is a great starting point since it’s accessible and everyone knows how to do it, you can do any activity you enjoy, says Goldberg. “Using light equipment that doesn’t feel intimidating, such as a stepper or light dumbbells while watching TV or listening to an audiobook, can also be good ideas,” she says. “Dancing is also a great option for people who are inspired by music. Ultimately, making exercise feel cozy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s about finding a way to be active that doesn’t feel dreadful and allowing yourself to feel good about that movement.” A stationary bike, rower or walking pad are excellent options that allow you to enjoy a gentle cardio workout, adds Dustin, and you can adjust the resistance settings to customize the intensity of your workout. If you don’t have any equipment, you can also do low-impact bodyweight workouts like yoga or Pilates, he adds. This content is not a substitute for professional medical advice or diagnosis. Always consult your physician before pursuing any treatment plan. Source link
