Online Friends [Kenma Kozume x f!reader]

Part 1 part 2

It was a normal day at Japan.

Kenma was walking with his friend; kuroo tetsurou to school, a stray cat meowed beside him on the top of the wall, as he furiously tap his PSP to defeat the opponent he was playing with.

They go with the username; [username], they're good at this game he was playing.

Which result him to release a soft groan in defeat, the screen shows 'GAME OVER!' Written on it.

Kuroo noticed the distress expression of his friend, and looked over the screen,

"Ahh, they are hard to beat huh? How many times is it? Five?" The captain questioned.

"No." The pudding head setter simply answered, "Three?" As he kept thinking how many times his friend was defeated by this person, "Nine."

"He's really hard to beat huh?" He asked.

Kenma only nooded at his friend, and continues to walk to school, they eventually arrived, and continues the day as usual.

Time past by, kenma was now sitting at his bed on his phone, playing against [username] again. But this time, he won.

He smiled to himself, as he teased [username] at his victory. The other person only laugh at the chat box, and said they'll only want him to win, cause he's trying so hard. Kenma frowned and asked for another round.

[Name] was sitting lazily on her bed, with a phone on her hand, her friend; applepi was getting harder and harder to beat in the past few nights.

She hate to admit it but, they are something.

It started when her character and their character are on a same quest, and [Name] defeating more enemies than applepi, they asked for 1v1 to prove that [name] only got more enemies defeated because she always got the last hit.

[Name] only laugh at their comment, and accept the challenge.

Kenma was defeated once again, he frown at sight, and told them to do a quest with him, an unnoticeable smile was place at his features, when they agreed.

It's like their daily routine;

Play a few rounds

Applepi has practice

Play at breaks

Applepi has practice

Play a few rounds

Do homework

And repeat

It always stay the same.

Until [username] didn't show up.

Kenma frowned as he and his friend kuroo walked to school, he search for his online friend.

Kuroo watch his friend, desperately searching for something in his game.

"What's up?" He asked

"They're not here.." the puddling head boy replied sadly, questions are flooding his mind. Are they okay? Maybe they just sleeping? Mabye something's up with their school work? Are they grounded? Mabye..

But at the back of his mind that he dosen't want to listen to..

"Are you sure?"

"This is our new manager; [Last name] [Name]." The couch announce.

Everyone study her features, even the pudding head, but he couldn't careless.

He was busy worried about [usernane] to even care about the new stranger in the gym, but he knew this girl.

She sit behind him, at [least fav. Subject] but she isn't paying attention.

"Hello, I'm [Last name] [name], I hope I can be a good manager" the [hair color]nette smiled nervously. They welcomed her to the team, giving her soft head pats as a welcome greet.

As time went on, kuroo notice a certain pudding head is more gloomy then he is before, "kenma! Come over here for a sec!" He called, the pudding head obeyed and stood in front of the Captain.

"What do you want kuroo?" He asked, annoyed.

"Why don't you can take a break? You look more tired than usual." Kuroo suggested, worried for his friend.

"Fine." The pudding head made his way to the corner of the gym and sat there, he began to notice he was thirsty, kenma looked for a nearby water but found nothing.

A water bottle was found in a hand in front of him, held by [Last name] "here, I bet you're thirsty." She smiled, kenma mumbled a small thanks while taking it from her hand and took a sip.

Her gentle expression turned into a mixed of horrified and realization, "oh gosh! I forgot to tell my friend!" She turned and rush to her where her phone is, leaving kenma a little confused.

[Name] grabed her phone and texted her friend applepi.

Kenma's phone let out a sound of a ding, he grabed it and when he saw what the ding was for his eyes lit up.

[Username]: Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I got things to take care of.

Kenma didn't waste time to reply to [Username], a small smile ghosted his cat-like features.

Applepi: no, its okay i also had a lot of things to take care of.

Rivals of Old - Part 2

In which Shimizu Kiyoko is from another world.

Note: mostly written parts (super long written parts)

Two days in Miyagi and several practice matches against two schools later, you found yourself drained and face down on a very fluffy pillow that smells like mint and spice.

It was so soft and comfy. You just wanted to lie there forever.

"Koneko-chan…" Kuroo drawled, "If you're going to fall asleep, please go to your room before you pass out on my bed using my pillow"

You can tell that he wasn’t even looking at you so you just groaned and rolled away from said pillow but didn’t get too far when you bumped into something. Without looking, you knew who it was and thus didn’t bother moving away.

"Too tired to go to my room"

Kuroo let out a chuckle and placed his hand over your head, patting and scratching you lightly. It didn’t encourage you to go to your room and instead tempted you to dreamland even more.

"Are you purring?" an amused question came from somewhere nearby.

"She is" Kuroo responded for you, "Come on, get up. Did you already take a bath? Want me to carry you to your room?"

You couldn’t let him or anyone from the team do that. You were only their manager and all you had to do was take notes, record stats, and tend to the team. You didn’t have to play at an actual game. If you were tired, you could only imagine the state of the boys

You shook your head and pushed yourself up, gasping a little at how close Kuroo suddenly is. Brushing it off, you moved at a respectable distance and declared "I'm okay, I'm up, let's do this!"

