Imagine if they had used the study of paleo genetics for something useful - like idk, studying the origins of cancer, disease, or obesity? Imagine using money and putting effort into something that would actually benefit society. Why are we focusing our energy on bioengineering extinct/endangered species when we can't even protect wild populations now? Not to sound like a pessimistic boomer, but this was nothing but a quick headline grab. They've been modifying chicken embryos for a while now to replicate dinosaurs. Like, other than the purposes from aesthetics to "well, why the hell not," how does this exactly better our world? It doesn't. You're taking something that went through thousands of years of natural selection/evolution and replacing it with a Temu look alike. These animals probably have no natural immune system, drastically reduced lifespans, and there is no longer a role for them to play in the ecosystem. What was the point of even announcing all of this other than egotistical purposes?

I don't care if they are still working on perfecting the science. There are more important things in this world that need to be researched and studied. The human race has never failed to waste its own potential.
