The Trouble With Inflation

this is in Aotearoa btw.

i found a house for sale on trade me. it includes a history of its sales.

in 2004 it sold for $50,000. currently, it costs $350,000.

in 2004 the minimum wage was $9 per hour, which today is $13.

the current minimum wage is a few cents over $23.

in the last 20 years, the minimum wage has increased by 1.8x~.

the cost of the house?

it increased by SEVEN TIMES.

the house is 5x more inflated than the minimum wage. the government is a few days away from officially increasing the minimum wage to $23, but it is still not enough.

if the minimum wage inflated proportionately, the minimum wage would be $91 per hour.

we need to eat the rich.

My mom was 50 hours short this previous school year and therefor will not be granted her human right of health care for her broken ankle, and said ankle means she cannot continue her work there as a para 2. No income, no savings, no insurance.

Not sure what we're going to do but my resolve to blow up banks has never been stronger. Capitalism is a fucking rot. Capitalism is violence. How long will we endure this violence before we fight back?

I have found the best ally

Straight and cis people will say that they are allies, but you will NEVER measure up to my dentist.

Me: "Hey, is it ok if I can change my name on my info from [DEADNAME] to Aspen?"

Random woman that I wasn't even talking to in the chair next to me: "Honey, if that's the name you had at birth, [DEADNAME] is your only name."

My dentist, very slowly turning her rolley chair towards the woman: "Shush."

The issue with arguments against violent revolution is I have two major questions. From a leftist perspective.

1. How would a leftist group ever make change such as the removal of capitalism when institutions are in place to prevent that from happening? Even if 90% of a population agreed with removing it, it still wouldn’t change. Institutions are directly created to uphold the interest of the bourgeois class. If you think any democratic institution in a liberal democracy is created to hear the will of the people, im sorry to inform you that it isnt. These institutions are around to prevent change and specifically leftist change. Look around and see the ways that so called democratic parties crush opposition and protests. With the UK arresting climate change protesters and pro-Palestine protesters. America firing tear gas at peacefully protests in 2020. These institutions do not allow reform, they crush it. These parties don’t listen to the population, not even to their voter base. Look at the democrats in America, they continue to support a genocide despite 80% of their voters disagreeing. They fund fossil fuels despite their voters disagreeing.

I genuinely think climate change is the best example of governments not being made to speak for the people. Climate change is an existential threat to humanity. Millions will die, millions more displaced. We know the cause, we know the solution. Yet governments do nothing, they set up endless talks which do nothing and deliberately come to no major conclusion. THE MOST RECENT TALK BEING HELD IN A COUNTY WHICH PRODUCES HUGE AMOUNTS OF FOSSIL FUELS. Nothing is happening, while scientists continue to scream about how close we are. We are already too late to prevent climate change we can only now diminish its impact. Yet still our leaders sleep. People stick themselves to the group in protest and what does our government do? Arrest them. This is not democracy, this is picking which rich man gets to lie to us for 4 years.

2. Yes sadly a revolution is a violent affair, war is bad in most cases. But something that is more violent is capitalism itself. Thousands starve everyday when we have available food, thousands die of preventable diseases because they can’t afford medicine, thousands freeze to death because they have no home. Thousands die in the Congo because of corporate interests in lithium mines. Thousands die from illnesses caused by pollution. Millions will die if we do nothing about climate change. Capitalism is violence. Its war waged against the working class from the upper class. And thats not even mentioning police brutality!

Yes I would love if we could all hold hands and sing together to fix the world but sadly thats not how this works. I would prefer if a government willingly stepped down when the public asked it to, but they don’t. And in the mean time millions die each day of preventable issues directly caused by capitalism.

I in no way think violence is something to be glorified, there will be no “glorious revolution”. If a revolution happens it will be a war like any other, but the outcome instead of people dying for one state to get more land it would be a more equal world. I would die for that. For the chance for people not to live in poverty, for the chance of a world free from oppression of a kinds and for a world where we don’t face a climate disaster.

A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.

Yes. Full stop. Ive spent my entire life watching school shootings happen, seen my country blow billions of dollars on unnecessary wars, and stood in the middle of peaceful protests that get mocked and ignored. I did everything right, and learned that whats "right" simply makes you easier to ignore by the people who hold power.

I grew up in the sweet and docile "Babysitters Club" era, and have watched the next generations cut their teeth on "Hunger Games" and all kinds of dystopian lit. What did you all think was going to happen, when you kept tightening the noose on kids who were reading about revolution between active shooter drills?

I dont like murder, nor do I think most people do. But my god, you cant desensitize a nation full of people and still expect them to mourn their oppressors.