"You don't have to review the stats with me" The captain chuckled, "You can go ahead and sleep. You've done enough bringing all your notes on all our matches"

"Nope, I'm the manager, I need to know where our team needs to improve so I can help" you said, determination clear in your voice.

Kuroo was about to say something when a very energetic voice cut him off.

"Dumbasses! We have a female manager so if they don't, it means we're better than them!" Tora exclaimed

You wanted to point out that Fukurōdani had two managers but realized that they are, in fact, considered a stronger team if rankings of the previous tournaments were your basis. You also had absolutely no idea what they were even talking about in the first place. This is why you chose not to butt in and just opted to turn to your captain who was currently shaking his head.

Meanwhile, Tora is still going on about… whatever he was being so passionate about at the moment.

"You better watch out, Karasuno!" he suddenly exclaimed.

"Shut up Yamamoto!" Kuroo bellowed, unable to concentrate on what he's looking at.

It was either due to Kuroo being distracted or whatever force on earth Tora was currently running on, he chose to ignore the captain's irritation. Instead, he turned to the team's setter who had been staring at him oddly.

"Hey, Kenma. What do you think?"

Kenma then glanced at you, at Kuroo then back at Tora, looking rather baffled by the question.

"What does it matter if they have a pretty female manager when we have one too?" he asked, "I don't care either way"

"Heeeeh?" You grinned widely, twisting your body to turn to your friend. "Did you just call me pretty, applepi?"

"This is why nobody wants to compliment you" Kuroo muttered, chuckling quietly to himself.

Without answering, Kenma ducked his head back down to look at the game he was playing. You did, however, notice the light blush of embarrassment on his face. You just giggled and was about to turn back to the captain when Kenma surprised you with an additional comment.

"But…" Kenma looked up again, staring at Tora, "I'm kinda looking forward to it, our match against Karasuno"

It wasn’t just Tora who was surprised by this but the two first years present as well. The three gaped at Kenma as if he had grown another head, Tora being the most exaggerated one.

"Kenma, who has no will to play, is looking forward to a match?" The second year wing spiker exclaimed and you could already feel Kuroo getting annoyed again.

"Yamamoto, you seem full of energy." The captain began. "You can practice double the amount if you'd like"

Knowing damn well how serious Kuroo was, Tora could only bow his head timidly and mutter an apology. With that settled, Kuroo turned back to you and caught you mid yawn.

Shaking his head once more, "Y/n, go sleep. It's okay. I'm just killing time until it's our turn to use the baths. Go ahead and sleep"

"Oh-" another yawn made you pause."-kaay. Night everyone! Sweet dreams"

The energy you had during the morning somehow disappeared by the time the team was about to meet with the Karasuno volleyball team. It took you less than two hours for your biological battery to be lessened by half and all you really did was unecessarily hype the team up in their up-coming face-off against their supposed rivals. You have absolutely no idea how the boys do it.

Minus Kenma, who is eternally tired, everyone's stamina is probably bottomless. Considering their daily schedule of a recieving and serve drills in the morning, team meetings during lunch and several practice matches against different teams for 3 consecutive days, you don't understand how Tora can still try to pick a fight with Hinata Shōyō and who appears to be his non-mohawked clone.

"Is there a problem?"

"Wanna fight, city boy?"

Shitty boy? That's a little uncalled for…

Thankfully, Yaku-san and someone from the other team was there to intervene before there was an actual fight. With just a few choice words, the two hot-headed boys were shut down and unable to say more.

Shaking your head, you tried to move past the two to enter the gym but nearly dropped all of the bags you were carrying when Tora dramatically gasped.

Tracing where the boy was looking, you ended up dropping your jaw instead. Just behind the bald Karasuno guy was the prettiest girl you've ever seen. Pretty wasn’t even a proper description.

She had glasses that framed her beautiful eyes perfectly, hair flowing from the soft breeze, and a beauty mark just under her mouth. She was ethereal. When she noticed the two of you looking, she gave a soft smile and a nod and all of a sudden, your face heated up and you didn’t know what to do.

Tora, the poor boy, had it worse. His heart practically leapt out of his chest and next thing you knew, he was running away. It would have been funny had the stunning girl not decided to walk towards you.

Unconsciously, you had moved closer to Kenma and reached for the sleeve of his jacket. Your eyes were looking everywhere except the girl and you hoped to all the deities in heaven that she will not speak to you because you know you will make a fool of yourself.

"Hi" the girl spoke and you felt Kenma's elbow nudge you lightly. "You must be Nekoma's manager. I'm Shimizu Kiyoko, Karasuno's manager"

Kenma nudged you again, this time with more force.

"L-l/n, Y/n" you stammered, subtly and slowly stepping behind your friend to gain a level of comfort back.

You didn't like situations like that, situations where you can feel people staring at you. Hinata Shōyo, the angry guy and the angel had their eyes on you, you can feel it.

"What's going on here?" Kuroo's voice was heaven-sent at that moment. You swore you could hear trumpets.

"Captain!" you ran towards him and ducked for cover. His frame was larger than Kenma and thus provided more coverage to hide you from scary feelings and scary boys.

