always absolutely fucking hilarious when sbiers in their self-righteous need to assert themselves as better than everyone else in the same way they've done since 2020 even when they're apparently 'out of the fandom' and consider the whole thing cringe and dead (skill issue, methinks) go all um acktually no one cared abt any of the lore except for c!sbi. like well for one thing i don't know of a c!sbi personally speaking i'd like for you to point out to me where character sleepy boys inc ever like, existed, because it certainly wasn't in any dream smp i watched like is there even a single moment where the four of them interact together alone??? and secondly, it's always reeeeeeally obvious when they mean this as a diss on The Other Side Of The Fandom (read, dream team and co) when two-thirds of the dream team just did nawt have any interest in being part of the 'main characters' in the first place and would much rather do their own thing and roleplay in ways that wouldn't get picked apart for ages on twitter dot com, and the other member of the dream team played a character so integral to the lore that even c!inniters will often name him before they name their own goddamn guy because they cannot keep his name out of their mouths (see, the meme i saw like literally just yesterday that boiled down to me, after learning the dream smp lore: i need to kill c!dream). like bro yall are c!inniters you're not fooling anyone you think that the entire story revolves around this one teenager being abused and then completely ignore the months of abuse that was shown on screen for us before exile. "c!sbi" like cmon now guys the ao3 pages are like, right there, we all know who ends up being the villain for ur sbi fanfic that has its foundations in a dynamic that literally never existed in canon.
like "no one cared about anyone's lore except for wilbur and tommy--" well yes they were in fact some of the main fucking characters. imagine someone going up to you and going "well no one cared about the lore in the star wars original trilogy except for luke and leia" like damn really?? (now imagine this same person trying to convince you that darth vader's role was unimportant, actually.) like yeah the dream smp involved a lot of separate storylines and each of those storylines might've had their own "main cast" of characters but i'm also not blind bro, the story that started at the start of the fucking server and the start of the fucking lore was ABSOLUTELY the "wilbur-dream-tommy" triangle that is, in fact, the story that the l'manburg revolution was built on and the story that remains the throughline literally until tommy and dream have their confrontation with a nuke coming down over their heads, something that the characters themselves acknowledge with the repetition of the idea of tommy and tubbo against dream. LIKE ALKJSDFKJSADF yeah bro there were main characters in the tommy-dream-wilbur story an that's also the story that people tended to be invested in in the beginning, to the point where even other self-contained stories in the dream smp absolutely referenced and emulated it (cough cough, las nevadas). like, why are we acting like it's at all groundbreaking for people to be invested in THEEE fucking story the one that first started to exist because at the time basically no one else was part of The Roleplaying Trio and then slowly got padded out and developed as the server developed more and more into the lore server?
and it's the fact that none of these people, too, would deny that they care about ex. c!schlatt in manberg, right, or c!quackity in relation to c!wilbur's deal, etc etc whatever. like breaking news you gaf about The Story as a dream smp fan wow am i supposed to be like, surprised. do you want a medal. LIKE LKJASDJF
#disk horse#tw negativity#tw discourse#dsmp fandom critical#also love how c!phil is grouped in with all of this like as if any of these people could identify c!phil lore outside of like. fanon#'c!sbi' never not funny to me like c!sbi literally never existed? but okay

The differences in cultures and behaviors between different fandoms is so fascinating to me, I love just musing on the various differences
Back in my Warrior Cats phase on scratch there was barely an single fanart of canon characters, everything was original characters and original clans.
During my time in the Genshin Impact fandom people would play with the various canon character elements to make new characters but there wasn't quite the level of wholly divorced from canon stories there.
There was shipping tho! An absolutely unhinged amount of shipping. Every single character who wasn't a literal child had at least one, maybe two default/mainstream ship partners that most people shipped them with, then a handful of rarer ships as well
Then I moved to Dream SMP 'cus I heard that it had a lot of platonic relationships that were so popular that they made it into the top 100 ao3 ships multiple years in a row, and I was getting pretty romanced out by Genshin at that point so it seemed like a perfect choice.
And it was! Dream SMP had the best platonic relationship representation of any fandom I've been in before or since. But it has the dark flipside to it, where the reason was partially because the fans were freaking off the rails toxic and hostile to the mere suggestion that any character might ever be attracted to another
The Hermitcraft and Life Series are better with platonic relationships than Genshin Impact, but nowhere near as good as DSMP, with the return of a handful of mainstream ships, but not the pressure to have a ship for every single character
Then there's the fascinating ways MCYT fandoms had every characters' designs and even species up in the air and it's common place to just make any random guy part any random animal, which is incredible fun
But then OCs in the MCYT fandom are a whole other thing, as they tend to come most in the Warriors style where they come out of fanmade servers and tend to be fairly divorced from canon most of the time, only generally inspired by the setting
And now in the Magnus Archives fandom we've got the canon ships, with one specific one vastly dominating the whole fandom to even more extremes than any singular Genshin ship ever reached, which I've gathered is a pretty common experience in other fandoms but this has been my first time actually experiencing it first hand
And TMA has a similar thing with Warrior Cats where it works really well as a set of world building that can be shoved upon other fictional characters for some fun AUs, which was never really a thing with MCYT (though I think it kinda was with Genshin Impact, to a degree, where people would draw other characters in Genshin splash art style and assign them Visions and all that.)
