Sometimes I feel like a weirdo for having James and Sirius play wizard chess not Sirius and Remus, which seems to be the only thing I see. But aside from the fact that I see James and Sirius doing practically everything together, the scenes I write are often modelled after my husband and his best friend (my husband is quite private and his best friend has adhd and they are both brilliantly smart).

I don’t necessarily see James as having adhd (which I have), but I do bring in elements when writing him as young. And I especially enjoy combining that with a superb memory that is even better than Sirius (who’s got a great memory too). But Sirius is less distracted, and able to keep focus for longer. So James tries to suggest using timers (using their wands) and Sirius is refusing to. On top of that Sirius likes trying to distract James, which I mean, James is here for! So Sirius almost always wins, but not because either are better than the other. They are equally brilliant, differently.

Tell me, is it such a crime to write this rather than Remus and Sirius playing? Also, if Remus would play with someone I think it’d be Peter (because otherwise he’d be left out and that’s exactly the sort of considerate stuff Remus would do) and if not he’d play with James. I actually think Sirius is only looking for opponents that can challenge him, and while Remus was clever he spends a lot of the canon talking about how James and Sirius were just best at everything they did.

I tagged as both platonic and not so platonic prongsfoot. It’s just a cute story that could go either way and I hope my fellow prongsfoot-ers enjoys my ramblings!! But you can politely message me if I get it wrong! I’m aiming for joy and not to annoy my lovely comrades 🥰

okay so full transparency: i've never really read much fic. i don't have a ton of free time set aside for creative/recreational purposes and the time i do have, i use to write because that just fills me up a lot more. however, i made a commitment to consume more fan-created work in 2024 and i succeeded in that!!! there were still periods where i wasn't able to read much, which has lead to an ever-growing tbr, but i wanted to take a moment at the beginning of this new year to share a hodge-podge of some (completed) fics that wow'ed me this year. a great deal of these are several years old and likely 'old news,' but i got to experience their magic for the first time in 2024 and want to spend some time showing them some love!!! in no particular order:

in losing grip by @keep--driving - 2024 was the year of me learning to love a good second chances au. this fic has all the trope-y goodness you could ever want, along with toe-curling kiss scenes, the perfect kind of humour that makes you squeal into your pillow or porridge or wherever you find yourself, and characters that you just love and root for so easily. i especially loved her take on james and lily's mums and the ways they navigate the world with and beside their children. i read a large chunk of this fic on my kindle as i pushed a stroller this autumn and i will forever associate it with peace and calmness. i'll be re-reading it soon!!!

i love you (ain't that the worst thing you ever heard) by lizardcookie - enter: the other trope i fell in love with in 2024—failed friends with benefits. the way this fic deals with grief in such a poignant, devastating, incredible way had my jaw on the floor. yes there is sexy jily, but there is also giggly jily and insecure jily and scared jily and earnest jily and oh mannnn this is the good ish. the small detail of lily coming around to sirius and james both through her help with the flying motorbike. i love the minute breakdown of lily's thick walls until they come tumbling down and james is right there, waiting, as he always is, patient and Good.

i would drink a case of you, darling by treacherous_talks - one of the tags on this fic is "a good old fashioned 'lily and james get together fic' because there aren't enough of them" so obviously i was in from the jump. this magical fic does such an excellent job at highlighting exactly what it means to be a teenager with a crush on another teenager who you think has a crush on you but you're not completely sure and so you can't ruin it because what if you're wrong. that is such a jily sweet spot i don't often see done as well as it is in this fic!!!

poison of trust by soopsiedaisies - not a jily fic! gasp! in fact, it's remus and sirius (not wolfstar) who are actually not usually as compelling a relationship as some of the other marauder era possibilities. but this fic made me eat my words because it is delicious. the part that i literally included in my ao3 bookmark and that i think about all the time is when remus tries to accuse sirius of equating harry and james and sirius says, oooooh i have chills thinking about it, "i dare you to finish that sentence." YES guarddog sirius black! his position as sole protector of the potter family will never not be important to me and this fic highlights that in such a unique and compelling way.

bad day wall by @apalapucian - there's nothing i could say about this incredible fic that hasn't been said, and recently, but truly—jayne is such a phenomenal wordsmith. this has a dash of 'texting fic,' but make it canon compliant and so beautiful it makes you wanna diiiiiie. the blackevans is unmatched, of course. but james's head-over-heels-ness for lily also has to be mentioned. i love every single one of his batty contributions to the bad day wall as he mopes and wades through all the chaos of trying (and failing) to get over lily evans.

