Library Book Sale Haul!
I feel bad because I forgot to do one for the last sale a few months ago, but I went twice this time and came home with some really great finds!
(tagging my book buddies @televinita and @simplyshelbs16xoxo )
Tumblr media
1. ‘Pride & Prejudice’ and 2. ‘Northanger Abbey’ by Jane Austen
I read P&P years ago, but I’m a sucker for a Penguin edition (would be cool to get a full, matching set of all her books), and Northanger Abbey is one of the last Austen books I haven’t yet read, so I’m looking forward to that!
Tumblr media
3. ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’ by Patrick Süskind
Heard a lot about this one, and it sounds very creepy! Very excited to get into it.
4. ‘Beautiful Cigar Girl: Mary Rogers, Edgar Allan Poe, and the Invention of Murder’ by Daniel Stashower
This sounds like one of those fictionalized non-fiction books that tells a true story but reads like a novel, and any story involving Edgar Allan Poe and murder is an instant buy for me.
Tumblr media
5. ‘The Teleportation Accident’ by Ned Beauman
Somewhat bizarre summary got me intrigued. It sounds like the kind of book that’s hard to explain, you just have to read it, so we’ll see how that goes.
6. ‘Bones of the Moon’ by Jonathan Carroll
Bought because of the cool cover and because I’d like to read more 80’s sci-fi, though I’m always wary when it comes to male authors of that era because the writing tends to be extremely misogynistic. Not sure if I should be more or less comforted by the fact that the main character in this one is a woman.
Tumblr media
7. ‘Jane and the Wandering Eye’ by Stephanie Barron
From a series where Jane Austen solves murder mysteries, and how could that not immediately grab my attention?
and 8. ‘The Stargazer’s Sister’ by Carrie Brown
Bought 90% because of the beautiful cover and 10% because I vaguely remember adding it to my Goodreads to-read list ages ago. Sounds like an interesting period piece!
Not pictured: ‘Murder on the Titanic’ by Jim Walker because my mom (who has a sort of hyperfixation with the Titanic) immediately asked to read it lol.

Thank you so much for tagging my thoughts on Legolas!
Looking forward to reading the other links.
Here’s one of my Legolas fics that I’m particularly fond of: Let the Memories Be Good
It kind of wrecks me when the media reduces Legolas to the overpowered hot guy who defies gravity.
Like...
Did we watch the same movies?
Not only is this guy just an insanely honorable and fierce member of the Fellowship, but he's an infinitely heartfelt and dedicated friend. He would go to the ends of the earth to follow Aragorn, to save Merry and Pippin, to fight in the name of Frodo Baggins.
He's lost his mother, he was raised by a grieving and emotionally absent father, he was sheltered from the rest of the world for years, he went from insulting and threatening dwarves to protecting and practically EXISTING for one. Not to mention everything he did post war of the ring, uniting his people yet removing himself from his royal status??
And just to think, he has to grapple with immortality. To other elves it doesn't matter, but to him, his entire life has become these mortal friends he's grown to call family. And he has to go on living while they all slowly die.
And yeah, he's a fucking INSANE FIGHTER. Like BEYOND REASON.
I get that to the dude bros he's just a hot guy for the girls to thirst over but in reality he's just as complex as the rest of them and I'd really like for us to acknowledge it for once.

hey miners and crafters 🗣️ tomorrow evening i will post the final chapter of ‘from eden’
writing this story has been an amazing journey, and it ain’t over yet. i’ve got plenty of future oneshots planned for the HTP au, which will surely not turn into elaborate multi-chapter projects. surely. my next goal is to get the fic (and all my other mcyt stuff) uploaded to A03 so y’all can keep track more easily 😂
howEVER, i’m about to start my final year of vet school, which means nonstop clinical rotations AND my board exam, so i can’t promise when that will come. all i can say is i’ll continue to write as long as i’m inspired, same as mel will continue to make art, and we’ll still reply to asks and tags as we receive them. so it may be slow(er) going, but there’s still lots to look forward to ✌️
(P.S. y’all might wanna make sure you’ve got plenty of time when u sit down to read it. this one is a doozy.)

My one major struggle when reading Russian literature is that I get so stressed out whenever a character makes stupid decisions involving money, like please, Rostov, don’t gamble away forty-three thousand roubles, my blood pressure is rising here

Lucien is so charming that Feyre forgets she’s supposed to hate him and has trouble holding on to her anger. Elain doesn’t stand a chance 😮‍💨