"What happened?" Kuroo turned to Kenma for explanation.

Your friend only shrugged and offered a simple "She got shy".

Kuroo looked at the three Karasuno students, each had varying expressions. The bald one was giving him a look that was basically asking for a fight, the female one was blinking and glancing at the other manager in concern and the small orange haired one had just gone white from terror.

Ignoring all that, Kuroo turned back to you and bent lower just to ask if you were okay.

You have no idea what got into you. All of a sudden, you just felt really shy and scared to say anything. You were historically bad with social interactions when it involves people you don't know but you were getting better. Shimizu-san seemed like a nice person but she intimidated you.

"Come on, let's go inside" Your captain gave you his rare smiles that had you smiling back.

While he took one of the bags you were carrying and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, you opted to clutch on to his jacket.

Kuroo left you after you relaxed a little and went on to greet Karasuno's captain. You then began your duty as manager and started setting up the boys' things by the bench and reached for the empty bottles to fill them up with water.

You were only half finished when you saw Shimizu-san again. She was approaching you again and there was no escape, no Kenma and Kuroo whose backs you could use to hide.

Shimizu-san must have felt your discomfort because she just smiled and silently began to fill her team's water bottles in silence. Finally at ease, since she's not talking to you, you let your guard down. You reached for your bag again and opened a Tupperware filled with lemon you prepared earlier that day.

"Lemon?"

You flinched when Shimizu-san asked that question.

"Y-yeah" you nodded before ducking your head to hide from her gaze. "I-it helps hydrate the body with e-electrolytes"

"Hmm. I didn't know that"

You braved a glance at her and saw a thoughtful expression.

"S-since it also has vitamin C, it helps improve their immune system, especially for Kenma who doesn’t get much sleep" You were suddenly braver, probably because you were talking about the wellbeing of your boys. "Tora didn’t like drinking water much so adding flavor encourages him to hydrate. Sometimes I add mint or honey. Yaku-san likes the ones with berries so sometimes, I add them to his water"

"Our team has lots of energetic guys, maybe I should do that too" Shimizu-san mused. "Do you do this for every match?"

You grinned and nodded, "I do. But for tournaments, I also prepare some fruits and honeyed lemons for them to snack on."

"You seem very close to your team. You even know what they like in their drinks" she noted.

Suddenly, it was Shimizu-san who seemed uncertain.

Was it weird that you were close to your team? Most of the managers you knew were the same. In Fukurōdani, Bokuto-san and Yukie-san even exchange side dishes during lunch. At least that's what Akaashi told you.

"I-isn't that normal?" you asked, your head tilting a little.

Was it strange that you hung out with Kenma after school and practice to play video games? Or that you eat lunch with him, Tora, and Shō? Or that you even study together?

You sometimes even go to karaoke with the them and most of the Fukurōdani team. Of course most of the time, it was the same two people singing (Kuroo and Bokuto) but you hang out… a lot.

Or maybe she found it weird that you don't have friends other than the team?

No, no, you're overthinking again. She didn’t even say that.

"I didn’t mean anything by it" Shimizu-san must have felt your discomfort. "It's just…"

She let out a sigh and began to tell you how she did speak to her team but she often felt as if she was being too detached from them. It seems, Shimizu-san even found it difficult to cheer them on or encourage them.

Ah, so it's that…

"Oh, uhm… well… I'm not really sure I'm the right person to give advice about this" You admitted. As you helped her fill up her team's water bottles, even sharing some lemons with her, you told her about the "rough patch" you encountered when you had just become the team's manager.

You told her of how the current third years were friendly and helpful from the start, that Kai-san was like the father of the team who silently takes care of everyone. Meanwhile Kuroo-senpai and Yaku-san were the different kinds of moms, the one that nags you to eat vegetables and the one that scares you into eating vegetables.

Shimizu-san's chuckle made you grin proudly.

You then told her about how you thought you were hated, how it was a miracle called "Monster Hunter" that got you and Kenma on amiable terms, how it took time for you to understand that Shō was actually telling you jokes and was being friendly, how a nightmare it was trying Tora to even look at you longer than one second and not have him run away.

As you headed back to the gym, you were telling Shimizu-san about the time you had to corner Tora in the storage room and demand why he hates you.

The captain had encouraged you to befriend the boys in your year and you were determined to do so, thinking it was the duty of a manager.

"You… trapped him in the storage room?" Shimizu-san seemed at awe.

"He left me no choice! Tora can run really fast!"

You were aware how defensive you sounded just then.

"B-but I'm embarrassed this happened but I ended up crying" You sheepishly scratched your cheek.

You then told her how Tora was in such a shock and at a loss of what to do that he ended up just consoling you for the next 30 minutes. How that got him comfortable enough with you or how you became friends after, neither of you were sure. You just know that Tora began to actively try speaking with you and you would sometimes help with hypothetical questions regarding the subject of speaking to girls.

He would still sometimes get all flustered and forget you two were on speaking terms but other than those odd moments, Tora was pretty cool when he got used to your presence.

"As for the first years, I just bribed them with nikuman"

Shimizu-san mused that it's probably why their first years were closer to their captain because he's the one who treats them to nikuman after practice.