The Guide to Becoming a Better Man for Lily Evans by bronzeagepizzeria - the shirtless james potter agenda is quite special to me, which needs to be stated right out the gate, really. the shirtless james potter who is shirtless on purpose just to get under his dream girl's skin agenda is an ascension i have yet to come back down from.

Of Chrysalism by @maraudersftw - i shall give you this, line, dangling on a stick as a perfectly buttered and garlic'ed (??) carrot, enticing you to cast your cares aside and come read this fic: "He’s spoilt, and persistent, and endearing, and she’s hopeless." like??????? yeah. okay. sure. i'll pretend that i'm capable of returning from that in this lifetime. but actually: james "my feelings matter, too" potter is so important and i love the agency this fic gives him!!!

Scenes from a Hogsmeade Pub by @bcdaily - i think i read this years ago. perhaps. idk i was basically a baby when it was published in 2012. but i recently stumbled upon it (again? maybe?) and just absolutely devoured it. this is quintessential jily to me, in each iteration, as they grow and learn each other and finally, finally, finally choose each other. each of these scenes is so carefully crafted to showcase really important moments in their relationship, but does it using really unimportant moments, which is genius. it's the grand fromage of showing, not telling, and this would absolutely be the first week assigned reading on my syllabus if i got to live out my dream as a professor on jily.

say goodbye to my heart tonight by spinawren - my bookmark for this was literally just "SQUEEEEEEE" and i don't exactly know what i meant by that, but i think it's more eloquent than anything i could come up with here. the premise of this fic is genius: james and lily repeatedly having 'one-night stands' with each other until they realise they've accidentally started dating. but james potter's devotion to being in lily evans' presence is what makes this fic belong on the top shelf!

Bluebird by ocean_away - whewwww, this fic knocked me back in a way i didn't expect. it's a second chances fic of a different calibre all around, but what stands out to me the most in this particular fic is the way james and lily are both shown to so seamlessly grow. they begin as two broken, purposefully hurtful individuals (read: teenagers) and become young adults who choose goodness and each other over and over, even though it's not easy. i feel proud of them, when i read this fic. what a labour of love for our favourite couple.

The Way the Light Looks by @stonecoldhedwig - i have nothing more to say about this fic than this: BEST KISS SCENE I HAVE EVER AND WILL EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!

Whispers in the Dark by @yallthemwitches - okayyyy so it's difficult to choose just one of tay's fics, but this is such a stand-out to me. friends to lovers!!!! james "but i've never lied to you" potter, i want to kiss you on the MOUTH! he's so earnest, so pure, so "no actually i just wanted to see you" when he has no business being such a sweetheart. honourable mention: the beyond-precious proposal scene at the end.

Love is Complicated by @theesteemedladydebourgh - this fic feels like sitting in the most beautiful library in the world watching rain trail down the ornate, darkened windows—and then the hottest professor on earth walks up to you and snogs you without preamble. except it's made better by the fact that he is somehow both james potter and an indiana jones variant? listen. just read it. then squeal and kick your feet with me, okay?

Sunshine in my Eyes by monroeslittle - another fic i devoured on my kindle this year (but definitely not during standardised testing at school when i was supposed to be actively monitoring teenagers for academic integrity and technically signed an oath that i locked all my electronics in the closet). ahem. this is some of the most rewarding angst i have ever read, which is genuinely some of the highest praise i could ever bestow on someone. lily going to james for lessons on how to kiss and the entire scene that follows will follow me forever. they're so endearing and sweet and did not deserve all they went through. but. angst with a happy ending xx

hi! i recently joined the zutara fandom and i've been seeking to read more fics of them! the first one was once around the sun (a famous one) and i'd like to know more about of the most classic zutara fanfics

Hello & welcome to the fandom! Once Around the Sun is one of my favourite fics ever. It’s so beautiful and gets under your skin.

