Theodard had a feeling she would bring that up, so similar was this conversation to their many disagreements when he was but a fledgling swordsman. But years had passed, and he was no longer a boy with a sword in hand and nary a thought in his head. And he knew Thalia wouldn't remain a child forever, either.

"She's made her choice, and the scales have been weighed in her favor. You can't stop her, Seliene. You can only prepare her".

He knew there was only one way to give her the reassurance she needed. A compromise he was more than prepared to make. For her sake and his niece's.

"And it shall be under my guidance".

Green eyes widened in surprise, and Theodard knew he had her attention.

"My years of travels and in the battlefield have granted me with knowledge that will prove invaluable to her. I have gained allies and comrades who I know would be of great worth as teachers. She will be more than capable of protecting herself. I will personally see to it".

Theodard watched as Seliene seemed to parse his words. He could practically see the gears turning in her mind. He knew his sister. There were very few people she trusted when it came to her family, her daughters especially. And there were very few she trusted more than him.

The answer was clear with the way she shifted her stance, shoulders drawing back as she considered him carefully before she finally spoke:

"You will train her harder than anyone who's come before her. Five times harder. Ten times harder-"

With each word she took a step closer, until she closed the gap between them, looking up at Theodard with an expression of not just renewed resolve, but one of beseeching.

"Until she is better than even you".

Seliene has always trusted him, and Theodard has never once let his sister down. He had no intention of starting now.

"Agreed".

happy 6th anniversary to big buff and cheeto puff

my parents got a new puppy and i have been helping out a lot since i live nearby and my mom (who was the main person who wanted the puppy) is out of town working a rural locum (long story there)

so my dad (mr stresso depresso this time of year, every year) and my brother (just mr depresso this time of year—every year (yay SAD! we all have it! but somehow i’m the only one who takes vitamin D! because my family are big dummies forgetful and stubborn and bad at developing seasonal habits because we also all either have ADHD or autism) also frankly even without the SAD factor my brother was depressed)

so neither of them is quite up to saddling the work all alone and also my dad is probably getting sick

anyways. babies are a lot of work. i miss my couch and my cat (an adult! independent! pees in a box rather than outside every half hour) and my kitchen (which has my safe foods in it) and yeah my apartment is like. literally a two minute walk away

but uhhhhhhh. being out of routine SUCKS

like yeah. cuteness overload but there is clearly a reason i have always preferred to adopt adult dogs/ cats

so on those career assessment things i always score the highest on art which SUCKS because THOSE CAREERS ARE LARGELY NOT VIABLE FOR ME LOL. welll maybe graphic design or interior design or fashion design but, i would kinda like to do something that pays kinda well and is like practically important...? i want to do something that betters humanity more than decoratively. and these can be part of important efforts, sure, but.. it's just not what i'd like to invest my life in. i'm interested in them more as hobbies or beginner jobs.

my second highest thing is usually social, which is Um. recently off the table lmfao.

so my next two highest scores are investigate and realistic. investigate is a little higher but they're fairly close. the other two are not even options for me, even less so then the two above, so. looking at realistic or investigative jobs.

they're really broad categories. here's what i'm thinking.

rather than trying to directly help people with the job i do (like i was trying to do with social work), i could get a job i could handle well and use my excess time and money to help. so i was looking into jobs with high pay and well, i think you know where this is going.

i would kinda wanna avoid getting a doctorate so that leaves *drum rolls* engineering and computer science! i am really intimidated by that given that i kinda hate math and am not super sciency, but engineering in particular is such a wild field, if i could hack this stuff it might be not only financially but personally fulfilling. also scary that theyre so often dropped out of. I don't know what the work entails of either but i'm a liiiittle drawn to software engineering. because coding equals... i could develop games in my free time? yeah, that's my thought process. it's not a good one but it's mine. i gotta learn more about the fields before i make any concrete decision, so if you know anything about anything i mention here PLEASE feel free to share.

really (unfortunately) what i think i have to do is take a break from college after this semester to job shadow and volunteer or get an internship or something. i can't keep taking classes without knowing what i want to go into because like... interior design and engineering are Quite different fields lmfao 😭 not a lot of class overlap on that.

there's other sciency stuff too like uh, lab work and what not. i'm not particularly interested in it but i'm not NOT interested in it. i worry maybe i don't have the smarts or keen eye for detail needed but part of me is also like... i know this is such an unconventional choice for a flowery little arts&humanities lover girl like me that i want to prove i can do it. to... SOCIETY... and myself. but that's not really great reasoning on it's own ówò it is .. very tempting, though.

i'm really only willing to get a bachelor's atm so stuff's gonna get shaved off if i have to go for a master's or more. to make a living wage. that's the goal. but ideally more!! that would be cool.

but yeah... i genuinely feel like that sylvia plath poem. the fig one. i know i need to get rid of this feeling of finality because it's not like choosing my degree means i'm only confined to that, but... i guess i'm just scared that's what'll end up happening. that i won't find a place or have an opportunity to learn as much as i'd like to learn and do as much as i'd like to do. is any choice the right choice if that's the fear? well... there's definitely wrong choices at least, so i'll try not to make those 😭

thinking about my favourite thing about hajime no ippo is probably how it fleshes out the opponents and the journey they took to get here, their motivation to win

like i genuinely don’t think i’ve seen another sports anime do it better tbh

baby steps, my absolute favourite sports anime, doesn’t do this. ei-chan 100% finds a sweet and loveable community and tennis friends to play against but genuinely the closest it came to giving an opponent motivation was the opponent that was a clear shonen parody. and i loved it! every second about that match i adored! he’s late bc he got stuck in an accident, helped that person go to the hospital, possibly dying from some disease… and he turns up later in the match in a wheelchair to root for that opponent. it’s glorious.

over drive is interesting, and dedicated many episodes to character motivations of why they’re in the race. but i think this show suffered from generic characters, and the entire episode would be about their midlife crisis of how they got here. it’s not bad, and i did enjoy it, but i think it did slow the pace even if i constantly felt stressed watching.

hajime no ippo is not like that. sometimes the backstory is a line, sometimes it is part of the match, sometimes it is an episode preceding the match entirely and i like that variety!

like i love kuroko no basket, but honestly if you’re not the generation of miracles, then there’s not much to the characters. including the main team. like there’s quirky characters but i think that ultimately the school trapping will limit how much time you can explore rival teams beyond a good first impression. but the backstory of GOM compels me, so that’s still something even if it’s not much, it’s enough.

but. something about HNI, the boxers that stick around… the way the story follows them… it feels closer to an ensemble—and that, i really like.