Once you entered the gym, the boys have all noticed the two managers chuckling and amiably speaking with each other. You even caught a rather proud expression on your captain's face.

You could almost hear him say, "Good job, Koneko-chan"

Other Notes: I probably should have mentioned it in the earlier chapters but "koneko" means kitten (子 ko=small, 猫 neko=cat). Nikuman is steam porked buns, if you were also wondering what that is (siopao in the Philippines😊).

Fic hcs: Neither Kuroo nor Y/n remembers when he began calling her Koneko-chan. It used to be strictly for private conversations but he started slipping at some point and now, the team is just used to it. Y/n referring to Kai and Yaku with a -san and Kuroo with a -senpai is intentional.

I... my first draft got deleted and that took forever to make so please like this for my sanity. I bookmarked 26 fics and read 1 book this month, so not as much as my previous two months but still! The majority is Harry Potter, but there's a spare Sherlock one and Friends one in there. “Hey are you okay? You look like you’re gonna pass out” Yachi observes as she gently takes the plate of watermelon out of your hands and into her own. Subconsciously, you find yourself nervously chewing your bottom lip as you let the sharp knife fall into the facilities sink, picking up the other tray that had already been prepared.

“I really don’t wanna see that guy..but I’ll try my best to act normal” An airy laugh passed through your lips as you spoke, eyes nervously flickering down to the metal plate in your grasp. The other managers had already headed out, thanking you for cutting the watermelon for them.

After the little interaction on Twitter, you hadn’t replied to the counterfeit blonde. It wasn’t like he pushed you to reply anyway; he hasn’t tried to contact you all day. You supposed it’s in character after Hinata described his personality during one of the many times he boasted about his new friend.

“You coming (y/n)-chan?” Yachi calls from the kitchen doors, using her body as leverage to prop the metal doors open. Her voice brings you out of whatever daydream you’ve found yourself in, sending a shock of surprise through your body. Somehow, your body seemingly moves on it’s own as you trail after the younger blonde, thoughts trailing back to the faux blonde. Why can’t you get him out of your head?

“Tanaka please eat slowly!”

“Hey! One piece at a time!”

“Hinata sit down!”

“Chew with your mouth closed boys”

Why are boys so gross? How did Kiyokyo do this on her own for a year? How have you even made it a year with this team? Where’s Daichi for crying out loud?!

An evil but familiar snicker comes from beside you and with one quick turn of the head you see who you expected to see. Tsukishima is standing there, laughing at the distraught look on your face as you watch the shit show in front of you. They’re like savage beasts! What’s going to happen when they hear about the barbecue?

“What are you laughing at four-eyes?” You sneer as your eyes narrow at the taller boy. He’s holding a half eaten watermelon and deriding at your predicament. Yamaguchi happily chomps away at the vibrant fruit, not bothering to stop the little feud going on in front of him. Luckily, Tsukishima seems to have standards when it comes to making fun of girls.

“(Y/n)-san!” A hand clamps down on your shoulder, a bright and girly voice ringing through your ears. Your head snaps away from the dinosaur lover to meet the wide eyes of one of the other managers. You only met briefly but you’re pretty sure her name is Yukie, at least that’s what she told you.

“Yes Yukie-san?” You ask the vibrant girl. She breaks out in an apologetic smile “Would you mind handing out the rest of your watermelon to Nekoma? We just ran out and the boys haven’t had any yet..”

You nod, waving at the now disappearing girl. She left as quick as she came.

As your eyes scan the greenery and land on a group of boys who seem to resemble cats, you realise that you haven’t seen the blonde boy you were worrying about earlier.

“Excuse me” you announce your presence as you walk over, making it clear that you were only there to give them the watermelon. A tall boy with spiked black hair notices you first, a large and unitentially creepy smile appears as he walks foreward to lift a slice of the watery fruit.

A few more boys litter in and out, taking slices as they please. You’re about to leave when the black haired boy, who had introduced himself as Nekoma’s captain Kuroo, pulled someone over by the back of their shirt.

“You need to eat fruit” Kuroo scolds as he grabs a console out of the boys hand. An amused smile tings at your lips as the boy seems to deflate as his device being confiscated.

“Here, take the last few pieces!” You hold the plate out, smiling at the boy even though he couldn’t see you. The boy seemed familiar to you, but you couldn’t shake it off. Maybe you had seen him before?

Said boy shakes himself out of his friends grasp and roughly turns around, eyes widening as he stares at you.

You wouldn’t made fun of his comical expression if you hadn’t had the same one plastered on your own face.

“Are you the girl from Twitter?” He easily composes himself, all the while you’re even struggling to comprehend the situation. How didn’t you recognise him? His hair stands out from a mile away!

“Um..yeah” Heat rushes to your face as Kenma’s gaze doesn’t falter. With a polite and rushed bow, you turn around and scurry away to your own school group, hand already itching to grab your phone.

Last life. Kenma was on his last life before heartbreak; he was hanging on a thread before plummeting into an abyss of depression. He’d fallen in love with a girl he met only last week, yet he’s so attached to everything about her. From the shine in her eyes that appeared whenever Kenma conversed with her to the music that rang all throughout the gym whenever she found something hilarious, it all enticed Kenma, and made him desire her presence more. All he wanted was to embrace her, a surefire way of regenerating his health bar.