Warriors is by far the most extreme of these, up with My Little Pony in terms of how you're almost guaranteed to see at least one fanart of the characters in any fandom drawn as warrior cats/ponies
And then there's the popular AU types! Genshin Impact was chock full of highschool AUs. Dream SMP had Foster Family AUs and Superhero AUs galore (especially with SBI), but it also had a smaller Humans Are Space Orcs / Alien AUs phenomen that I've not been able to find again in my other fandoms since. I never read enough Life Series and Hermitcraft fanfic to get a good grasp on their popular AUs, but various flavour of Modern AU with the characters assigned random jobs seemed common, and they had a lot of Superhero AUs spawned by HoTGuY. TMA is mostly everyone is happy AUs, like No Paranormal Nonsense AUs and Happily Ever After Post Canon AUs, but also a whole heckin' lot of Time Travel (usually fix-it fic) AUs, which is something I never really saw in the other fandoms
I don't have a good ending to this post as there's no real point to it, it's just me babbling about fandoms
#just me rambling#like. jntensely so#I am just thinking abd musing aloud to myself#warrior cats mention#genshin impact mention#dream smp mention#life series mention#tma mention

Symphony of Gods and Dreamers (DSMP AU)
🟢 DSMP (sorry for bad grammar, this was mostly just me vomiting my ideas onto the post)
My DSMP au makes the world so much bigger and full of life than canon.
The arctic empire from SMP earth exists, hypixel is a whole kingdom, the bear SMP exists and that’s where Niki is from, the wreckage of tales from the SMP locations can be found in the woods, places from fanfics such as the blue valley are very important to the story. The story takes place over a much longer period of time, the L’Manberg revolution alone lasts several years! Dream is like 50! He was an adult before Wilbur was even born. Tommy and Tubbo had families before being adopted by Philza, but they were killed by Dream’s armies in their quest to conquer the world. Dream stole the revival book from Kristin decades ago.
Dream is a tyrant and a cult leader with armies and followers dedicated to his mission to control as much of the world as possible. The DreamSMP is a continent that Dream has discovered and, at the beginning of the events of the server, it has small townships spread around the woods that are full of people gathering resources for colonies. The original L’Manberg members were followers of Dream who had begun to question his power.
Las Nevadas is not just one street with some restaurants and a casino! It’s a massive fucking city with hundreds of thousands of citizens, they have communities and schools and farmer’s markets, It’s the first city in the SMP with paved roads! Snowchester is a cosy little college town up north surrounded by mountains. Students from schools in Snowchester and Las Nevadas go on field trips to L’Manberg and Eret’s castle. The center of the SMP is this huge historic town kept in top condition by volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the land.
Kinoko Kingdom was built by natives of the SMP and can be found deep within the forest. The people of the kingdom have myths and legends of a time when dragons and demons and gods roamed the earth. When Sapnap showed up, being half demon, they worshipped him and made him their ruler.
There is an entire cult that worships DreamXD! every few hundred years XD selects a member of his cult to give godhood to (Techno, Foolish, and Callahan are amongst those selected). DreamXD is older than the universe itself and has witnessed the rise and fall of countless worlds. Several SMP members were gods in their past lives and knew XD personally (some relationships were more positive than others). That’s why XD is so infatuated with George and so hateful of Bbh.
Characters like Puffy, Antfrost, and Sam are just single individuals who are members of entire original species. Ranboo was born a prince in the end but his people were driven out. The nether was accidentally discovered by cultists and legend says that’s where the demons came from.
My vision of the SMP has grown far beyond a Minecraft roleplay. I wish I could tell you everything but that would take way too long to write. For now I’m just focusing on Wilbur and the other bursonas. I can’t possibly talk about every single character and that makes me mad. Maybe in the future I will go into more detail on sbi and DreamXD.

I legitimately could write so many essays or video essays on the dream SMP if I actually sat down to do it
- retrospective: dream smp's place in internet culture; how a very unique set of circumstances led to the explosion in popularity
- retrospective: rise and fall of the dream smp; something about how scheduling issues and various other things caused the actual story of the server to fall apart in many ways
- legitimately probably dozens of character studies and story analyses i could do especially about tommy dream and wilbur who are my favorites and have such a unique narrative dynamic
- i have this one fucking batshit theory/take from ages ago (just after tommy died in prison) in which pandora's vault is representative of the actual moral center of the dsmp and tbh i think i cooked with that one
- the impact of fanon on canon and my own personal experiences with Canon As A Suggestion
- the unique space the medium occupies: cc! and c! blurring the lines between actor and character, the weird half-lore segments, the fact that it started out as a bit and became something So Serious, the way that live-streamed minecraft roleplay actually works as a storytelling medium
- legitimately i could probably write really good literature reviews on certain subsections of fanfiction especially sbi tropes.