Just a note, in case you're new to fanfic: please leave kudos for the author if you enjoyed their work, or even better, kudos + a comment! Not every popular fic will be your cup of tea, so make sure to check the tags and ratings before reading.

I think “classics” can be a ymmv situation, but a lot of people get into a ship with sorting by kudos on AO3, so I'll go through the ones I've read on page 1 that cover a bunch of different popular premises. S3 forced collaboration? The Color of the Stars by bluenebulae. Arranged political marriage? The Blackfish and the Dragon by ama. Ambassador Katara? such selfish prayers by andromeda3116. Canon divergent post-TSR? i'm still here by owedbetter. Katara-is-captured fic? Sparrowkeet by audreyii_fic. Painted Lady x Blue Spirit? Rumour Has It by FictionIsSocialInquiry. And of course, one of my fave fics of all time, Southern Lights by colourwhirled.

If you sort by favourites/comments on FFN, you'll come across some older-ish fics, like Stormbenders by Fandomme (fab undercover adventure from late s3!), His Majesty Prefers Blue by ShamelessLiar (post-canon), Tempest in a Teacup by akaVertigo (Katara grows up in the FN AU), The Black Games by MrsPettyfer (Hunger Games AU), Enslaved by sharkflip (Zuko is kidnapped and given to Katara), and The Undying Fire by Boogum (a veritable epic!).

That said, there are soooo many amazing fics in this fandom, and some of my favourites don't show up on the first couple of pages on AO3 or FFN if you sort by kudos/faves/reviews. I have a list of my lesser-known faves here, but since I made that post I've read a few more fics that I LOVE, including: akaiiko's they call you refugee (you'll see why), Lykegenia's The Things We Hide (fave Hama & Kya arcs ever), and DariusSobreitus' Annakpok (Iliad-inspired AU). I also didn't include any WIPs on that list, but following WIPs can be really fun, like emletish's hilarious The Worst Prisoner and ShamelessLiar's Call Me Katto AU. So: feel free to explore beyond rec lists and kudos! I found some of my favourite fics just by reading summaries.

Also, we got a whole SLEW of new fics between Zutara Week now and Zutara Big Bang a couple of months ago, which I haven't even begun to dig into (I currently have Wolfstar brainworms so I've been distracted from my Zutara fic hyperfixation). We’re a very spoiled fandom indeed. Happy reading!

I realized I didn't start shipping prongsfoot through the books or reading prongsfoot fanfics but from... wolfstar/Jily/Jegulus fanfics?? (And then shipped them harder when I read canon sentences with an actually developed ish brain) Because of how those fanfics portrays them?? Do I make sense??

that's why I get confused when people say they don't see prongsfoot happening (which is fine, difference in opinions) but there are people don't even know about prongsfoot?? Confused why people ship those two?? Like did you not read their chemistry in literally your favorite popular marauders era fanfics?? Yes it was written platonically but did you seriously never consider... romanticizing their devotion for each other...?? Fr??

there are two categories of marauders fanart.

the old-styled one, like before the 2020-ish. it often depicts all the marauders (james, peter, remus and sirius) doing something fun (during a party, in the dorm etc.). most of the time it's silly and shows their dynamic, they hold each other or laugh toghether

the HOTTER one as i like to call it. i'd say it was born during the pandemic. most of the time it depicts duos/ships (wolfstar, jegulus, moonwater etc.) platonically OR romantically, sometimes just one character, rarely a whole group. in this category more characters are shown (all the characters BESIDES main marauders and lily), and the way their dynamics are shown are often different than in the original canon.

category 2 also often includes different au's, whilst category 1 is mostly 'normal' hogwarts au. category 2 shows a variety of different emotions, scenes and moments (more angsty etc.), is sometimes more explicit and most of the time the characters look older

if a fanart is from idk, this year, it can be both categories, or a mix, but honestly, i don't think i've ever seen a fanart from earlier than 2020-2019 in category 2