But no, it was more than that - he didn’t want to be with (Y/N) just so he could win this game. Even if he lost all of his lives, even if he suffered heartbreak, Kenma wanted to see her, to hear her, to be with her. There was just something about her that drew him to her. It was a mystery, and he was determined to solve it. However, the only way to solve it was by, of course, getting closer to her.

And so we find Kenma sitting all alone in his classroom, stalling his time after school before practice. He was afraid to see Kuroo and (Y/N) share a kiss once more. He stared at the screen of his phone, reading on a website about a new event that his favorite video game was hosting. It was the video game that he played with (Y/N).

He heard the pitter-patter of footsteps outside the classroom and heavy breathing. The door to the classroom then opened so suddenly Kenma jumped in his seat. He looked over to see the girl of his dreams. He gulped as he looked back down at the article on his phone.

“Oh, Kenma, you’re here!” (Y/N) exclaimed.

“Practice has started already,” she began, as she walked closer to where he sat, “Aren’t you coming?”

(Y/N) hovered over Kenma as she peered at what he was reading on his phone. It looked familiar.

“Hey, what game is that? I’m pretty sure I play it,” she said, with a smile growing over her face.

Kenma’s breathing grew shallow as he figured out what to say, because he knew that the two had spent countless hours playing the game together, and neither of them knew that for the longest time. But then she inched closer, trying to make out the name of the game, written at the top of Kenma’s screen. Her face lit up as she recognized the title.

“Hey, I play that game! What’s your username?” She asked, with excitement in her voice. Kenma didn’t know, and she never told him, that there was a hidden tone of anxiety laced in her words.

10 DAMAGE TAKEN!

“Uh, it’s applepi,” he meekly replied. He looked down in embarrassment, as he did not want to make eye contact with eyes that shone so brightly they could blind his own. He then heard a reaction that he did not expect - silence. (Y/N) went silent as she sat down in her own seat. Kenma looked up as he saw her with a soft smile on her face. Love filled the colors of her eyes.

“So Kuroo was right,” she stated.

Kenma frowned. How could she bring her boyfriend into this conversation? He furrowed his brows at the mention of his name. Despite being best friends, Kuroo certainly did not feel like they were friends as it seemed like they were rivals for (Y/N)’s love.

“What are you talking about?” Kenma dejectedly asked.

“Right before you abruptly left last night, I was telling him about how I upgraded my player in that game you’re looking at,” she motions toward Kenma’s phone.

“But he told me that if I’m so excited about that game I should go talk to you about it,” (Y/N) continued, “and so I asked him what your username was. He told me it was what you just said, it was applepi.”

All Kenma could do was listen. So this was what was going on outside while he was changing in the club room last night. He felt so bad for misunderstanding the situation. So he let her continue on with her account of the story.

“So I went silent. I told him that that was the username of my best friend, and that dumb kid really went, ‘Well, he’s your best friend.’ And that’s when you walked out of the club room and I got all red in the face.” (Y/N) sighed and dropped her shoulders. She relaxed her whole body as she finished the rest of what she had to say.

“I got so red in the face because when you walked out and left, I just felt… so embarrassed… knowing that I had fallen in love with you, Kenma, my best friend. I’ve only ever had eyes for you. Or, well, for applepi.”

The two shared a laugh and then a comfortable silence ensued. Kenma gathered up all of the courage he had in his inventory.

“(Y/N), I…”

“I…”

“I’ve also…”

“I’ve also fallen in love with you. Ever since you walked through that door.”

(Y/N)’s eyes lit up as she felt like the happiest girl in the world. Tears welled up in her eyes as she said, “Kenma, you really don’t know how much your words mean to me. Everything you’ve ever said I’ve cherished.”

90 HEALTH RESTORED!

Kenma stood up from where he sat and (Y/N) did the same. He quickly wrapped his arms around her torso and shut his eyes. Seconds later, (Y/N) did the same. They once again stood in a comfortable silence, but this time with a warm embrace. After what seemed like forever and a minute, Kenma pulled away as he grabbed (Y/N)’s face and placed his lips upon hers. They shared a chaste kiss for a second until it was interrupted.

“Ah, awkward Kenma. You’ve done it; good job. Now we’ve gotta get back to practice, all of us.”

It was Kuroo who ruined the intimate moment. Kenma turned around to give Kuroo the most disgusted glare as the captain held his arms up in playful surrender. He walked away, calling out that he would let the rest of the team know that Kenma and (Y/N) would be a couple minutes late. A couple minutes late.

But no matter if Kenma and (Y/N) got reprimanded. They finally have each other - in game and in reality. Because, after all, the game of infatuation is a two-player game.

Could you do a Naruto fanfiction recommendation? I loved your Sakura one but I was curious if you would do one in general for the series?

1.) serendipity by stirringwinds. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Sasuke had never known Senju Hashirama in person, of course. But he had grown up hearing stories about the First Hokage at his mother’s knee—about the legend who had defeated the most powerful member of their own clan. Enough stories to recognise what he was seeing—and to know he was witnessing his teammate perform the impossible. Or, in the fight against Gaara during Suna’s attempted invasion of Konoha, the Ichibi’s attempt to kill Sakura awakens an unexpected power. It changes the destiny of Team Seven forever.