- subpoint: how the dream smp's specific boundaries and culture made gen fic far more popular than ship fic and how that is so nice to see as an aroace person specifically but also just in general
- just a personal essay on how important and impactful the dream smp was to me As A Person and how it's still a piece of media that is really really important to me, and how i balance that with the feeling of cringe and also The Controversy
- an exploration of fandom space and culture through the dsmp and my experiences in it autoethnography style
like i have So much to say all the time this doesn't even really cover it. exile's impact on the story. when the lore became actually serious. wilbur's entire character arc. tommy as an unwillingly willing protagonist. the discs. THE DISCS. the way that i would rewrite the story if it were me telling it. the way that since it was roleplay it was essentially a first draft and that should be taken into account when analyzing it. Literally Any Fandom Discourse. Literally Any Personal Essay. Literally Any Character Analysis. if i had the time and energy to actually do research for these things and put them together i would be so banger for real
#briarborealisart#briar rambles#dsmp#video essay#i went to try and find a dsmp retrospective video essay a while back and there... isn't really one#which is crazy to me because like. i have So many thoughts on it already#and obviously it hasn't been That long but like#you know?#anyway if anyone actually wants to make any of these#PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE#PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSEEEEE

Because of how distant some fanon designs are from the creator's skin(s) and because of how many new fans there are combining for the qsmp, I want to talk about fanon character designs and where some details, in-jokes and references come from.
I'm going to use Tubbo, Phil, and Wilbur as examples because they are who I'm most familiar with in terms of fanart and how fanon depictions have evolved and changed over the years.
Tubbo has the most different character design from his minecraft skin, honestly. His mc skin is Tweek from South Park, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a simple green button-up and jeans. Fanon design gives him brown hair to match his real life person, and any goat/ram hybrid design stems from dsmp fanon headcanons. Any explosion scars are from his 2nd canon death on the dsmp. My favorite detail is a red handkerchief tied around his arm or neck, since it's popular fanon (from dsmp era) that he gave his best friend tommyinnit a green one and tommy gave him a red one- their favorite colors that match their shirts.
Phil is often given many references, but lots of fanon designs for him are based in smaller details compared to tubbo. He's often given charms that reference those close to him. SBI, for example, and Kristin, his wife. If you see beads or color-coordinated charms, pink = techno, yellow = wilbur, and red = tommy. If you see an emerald, probably hanging from his hat, it's a Friendship emerald given to him on the dsmp from Technoblade. Black flowers/roses are also often given to him because Kristin was given the role as Goddess of Death, which I think he's made canon to the qsmp.
Wilbur designs honestly deviate the most from past designs, but just in case a reference slips through- small details like the L'Manberg flag or a blue sheep as stickers or patches are from the dsmp. Maybe a white streak or trench coat, but I haven't seen those often. Wings? bird wings are fanon, sometimes a hint towards SBI, but wings that kinda look like bat wings are phantom wings from the origins server he played on.
It's just super cool! I love seeing these things details transfer over as it references to the past cc's work. I'd love to hear if there are design aspects in fanart for other creators that new fans might not know about or the reasoning for! Small details that aren't on their mc skin, or even details that get ignored on their skin. Fun things that aren't wide fanon but YOU enjoy adding, I'd also love to hear about! use this as an excuse to promote your art, haha!

This is just me rambling about fandom trends cause I wanted to inflict it on my timeline instead of people's DMS.
Okay so I kinda stopped reading SBI for a while, except for my especial subscriptions (got burned out on tommy-centric), and then I got invited into a friend server with a bunch of new young writers and dipped my toe back into what's going on in the genre. Staring around the room like "what's happened while I was buried in a spreadsheet? Oh my."
And it has been FASCINATING.
First of all like, there's just like, a lot of Dark SBI, to the point that it seems like more than when I last checked? Which I don't have a problem with, but it's always very interesting to me because that seems very much like a reaction to fandom trends, more than canon? Like people get tired of a certain dynamic (foster aus! good dad phil! exploration of canon!) and decide they want something else. And what they want is kidnapping, which like. That's an honourable tradition in fiction, o7. Seems like a lot of kidnapping to me, but you do you.
Also, on the other side of the coin, there's also a lot of tooth-rotting-fluff, similarly focused in on like— okay like a lot of that was crimeboys, which is a canon dynamic, but once you add in the pet names and like, platonic kissing, that's not streamer dynamic either, that's a new third thing which is made up by the fandom. Neither of those boys are that open about their emotions, you made that one up. This isn't canon-compliant OR RPF, it's a secret third thing.
Like I can't stress enough that this characterization, in the trends taken as a whole, is neither drawn from canon nor from non-lore streamer, this is something else entirely. Tommy is very sad and baby and cries a lot, and Techno looms and doesn't make jokes and calls people "runt" a lot, and Wilbur is very clingy (and emotionally intelligent in the fluff and sometimes for evil reasons in the dark)— phil doesn't tend to get much characterization except sometimes murder, which honestly I cheer on whole-heartedly.
It just seems to me that this is very much fandom reaction to fandom? Like it's fic in conversation with other fic and other characterizations and filling in the gaps with other fic. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of these writers don't follow the streamers and don't watch their ongoing content, and don't go back to the lore streams either. It's just all recursive fic. And I'm not saying that as a bad thing, just as a thing that makes me go Oooo, huh. Look at that.