To be fair, Regulus was very sleep-deprived the night Remus and Sirius announced their pregnancy. His reaction was delayed. He was confused at first. Regulus pointed out to Sirius ‘You don't exactly have the utensils to do that.’. Sirius' smile had fallen slightly, his shoulders slumping. He expected his brother to be more excited. Sirius obviously didn't expect him to be jumping up and down, that wasn't Regulus' style, but he excited at least a ‘congrats’. After Regulus stared at them blankly Remus caught up. Remus explained to Regulus about Nymphadora being their surrogate and how she would help raise the baby as well. Regulus was happy for them, he even hugged Sirius.

But Regulus' reaction was nothing compared to Sirius'. Years later Lily noticed her period was a week late. You went out to the store with her, holding her hand as you waited on the test. The boys were at work so it wasn't really all that worrisome leaving the door open. Lily flipped over the test when the timer went off. She turned to you and stared. You smiled at her and kissed her cheek. Your boyfriends were more than excited when they found out, you three promised you were okay with whatever she wanted. Lily said she was ready and suddenly you four were sitting around the living room with parenting books in hand.

Finally, it was time to share the news. You were all sat in Sirius and Remus' living room, sitting quietly. James was bouncing his knee. Regulus was wringing his hands in his lap. He said he was the one who was going to tell Sirius. Seeing as Sirius was the one who told him. Lily was sitting patiently in her massive sweater, waiting for one of her lovers to speak up. Three-year-old Teddy kept running into the room and holding up a cutie to Remus. Remus had a growing pile of orange peels next to him. By Teddy's third cutie, Regulus finally spoke up.

“We're pregnant,” Regulus said bluntly. Remus sucked in a breath as Sirius let out a strained chuckle.

“You or Lily?” Sirius asked. Regulus grimaced and pointed at Lily. Lily proudly stood up and lifted her sweater showing off her small bump. Sirius and Remus cheered, standing up. Remus quickly pulled Lily into a hug. Her warm laugh made Regulus relax more. Sirius gently tugged Regulus towards him, tightening his arms around Regulus. You pulled James up, hugging Remus as he clapped James on the back. You glanced over at Regulus and Sirius. Lily and James were still talking with Remus. You saw Regulus trying to discretely wipe at his eyes as Sirius ruffled his hair.

Sirius was quite supportive towards Regulus and the rest of you throughout the pregnancy. He came over and helped build the crib. Sirius got so excited when he found out he was the godfather he sprinted around the entire house cheering.

Regulus was a very anxious husband. He was a hover-er definitely. Every time Lily tried to walk around the house barefoot, he was chasing after her with a pair of socks in one hand and a pair of slippers in the other. Regulus was snatching spicy food out of her hands. Which was quite sad seeing as you lived with James Fleamont Potter. Regulus didn't let her leave the house without a coat on. Lily barely needed to try to remember her vitamins. Regulus had an alarm set within seconds of it going off, he was sprinting into the room with her multiple bottles of vitamins. Anytime Lily tried to order a soft drink at a restaurant, Regulus was swapping their cups so she could have water instead.

James wasn't much better. He was making dinner every night, avoiding fish and rare meats. He was researching each meal weeks in advance, double-checking that Lily could have it. When night cravings rolled around, James was volunteering, launching out of bed, and out the door. James was bringing home onesies and decor for the new baby every time he left the house. James would stand behind Lily and pull up her bump to give her a small break whenever he got the chance. The one thing different between James and Regulus is James knew when to concede. When nagging he knew the second Lily looked up at him with her fiery glare he was moonwalking out of the room. However, when Regulus saw her glare, he dropped a kiss on her cheek and gave her his puppy eyes. She usually accepted defeat after that.

Lily seemed to only get peace during her pregnancy with you. She loved her other partners but you were more relaxed with her. When she got tired you were lying down to take a nap with her, tracing shapes on her bare stomach and kissing her shoulder. You were holding her hair and your gags when she had morning sickness. You were running her a bath slightly colder than usual to help calm her nerves. You were sinking in behind her to massage her back and wash her hair. You were folding all the onesies James found, placing them into the new drawers you found at a thrift store. You were helping Lily nest while making sure she wasn't pushing herself.