Yes, this is about Mokuton!Sakura but this is in Sasuke’s pov and, oh boy, is it so interesting in his point of view. There’s not only world building but nods to real life history that makes in the (casual) history nerd in me get really excited. So far we’ve only seen Uchiha clan politics that Sasuke remembers from when his family arrived but if this is ever continued the current politics is one of the main things I look forward too.

2.) These Moments We Take for Granted by Applepie. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Kakashi dies to Pain’s attack and wakes up in another world. It’s a world where Kakashi hadn’t failed Obito’s final wish and sacrificed himself for Rin’s sake instead. It’s a Konoha too similar, yet so different that Kakashi can’t bear to impose. So he doesn’t – not as ‘Kakashi’, at least.

I’m dying for the next chapter of this. The cliff hanger is partially why the other reason is the story is just that good.

3.) Yes, my weird depressed half-tree uncle by Aesoleucian. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sarada is such a lonely kid, and Sakura has such a dissociative disorder. Where are Sakura's parents? Where is the support? Being a single mom is hard and therefore I crafted this AU where Obito survives the war and retires to help restore his clan which he helped murder.

A good way to get me to love any fic: let characters who go through traumatic situations actually show they’re not okay afterwards.

4.) your skeleton will carry by theformerone. On ao3. Rated E. Summary: He doesn't want to have children for the clan that murdered his father, or for the village that let it happen.

Neji and Sasuke discover that they are more alike than they think.

I’m so glad the author tagged this Anti Sandaime. That tag is the reason why I found this beautiful fic.

5.) Just the Usual Habits by Applepie. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sakumo has no idea where all of these habits of Kakashi's are coming from. In which five-year-old Kakashi forgets the existence of his left eye, loses his ability to lie believably, and is a little too knowledgeable about the Birds and Bees. Still, no matter what oddities went on in Kakashi's head, one thing is certain – the boy will always love his father, through thick and thin.

6.) Get Shisui by DoodlesOfTheMind. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Get Shisui. It was a common refrain throughout the Uchiha compound, though its meaning had shifted a number of times over the years.

Both beautiful and heartbreaking.

7.) a beating heart of stone by FantasyDeath. On ao3. Rated Not Rated. Summary: During Iruka's first year teaching — on his own, because apparently there is a severe lack of teachers — he loses his curriculum, gets into a low-key fight with Shimura Danzo and accidentally creates an army. To be fair, none of this was planned.

8.) In Sound Judgement by NegativeAperture. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: The main question, she thinks, isn’t her chance at survival or whether she’ll stick to the plot. No, it’s whether she should change the inherently flawed system that has caused every single problem ever. Arguably, she’s in the best position to fix it. People are certainly more willing to listen to you when you threaten them with the giant fox demon in your gut. But what would the cost be? Her morals? Her humanity?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all. (In which a human rights lawyer is reincarnated into a world without morality, without logic, and most of all, without laws. Helping the world was easier when people weren’t ninjas.)

Even if self inserts or ocs are not your thing I still strongly suggest you read this.

9.) Mirage by xantissa. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Can be read as stand alone. Itachi's ANBU exam through Kakashi's eyes. Kakashi knew something wasn't right with the whole thing, he just couldn't put his finger on what exactly.

10.) Catch Me (If You Can) by BasicallyAnIdiot. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Five times the ANBU tried to catch Uzumaki Naruto (and that one time someone else did).

Why you should read this: “Knowing Naruto-kun,” Itachi interrupted from his locker as he checked his arm bracers, “If he had more than a hour, the traps were at least 2 layers deep.” He closed the locker door firmly, mask in hand, “But he can be caught.”

“Lies and hearsay.” Neko’s muffled offer came from the women’s shower area.

“Impossible. Never happened.”

A delicate brow arched, and Itachi continued. “There is one person in the village who can successfully catch Uzumaki Naruto whenever he feels inclined to.”

Inu sat up like a shot, unheeding the bag of ice dropping to his lap with a thud.

“Who? Is it the Commander? Hokage-sama?”

Shisui snorted, and transitioned smoothly to a new pose, “He means the only chunin in the history of chunin to turn down a full position in ANBU corps, complete with no probation and instant pay raise.”

Inu was silent for a moment. Then he declared, “I will find this chunin and make him my teacher.”

11.) Fish Stew by Masu_Trout. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: There was a bowl of stew in Kisame's lap, a cup of tea on the ground next to him, and a small blank-eyed teenager staring at him from over the rim of his own teacup.

Kisame's new partner is one of the strangest people he's ever met, and that's coming from a man with gills on his face.

When the mission goes to pot, Sakura and Tenten find themselves far away from home and with only each other to rely on. As it turns out being cannon fodder is the least of their worries.

Welcome Home (Part 2)(40s!Captain America x Reader)

Prompt: “Can you do Imagine 3? I’m so excited!” ~ Requested by @littlenerdgirl16

3. Imagine Captain America coming home from a mission to find you and your newborn.

A/N: This imagine was inspired by a picture that I found on Pinterest. Hope you like. :) Here’s Part 2 Kiddies!