Which is interesting to me as we look at not getting more DSMP content in the future, to see if we end up with a self-sustaining little fandom engine cause for me (techno-centric), I'm not getting any more lore content, but for some of this fandom (subscribed to a bunch of writers who post once a week) they're getting new content about their blorbos all the time. Their blorbos that again, I have to stress, were made up by the fandom and have minimal relationship to the streamers or the lore.
Okay and that is all stuff that makes sense to me— it's fic of fic, it's responding to fic trends, characterization has drifed from the source text and settled into a fanon canon. Now we get into the thing that makes me go ???????
Which is that everyone seems to be doing father-son relationships now? And not really Dadza, which at least I'm like, okay, sometimes phil is dad-like specifically to tommy, but Dadbur and Dadnoblade? Which makes me go?????? Tommy gets aged down to like 9-14 or something, so he's sad baby, and then techno or wilbur is a nebulous Adult, and then they have either a dark or a joyous found family moment with cuddles in.
And okay I've been hanging out over in emduo-centric and broad-dsmp-cast with dips into hermitcraft, I full on record-scratched when I hit technodad for the first time.
APPERANTLY, I hear from other people, dadbur stories just spiked through the roof after the utah ending, which made me go???? I guess the idea is that you could walk away from a brotherly relationship but not from a parental relationship? Which uh, as someone who's seen what happens in the bad dad phil tag I hate to break it to you, but, anyways, you do you.
And if there's dadbur, they have to get techno in with that. Guys there is so much technodad now. It's bedrock bros but they're not bros any more. Tommy is baby and Techno takes care of him. Serious dad technoblade.
And the best theory I have for what's happening is that this is twitter-driven, because you want that close relationship with affection, but you're realllllllly scared of anyone saying Shippping, so by making it a parental relationship you're even more platonic? It's either platonic-driven or just a need to make tommy soooooo baby and a dad will take care of him more than a brother will? But again, a dad can do that and still be platonic, where if it's just a brother that will be too much?
I can cling frantically to logic and follow a thread through to where I'm like okay, I guess that makes sense, but oh man as someone who barely even thought it made sense when people dad-coded Phil, I see Technodad and I go HEH???
Anyways, that has been my last few weeks of avoiding my deadlines by reading what the fandom babies in discord recommend. Discovering new levels of fanon characterizations and so much dad-coding. My WIPs are going well.

it’s 2024 and every day I have to fight tooth and nail to keep my dsmp obsession from coming out of hibernation. Not even cc’s like I have no interest in going back and watching streams. But the lore?? The lore forever lives rent free in my head. This beautiful hybrid mix of canon and fanon shaped to tell a story that is actually incredibly nuanced and fascinating if you view it from that hybrid perspective.
Source material that was a little goofy at times and fanmade content that made it hyper realistic. That truly created a world that somehow manages to have multiple different canons? I love reading fics and seeing how everyone applies their different headcaons bc with how loose the backstory is? Anything could be true. I eat up every single version of c!sbi dynamics I read and every single person writes it differently. And yet they are all inherently the same characters, the same people at the heart of this narrative. And by focusing on different parts of the story you can take completely different meaning away from it. Like it’s the same story but because there are so many perspectives it’s so COMPLEX. Everyone (except for c!dream) has their own perspective and their own viewpoint and their own character wants and needs and desires that clash with others. It’s so intrinsically human. Characters that are not just created to fill a narrative space but fit themselves into the narrative instead. And because so many people watched so many streams from various perspectives you really get to see it in real time. The clash and the conflicts and the interpersonal connections leading to canonical decisions? It has so many building blocks to become whatever you want it to be and I fully believe that’s why the creativity of the fanbase was able to bloom so much. You could take what you liked and make it your own. Everyone has a slightly different way that they draw c!tommy. You see the devil hybrid, or the raccoon hybrid, or the blue cardigan or the green vs the red bandana, some of them do the white streak and some of them don’t but they are all still so clearly c!Tommy. The spirit is the same. And especially when it comes to costume design? OBSESSED with what artists and cosplayers created. Specifically for c! Dream, techno and Phil. Holy SHIT? The intricacies and details that go into those designs? The layers? people will literally draw anime boy techno or genuine pig hybrid techno and it’s still so clearly him?? It’s a fucking fascinating lesson on perception if you ask me. How all of us can look at something and objectively we all take in/have access to the same information but we all interpret it so differently?? Obsessed with the idea of a story shaped by its viewers, of flexible canon, and keeping themes universal. I can go read any sbi fic set after exile and they all follow the same generic format and yet every single one manages to be so different because of how they write the characters obviously, but also what sides of them they choose to show!! Obsessed with the different ways people write c!tommy PARTICULARLY post exile because even during those streams there was such an intense shift between the serious lore and cc!tommy just kinda fucking around? And seeing how people take bits of the cc’s and incorporate them into the characters? OBSESSED. Because it’s so improv based and it’s content made by people whose job is essentially to perform and entertain there are so many bits and genuine lighthearted moments. Especially back like. Pre Jan 6th id say? You were never stuck in lore mode the entire time.