Still, it is woefully inadequate to illumine a precise path forward and to disarm the primitive, buggy software program - early childhood conditioning - that fights to keep us limited, unaware of all we are, and addicted to fiction versus reality. So, by all means resolve away, but it is guaranteed that unless self knowledge is undertaken you will likely sabotage even the best intentions because of a phantom punch of unconscious conditioning. I've had some really cool experiences shooting for Maclean's Magazine this year.  This is my second assignment with them, and I get to meet some really special Canadian Olympians as well.

For this article I had the opportunity to meet one of our Canadian Olympians, swimmer Maggie MacNeil.  She is the current world champion and Americas record holder in the 100 meter butterfly event. 

She, just like our other athletes has had to find unique ways to continue to train during this pandemic that we're in.

Her portraits were shot in her backyard at her home.I also got to meet one of our volleyball players (will post later) who's image didn't make it in print, but will be in the online version of the article.

The other images in the magazine spread are by other photographers.

Yes, the pool water was cold, we shot at 7am.  Yes, I got in the pool with her for the swim shot.If anyone wants to get me an underwater housing for my X-T3 that would be great, lol.

Sprinting through the smoke and along the light is Barbara Howard. While still in grade 11, Howard became the first black female athlete to represent Canada in international competition at the 1938 British Empire Games in Australia. Competing in the 100-yard race, Barbara’s qualifying time beat the Games’ record, but at the Games themselves she ended up finishing 6th. Nonetheless, Howard also won silver in the 440-yard race and bronze in the 660-yard relay. Howard had hoped for gold at the 1940 Olympics in Tokyo, but the Games were cancelled due to World War II, as were the Games in 1944. Barbara Howard then turned her focus to education and became the first visible minority to be hired as an educator by the Vancouver School Board in 1948. Howard then went on to have a 43-year career in education, which included teaching in the Strathcona neighborhood which encompassed Hogan’s Alley.