Previously:

You pulled away as you and Bucky headed back to his car. “That’s not the point Bucky.” He opened the door for you as you sat down into the passenger seat. Climbing into the driver’s seat he asked, “Then what is it?”

You looked at him with bloodshot eyes. “I’m pregnant.”

You looked at Bucky’s face over and over, unable to read his expression. “Oh. Well, congratulations...But does Steve know?” You shook your head as tears began to roll down your cheek. “No, he doesn’t. I was so focused on him leaving that I forgot.” You looked out the window, attempting to hide your tears.

Bucky sighed. “How long’s it been?” He held out his handkerchief for you. You smiled and grabbed it. “Only a month. When I found out, I was so excited that he and I were going to be parents, but he swayed my thoughts when he told me about leaving.”

You resumed looking out the window, searching for an answer. Bucky placed a hand on your shoulder. “Hey, you’re not alone, okay? I’m here for you.” You smiled at him. He smiled back as his blue eyes twinkled. “I could never let down a Rogers.” You giggled at swatted at him. He chuckled back. “Thanks Bucky, you are such a great friend.”

He turned to the steering wheel and started up the engine of the car. “Let’s get you home. It’s been a long morning.”

8 months later

You had been receiving letters from Steve every month, knowing that he was trying his hardest to keep in touch. He always ended his letter the same way:

I love you, darling. I’ll be home soon.

Love your Soldier, Steve.

What did he mean by soon? He has been saying soon for 9 months now. All you wanted was your husband in your arms, knowing you and he would be safe.

You were finishing reading a letter from Steve, when you felt a painful contraction. You winced at the pain. Placing a hand over your enlarged belly, you began rubbing circles. Another contraction came, only it was worse. It could only mean one thing: the baby was on its way. “JAMES!” You cried out.

You heard running coming down from the hallway. “What? What is it?” He looked frantically at your face with a worried expression. You clutched your stomach and leaned forward. “The baby’s coming.”

5 hours later, you were sitting in a small hospital room, clutching your baby girl in your arms. Bucky was fast asleep in a metal chair across the room. You smiled down at Daisy Rogers, 6 lbs 4 oz. You were so happy that she was healthy and happy, let alone she looked like her daddy. Her small eyelids were closed and her small hand was wrapped around your pointer finger.

Deep down inside, you wished Steve was here to witness the birth of your child. But you knew he was protecting the world and you. Daisy’s soft coo erupted your thoughts, as you placed your thumb on her soft cheek. She was fast asleep and peaceful in her blanket. She was perfect and everything you ever wanted.

Bucky, too, had stirred and walked over to your bedside. “How are my 2 Rogers girls doing?” You giggled. “WE are doing great.” You sighed. “I just wish Steve was here with me.”

As if the Heavens heard you, there was a knock on your hospital room door. You looked up and there you saw your husband standing in the doorway with tears in his eyes. He was in his uniform and had happiness radiating off of him.

He walked slowly over to you, looking at the mysterious blanket in your arms. You smiled widely and began to sob. “Welcome Home, daddy.” You shifted Daisy so she was facing Steve. Steve looked at his daughter in awe and picked her up. “This, this is my baby?” You nodded and cried. “Hey, babygirl. I’m your daddy.” He started to sway back and forth, rocking the baby back to sleep.

You chuckled and wiped the tears from your face. He placed a kiss on Daisy’s cheek before handing her to Bucky, so he could embrace you. He rushed over to you and wrapped you tightly in his arms. “I’ve missed you so much darlin’.” You breathed in his scent and smiled, feeling the familiar warmth of his body. “I’ve missed you too, Steve.” He released the hug and clutched your face. “I am never leaving you again.” He pressed a kiss to your lips, which this time turned to passion.

Bucky cleared his throat. “I think this one is getting a little fussy.” You and Steve giggled. Steve turned to you. “What’s her name?” You smiled widely. “Daisy. Daisy Rogers.” He pressed a quick kiss on your lips before taking his baby back.

Your husband was home and you had a beautiful baby girl...what more could you ask for? :)

Pairing: Sam x Reader

Warnings: None, I don’t think.

Summary: Based off of 5x03 “Free to be You and Me” when Sam takes a break from hunting and begins to try to have a normal life as a bartender.

A/N: I got the inspiration for this fic during my rewatch and realized how much I hated how pushy Lindsay (the girl in the episode) was, so I thought I would change that... Garber, Oklahoma

Ten years you worked as a waitress at the local bar in town.

Ten years you spent serving googley-eyed men staring at you like they were starving and you were their last meal. You had gotten used to the stares. It wasn’t as if you were unnaturally beautiful or anything; in fact, you found yourself quite ordinary looking.

The women you worked with always told you that it was because you were a waitress. It happened to all of you. So you just went with it, and the tips always showed.

After waitressing for so long, you began to get into this mindset that all men were like the ones that came through your little town. You began to resent them and although your dating life wasn’t exactly something to brag about in the first place, you had stopped dating altogether.

It was quite the shock when you came across a man that had no interest in hitting on you.