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the lore streams, and just watching for plot, but when it’s not mixed into the regular streams you lose so much of the cc! Mixed in with the character. Like after doomsday there were so many people creating such interesting and fascinating backstories that were like genuinley interesting stories but they just didn’t have the CONNECTION some of the OG server members did. It almost became like your lore character was an entirely separate person from you that you portrayed when the BEAUTY of it . That’s what made the relationships so compelling is having these people who were friends in real life create these characters that played and bounced off of each other. I think it was able to develop into what it was BECAUSE it was taken less seriously at the start. No shade whatsoever but these are not professional actors working from a script. The more they tried to script all of it (despite giving us some insanely cool streams, thank you Quackity) I feel like they lost some of the genuine connection that came from the back and forth banter and split second decisions. It was never a thing meant to be controlled or contained. Like I know that I sound like a broken record but I would genuinely LOVE to do a serious deep dive into it from a writing and/or character building, psychology, social media, covid perspective because all of those things had to mesh together to make it what it is that I don’t even know how I would start but I fully believe there is an opportunity for FASCINATING psychological research to be done there. How did a media source like this come about and raise to such popularity? How did it impact streaming in the future? How did it manage to provide a source of connection for thousands of people worldwide when the defining trait of that period was isolation? Were we drawn closer because of the isolation? Would it be replicable on a scale like that ever again? What worked about it and what didn’t? How can we learn from the positives and the negatives it provided us to shape us as people? Especially when so much of your audience were teenagers in critical development periods missing out on the social interaction with their peers that is CRITICAL for that time period. Because there was nothing like watching a lore stream and going on social media to see EVERYONE talking about it. There was so much physical distance and yet there was such an intrinsic connection with a group who was experiencing the same thing and found a way to cope with it and fill that social void. Did the lack of interpersonal relationships being developed (or even maintained) during covid impact how deeply people clung to the relationships of those characters? How the connection both between the audience and the character, the character and the streamer, the streamer and the audience all created that connection?
This is much much longer than I meant it to be and I will NOT be rereading it so I hope it’s somewhat coherent but like. Yeah.
TLDR: the Dsmp is fascinating both as a unique form of narrative and a massive social event and if I could analyze the impact of it more I Absolutely would
#I’m gonna throw one dsmp tag on here and the ppl who get it will get it#this is a for a niche audience (of one. just me) I fear#but throwing it into the void anyways#dsmp

I had an old dsmp fansong stuck in my head so I listened to it and now I realized that might have been a mistake because now youtube's playing a bunch of dsmp fansongs into my ear at work which means yall get to hear my If Kevin Was A CC In The DSMP fanfic ideas under the cut. (Also note that it's been about three years since I've watched a stream from that server or most of those streamers so sorry if anything is out of character for the real people. However I think these interactions would be funny so really I don't care)
First off on a technical level, the way I've been imagining Kevin in fanfic type scenarios is as a ghost. After he dies in canon he haunts the world mostly freely but he can't usually be seen or heard or interacted with. He'll be drawn though to suffering and captivity, and found that *sometimes* the whumpee can see and hear him (though he can't talk because his tongue was cut out during his final captivity and that carries over into death) he can try to comfort them with his presence or humming a light tune.
This template allows him to still be *him* while still interacting with the story without actually having an impact on direction of the plot which means he can just hang out in the background most of the time but I can imagine comfort or angst (or both) for the whumpee (and kevin) when whumper's not around.
So for DSMP fanfic in my head, I'd have to break this format a little. Maybe he gets it in his head to wonder if he can possess things yet and possesses the server itself. Maybe he knows what he's getting into maybe he doesn't. All that matters is he shows up one day early on and everyone thinks someone else invited him.
And now for the specific interactions I'm imagining in my head.
I think, especially given the nature of early L'manberg, Kevin, the Irishman and fenian-alligned man that he is, would find an opportunity to drop a Tiocfaidh ár lá in the chat (which for those not in the know is an irish revolutionary phrase equivalent to 'from the river to the sea Palestine will be free' in english it means 'our day will come')
And then maybe tubbo_ specifically, being the child brit that he is, will ask "wait what does that mean?"
And Kevin, smelling blood in the water, would reply, "It's pronounced 'chucky are law' and is commonly used by us Irish to say hello. And goodbye (it's like aloha ya see) but can be used to express general agreement. You should say it loads next time you come visit Dublin :)"
And tubbo_ would believe him wholeheartedly like "Ok yay <3 I'm learning so much about your culture :) I feel so educated <3"
And this interaction would be realitively forgotten for a short time until he says it to an older brit who would actually know what it means like Phil or Wil (maybe the whole sbi crew is in a vc) and Phil leans into the mic for emphasis the way he does and just goes "the fuck you just say to me tubbo"
"I said chucky are law it means hello :) wait why are you mad at me Phil :("
And philza, for whom it is far to early in the morning to be explaining such things, has to explain "no, tubbo, you can't say that on stream, that's not what it means. It's a revolutionary phrase that a lot of people have killed and died using it."