“You're okay, baby.” James nodded at her words, calming significantly. James snapped out of it after that, getting you four to the hospital in no time and being the calmest of you all.

Eventually, it was time. Lily had wakened Regulus up first. He helped her out of bed as you woke up James. James shot up in bed sprinting around the house in a flurry of panic. You were helping Lily and Regulus settle into the backseat as another wave of contractions washed over Lily.

You looked back to tell James he should start the car only to find him still on the front step. He was fighting for his life trying to squeeze into his Converse. You deadpanned at him. James looked up to see Lily squeezing onto Regulus' hand and your annoyed face. James quickly yanked his shoe off and hobbled to the car with the go bag thrown over his shoulder. He started muttering out apologies as he stuffed the bag in the trunk. Lily called his name, her contractions lessening. James was pulled out of his panic staring into her eyes. She reached out and squeezed his hand.

A week or two later you four five were home. James and Lily were upstairs taking a nap. Sirius was building a small play kitchen in the other room. Sometimes you heard him swear his family's name. It was barely after lunch but Lily had an eventful month. Regulus was taking care of Harry in the nursery, trying to rock him to sleep. You were relaxing in the living room, reading yet another parenting book. You heard footsteps coming down the stairs. You looked up to see Lily joining you on the couch. She curled into your side, her eyes squinted. You wrapped your arm around her. You heard Regulus leaving the nursery. You looked up when you heard the refrigerator open, curious as to what Regulus was doing. You saw him and almost cried. You nudged Lily until she sat up. You both stared at Regulus in awe.

He had brand new baby Harry pressed to his chest, his little fist pressed to his mouth as he drooled on Regulus' shirt. Regulus' eyes were closed, bouncing up and down slightly as he shushed Harry. He craned his neck to look at Harry's face. The sun seemed to add a natural spotlight to Regulus. You didn't even remember opening a window but the sun was still caught in his curls. You sighed happily as you watched your beautiful husband. Lily turned to you and muttered some form of compliment before leaning back on your shoulder.

Sirius waltzed into the kitchen stopping at the sight of Regulus. Regulus looked up at Sirius. Sirius was staring blankly at him. Regulus felt a ball of anxiety settle in his stomach. Was he holding Harry wrong? Should he be sitting instead? Should he switch sides? Was he doing everything wrong?

“Am I holding him okay? How do I look?” You were watching the interaction from the couch. You understood Regulus was really asking about his form. You knew he was feeling a lot of anxiety with the new life he was responsible for, feeling like he might end up like his own parents. You had spent a good number of nights holding him and reassuring him he could never ever ever be his parents.

“Like a new dad;” Sirius started “scared shitless.” Regulus paused, staring down at Harry again. Regulus pressed a kiss to Harry's forehead. Regulus glanced up at Sirius again.

“You're doing amazing Regulus, no need to worry.” Regulus hummed at Sirius, rocking Harry again. He glanced over at you on the couch. You smiled at him, hoping you could reassure him with one look. Regulus' lips twitched, rubbing Harry's back.

Do you ever just think of a different universe, in which the marauders realise that they are being dicks in like third year or something when it isn’t too late yet, and they stop bullying Snape, and apologies; and Snape (and a good few of the other Slytherins bc that whole portrayal is just lazy writing in my opinion) don’t have as much of a problem with muggles (probably because they actually spend time with people who don’t have blood supremacist views/have positive examples of muggles and muggle borns, depending on case); and they all become friends.

And when Regulus comes to Hogwarts Severus befriends him, and ofc he’s Sirius’ brother. And because he’s obviously friends with other Slytherins as well, and he introduces them to the marauders and their other friends and thus the gap between Slytherin and Gryffindor starts to mend.

A good few more people find out about Rem being a werewolf and become animagi. Lily also befriends the Marauders and stats dating James earlier (canonically she couldn’t stand at least James and Sirius until sixth year).

