More groups including the Liberal Party of Canada have chosen not to participate in events organized by Capital Pride in Ottawa this year in response to a pro-Palestinian statement issued by the organization earlier this month. On Aug. 6, Capital Pride put out a letter stating it was "concerned by the rising tide of antisemitism and Islamophobia" in Canada. Organizers condemned both the terrorist act committed on Oct. 7 and the "endless and brutal campaign in Gaza," which it said is causing the deaths of "innocent Palestinians — many of whom have friends, families and loved ones in our communities." Capital Pride also issued four commitments: integrating the Palestinian BDS National Committee's boycott list, hosting a "Queer Arab Showcase" during the festival, noting the "ongoing genocide" in certain speeches and calling for a permanent ceasefire.

Last Tuesday, Capital Pride issued four "commitments," pledging to recognize the "ongoing genocide" in Gaza in opening remarks, integrate a boycott list into its sponsorship reviews, host a "queer Arab showcase" and call for a ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages and increased humanitarian aid.
[...]
Haley Robinson, Capital Pride's grand marshal, also weighed in while attending CANFAR's brunch.
"I don't think the statement was meant for anybody to feel unwelcome," Robinson said, adding that it's necessary that Pride remains open to polarizing conversations — including ones about global conflicts.
"People have to remember that Pride isn't just about a parade and celebration," they said. "It's always been advocacy. It's always been a fight … so I think it's really important to continue to show your support for Palestinians and for other folks who are marginalized."

Since it's Pride month in the United States and my town (which is already in the 100s Fahrenheit) does Pride stuff like the parade in Sept I think it is, but the city 30 min away does events in June, when does your area do Pride events or do they not do them? Have you ever been to a Pride event, how did you like it if yes? Do you want to go to a Pride event? Do you plan to go to one? What's stopping you from going?
My spouse and I have been to one parade and we loved it but haven't been able to make it again. We are really hoping to make it this year but will have to see how hot it's going to be.
*Asks are for fun no pressure.
Hi Lovely!!!
Happy Pride to you as well!! It's gonna be hot soon so I'm just enjoyed the last weekend forecasted for the next two weeks to be below 22˚C. It's supposed to get up to 35˚C this week, UGH.
So yes, it's also Pride month in Canada, and a LOT of cities also do their Pride events in June. Our city "decorates" The Village district, and all the business change their signage, which I think is really nice :) BUT!! Our Pride celebrations are ACTUALLY in August, called "Capital Pride", and it's usually the WEEK OF MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! It's so exciting!!! I always joke that they put on a WHOLE parade JUST for my birthday! They do the Parade at the end of Pride Week (yes, they do a whole week of events!!) and one year the Parade day fell on my birthday on the 27th, and it was so magical!!!
I've been to I think 4 or five Capital Prides now? It's hosted in The Village and on the weekend they close off the main street downtown and have concerts, shops, and just lots of fun things! I usually go alone since I don't really know anyone here (or I haven't outed myself, anyway), and I wear my ace flags and I get lot of compliments on them! Our Pride Community seems to be very Ace-Friendly, AND I've seen quite a few Aro flags as well!! My friends came down one year to go to the Parade and that was SUCH a special one for me! That was before the Pandemic. Last year was the first Capital Pride they had after CoVid, so it was exciting.
Here's a pic of me from last year's Capital Pride :)

Sadly Pride ends a couple days before my birthday this year, but I'll be there for the Parade again, as long as it's not raining LOL.
And August is insanely hot here, so looking forward to baking in the sun again LOL.
Thanks for this one, it made me happy :D

Ottawa friends - as you may know our Pride parade is being heavily attacked for taking a principled stand on Palestine. Through deliberately misrepresenting the statement (shown below) on Palestinian solidarity, the right wing mayor has led a charge that has stripped them of all corporate or government sponsors.
Sadly, our school board was pushed to pull out by extremist trustees. This is very personal to me as I know what it's like going to school without feeling support, and I truly believe that the kids getting a chance to participate should take precedence over petty politics.
If you are from the area please consider signing this letter asking them to reverse their decision.
first link is to add your voice, second is the original statement.

Photographs from Capital Pride 2023
by Johnny Martyr I’m Johnny Martyr. My pronouns are he/him/his. Along with some other LGTBQIA2S+ allies, we had a fantastic time photographing the 2023 Capital Pride Parade in Washington D.C. last week. Just like Pride is a celebration of diversity, Stephanie and Ben are bringing some digital color to my normally all b&w film blog. by Ben My buddy Ben is an official concert photographer for…

I have found the best ally
Straight and cis people will say that they are allies, but you will NEVER measure up to my dentist.
Me: "Hey, is it ok if I can change my name on my info from [DEADNAME] to Aspen?"
Random woman that I wasn't even talking to in the chair next to me: "Honey, if that's the name you had at birth, [DEADNAME] is your only name."
My dentist, very slowly turning her rolley chair towards the woman: "Shush."
Random woman: "Excuse me?"
Destist: *closes privacy curtain while staring bullets at the lady*
Me: *pissing myself laughing*
My dentist while changing my name in my info (reminder that English is not her first language, she immigrated from Russia): "There, Sai, you have pretty boy teeth. Smile and make all girls swoon."
Me not having the heart to tell her I'm not transmasc but I'm Agender, and still pissing myself laughing: "Thank you [DENTIST NAME]."
Edit: Ok, this has gotten alot of attention, but right now my other posts is what really needs attention. I have a few fundraisers for people trying to evacuate Palestine and Gaza, but also a diabetic who needs her insulin shot. Please please please, go to my page and at the very least repost those posts, have the day you deserve and free Palestine🇵🇸

very funny (irritating) to me that everyone whined and yelled about stupid rainbow capitalism and how performative wokeness/allyship is a net bad we should all refuse to support and now like.
tumblr is doing nothing for pride and target isn't selling much (if any) of their pride collection offline except at certain stores (in democratic areas, basically) and build a bear has a much tinier collection than normal and all the actual pride stuff is on their "adult" website (not sure if it's in stores, but pride = adult is a hell of a message)
there are genuinely good criticisms for performative allyship in all its applications. it shouldn't be the only thing we expect from people and companies. but if all the shit I see being called performative stopped tomorrow then in terms of the LGBTQ+ community especially we just. wouldn't talk about queerness or queer issues or celebrate pride or do anything.
open your fucking eyes. we are very close politically to having gay marriage rolled back. now companies are basically being let off the hook to even make a miniscule effort (which matters to the people who don't have access to any other kind of support in their communities! which normalizes the community in public spaces!) because the only reaction they have gotten over the last few years are negative ones from BOTH sides.
we are so entrenched in discourse at all times for the sake of our OWN performance of who is the wokest and who is REALLY an ally or a good community member that we have basically handed over all the work of activists of the last several decades to the other side because we'd rather scream at each other over fucking chicken restaurants and shit than the real life backsliding that's happening.
and this goes for other shit too. feminism, poc rights, all of it.
also. trans rights aren't discourse and aren't just culture war arguments. in case any terfs think they can spin this to be antitrans.