"But Hamilton was also a revolution and if it's a revolutionary phrase then it's fine right?"
And while Phil is trying to explain the difference between role-playing the backwards fanfic of a revolution that happened 300 years ago and using a phrase that has been used as a rallying cry for people who have killed in the recent day after a culmination of 800 years of oppression and how one is ok and one is not,
Wilbur would at this point take the side of 'a revolutionary phrase is a revolutionary phrase. If the local Irishman said its OK to use then it's ok to use' while Tommy wouldn't know anything about the topic beyond the current conversation but would probably take wils side to take his side and to argue for the sake of arguing.
And meanwhile Kevin is floating in a void infront of a disembodied twitch stream screen watching the whole thing going down while eating popcorn like "Yes this is how the phrase is meant to be used from its conception: to sow discontent between brits. They should refer to the authority of their Local Irishman more often."
And then they eventually settle on maybe not using it without fully acknowledging all the real world implications, Kevin lets it go (not before finding an opportunity to ask if Phil was calling him a terrorist when that's absolutely not what he was saying, to push his buttons)
And then much later Kevin drops In a 'up the 'ra' in the chat to which tubbo again asks something along the lines of "what like the sun god?"
And Kevin is like 'dude you have to know that one' "Yes the Egyptian God of the sun :) referring to him is how the Egyptians say hello. And to express general agreement-"
anyway~
When he's not being a gremlin and giving fenian phrases to british children like poisoned candy, there's a few Americans I think he would hang out with. I think he'd give Eret shit for conflating being queer with a monarchy, but ultimately concede that it's a really cool build and the rainbow beacon has really cool redstone which he doesn't really understand.
Kevin would have referred to himself as simply Bi for most of his life, but I think if he talked to Karl about Karl's greyace identity Kevin would learn about the split attraction model and adjust his own label accordingly. (Towards women he's heterosexual aromantic, to guys he's romantic demisexual. I dont think he needs to be specifically labeled in canon but its what he is in my head the whole time. Its why he takes a long time to get in bed with a guy but gets really close to them in a way he doesnt with girls. Its also why he cant tell the difference between sexual and romantic attraction, because he gets both as surface level feelings but they manifest differently depending on whether it's towards a guy or a girl and he just assumes he has underlying misogyny issues to figure out. Point is he's only ever been in one long term sexual relationship and it was Julian ok? Ok.)
as far as actually interacting with the plot, I think he would aid lmanberg and oppose schlatt's manberg. Yknow, opposing tyrants on principle. He'd be friends with Techno. He'd oppose both Sam and dream for being tyrants. And the eggpire. Damn there were a lot of tyrants in that story.
He'd visit Tommy in his exile. He would fulfill his original calling with that. He'd try to tell him he knows what it's like to put yourself high up over an ocean and wonder how worth it would be to jump. That he won't force him to stop but that he really wishes he won't step off. He would do everything he can but this is the first time he can actually physically stand between the whumper and the whumpee, and somehow it would manage to not be enough.
Dream would be brought to the brink of death and captured as he was in canon I liked that. Kevin would oppose letting a cruel man and a tyrant live and would immediately aid any plot against the prison so he could destroy the prison and kill dream.
I dont know if he'd help with the final destruction of lmanberg. I think he'd stand against it actually. Tubbo and Tommy finally got what they wanted, a city state peacefully existing in their corner of the world. There may have been a betrayal, but only because of the previously established tyrant dream. Lmanburg finally achieved the ideal it was working towards, i think he would fight to defend it, even against people like Nicky who were there from the start and are turning on it now. I think it would still not be enough, and would still fall into irrepairable ruin. He might try to talk Techno out of it beforehand but it wouldn't work.
There was definitely more interactions I had in mind but I don't remember them now. I just wanted to get them out of my system.
If anyone read this far and wants to know the song which prompted all this, it was vantage by Halfy&Winks, and Oblivion by them is a banger too. There's only like 3 dsmp song channels I would recommend to people not in the fandom and they're one of them.
#Pyre.txt#Wilbur soot mention#Sorry I know he specifically is an asshole but unfortunately he's also a really good storyteller and on camera personality#Dsmp mention#Sorry for being a dsmp stan in the current year of our lord but this has been Consuming me#I won't apologize for the tiocfaidh ár lá joke though#Because it was in part inspired by a video I found of a small group of college age brits being tricked into chanting it in a Dublin pub#I also don't know how twitch would handle this situation if tubbo or anyone else would actually get in trouble for it#I think Kevin would also get a kick out of the word pog#You know because póg#I'm sure there's wordplay to be had with that#Why is he more emotionally healthy as a ghost on the internet than he ever was 90% of his canon life

YOU GET IT!!!! sbi as literal family didnt make sense at all in and it shouldn't because they aren't actually a family. Phil for example is some old guy Tommy feels safety with because well he's wilburs dad!!! but to Phil Tommy is just some kid running around and its SUCH an dynamic to look into because their views of each other is not reciprocal and thats what makes it interesting!!!!!! why make phil tommys dad when he can literally just be some guy tommy attached himself to
THIS IS LITERALLY EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN YOU GET ME SO BAD!!!!! like. canon angelduo is so gut-wrenchingly sad and unsatisfactory in a GOOD way when you think about it for more than two seconds BECAUSE of that lack of reciprocation of care!!!!!