All the friend groups (Marauders, Snape’s gang, Slytherin Skittles etc) become intermingled. These people all get invited to so many weddings and anniversaries after Hogwarts, it is actually ridiculous. The wizarding world, canonically-ish, has no issues with queer people so whatever rocks your boat works. Charora, wolfstar, jili, sevity, snulciber, Jegulus, rosekiller, marily whatever you want.

And Sev isn’t mentally quite as fucked about Lily’s death, but now he’s of course also sad about James, Sirius and Peter, and Regulus, but he’s got other friends too, ones that are not death eaters, so he isn’t (actually) one either, and he’s mentally just more healthy. We’ll just say he still becomes a spy for the Order for the sake of convenience.

Remus is left mourning Regulus and his other new friends after the war, but the wizarding community is stronger, and he had more support.

The Order is also in a better position because the kids managed to change the views of their age group so drastically.

If you have ideas for other characters, please add, idk too much about them cuz I tend to fixate on just a handful of characters but I would love to read your thoughts.

When Snape goes to teach at Hogwarts he isn’t a downright antisocial asshole like he is in canon so he becomes part of the Big Happy Hogwarts Staff Family. (If you know fics for this trope please tell me I am starved)

He’s also actually a good teacher, because he has always been competent, and since he’s healed from his own trauma much better than in canon, he isn’t an utter arse to everyone.

And when Remus comes to teach they instantly become, or rather re-become, rampaging bffs.

When the staff starts a prank war they team up, and no one stands a chance against the man who knows virtually every potion in existence and the literal former marauder.

Sirius gets pardoned, because this time both Remus and Severus are willing to hear him out. Peter still escapes because Remus transforms, but everyone present demands Sirius is questioned with verita serum. Professor Binns is finally retired/exorcised, and Sirius becomes the History of Magic Professor. (Idea for this from Oh God, Not Again on AO3)

Remus still has to leave because of the curse, but he drops by now and again, now that his boyfriend and hopefully-soon-to-be-but-we-all-know-it’s-gonna-happen-so-soon-to-be fiancé works there. Harry never goes back to the Dursley’s.

Snape eats dinner with the other members of the Order. His hair isn’t greasy, because he isn’t too depressed to wash it. Minerva and Poppy (they are married btw) are mother figures for him, as well as the Marauders. Snape isn’t Nevils biggest fear, because he isn’t a bully. Everyone is actually shocked when he kills Dumbledore, and he is just generally more well liked.

Umbitch doesn’t know what hit her when she comes face to face with not only the Weasley twins and the contempt of the entire student body and faculty, but also prank-planing mastermind and gay disaster Sirius Orion Black the Third.

Draco isn’t a twat, or at least not as much, because his parents weren’t as bad as they are in canon. Him and Harry start dating.

Harry’s name-choice for his kid(s) isn’t terrible.

The marauders era gang comes together in the afterlife by the end of the second war and ‘lives’ happily ever after. The rest of course join then eventually, but they’ve got their lives to live at first.

Like these characters could have ALL had such beautiful relationships with each other, platonic and romantic, but nO, they HaTe each other and they have too much tRaUmA

I thought maybe this is a moment in time where we would like some wish fulfillment. So here is the first of about three hours of me reading my bring back Black fic, because it's a story full filling my own wishes to have canon-ish wolfstar go differently. I have it all recorded and am just editing the other two parts, I should have them up soon.

The world feels really hard right now for a lot of people. I'm going to miss the community and weird moments of joy TikTok brought into my life. I hope us Americans leaving that platform means we'll look for connections on other platforms. I hope so. We really need each other.

oh and, obi wan was only ostracised for being a jedi in the second half of his life. so he at least had a chance of establishing a stable sense of identity in a stable community of, say, beyond four-ish friends.

My fave marauders ships and dynamics as a multi-shipper !! Ok so, there are certain ships I like to imagine as canon in the canon universe, and there are other ships that I prefer in aus and such but still ship them so much!! So I thought I’d just ramble abt them here lol.

