ALRIGHT alright. so previously I did an illustration that explained the premise of all this, that it's inspired by the narrative choices that Bresson made in his film Lancelot du Lac etc

to dive in more into it (because this is something like derivative fiction. I'm putting concepts into a blender and seeing what comes out of it): the setting is haunted by the previously existing narratives that started cannibalizing each other until it regurgitates itself into the more well known narrative beats, and something else about the invasive rot of christianity and empire mythmaking into settings. it's an intertextual haunting, if you will! and this scene takes place during the grail quest narrative, but the temptation of Perceval plays out differently.

in both Chretien (and Wolfram's) Perceval narratives, what 'wakes' Perceval up (in more ways than one. desire and self actualization in one go!) is seeing knights, something his mother tried hard to keep him from. so instead of the temptation of lust & etc in the Morte narrative taking the form of a lady, it takes the form of a knight. the temptation to renounce one's faith to serve something else remains.

so Perceval still stabs himself, but instead of continuing on the grail quest in the shadow of Galahad, he becomes the narrative's Fisher King because his earlier state of being as a the grail quest hero is creeping back into his marrow. it was waiting for an opening, and stabbing yourself in the thigh is one hell of a parallel!!!

that wound isn't going to heal buddy, and the state of the setting will now be reflected on your body. sure hope that Arthur hasn't like. corrupted the justice of the land or anything. that sure would suck for your overall health.

all the red in this sequence is because in de Troyes' Perceval, Perceval takes the armor of the Red Knight and becomes known as the Knight in Red.

playing dredge. sailing around at night. see another ship on the water blaring its horn and beelining at me. think wtf and start heading back to the dock bc im not prepared for whatever this interaction is gonna be. the ship is much faster than me but thats ok, im pretty close to shore.

ship gets within viewing distance. the horn sounds kinda off. the lights in the windows don't look much like windows any more. there's a weird and distinctly un-ship-like shape under the water.

it's not a fucking boat. it's a fish pretending to be a boat. a big fucking fish chasing after me trying to trick me into thinking it's a fellow fisherman. when i get into range of the dock it shies away from the light and darts back underwater so fast it's like it was never there. i close the fucking game and never open it again.

i feel like the relationship between arkady and victor is something that was too quickly overlooked and underutilized after the fact. both have unfortunately fallen victim to the applaudably lazy “evil child” trope at least once, and are undeniably evil outcasts.

they are not exactly romantic, something between sexual and unbreakable. i imagine they're both arospec, victor futher having his apprehensions to a romance due to his previous roster of lovers. these two, however, are two broken pieces of a whole person that have been worn over time. in the darkness of marvel's box of character scraps, they have and found each other. i love them. their history with each other and outside of each other leading to a camaraderie is powerful and beautiful. two manufactured monsters that can find comfort in knowing that, yes, they DO understand each other.

weapon x as a whole share this general seniment, arkady and victor just having something a bit stronger. the team as a whole just isn't utilized enough to me, i need every ounce of information i can gather. i need every interaction, every word passed and feeling shared. i don't know, i read comics and feel like there's still not enough; not enough about their organization, not enough about their relationships on a deeper level. maybe it's just something insatiable for me, but i feel like my frustration is justified. they're all just my favorites ig, shrug