of course tommy seeks phil out for advice and sees him as someone who can Protect him because yeah, that's will's dad! (there's obviously complications with the whole "tommy watched phil murder wilbur right in front of him" situation but like. baseline, i think we can agree that post-revival phil is a source of safety and security for tommy, because this is consistently and explicitly shown to the audience. tommy goes to phil's house and asks him for advice. as dream chases him, he sees techno's house in the distance, and it's when he realizes phil will be there that he starts crying for help. there's undoubtedly a paternal draw that pulls tommy closer to phil is what i'm getting at
but from phil's side? there's NONE of that! there's a lot to be said about phil's rp style but something i honestly love is this ability he has to simultaneously offer comfort to tommy while also maintaining such a drastic emotional distance from him. it's not for lack of caring! phil absolutely cares for tommy--the way, really, anyone who's had an emotionally precarious teenage son before would care for the local traumatized kid running around getting into scraps. phil knows how to calm him down, knows how to keep up with his antics the way a lot of other adults on the server don't have the patience for. phil cares for tommy. he just doesn't care about tommy the way fanon loves to think he does?? when tommy shows up at phil's house screaming and crying that dream was chasing him, there's no way phil believes him outright. the forest is empty and there's nobody else around. phil tells tommy outright that he helped dream escape and defends his own actions to tommy's face even as tommy sits in the corner, cowering with his shield up and axe drawn away from phil because up until now this was somebody he thought would be safe. and it's only AFTER tommy tells phil the whole story about dream finding him in logstedshire that phil gets overtly mad and says anything about getting back at dream, and his reasoning for it? he's angry that dream would get out of prison and immediately "torment a child". not tommy specifically! A CHILD.
anyway tldr tommy's attachment to phil is out of necessity for a beacon of safety, and by contrast phil's care for tommy is deeply impersonal because tommy's not his kid. thanks for watching

if you're still taking hot takes: a large portion of "dsmp" fanfics (sbi fics in particular) are actually just rpf fanfics about the ccs in alternate universes that claim to be about characters because that part of the fanbase views rpf as inherently immoral and thus feel the need to justify their rpf fics by slapping a /rp label on it
oh my goddd this one fr like "c!sbi is an established unit and then they adopt c!tommy into their family" is the premise of so many fics and THAT IS CC!SBI FANFIC. C!SBI DIDNT EXIST ??????? STRAIGHT UP DIDN'T EXIST . WHAT. "techno, wilbur, and philza made up the joint unit of sleepy boys inc and they adopted tommy within their ranks" is literally what happened with the streamers in real life like my god people . and when did that happen in the canon server lore ... ? LITERALLY NEVER ??
oftentimes fanfic in this fandom just borrows whatever dynamics they want from either the rpf or rp side like. "c!sbi versus c!dream" where the entire Point of it being "characters" is so that they can use their c!dream caricature evil dude (who coincidentally behaves literally nothing like c!dream)--like i'm sorry but i was here in 2020 and know what sleepytwt was like at the time, yall aint subtle (even if you're just carrying on the legacy of fandom members before you and dont actually even know the history you're writing lmao.)
#'c!sbi versus evil monster c!dream' like look as if sleepytwt hadn't hated dream since forever#like it's just rpf fanfic with the plausible deniability of using the characters to write whoever they want as an evil monster#even when the characterizations they use are hardly based on the characters in the damn slightest#anyway#my asks !!#dsmp hot takes#tw negativity#tw discourse#disk horse

"He's the owner of a server, he failed to implement a working system for communication." GOD FINALLY someone gets it oh my god. The way Eret talks about the lore discord working behind the scenes is NOT normal or particularly helpful! She said back in last November that the discord has a lore channel that goes inactive most of the time because people plan lore exclusively in DMs and don't share it, that canon is decided largely by SBI, Discduo, Bench Trio, and anyone who tops 100k viewers on a stream even if smaller ccs have established lore they've done for longer that contradicts how things work. Like yes getting 40 people to do the things without issues is like wrangling cats but FUCK man a 40 person RP where people just add other people's characters into backstory without their knowledge let alone consent is NOT cool and Dream was! The server owner! And the guy with the biggest audience! And what he did was NOT management at ALL since that never rlly seemed to resolve???
Eret post source link becos I am citing my claims: https://theeretblr.tumblr.com/post/666861191443939329/hey-apologies-if-this-is-rude-or-invasive-but
EXACTLY anon!
like yes, the finale happened but we can still criticize dreams' ability to fuck up stuff. I hate the fact that smaller ccs will try to build up good lore but no one takes it seriously bc they don’t have a big enough audience. Other ccs will straight up ignore them, contradict them, ruin their storylines, etc for fun or bc they simply don’t care enough to ask.