He went by Keith, although you could tell that probably wasn’t his real name when you would call out to him and it would take him a minute to respond. He got a job on the spot, as the owner of the bar was a woman who was incredibly vocal about how beautiful she thought he was. His hair was long and brown and no matter what kind of shirt he would wear, his muscles would make the material stretch across the defined muscles covering his body.

But it wasn’t just his looks that drew you to him. No, it was the cloud of mystery that surrounded him.

He rarely talked to you or any of your co-workers. When he did, he spoke as if he was well educated. You even saw him finish the New York Times Saturday crossword puzzle in record time during one of his breaks. He did all of his work thoroughly and while most bartenders would have to train for a few days before being sent on their own to do their job, he had only one hour of training before he was ready to go.

And the best part was, he never looked at you like you were a snack to eat. When he looked at you, he looked you in the eyes. He was sincere and respectful - something that you had a hard time believing that any man was capable of being.

So when you and Keith ended up closing up the bar alone one night, you decided to try to get to know the guy once and for all.

“Hey Keith…” you started as you were wiping down one of the tables.

He looked up at you with those beautiful hazel eyes and cocked his head. “What’s up, Y/N?”

“Look, you’ve been here for almost two weeks now? And I know absolutely nothing about you other than your first name…” You said. Studying his reaction, you trailed off and waited for what he had to say.

“I… I don’t really like to talk about my… past.”

You let silence fill the air and just kept cleaning. “Well, that’s okay, I won’t pry… why don’t you just tell me a little bit about the things you like?”

“The things I like?”

“Yeah… like your hobbies and stuff. Like for me, I like to paint. In the summer when the pool is open, I love to swim. I play the guitar from time to time, and my guilty pleasure, which I don’t admit to a lot so don’t tell anyone, I am a sucker for reality television.”

Keith threw his head down and laughed at your confession. You couldn’t help but smile - this was quite possibly the first time you had ever seen him smile.

“Okay… I like to read. I’ll read anything really…” He began but started to trail off. You could tell he was having a hard time having the conversation with you.

“What kind of reading do you do?” You asked politely, trying to keep the conversation light.

“Usually fiction, but I do love non-fiction. I am such a sucker for learning about history.”

“Is that what you studied in college?”

He looked at you with furrowed eyebrows. “How do you know that I went to college?”

You shrugged and joined him behind the bar, grabbing a rag to help dry and put away the glasses. “Just a guess. After working here for so long and being an observant person, I guess I’ve just picked up on things…”

You could feel his eyes on you but didn’t want to look over and see what kind of expression was on his face. “I went to Stanford and studied law… Did you go to college?”

“Ah, well that explains the intelligence,” You said with a chuckle. “I didn’t go to college. The plan was to take a year off of school and work so I could save up money, but that didn’t exactly work out. So here I am, 10 years later.”

Keith continued to clean as you talked, making you add “good listener” and “easy to talk to” to your never-ending list of good qualities about him.

“What did you want to study in college?”

This time, you were the one hesitating answering questions. “Erm… law enforcement. FBI, profiler stuff, more specifically...”

He smiled at you and nodded. “That’s really great, Y/N.”

“I just… want to make a difference in the world. I want to help and save people while also giving the bad guys what they deserve.”

You watched as Keith’s adam’s apple bobbed as he took a thick gulp. “Yeah, that’s one of the reasons I wanted to get into law, too.”

Smiling at him, you chose not to push any further. Once you finished breaking down the bar, Keith walked you out to your car. But right as you were about to part ways, you called out to him.

“There’s just one more thing I think I’d like to know about you tonight.”

Keith shot you that charming smile of his. “And what’s that?”

“What’s your real name?”

His face went white when you asked the question. “Wha… What do you mean?”

“Every time I call you Keith, it takes a second for you to respond to me… plus, I just don’t really feel like you look like a Keith,” You chuckled.

He stared at his feet, fiddling with his hands in his pockets. “I, uh…”

You waited for him to answer but all he did was scratch the back of his head.

“Oh, c’mon… You know what? If you tell me your real name, I’ll stop asking so many questions. I’ll let you keep being mysterious and kept to yourself. I won’t tell anyone we work with, either.”

Keith’s eyes didn’t leave yours as you talked. He looked as if he was contemplating the deal.

“Sam… my name is Sam.”

You felt your heart skip a beat when you heard his real name. It suited him. He definitely looked like a Sam.

“It’s been great talking to you tonight, Sam. I hope you plan on sticking around our little old town for a while longer… you’ve been a great addition to our staff here,” You smiled as you stuck your hand out to shake his.

He gently shook your hand then you walked away. He stood there, watching you as you walked over to your car to unlock the door.

“Y/N!” He called out to you, taking long strides over to your car. “What if… what if I don’t want to stop getting to know you?”

You breathed a sigh of relief. Standing up on your tiptoes, you reached up and pressed a quick peck on his cheek before opening your car door.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Sam.”

Driving away, you looked in your rearview mirror to see Sam still standing there with a grin on his face. You let your hair down and pressed a little harder down on the gas pedal, speeding down the open highway.

For the first time in 10 years, you had finally felt like you had met someone who was going to be different than anyone else you’d ever met before.