My fave ships that are canon/I think I should be endgame:

First off, Jily ofc. My loves. I’m generally not super excited abt str8 couples but they’re just too cute. My fave dynamic with them is that they’re academic rivals — well at least lily thinks they are, James is just hopelessly in love with her and enjoys competition lol. Lily thinks he’s an idiot, immature and a bit of a bully at first but slowly warms up to him as she sees his kind-heartedness and stance on justice. Plus, she’s always found him a little hot :)

Wolfstar, duh. I don’t think I have to go into detail coz I already do so much on my blog lol.

Dorlene — aaah I love my tragic, angsty lil lesbians. Sucker for the quidditch-rivals-to-lovers trope. Ooh and i headcanon Dorcas as transfem. But yeah if you’ve read ‘the hands that feeds’ by rollercoasterwords that’s basically how I see their dynamic.

Fralice — cuties and did not deserve the ending they got ;((

Rosekiller — ok, ok. I know I’ve ranted abt how I don’t like the fanonization of their characters in fandom,, but I will admit I do like them together. Especially when they’re depicted as the awful people they are lol. I like to think that they’re still hooking up in GoF on nights where barty’s poly juice wears off lmaoo. Also random but I hc Barty to be in ravenclaw.

Pandora x Xenophillius (idk how to spell his name) — I like to imagine Pandora as a goth who runs an underground magical weed business and Xeno as a hippie weirdo and conspiracy theorist. Both are bi/pan tho and have def hooked up with ppl of the same gender before.

Andromeda x Ted Tonks — iconic. Love them. Andy was the og rebellious black family child.

Emmary — love, love this ship. For context, I picture Emmaline as a little older than Mary (maybe 2 or 3 years) and they meet when Em’s at the order. Mary’s a bisexual girlie who’s predominantly been with men at this point, and Em’s a big Butch lesbian who loves Mary so much but isn’t sure if Mary likes her back, at first. Ofc they end up together after the first war but when Em wants to join the second war, Mary oblivates herself and retreats to the muggle world entirely because she cannot bear more pain.

My fave ships that I like to think are semi-canon, as in their unrequited, or right person wrong time, or both have feelings that the other doesn’t know — they just don’t workout for some reason:

First off, Marylene — my absolute fave, right person, wrong time ship. Love the whole, ‘Marlene loved her too early, Mary loved her too late idea’. I’m a sucker for best friends to lovers ahhh. I imagine that Marls had crush on Mary since they were eleven and came out to her later, and although Mary was supportive she didn’t like her back at that point. Then Marls got with Dorcas and maybe Mary got a tad bit jealous. And then Marlene was killed ofc so Mary moved on and went with Emmaline, but she never really stopped loving Marlene.

Nobleflower — bi narcissa and Alice rights!! I like to think that they had a bit of a homoerotic friendship back in their hogwarts years, but the fact that they were on opposite sides eventually pulled them apart. And so Alice gets with Frank and Narcissa with Malfoy. Aaah so tragic I love them

Lily x Remus — I like to think Lily had a little crush on Remus when they were younger but she got over it and they became besties !!

Bellatrix / Lady Zabini — Toxic murder comphet lesbians!! Tho I imagine they ‘broke up’ their fling coz Bellatrix was murdering with pure blood fascism in mind,,, and lady Zabini was just like,, why can’t we just kill ppl for the sake of killing them?? 🥺🥺

Jegulus — ok so I don’t like jegulus as a canon(ish) ship, buuut I love me some unrequited jegulus, specifically from Regulus’ side coz sorry I just personally don’t see James ever liking Reg in canon. I imagine Reg goes into hogwarts wanting to hate the guy who stole his brother but ends up falling for him just the same. He has internalised homophobia and hates the fact that he’s gay, esp for someone like James lol.

Bartylus — My hc is that neither of them liked each other romantically, but they settled and got off each other to pass time. It’s transactional, at least it’s starts off being..maybe barty’s a little more into it than reg thinks they are.

Peter/Bertha Jorkins — I like to imagine they dated for awhile during hogwarts — until Bertha got bored of him and dumped him. Peter never really got over it and was still bitter.

Peter/Sybil — oooh I remember this one was trending on marauders tik tok awhile back but I’m still not over it. Happens after Bertha/Peter. Sybil breaks up with Peter maybe coz she gets a prophecy that he becomes evil. Peter is confused and heartbroken.