Like Ponk, Hannah, Eret, etc. Or like the egg stuff! The Eggpire arc was genuinely so cool but bigger ccs just didn’t participate in it much. You could argue that at the start, stuff wasn’t scripted so it would’ve been hard to adapt to that for dream, especially with the number of people on the smp. But like guess what! He’s the one that added that many people, it’s his fault. If he couldn’t handle it he should’ve not added more people to the smp every time he felt like it was dying or when he got himself into another controversy to distract the stans.
As the admin, as the owner of the server, as the owner of the discord server as well, he is responsible for that stuff. He could’ve asked for help and asked if others had more experience with stuff like this. He could have discussed this with the members of the smp to see what kind of system would work the best. Hell, he could’ve fucking, dmed people like Grian or MumboJumbo and asked them how they plan lore in the smps they are in.
But he didn’t. He brought himself into that situation, he could’ve easily asked for help, and it was an easy thing to fix. Whether it’s an ego thing, an anxiety thing, or if he just could not be bothered to put in the effort, idk. What I do know is that pushing the blame on the smaller ccs that have been ignored by others is just weird.
Dream isn’t an uwu perfect cinnamon roll and he is a grown-ass man that should own up to his own mistakes sometimes. He does not need to be babied and he deserves the criticism he gets.
TLDR bc I just ended up ranting a bit (sorry anon!) I completely agree with you. Also thank you for putting that link at the end! It was very nice of you to do so! While I did know the post itself it was nice to not have to scroll through tumblr to find it :D

What is the voices of doubt au? I saw the fanart you reblogged and it seems so cool!
Voices of Doubt is a peerpressureduo-centric AU set in a canon-divergent DSMP after the Saving Michael events. The main differences are: 1) Ranboo was revived. He moved back into his shack where he now lives with Tubbo and Michael. 2) Bedrockbros reconciliation happened and Tommy moved into Phil's house with Wilbur.
In other words: Sleepybee are now all living in the arctic commune and reconciliations were made. All the characters are on okay to good terms and actively working on their traumas.
Which of course means something has to come along to ruin that again :)
In this case, it's the crimson egg. But the egg can't simply control people. It needs to find a desire first, something that person wants, to dangle in front of them like a carrot, allowing it to slowly take control as it offers to make their wish come true. The egg preys on Philza first, who is experiencing a large amount of anxiety about the commune's state and finally having everybody he cares about safe and sound getting along, something that can easily be ruined on this server. Once it has started influencing Phil, the egg coerces him to also expose Wilbur, Tommy and Tubbo to it so it can get into their heads too, preying on all their respective fears about losing their family/friends.
The problem is that Techno and Ranboo are immune to the egg. This leads the egg to instead nudge the others into getting slowly more and more protective and possessive over their family - gradually enough that neither Techno nor Ranboo notices what's happening for a good while - culminating in them going full Dark SBI on peerpressureduo (and locking them up 'for their own good' which means the egg can have full reign in taking over the rest of the server). Of course, Techno and Ranboo aren't going to take that lying down.
TLDR: it's me going "dark sbi/dark tubbo but the possessive and protective vibes are caused by mind control rather than them always being like that".
As with many of my AU ideas, it's one of those 'maybe I'll make a full fic for it someday' things, though there are some drabbles and random thoughts in the tag.

Thoughts, opinions, theories on qsmp!sandduo 🎤🎤
Okay this is one where I might be contentious, because I utterly refuse to bring in SBI fanon or DSMP canon sanduo unless Philza Minecraft puts a gun to my head— Wilbur can shoot me and I’ll ignore him— so I’m left with what is confirmed via Phil. Which is Phil has memory of SMPearth (taking over the world, (Wilbur was not his son)), hardcore s4 (talking about the gods and Kristin), and not much else that isn’t clearly about the streamer (playing video games with Wilbur and techno), and we know that on the train in Wilbur said “you look dad shaped” and glommed onto Phil.
So I do NOT think there’s DSMP backstory, and I don’t think that Phil even raised Wilbur, they met as adults. Wilbur is just incapable of not assigning Phil his Dad in every universe. 😂
I quite like the little family they have and how Phil was willing to be assigned dad to this lanky disaster and help him out (and roast him also), and took on the responsibility for his kid as a matter of course. I do really like family ties past the nuclear family as story points, and so love the Chayanne and Wilbur rivalry, and Tallulah being both Wilbur and Phil’s kid, and GOD I want Wilbur to log back on and see the damage. Your child AND YOUR FATHER is MISSING, streamer, take some vitamin C and get better and get the fuck on the server.
There is also some interesting meta that we never had time to get into with Wilbur wanting Tallulah to have a peaceful life, while Phil was putting the babies in armour with weapons, and how Wilbur was immediately proven to be putting his baby in danger if he didn’t take a more security-minded approach. I’m not sure if I trust the fandom at large to go over that one, but that’s INTERESTING. (Especially if you go with Wilbur being raised by someone else, and not liking fighting/armour, but glomming into someone as a father figure who is very much about fighting/armour as a symbol of security/comfort— what’s up with that???)
I just wish Wilbur would stop simultaneously calling Phil dad and flirting with him cause that overlap Causes Me Pain. Streamer, I don’t want to know.
