Caged and Chained Animal

We are caged like

Dangerous wild animals.

We are chained up like

Aggressive tamed animals.

Not wild and not tamed.

We bite at the cage

And the chains

Hoping it would help

Us get free from them.

Not wild and not tamed.

We growl as people get close

To our cage and our chains.

We hiss as they get closer

To our cage and our chains.

Not wild and not tamed.

We are caged and chained up

To protect others from us.

However, it doesn't protect

Us from ourselves.

Not wild and not tamed.

We aren't safe from ourselves.

We bite and scratch ourselves.

To feel something other than

The fear and anger that comes from being

Not wild and not tamed.

It is raining and there is a dog lying in the gutter and the gutter is filling with water because the sewer is clogged.

If the dog were alive he would be drowning but as it is, the water is simply stroking his fur