Snily — ok hear me out!! I don’t care for their portrayals in a lot of fics coz I think the pro / anti Snape bias is always there — but I would be open to exploring the complexity of their dynamic in a fic when snapes actions aren’t justified or excused, but he’s not portrayed as a one dimensional bad guy. And I think it would be interesting to explore more of Lily’s character and why she stuck by him so long.

Ok, now onto ships that I only enjoy in aus:

Marylily/macevans — by far my fave ship in aus. Best friends to lovers >>>> also half the marauders edits saved on my phone are marylily edits lmaoo they’re just so cute!!

Jegulus — requited this time!! If it’s an au and James is not reduced to a generic sunshine people pleasing character, then they’re a little cute I’ll admit. Not the biggest fan of the 'best friend's brother' trope but the drama is entertaining at least.

Mary/Dorcas — I don’t think they’re a very popular on here but I personally like it. In a way they’re opposites but they’re motivations are a lot more similar than they realise.

Pandalily — so, so cute. Fanart is spectacular

Dorlily — so academic rivals to lovers coded

Prongsfoot — specifically in aus where James and Sirius are on opposing sides, for example, slytherin!Sirius au

Wolfstarbucks — James and sirius share everything!! Including their lovers apparently. Mostly enjoy it as a crack ship tho.

My take on the Marauders (Wolfstar)

Wolfstar is toxic. It isn't just 'Wolfstar' angst, and that "everyone has their problems". It's that it is too toxic to be good at all. You can ship whoever you want (Not pro-ships), I'm not saying you can't ship Wolfstar, I'm not going to hate on anyone for doing so. It'll most likely be the opposite (Please don't dox me). Wolfstar is mostly shipped because of the movies and actors, who thought that Remus and Sirius would be together, so they created some small scenes about it. But that doesn't mean they're together. When they use the books as 'evidence', they use the fact that Remus looked at Sirius for many lines until he looked away 30-ish lines later. That doesn't mean anything. Sometimes I look in people's directions, that doesn't mean I'm romantically involved with them. Sirius talked about James more than anything and treated him better, while he was toxic to Remus. He played the prank on Remus, which could've ruined Remus's life, he thought Remus was the traitor enough that he made sure not to tell him something that involved both their best friends (James) life. On Remus's part, he was too cowardly for anything, he got Nymphadora pregnant and tried to LEAVE her with their unborn child because he was scared the child would be a werewolf like him, and instead of being like "Oh, hey! My child may be a werewolf, me being a werewolf myself could help just in case he is, it would really benefit my pregnant wife as well, especially since we're in the middle of a war", but instead he tried to guilt trip Harry by saying "Oh, your father would've wanted-", and when Harry talked sense into him and said that he shouldn't abandon his unborn child, Remus through a tantrum and stormed out. With Sirius' will, he left everything to Harry, his rich godson, instead of his "Alpha-male-swearing-anger-issued boyfriend that he just can't live without", if Sirius did love Remus, he wouldn't give everything to his rich godson (Though Harry deserved some more money after his godfather's death) instead of Remus, who couldn't get a job because of his condition. ALSO. In Prisoner of Azkaban, when Harry was hiding under the table where Ron and Hermione were sitting while overhearing the teachers, those teachers said how James and Sirius were inseparable, how there was never one without the other (Meaning that James and Sirius spent all their time together instead of Sirius and Remus, and because it's CANON that James was always pared up with Sirius), they even mentioned Peter, but they never mentioned Remus. Since Sirius and James were popular, even amongst the teachers, the teachers would also be able to observe the marauders, and they never mentioned Remus and Sirius. Also, Sirius ran away to James' house, not Remus's. He had two-way mirrors with James, not Remus. He had all his detention with James, not Remus (As shown his HBP). And also, in their Hogwarts years, Sirius goes on about how he wishes it was a full moon, very openly, including Remus, who goes "You might", and that same day, Remus asks him if Sirius could help him on Transfiguration, Sirius just goes about how he's too smart to go with that 'rubbish', even though it was probably to help Remus
